They are so proud of technology that can confirm identical photos are, indeed, the same. Just imagine when this technology might eventually be nuanced enough to apply to "spot the difference" puzzles in Highlights Magazine. Powerful stuff.
I really hate that these scores leak. I was a TA for one of the (non-U of M) players at the bottom of his position group on this list. He fought his way through a visual processing disorder to graduate college, maybe get a look at going pro, and develop into a really impressive young man. I guarantee other standardized measures of intelligence would have better demonstrated his abilities. I can only imagine how he feels knowing that his score is out there in the world, probably getting laughed at. I'm sure GMs understand all the conditions that led to his low score, but it makes me really sad that this is part of what will pop up when people google him. Not very fair.
Having never been to a game at Maryland until this one, I did not know what to expect. I like that they sell beer, and the band's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme really as excellent. They show a creepy turtle face on the video boards during opposing PATs. I did not like that. Way too creepy.
I went to the Iowa game and was underwhelmed by the crowd noise factor. In general, it did not live up to the Kinnick hype I had always heard. But... on the final set of downs, it was pretty nuts and I remember thinking on the 4th down play, "well... ain't no one calling PI right now," as the whole Iowa sideline swept out onto the field and I could not even spot a referee to see what their reaction might be. It felt like no one would have even noticed if a flag was thrown, it all happened so fast.
I was hiking with my friend and her dog in the mountains outside of Anchorage, AK and all of a sudden the dog freaked out. It was whining and it would not budge, and then it shrunk down and peed. Way out in the distance, about half a mile away, a wolverine was running across a snowfield on its way over into the next valley. I was so pleased to not only see one, but know that at that distance, going in the opposite direction, it is scary enough to make a 50 pound dog freeze up and pee. Hail the fearsome wolverine.
How does one go about getting tickets for a neutral site game? Does anyone know? I have been considering going, but wonder what the process is for their release and other things like that.
2 years ago I witnessed sexual abuse against a middle schooler (not as atrocious as this case, but very bad and very illegal) and I was on the phone with 911 immediately. I don't say this to brag, or to judge anyone else, and I guess I sort of see what the original poster is getting at. I am just saying, the phone was in my hand before I even knew what I was doing. You just have to take care of kids, no matter what else is going on. That should be everyone's instinct, and when people fall short of that, it is truly disappointing.
My brother and I were buying a memory card at some camera shop in Beijing, and the cashier asked us where we were from. We said "Michigan," and from the back of the store, an old man yelled, "University of Michigan- many great champion!" He turned out to be the owner. This was 2006, and he really really wanted to talk about the Pistons and their great champions as well. Awesome.
Actually, you can study for the vocab words, and can memorize a (limited) dictionary on a short term basis. At a bookstore, you can find small books of the vocab words most likely to be on the test. If the english component of the test matters to the programs you are applying to, or you just want to maximize your score, I advise that you grab one of those books (similar lists are online), make flashcards, and spend a few weeks looking them over for a little bit each day. My friend and I did this and I have still never met anyone who scored better on the english section than I did, since so much of it is about vocab (friend scored slightly lower, but still a stunning accomplishment for a Spartan). Good luck.
Living in Madison, WI, it is so rare for me to get the Lions televised. Their games against the Packers and the thanksgiving game are the only ones (hate it when they played Pack on thanksgiving). But... AT&T has not been able to show me a minute of this game because of technical difficulties. Sooooo lame.
Seems like his absence will not hurt our chances, which I like, but I feel bad for Bolden. He has done alright at stepping into a starting job that I did not think would fall to him, and I am sure the prospect of missing the Michigan night game while worrying about the health of his brain is a real bummer.
Boy, I was at the OSU-UW game and this is such a ludicrous statement. When things looked bad for OSU, Pryor was moping around and brushing people off that tried to talk to him on the sideline. He is good for fired up nonsense a week later, but when the game was getting down to it, his body language was sulky and he definitely was not the spark that was going to drive that team.
Jalapeno poppers made from scratch... hope that works out. And a variety of beers. Watching the game at home, then going to UW-OSU. Chance to see Buckeyes fall very, very appealing. Also, drinking until night game starts very, very appealing.
I'm a grad student at Wisconsin right now, and this is the first time my students have ever been pulling for Michigan. Every semester starts with serious grumbling when I explain where my undergrad degree is from, but I have been getting student emails this week hoping that we kick State's ass. No one here is impressed with the Spartan win, only pissed about UW's uninspired dud of a game. Plus, saying some crude things about Bielema.
I grew up in East Lansing so many, many of my best friends went to MSU. Every time this game rolls around, though, I do not hear a peep from them about it. Why? No one has made good on our $10 bet on the 2004 Braylonfest game yet. Deadbeats, cheapskates and cowards all.
I have been living in Madison for 3 years now teaching undergrads as I work on PhD, and have been surprised which rivalries they care about. They want to beat Minnesota pretty bad, but do not seem to hate the state or school much (maybe because of tuition reciprocity agreement that brings many Minnesota students to UW? maybe because Minnesota hasn't exactly brought it lately?). They talk about Iowa the way I talk about Ohio, though. To hear them tell it, the whole state is nothing but murderers and molesters. Had no idea how much they have against U of M either. Yikes. We are one of their top rivals, many say. I don't have the heart to tell them that Wisconsin is so far down the rivalry chain for us that I never thought much of it as a rival at all.
The German bar is probably the Essenhaus, which, because this is Madison, connected to another affiliated German bar- the Come Back In. Both are excellent if you want your beer by the litre and served in a glass boot. For a great meal, check out the Old Fashioned, which is on the capitol square. If a giant burger topped with bacon, onions, cheddar and a fried egg with a side of fried cheese curds sounds right to you, you cannot do better than the Old Fashioned.

I have to imagine that they are back to wondering if they have a starting quarterback- throwing moonballs to the other team's safety did not keep them in the game at all, but it was a strategy they did not turn away from. While I walk away from the IU game thinking "God, our defense needs to shape up for the State game," I doubly walked out of the MUS-UW game thinking "woah, MSU has no sense of what they are doing on either side of the ball. Good thing they got some garbage scores to make this mess a little better on paper."
anyone can use student tickets at Wisconsin, there is no validation or ID showing. They are vouchers that you exchange at the gate for a ticket, so the earlier you show up, the closer you can sit. I sat in the student section two years ago, maize and blue head to toe, and had no problems (except the problem of losing). Student tickets might be an affordable option, judging form the waning interest in Wisconsin football around town here, even at 3-0.
I was so sure this was going to be an awesome post about whether Denard is faster than Tate or not. The setup was beautiful. That being said, I would agree- I have probably heard enough about Free press investigations to hold me for a while, and will now return to pacing around, trying to figure out how to speed this week up until football finally starts.
Obviously, I hope we run them over. I hope MSU beats them too, as that really seems to get under the skin of the Domers I know. Beyond that, I hope they win just enough that they don't immediately, obviously have to fire Weis, but not enough that they feel good keeping him. I like the situation of ND being torn on either eating his giant contract or keeping him around to eat everything else. Another year of indecision and looming trouble in South bend, that's what I am rooting for.
I don't know about anybody else but the Tigers are really getting me through a long rainy August without getting overly antsy for football. I can't believe how long they have clung to first with all their shortcomings. It will kill me if the Sox pass them.
Born in Lansing, quickly moved to East lansing, went to East Lansing HS. Luckily, my parents met at U of M in grad school and raised me right. Dad worked for Gov. Blanchard when I was born and a boss from his office sent a stuffed wolverine with a music box in its stomach to the hospital (it still plays The Victors, though a little slow and warbly now). With a big fuzzy music-playing block M-wearing wolverine in your crib from day 1, how could you stray? 18 years later we were off to Ann Arbor. Snuck him into the Big House for the 2003 OSU game and Breaston rubbed his belly after we rushed the field.
I live in Madison right now and have a couple of thoughts for you. You might post on the Madison Craigslist page that you would pay a little for a place to crash- folks are very accomodating here, even to us Wolverines, and you might be able to harness the power of other poor college kids who are looking for 40 bucks. I might be uncomfortable with that, but some friends of mine have done that here in the past and it worked out well for them. Also, there are lots of hotels east of town by the highway and the airport that are nowhere near as expensive, but a 20-25 drive (or cab ride? cabs are cheepish here) would get you out there. Game 3 of the finals, 2004. I know it didn't clinch a thing, and it wasn't a tight game, but the roof was blowing off the Palace all game long. Karl Malone taking teeny little steps on his washed up knees, Sheed backing any and everyone down off the block. And a monster fastbreak dunk from Elden Campbell of all people, which made Shaq make a face like "shiiiiiiiit, we are getting our asses handed to us by Elden Campbell." Awesome.
We've got armadillos in our trousers. Not to nitpick, but the line is even better when you consider that they call their skintight leather pants "trousers."
I hate to criticize your wedding plans, but when you say that the videography is more than you should really spend, it makes me wonder if it is something you should be getting. The videos on StillMotion's website look pretty nice, to be sure, but they are also filming weddings that have torch-spinners other over-the-top stuff going on. If this service makes you think that it costs more than you can afford, it might not be something you need.
Is anyone really going to watch the 12K movie you are having produced? I am getting married soon myself, and the most consistent comment I have had from other folks is that I should not spend much on a video because no one is going to watch it more than a few times. Now, a wedding video might get watched more with the pan shots and crazy production values that StillMotion is selling you, but are you certain that it won't just sit on the shelf for 30 years? I own some movies where the budget was 200 million, but I don't watch them because they are not very interesting. At the very least, if you are worried about money, you might want to rethink touting this as an awesome deal you have going with your fiance.
