I just have to say, Lions…

I just have to say, Lions fans are the Lions-hating universe. Y’all gotta believe. They’ll be back. Bet.

I have often wondered if…

I have often wondered if seasonal weather, in general, as others have pointed out in different ways, makes a big difference.

As many of you may experience, your body weight may increase over the winter. You can blame the holidays and or being more sedentary over the winter due to temperature decreases.

But also, there seems to be a real science to it.

study, from the University Of Alberta, uncovered that our bodies' fat cells may have a positive reaction to sunlight. The findings, discovered by accident, suggest that fat cells which reside closest to the skin, when exposed to blue light (which the sun produces), actually begin to shrink, thus storing less fat. Researchers have inverted this finding to suggest that lack of sunlight, which we would experience during the winter months, can increase the cells' ability to store fat and make us more susceptible to weight gain. After this initial discovery, researchers intend to study exactly what amount of sunlight is needed to create this effect and if sunlight exposure in infancy could be a determining factor in our fat-making abilities as we age.

So, not only are most of our players from the Midwest and therefore this process could start early in life but many teams we play in the bowl games were/are from California or the South.

i would imagine that even if we aren’t gaining weight as a team, lack of sunlight over the fall and month of December might lead our cells to be impacted thus influencing performance vs Southern or Western teams who not only wouldn’t have the cellular change but would also be more adapted to the warmer weather in which these games are played.

What an idiotic take. Aside from many of the points already made, it was windy af and freezing today. He played amazing given the conditions and injuries on offense. He’s gonna be an all timer. Book it.

Stay Calm

Ok, that was painful.  However, everything is ok.  This was supposed to happen.  This year has been crazy in college basketball.  Teams losing left and right.  It happens.  This game was Trey Burke's karmic retribution for committing to Penn State and then decomitting to us.  He had six turnovers and didn't play his best game.  Also, I fucking hate penn state but if I can step back for a minute, I see a team that was 0-14 in the big ten and on senior night, brought their a game.  Good for those seniors.  0-14 and then this upset win, that's a feel good story.  So, as much as that game infuriated me to the point of fridge punching, it's ok.  We will be ok.  Beat MSU!

This was my first time to

This was my first time to Columbus and I was expecting the worst as well.  I went with 3 of my good friends.  After reading some of the experiences that were posted on this site, I was waiting to get spit on, yelled at, and potentially have beer poured on me.  However that couldn't have been further from the truth.  We arrived on Friday night and stopped at a bar that we thought would be far enough away from Columbus in Upper Sandusky.  We thought we wouldn't be bothered too much wearing our Michigan garb.  We called ahead and asked if we could watch the NIT finale.  They said yes but they couldn't have the sound on.  When we got there, we found out that it was a huge buckeye bar where the waitresses were all wearing OSU gear and they had OSU related fat heads all over and even their menu was full of OSU related entrees and sandwiches.  They even had an OSU recliner.  The waitress was very nice and the food was good as well.  The owner welcomed us and allowed us to watch the NIT game in a pretty central part of the bar.  We also met buckeye fans who were pretty damn nice and talked with us about the rivalry and wished us luck.

When we arrived in Columbus a few hours later we decided to venture out to a local bar.  We were wearing a ton of Michigan stuff mind you.  When we arrived we ran into several groups of OSU fans that were at the bar and one of them actually bought us a round of drinks and couldn't have been nicer.  It wasn't a pity nice or an elitist nice like Alabama.  It seemed to be genuine and it was pretty weird.  A younger crowd came into the bar later in the night and one dude was chanting in our face but then apologized and was also wishing us luck.

On the way back to the hotel we got heckled in good spirits and ran into a 2002 player reunion party where a member of the team flicked us off through the window but then came running out and showed us his championship ring and was pretty assholish but in good jest and actually ended up being pretty funny and welcomed us to Columbus but told us we couldn't enter the party, in a respectful way.  The funny part is that the owner said he didn't care who we rooted for and that the only color he saw was green.  We were going to call it a night regardless, so we went home.

The next day we got to the game and parked in the same Ackerman lot.  On the way over to the game a strange OSU fan started yelling at us and we all immediately thought, shit, here we go. But no, he was like come here and we reluctantly approached awaiting some snide remark but he invited us over to his tailgate.  There was a Keg and a huge pork roast and a bunch of roast beef.  He offered us all of this in a kind way and we mingled with other OSU fans who were also nice.  It was kind of surreal and I was waiting for them to sabatoge us or for something terrible to happen but it never did.  Everyone wished us luck and were candid about some of their negative experiences visiting Ann Arbor and wanted to give our fans a different experience.  The folks sitting by us were pretty nice too, minus the guy a few rows back that was yelling about how we were poor and our homes were only worth $100.  That was pretty funny in a "that poor soul" kind of a way.  Granted we had a guy bump into us pretty forcefully and a guy yell better luck next year assholes as we walked out but for the most part it was a pretty positive experience.  It was so fuckin cold though.

You are obsessed with Michigan

Denards Third Hiesman, you are pathetic. You are a state fan trolling a michigan blog. Get a life.

Hoops I did it again.

That should be the title. Just sayin.

Please

We really need to change the "you suck" chant. We're Michigan. It sounds stupid and probably fires up the opposing team on some level. We're better than that chant. I dont care what we change it to.

Spartan Uniform Picture

I stumbled upon this one.

MichiganStateSpartans.png

2:16

This was the amount of time left when we got the ball back down 24 -21. Note that in the movie PI, 216 is the number that the group of hassidic jews tell the main character is the number for God.  Upon further research there is something to this and wikipedia has the following :

A 216-letter name for God is found in Jewish Kabbalistic sources (mentioned by Tosafot as well as by the Kabbalists) as well as in Christian Kabbalah and in Hermetic Qabalah, derived from the 72 groups of three letters, each of these triplets being the name of an angel or intelligence.

72 groups.  Whoaaa. Then on the ensuing drive denard passed to vincent smith for the touchdown.  This was the connection of two numbers. 2 and 16.  The full moon was reaching its apex in the fourth quarter as well our offense. Who knows what any of this means but it is pretty interesting if you ask me.

There is a quantum physic analysis of this game that could be applied as well relative to the score of the game and the psychological comforability of losing.  Once desires were reduced they were manifested. I may write more on this later.  Price of tickets could've played role in wax and wane of expectations as well.

I'm just saying that it added

I'm just saying that it added complications to his experience at UM and maybe his impact ceiling was drastically lowered due to injury and weight gain.  I saw him on campus a month ago and he was all flab.

No big deal

Barnett  was wildly overweight when he showed up on campus.  When he was injured he gained a lot weight.  I think that combined with other underlying issues he couldn't bounce back and as unfortunate as it is to see him go, I had my doubts about the impact he could make. This was expected.

Ashley's is good but....

Ashley's is a good bar and if you are in Ann Arbor it is the best bar for a good beer selection.  But to say that it's beer selection rivals any bar in the country is a stretch.  They have a large percentage of Michigan beers which detracts from a potentially rival beer selection but is nice because Michigan beer is great.  Let's just not get carried away here.

Thank You!

Thanks for everything Tom!

Good Luck!

First of all .088 for a man

First of all .088 for a man that is 6'8 is not very impaired. Even after two hours if your blood alcohol level is .088 doesn't mean that it was significantly higher prior to the test.  This was the night of fab five documentary release at the Michigan Theatre. It was snowing and his car went off the road. SUV's do that.  I am not saying that drinking and driving is ok, but you are crucifying him over the release of this video. The link is below.  It is snowing outside and I think I would have a hard time lifting a leg on standing on snow in the middle of a snow storm.  The guy had a few beers after his celebratory film screening and probably didn't feel that impaired. His speech doesn't sound slurred at all.  He seemed to be taking a breathalyzer multiple times and who wouldn't try to say they hadn't been drinking in this situation.  This is not a good situation but it's not THAT bad.  You people need to relax and let the man move on.
