hey goblue234 - I'd love it if you reach out ( [email protected]) to discuss your experience at Regents Field. We do have 13 tvs, and made sure every seat in the house has a great view of a tv.

Hey MottNP, yes we read the threads. We're excited to bring a true sports bar to A2 that isnt Bdubs.  Appreciate the feedback, will be sure to discuss with the team. 100%, there will be audio for ALL michigan games as well as sports audio for any game people want to see when michigan isn't playing. Cocktail menu debuting soon, we wanted to get a feel for what types of cocktails people were looking for to design the cocktail menu around.  Also some fun things coming like darts league, brewskee ball league, a sports confessional....

nooooooobody! nooooooobody!
newbie to posbang thread participation

havent yet jumped in a posbang thread, but this is not just any ole reason for a posbang. still a bit shocked we didnt screw it up somehow. Can't wait to see Coach Harbaugh on our sidelines on gameday!

Dockers "Dad pants" PSA by Sarah & Jim

Great idea by maizerage, wish I was local so I could go to the game.

Did a cursory search of the board and didnt see this, so on the off chance it hasnt yet been posted thought you all might enjoy this. Seems Sarah & Jim have a good sense of humor about his outfit of choice.

(Originally spotted on http://www.playerwives.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/jim-harbaughs-wife-s… ; in case i mess up the embed you can find the video directly here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cDyVT9yhnTE)

re 49ers press release

i'll admit, as a total nervous nellie about this coaching search i found great comfort in reading the press release directly from the 49ers.  after the way the last two searches got muddled up, cant put into words how pleased I am with Hackett, Schlissel et al for getting this done.  now, if the U could put one out ASAP announcing Jim that'd be great for all our sanity and close out the 0.00000000000001% chance of 'its not done yet' in my mind

article update today

FWIW - he updated his article this morning... i really dont care what he has to say, but happened to click on the link this afternoon out of curiosity - thought some here might be interested to read his latest. he has backtracked a bit

* 8:29 a.m. Sunday UPDATE: Told ya it was going to get weird.

There are now multiple reports that while Jim Harbaugh has Michigan believing he’s coming to Ann Arbor, he hasn’t signed anything yet, hasn’t told friends directly that he’s going to Michigan (according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport), and may listen to what an NFL team–like the Raiders–has to say tonight, tomorrow or who knows how much longer into the coming days.

Based on yesterday’s reports, I still believe that Harbaugh is very close to a deal with Michigan and is likeliest to end up there, but with Harbaugh, you do never know until there’s ink on the contract. He has worked with two agents in the past (simultaneously), he does a lot of stuff on his own, and you never know sometimes if there are multiple negotiations going on at once.

In 2011, Harbaugh finished up his bowl game with Stanford, then got very close to a deal with the 49ers immediately, then took some time to think, then interviewed with the Dolphins, notified Denver he might interview there, then got  into serious negotiations to stay in Stanford… before circling back and taking a sweetened deal with the 49ers.

That’s precedence for Harbaugh to scan the offers one more time–I was very surprised word was coming out about a deal last night, before NFL teams could really get in line–and probably end up back at Michigan. Still by far the likeliest outcome. He can’t sign a deal with Michigan, anyway, until after he finishes out with the 49ers, and that’s through today’s season finale.

But it’s weird, no doubt. Always.

hey m-dog, im pretty sure

hey m-dog, im pretty sure that you'll be able to save that 5 bucks a month soon... last i read they have a deal agreed to but the launch dates hadnt been announed yet.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11134857/big-ten-network…

might as well lob a guess... for big 12, want Texas, think we'll schedule Texas tech. for sec, want auburn, Georgia, lsu (would include Florida and Alabama but with the offsite games unlikely) to come north to Ann arbor, but I think we'll schedule vandy.
yes, re girls hs bball this was definitely a drill we did in high school (girls) basketball practices, not in games, for all the reasons your fiance mentioned... I'd imagine has different meaning in a mens college game.
hmm..

would love to see

  • a win
  • signs of continued player development from the extra weeks of practice/time to heal
  • a coherent & productive 4 quarter offensive gameplan from Al
  • the OL succesfully stopping the blitzes &
  • to see shane settle down quickly and get some early passes in to build confidence

how to measure continued player development is hard to describe, for me its more of a 'you know it when you see it' ...

I heard the announcer mention during the nd/rutgers game that if ND won (which they did) michigan has to win tonight to keep claim on being #1 in the all-time winning percentage stat.. i knew ND were close but wasnt aware it was that close - makes a win tonight even more important IMO.

re detroit drafting him?

i think what yakattack might be referencing is that detroit had a chance to draft him and passed.

could be wrong tho...

not original ...

no offense to our 2013 NCAA Championship squads like Men's Gymnastics, Men's Swimming & Diving, but seriously gotta throw a big F U to this year in michigan sports. never been so excited for the calendar to flip to Jan 1.  while many of the varsity teams across the board had great years, the woulda, coulda, shoulda moments of what might have been for some games/teams/seasons has been to much to take.

kinda emotionally checked out already...

meh, i find myself somewhat spent from the ups and downs of this year in michigan sports.. i'll watch the game on sat, and root like hell for us to win, but i'm not going to get too riled up about any personnel/injury news coming out this week.

i'm a big fan of devin's, bummed to hear he's hurt (i'd guess he played with varying levels of injuries throughout most of the 2nd half of the season). sure, in a perfect world i'd prefer that our starting QB who was great (almost) all year be our qb this weekend. but i'm also a fan of the potential shane brings to the table & wish him well in his first start. would've prefered he had more time to grow into the starting role, but c'est la vie.  with the # of sacks devin took this season, it felt like it was only a matter of time before he got hurt unfortunately. here's hoping that the full season with the coaches and S&C staff has put the effects of that HS senior year mono in the distant past for shane.

i hope we'll see at least a couple of deep Morris-Gallon bombs that will help put a nice little bow on jeremy's career at u-m. hopefully not too many 'ohmygodwehaveatruefreshmanqb' moments.

figure at this point the team is just playing for some positive momentum into next season & to send a great group of senior student-athletes out on a winning note.  not a whole lot on the line otherwise.

ditto only been to a few away games myself as I usually prefer to go back to ann arbor, but that 06 psu game was great. psu was so confident about winning, til they didn't.

buses - brown lot

those coming via bus will be tailgating in the grass area around the brown lot.

full info (excerpted above) from the NYC alumni club here: http://alumni.umich.edu/clubs/nyc/uconn-tailgating-information

also, now sounds like the pratt/whitney area will open up at 3pm, not 4pm.

worth mentioning that

worth mentioning that saturday was yom kippur, and U-M does have a lot of jewish students/alumni for whom this affected.  not to say that comments above about quality of opponent, ticket prices, etc arent on point, but seems fair to point out that this particuar game had an additional extenuating circumstance that might have impacted turnout from folks who otherwise would have been there no matter the opponent.

Prof Thoms, Brother Jimmy's USQ or...

you should be fine at either spot to grab a seat at the bar, particuarly if you get there early... also, if you want to join in on a table, that might be possible to arrange.. i'd suggest reaching out to the club leaders to see if they can fit an out-of-towner in at one of their tables...

available at mden, plus elsewhere i'd guess.

If These Walls Could Talk Paperback

free...

assume it was part of the NBA Draft orgnized activities, no charge to the public to wait in line and snag an autograph...

NYC too...

For the east coast crowd - we'll post full info on the blog eventually, but you can save the date for the U of M Club of NYC's 5th Annual Football Kickoff Party w/ Brian and TomVH on Thursday August 15th.

great gift idea...

madmonkey,

i'd definitely suggest it as a great gift for your wife... i was there this year for the first time, and it was an awesome day... if your wife loves football, and particuarly michigan football, she'll have a great time.  it's a really unique opportunity to get to know the players and coaches, plus to have them tutor us on some of the skills of the game is alot of fun. and of course its a great fundraiser for the UM comprehensive cancer center.

Hail!

congrats to the ladies on making it back to the womens college world series ....

TREMENDOUS job of clutch hitting by ashley lane in the series.

gotta give some props to Sara Driesenga.. she got knocked around a bit with those homers in game 1/2, but came back & was dominant when it really mattered.

woo!

walkoff homerun... game 1 to michigan.

making some assumptions... but...

assuming its the same as last year, it would be one ticket for all three games of the triple header, and michigan-stanford should be the headliner/third game of the day, early evening start time.

Alumni Sections

A few of you have asked about the alumni sections, ticket sale timing etc - last year the ticketmaster sale for individual tickets began well before group sales ... this is the case again this year.  The U-M Alumni Club of NY will plan once again help in arranging block sections for alums, and given the size of the group last year our ticket prices were significantly better price points than individual sales.  However, it may be a couple of months before they are available.

Any questions, you can email [email protected]

those who stay...

flying down to atl in a few hours, packing a 'those who stay will be champions' banner with me, just in case. dont have time to make a sign from scratch unfortunately.... hopefully the mgocritics dont mind the possible usage of a Bo/football-originated line...

re bama spontaneity

iirc, pretty sure black friar was the alumni club of dallas bar selection, and spread the word to all alums to gather there the night before the bama game...  i wouldnt be surprised if the atlanta alums do something similiar...

still in progress...

but check here.. its being updated as things are announced.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/ncaa-tournament/brackets/vie…

anyone heading to the game...

since citi won't allow parking lot tailgating, the U-M Club of NY set up drink specials at McFadden's Restaurant & Saloon Citi Field (located behind Center Field on 126th Street, near the Bullpen Gate and Lot A)... ask for a michigan wristband and you'll get drink specials all day. ($3 domestic drafts and $4 premium drafts).

thanks

thanks for the link! i usually get games on FSD on the east coast, but for whatever reason they are showing college softball instead.

ugh

this team's free throw shooting is attrocious. guess the upside to the early exit is more time to rest & practice before the ncaa tourney.

love of the sport for sure...

love of the sport for sure, but also its a fun experience at U-M.   think about it... large co-ed team renting big condos for the weekend, hanging out 2-3 days straight most weekends in jan, feb and march when the weather can be cruddy in ann arbor, plus getting a chance to ski & race even if the mountains are small.

my teammates were some of my best friends from college and still stay in touch with 'em years later.

at the race hills...

re the practice question - i was on the team when i was in school few years back, the format was to drive up fri afternoon for the weekend and come back sunday nights...we would sometimes set up gates to run a few training runs on fri nights at whatever hill the races were at the next 2 days.  definitely not alot of opportunity to train, but for many of us, we had been ski racers for many years growing up and just relied on that experience. for those who hadnt raced before or were newer to the sport, teammates/captains gave them advice etc if they wanted it.  only top 3 individual men & women scores count to the team score, so not everyone needed to be an allstar.

awesome to hear that the current generation ski team is kicking a*s.

what grade tear?

thought i'd throw you a bone with a serious response since there arent too many on here... i tore mine, grade 3 and also did other major damage at the same time, bout 8 yrs ago.  surgery went well, scars are pretty minimal, and after rehab, was absolutely back to 100%. once you get your mri results, your doc will be better able to advise. its a pretty common injury now, your doc should be well versed on the topic.  i think if its grade 1 or 2 you might be able to get away without surgery, but you might want it anyways.

to keep it simple...

i suppose the simplest advice is to be sure to used a U-M licensed vendor, there is a lengthy list of approved vendors.  Each of them know all the little details of what can and cant be done. (as i said initially, a lot of little things, such as the block M can't be altered in anyway, even things such as a width of an outline are strictly enforced, the circle R (®) must appear, etc etc).

i'm not trying to lay claim to being an expert on the topic by any means...

to be nitpicky...

since i just went through this myself in designing a shirt recently, might be worth pointing out to anyone unsure that the block M is a registered trademark of the university.  this of course means there are some details that must be adhered to when it comes to using the design legally.

i suppose not selling them negates some of the concern, but given the high profile nature of the shirts amongst the recruits, it is possible that young mr ferns might get a gentle conversation directed his way on the correct usage of copyrighted material from the powers that be.

other than, cool idea for the commits.

jalen video

didnt read the freep piece, but i saw a short clip on espn yesterday where they interviewed jalen about the current team, i'm assuming this piece might've spun from those comments.  think its paywalled/insider, but for those interested in the source - http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/michigan/post/_/id/9795/jalen-rose-on-nations-new-no-1

jalen works for espn as an analyst right? he'd likely be there anyway if/when our team is in a big march madness game.

link to the press conference?

if you visit deadspin they have a link up... i think they've earned themselves the extra clicks today so i wont cut and paste the direct link to nbcsports.

http://deadspin.com/5976627/

edit - doesnt seem to be working for me actually. seems i posted too quickly on that one. internet fail.

so disappointed i havent had many opportunities to watch this years team play (they arent on tv too often in my area) but after watching tonight im torn between dissapointment and disgust. goaltending is atrocious, passes are sloppy, missed goals on open nets, the list can go on for awhile. its an embarrasment to see these guys sporting the block m right now. really miss hunwick out there, but its not just goaltending thats a problem. really hope something/someone lights a fire under them and they start living up to the great tradition of hockey at yost.
saw that too

that definitely looked bad. hope the kid's ok. not the smartest decision to rush tho.

a total guess...

definitely do your own research on this, but if you don't want to take the train, maybe you could drive up to the Path in NJ?  I would think they have some park & ride lots to park in... you should be able to take the path to WTC and switch over to one of the many subway lines that go to the barclays.  might be a short walk from the path to the subway... no idea if faster/easier....

i'd suggest transit...

if you can hop on metro north in to grand central from CT, it's very quick and easy to take the 4/5 subway to atlantic ave/barclays center.  only takes about 25 mins to get there from grand central...

my guess is that would be far more convenient than driving in, street parking can be pretty tough in that area.  pretty sure there is a parking garage close to the arena, but they likely increase rates on days when there are events at the arena.

all 3... also...pregame event info

Tickets are definitely good for all three games. (2:30pm tipoff - St John's vs St Francis, 5pm tipoff - Princeton vs Fordham, 8pm tipoff -  Michigan vs West Virginia).

Check out the club's website for registration and info on the pregame event - 5-7:30pm at the 40/40 club, suite level of the arena. Several special guests expected to be on hand, silent auction with autograhed memoribilia, etc etc.

thanks!

always forget to check that.. thanks for the reminder....

[edit - michigasling, espn3 is working fine on the east coast...]
