Per his umhoops.com interview, Chatman has been compared to Jalen Rose.  We can only hope. Chatman is a lefty, and reminds me a little of Caris LeVert; similar type of game, also got a little Calbert Cheaney game with those lefty pull up J's. Chatman would be an excellent addition to the M hoops squad.

Better than the interview with Tim Hardaway on the ESPN podcast, was the interview with KU coach Bill Self. Self made a comment about feeling much better now than he did the last two minutes of the Michigan game, and later Self gave a scouting report of Trey Burke that was very complimentary.

Michigan football, since the days of Chad Henne has been a little unstable, leading to the inability to redshirt quarterbacks on a consistent basis. Although we would all like Shane Morris to redshirt, the likelihood of the opportunity presenting itself is slight. Since the recruitment of David Cone, only Russell Bellomy was afforded the opportunity to redshirt his freshman season. With Bellomy's knee injury I don't think the opportunity will be presented to Shane Morris.

Peppers is probably the best offense of recruit, the best defensive recruit, and the best special-teams recruit, of this upcoming class of Wolverines. It is going to be hard to win the Heisman Trophy as a freshman if he doesn't play special teams and offense, as well as defense.

I don't think this has anything to do with a medical condition. Ringer played in the spring game, and played well, making several big hits.

In a positive way, this season could be huge transition years for both the offense and the defense. Offensively , of course, Al Borges will finally begin to implement his West Coast offense that was so fun to watch at San Diego State.
The sea change on defense will be Mattison believing this is the season he can generate a pass rush with four. If this is true the defense is going to be better than last season. I think this suggests Mattison believes he has the experience in the system, and the personnel to run the defense the way he wants to run it. Buckle up!

It's odd, a few short years ago Michigan and West Virginia seem to be recruiting many of the same kids. Now it is rare to see Michigan and West Virginia as finalist for the same recruit. Things change quickly.

Wow thanks for posting. What a difference a year makes Tilman looks much bigger and mature in this video. You can see why Michigan and other schools would have major interest in this kid he is going to be playing college basketball at a very high level. Between his growth spurt and being injured much of his junior season, it is easy to see why he is an under the radar recruit at the moment.

There is nothing about Tillman or his game that reminds me of LeVert. Two entirely different players and I say this as a compliment to both.

Hard to tell from a couple videos, but the kid definitely has talent. I like that he looked very comfortable catching the ball close to the basket, and he knew what to do with it. Kid is a scorer and all teams need scorers. I bet he is tough in a game of 21.

Thinking back to the end of the regular season, it seemed M missed an exorbitant amount of layups and put backs, this is the type of kid who makes those shots because he is comfortable around the basket and knows how to convert close up attempts.

To me Nix's biggest liability was pick and roll D. Anybody who got past MSU's perimeter D had an excellent opportunity for an uncontested layup. Aaron Craft absolutely ripped Nix a new one on dribble pentetration resulting in layup after layup.

2 seniors a junior and 2 soph's in the starting lineup is a nice mix

Valentine and Trice coming off the bench is pretty good too. They need one of their Bigs to be serviceable, but with Kaminski, Guana, and the freshman they will find someone.

If ex Michigan target Russel Byrd ever gets it together they will have a nice 3 point threat.

I'm sure we will hear ad nauseam during the football season regarding Taylor Lewan passing up an opportunity to be a top five pick in the NFL draft, it will be a head scratcher for those not close to the Michigan football program

Herm, with all due respect, Zimmerman's 10th grade highlight video is very impressive.

I do know where you are coming from though. You probably remember when Bill Russell starred for those National Champion, San Francisco squads, or Lew Alcindor with UCLA, or even the Big Dipper, Wilt Chamberlin, with Kansas back in the day. Sure Zimmerman's 10th grade video can't compare with 3 of the best to ever play the game, but what can we truly expect? Bill Russell if you remember, was very limited offensively, with only a couple rudimentary offensive skills. while Wilt Chamberlain like to dunk, it was one of his specialties. Lew Alcindor was the only one of these 3 all time greats to have a highly skilled offensive game upon arriving to college and it resulted it pretty much never losing a game.

You've seen Zimmerman's 10th grade, 7',  highlights, Here are a few more of Withey 4* and Cody Zeller 5* to compare him with. I will also try to find some film of your contemporaries, Russell, Alcindor, and Chamberlain from their college days!!!!

The best laid plans of mice and men. This is the coaches plan for now but when push comes to show we will see if this is what they are comfortable with. I am hopeful Morgan can have a good senior season but the possibility remains he could be relegated to the bench similar to what happened to Vogrich this season.
I think nights where Morgan gets more than 20 minutes will be rare next season.

Yes, speed the game up please. There might be poorer shots in the half court , but missed shot leads to offensive rebounds for the offense, or fast break opportunities for the defense, which will coax teams into an uptempo style. I say make it a 24 second clock.

There starting lineup next year will probably be three 5* and two 4*. They aren't as deep as Izzo would like but they are going to be very good.

I think we are starting to see the Beilein effect on recruiting rankings. Play it safe and rank kids recruited by Beilein a little on the high side. Coach B can identify talent and players get opportunity to shine in his system.

Good point. I like M's chances with Booker as much as any other team. That being said, it is going to be tough to get Booker. What scorer wouldn't want to play for Coach B though?

I pretty sure I heard Mattison say Dymonte Thomas is very good at rushing the QB, and we can probably expect him to be used as blitzer in some passing situations.

Jeremy Clark is an interesting player; by all accounts the kid is a very hard hitting safety prospect and he showed off some of his skills today.

McGary, Horford, and Morgan, are all best served in the high post in John Beilein's offense, where things get interesting for me, is the 4 position next season, and going forward. GRIII is almost certain to start at the 4 again next season, but I think he will get considerable run at the 3, or more responsibility at the 4. Ideally, I think Beilein would like to have Bielfeldt and Donnal backing up the 4; each bringing the ability to rebound as well as the capability to step out to 3 point range and knock down shots. If this is the case, the log jam at Center is not so pronounced. Basically there will be 3 Centers on the roster next season and 3 Stretch 4's.

I think you are undervaluing Caris LeVert. LeVert will probably end up being the best shot creator on the team. LeVert biggest issue this year, IMO, was lack of strength, once he gets stronger, he's going to be a bitch to deal with. Beilein has said on more than one occasion, something to the effect, "Caris can get wherever he wants on the court". Caris is going to be a focal point of the offense going forward. LeVert is tall, quick, smart, can get his shot off, passes well, has a mid range game, and benefited from extended playing time as a freshman. His future is really bright

Great stuff. After 3 years of Darius Morris and Trey Burke handling PG, it will be interesting to monitor change in TO's. I'm guessing TO's increase, because of added ball movement needed to create good shots, but I might be completely off base in my assertion.

Personally, I bonded with this team more than any Michigan basketball team since the '76 squad. Fantastic season and a team I will have nothing but fond memories of.

Withey comparison. McGary dominated Withey, especially in the 2nd half. I think Withey made one shot in the 2nd half and hardly got any rebounds. McGary was pushing Withey farther and farther away from the basket as the game moved along. Offensively McGary put in a shot off the glass with his right hand with Withey guarding him, then in OT, Stauskas hit McGary in the post with M down a basket, McGary faced up and buried a 7 foot baseline jumper over Withey to put M up a point. Moments later with M up a point, Trey missed a running left hander, McGary grabbed the board and put in a left hand banker over Withey. McGary outplayed Withey decisively

Going into the VCU game, Trey had 69 turnovers in 34 games,  or about 2 a game. Against VCU he had 7. I would not label that as vintage

Keep in mind your responding to a poster who wanted Beilein fired, also was very vocal about Hoke and what a disaster of a hire Hoke was. Bottom line: Michigan's Bigs aren't very good post players.

McGary especially, and Horford show promise in the low post, but they just aren't very good right now. Both are probably at least a year away from being proficient offensive players in the low post. Just look at our buddy's in EL, it's taken Nix and Payne 3 years to begin to live up to potential.

Beilein prefers to have McGary and Morgan work out of the high post and I can't say that I blame him. McGary's best plays in the paint come from offensive rebounds or hard drives from the high post. Genuine nice low post moves are few and far between, and at this point, I have little confidence when the M Bigs are attempting to score with low post moves.

I would rather see THJ flash into the low post and make a quick move on a smaller guard, than see Morgan, Horford, or McGary get the ball in the low post.

Frank Clark on Braxton Miller was the best Michigan Drll from last season, albeit in a losing effort.

Was also nice to see Amaker get the best of Steve Alford. I don't have anything against Alford but it is still nice to see his IU ass go down in flames :)

It al starts with defense. According to St. Louis Billikens coach, Jim Crews, 2-0 vs VCU this season, the way to beat VCU: "get stops". VCU can't press if they don't make shots.

Michigan has played well against this type of team in the recent past. M beat Arkansas this year, narrow loss on road to Ark. last season. M also beat Memphis pretty good last season, and destroyed Tennessee 2 years ago.

I think Beilein, with his young team, would much rather play a team like VCU, as opposed to a grind it out, milk every possession, half court oriented defense, Wisconsin like team

If you are coming from south of the Palace, it is much easier to get to if you skip the first exit, 81 I think, and hit the first exit north of the Palace and come in from the north. Really easy to do these days with GPS.

The only reason to be shocked by Kovacs, a 4 year starter at M, and clearly a very good athlete, getting drafted, is buying in to the group think of this blog that Kovacs succeeded because he was white, smart, and gritty. Remove your stereotype blinders, forget Kovacs race, and you will find a very good football player.
