Of course Donnal was horrible, and the other 3 weren't great, but they're better than Donnal and I think at least as good as Bielfeldt.
I think Bielfeldt absolutely would have been an immediate liability on the other end. He got owned by guys as talented and athletic as Reynolds. Xavier was big and talented down low, and I just can't see how a short, unathletic center would have changed things in this game.

Not sure how Bielfeldt helps. Can't see him slowing down Reynolds any more than what our current guys did

Interesting. How are they not ranked in the top 25? I guess it is a bit of a crapshoot at the beginning of the year because cbb has so much turnover and unknown youth.

It happened over hundreds of years. This wasn't just some little "oops" moment. It absolutely was genocide. Slow and steady.

By that logic, there's nothing wrong with us killing every single Mexican and taking Mexico.
The stupidity here is kind of incredible. You do realize the Terrelle Pryor quote about how "Everyone murders" is supposed to be funny because it's insane, right? Not because it actually makes sense and justifies genocide.

|1 week 2 days ago||What is this objectivity you||
What is this objectivity you speak of? You do realize Alabama lost a game to a mediocre Ole Miss team? And yes, it was fluky, but flukes happen. I don't think Michigan is better than Alabama, but who knows what would happen. Just a couple of big plays like Peppers returns a kickoff, Bama's QB throws a couple of picks, and we'd be right there.
Tired of hearing people here act like losing a college football game is a matter of mathematical certainty.
|1 week 2 days ago||Definitely. It's so annoying||
Definitely. It's so annoying when people post about how we are surely going to lose and then complain that they can't have a different opinion. I certainly don't feel good at all about the OSU game given what we saw last week, but it's stupid to just write Michigan off. And doing so against PSU? People are seriously scared about their O-line?
|1 week 3 days ago||True, but red zone offense||
True, but red zone offense and defense is a meaningful statistic because the field is compressed. Safeties and linebackers play closer to the line. You can't run 4 verts at the 9-yard line. Obviously you can't do it at the 11 either, but a few extra yards may actually be helpful for spreading the field just a bit more. So if the safeties and linebackers are closer to the line of scrimmage when you're at the 9, maybe a certain play run from the 11 usually gets 10 yards and a first down while the same play from the 9 usually only gets 8 yards. That's certainly at least plausible, and then you're looking at 1st and goal from the 1 vs. 4th and goal from the 1. It's certainly not as simple as 5 yards is 5 yards whether you're at the 50 or the 5 because those yards from the 5 are harder to come by. Maybe the 9 and the 11 aren't big enough of a difference to matter though.
|1 week 3 days ago||Oh, I definitely agree with||
Oh, I definitely agree with that. I'm not actually advocating going down at the 11 or 12, even if it looks like you'll surely be tackled, for the reasons you mentioned.
|1 week 3 days ago||But the counter-argument is||
But the counter-argument is the closer you are, the harder each yard is to get. You don't agree with that?
It is funny though that you certainly wanna be at the 1, but those goal line stands also show how difficult that yard can be.
I can see both sides of it. I just thought it was an interesting question. And I'd love to see some data on it.
|1 week 3 days ago||The problem with that graph||
The problem with that graph is that 1st and goal from the 1 is of course the best scenario. And 1st and 10 from the 20 probably doesn't help the offense in the way I mentioned. I'd be more interested in seeing a graph like that comparing the 15 to 10 and 10 to 5, but even then first and goal from the 5 clearly seems better than first and 10 from the 15 to me.
And then I just realized, do those numbers in the graph overlap? Shouldn't it be something like the 20 to 11 and 10 to 1?
|1 week 3 days ago||Good point. I had thought of||
Good point. I had thought of how the defense plays things when the field is shorter, but I hadn't really considered offensive style. Definitely seems like those dink-and-dunk pass spreads have problems in the red zone since the secondary is playing so tight, but I could be wrong.

This board sometimes. How are you in a gloomy mood with this team where it is right now? I gladly would have taken this team and this record at the beginning of the season.
