"What (Michigan coaches) told me is that they're focusing on point guards right now, but if anything opens up, they'll definitely come back on and recruit me as hard as they were," said Towns

But I'd be really surprised if things used to be different. Pretty sure you didn't become Prez of a university just having a high school degree even 50 years ago.

Did the Tigers get a bullpen yet? Obviously they're good, but it'd be really nice to get a title and it's hard to be optimistic about that the way their bullpen seems to get continuously hammered in the playoffs over the last few years.

I don't get it. Why do they need to know that? Do the number of scholarship men and women at a given school have to be the same number? They will know how many are on scholarship. It's just not set in stone before a recruiting class is finished (although you'd have no incentive to not get 25 guys since it won't count against you in the future). Guys get kicked off teams or added as late graduate transfers.
|6 days 5 hours ago||Why couldn't transfers count||
Why couldn't transfers count as part of the 25 class limit? Why would walkons have to be any different than they are now (that they don't count and don't get a scholarship)?

I still think one of Brian's best ideas is to do away with roster limits and just limit recruiting classes to 25 commits. No incentive to get them off your team after that.

Well, I do generally think city names are better, but it's also pretty lame when a team is named after a city but actually plays like an hour outside of town. So the Pistons should definitely be the Fort Wayne Pistons. :)

So what if he did? People act like he's supposed to feel sorry for being paid. If the NBA offered anyone here millions of dollars, no one's just going to say "Oh well thanks for the offer, but I'm 31 and just an average dude. You should sign someone else. I really wouldn't want to disappoint some fans."

Would any possible rule change about camps be subject to a vote by all of the D-I schools? I wonder if some smaller schools would like to get in on these camps. That'd be a great way to swing their votes. It's not like Marshall is going to headline their own camps around the country.

I live in Korea and one of the worst things is what a pain it is watching college football here. I'm 13 to 14 hours of ahead of EST depending on daylight savings. I was mentioning this to a friend who was here before and he said he used to be a huge college basketball fan. Then one year he decided to completely ignore the entire season and tournament one year and now he doesn't watch it anymore. With what a pain it is to pay attention to sports back home and all, I had given that serious thought. If Hoke had been retained, I really might be doing it this year. And to be honest, I almost wish he was so that I could try it.
Having said all that, sports don't control my emotions like they used to thankfully. No more going to my room and sitting on my bed with my head in my hands for half an hour after the Spartan Bob game. Yeah, if I was going to stop watching sports and reading about it and spending all that time studying or meditating or something instead, sure that'd be a better use of my time. But I'm pretty sure I'd just find other things to screw around with. Sports aren't what prevents me from being more productive. And basketball and bowl season haven't stopped me from traveling during my long winter vacations.
I definitely used to be harsher on "fair-weather fans", but it really doesn't bother me, as long as they don't start acting like one of those "superfans" when their team is good again.

Words are pluralized like that because they're usually from Latin, but we don't always follow it. We use datum and data, but we say stadium and stadiums instead of stadia. Also, octopus isn't from Latin, so should it be octopi or octopuses? Octopuses sounds kind of weird though, too much "S" I guess.
Side note: Until recently, I thought blond and blonde had something to do with American and British spelling differences (like theater vs. theatre), but it's actually because blond is masculine in French and blonde is feminine.
|1 week 4 days ago||Actually, dupont circle is||
Actually, there are a couple people here who are definitely saying that. But regarding the rest of the stuff, I agree with you. I have a friend who started at U of M - Flint, had to drop out, and then started back at a community college (Flint is definitely NOT a community college). Not saying he's a genius, but that dude definitely would have been fine at Ann Arbor if you're going strictly by intelligence, but his family is totally broke, he had a string of bad luck himself when he was at U of M - Flint (multiple car crashes for one), was the first in his family to go to college, etc. Luckily he got back on his feet and finished a master's at Eastern Michigan. A lot goes into where you get into school and graduate from besides intelligence.
Other random note. It's actually kind of awkward telling people I went to U of M - Flint for undergrad. Outside of Michigan, you can't just call it U of M. Simply saying Michigan implies Ann Arbor. Saying all of The University of Michigan - Flint makes it sound akin to THE Ohio State University. Usually I just say Michigan's Flint campus or something, but I sometimes have to explain when they're a bit confused since most aren't aware Michigan has satellite campuses. It's funny that an out-of-stater on here complained about the perception of Flint vs. AA. It doesn't seem to me that people who aren't from Michigan or didn't go to AA register there's a difference really.
|1 week 4 days ago||I went to U of M - Flint and||
I went to U of M - Flint and I can hardly recall any conversations of people comparing the two schools or worrying about how they're perceived. I'm sure some do, but it's far from a common thing. All I can remember is someone asking what it says on the diploma.
There's a much bigger range in the quality of students at U of M - Flint. Yes, I met some people who should not be in college AT ALL. But, there are also plenty of smart people.
And yes, you can still go wherever you want after U of M - Flint if you work hard there. I got into Carnegie Mellon, I know one guy who's now studying at Cambridge, and another who got into Harvard for grad school (frankly, I was surprised at that one).
And a note on education quality. Just because someone's smart, it doesn't make them a good teacher. In fact, the two professors I had at Flint who were also employed at Ann Arbor were pretty bad. One guy was smart but totally neurotic and unorganized, and there was another woman who just ran a poor class. I can't actually remember specifically what she was screwing up so much besides taking forever to get any papers or tests back, but I do remember at least one class with a bunch of students being pissed at her effort. I also had a professor at Carnegie Mellon who was one of the two most well-regarded names in his field, but he was terrible at teaching the material to people who weren't already well-versed in it. And no, that wasn't me just not getting it. EVERYONE thought that.

The problem with FSU wasn't that they didn't have a lot of marquee wins. The problem was they won every game by the skin of their teeth. If they had performed even close to what they did last year then they would have deserved a #1 ranking.
