|3 days 25 sec ago||Completely agree||
Screw everyone else, if WE can't get OUR information before everyone else and have accurate rumors to discuss on MGoBlog, my time on this site will be cut back significantly.
|4 days 22 hours ago||Its not just East coast||
I've lived and/or visited all over the world and its not just an East coast thing.
|4 days 22 hours ago||This much is clear||
But I don't want the fact that I don't live in Michigan anymore be a detractor to my fandom.
Was it Kierkegaard or Dick Van Patten who said "If you label me, you negate me"?
|4 days 22 hours ago||Come on now...||
If you want to communicate with those outside of the Metro Detroit area, you need to learn that lingo changes, language is not universal. If you refuse to acknowledge those outside of your geographic area, well...you become sort of Boston-ish. They have a hard time recognizing the world outside the I-495 beltway. Don't be like that.

I generally avoid carbonated sugary beverages, but when I splurge its with a classic Coca Cola. Helps my hangovers, too.

I do miss living in Michigan where everything was Pop...but...

|5 days 17 hours ago||Off topic, but...||
I live in the St Louis area and the radio stations and fans here are beside themselves about the dismantling that Minnesota did to the Blues. The Blues had a very good regular season, but killed themselves in their first series by getting down after a little adversity. They basically gave up. I wish I could feel sorry for Blues fans...but unfortunately I don't.
But it goes to highlight what this thread points out indirectly in that the Wings know how to play playoff style hockey. Not everyone does, but Babcock and the entire organization knows how to get ready for the post season.

is that they have a hard time "acting like they've been there before." They seem to act like spoiled children (at least lately) and will throw a fit if they think they're being treated unfairly, which is just about every series it seems.

When you talk about support or enthusiasm, you don't have to distinguish. Obviously the Michigan Difference when discussing academics and the excellence in sports, and pretty much in everything, there's lots for UM grads to be proud of. But my enthusiasm for Michigan began with my father, a UM grad. I wanted to be a graduate of UM growing up. As I got to high school, my path took me a different way, but it didn't mean I wasn't qualified or smart enough.
But I've been to plenty of UM games and saw plenty of people who could fit the same description that Ufer used for ohio stadium. But I'll say the same thing in either situation, who are you to say who can or cannot be supporters or fans of your team? Suggesting that 75,000 truck drivers who all love osu football is somehow a negative thing sounds an awful lot like...well, Sparty to be honest. I don't care how accurate of a description it is, academic prestige doesn't have to be the only reason to be passionate about a school. I love what UM represents not just becasue of the sports, but because it produced people like my father and one of my older brothers. Academic excellence, however, exists at a fairly high level at most, if not all, of the B1G schools.
Honestly, I'm slightly insulted at your statements, although I know you didn't expressly mean to do so. The suggestion that there's got to be a distinction between a fan and an alumnus is a slippery slope, especially on a site like MGoBlog where all of us love UM sports. Not everyone can change their circumstances, but that shouldn't diminish their love or passion.
|1 week 2 days ago||Obviously, I'm biased||
but I would say the Service Academies cultivate that level of devotion, but not necessarily from a sports aspect. Members of the same class suffered together, shed blood, sweat and tears together and get commissioned together. We seek out others who graduated from the same institution as there is an instant connection.
I'm not suggesting that graduates from Michigan work any less hard than cadets or midshipmen, but its just different at a Service Academy. You're entering a different type of brotherhood and entering a lifestyle that follows you pretty much your whole life.

Football is technological; baseball is pastoral.

why the #1 qb in Ohio didn't have osu in his final list of schools.

this thread is more about the humor than being factually correct, so I figured I'd get a little latitude...
