Lions Luck

Don't forget that their almost pro bowl guard Eric Andolsek was hit by a runaway truck while working in his front yard that summer (June 1992) and was killed.  Also, they had lost their other almost pro bowl guard Mike Utley to paralyzation during the season.  Hard to build your team when you lose two cornerstone pieces to freak accidents.  Lions Luck!!!

Hayes & Toomer as Recruits

I was also a senior that same year and my buddy actually ordered Tom Lemmings recruiting journal out of Illinois, which I believed was published for college coaching staffs.  (We were crazy Michigan fans and as you stated, there wasn't much information to be had off season.)  As far as I know, he was the only guy covering this stuff year round at that time and he had both Amani & Mercury way up on his rankings.

However, in the regular papers, there was not talk of ranking or how they rated nationally except that (as you said) they were from out of state and had crazy names.  Michigan, I believe had a great recruting class that year under Moeller, but that information was so much harder to come by for the regular fan.

When remembering back, it is amazing to see where this process has come and how it has progressed in 20 years.

That's right!!!

Don't let those cheatin' buckeyes get away with revisionist history, their coach lied and they cheated by playing ineligible players and then lying some more.  That season and those games were vacated.

Neither did I...

Thanks for the "appeal" clarification.

Driving to practice one day and "BAM" career over...millions lost.  Many people have lost much more at the hands of other drivers, but still sad that that is how it ended.

After the past four years

and the revolving door at RB, it would be great for one or two backs to step up and establish themselves and bring some stability to the offense.  Last year we kind of lucked out.  We need to find that next big time back.

Here in St. Louis

Mike has some huge shoes to fill and holes as well.  It will be interesting to see how Cardinal Nation embraces him after 16 years with Tony LaRussa and two World Championships.  This is a great baseball town and managing the Cardinals is a great job to have if you can get it.

Beating the Buckeyes

...for another recruit is more than a bonus.

The more I hear and read

The more I hear and read about this young man, the more that I like.  I think and hope that he and Jaron Stokes can be two bigger recruits whose upside continues to be realized by our coaching and conditioning staff.

Don't Forget

Jim Brown and Ernie Davis at Syracuse...or a lesser tandem but still great, Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams at Auburn in 2005.

This is CRAZY...

16 Commits for a recruiting class that won't officially sign letters of intent for another 11 months!!!  That is bizarre!!!  The fact that 13-14 of them are already 4 Stars and there may be a couple blooming concesus 5 Stars in the group as well is AMAZING.  You sure wish this was a year you had 25-26 slots instead of 21-22.

If we do take Ty as a 3rd RB and then Levenberry as a 3rd LB, doesn't that leave us too few slots for our remaining needs in the Secondary and Defensive Line?  Nonetheless, great work on the part of the Michigan Coaching Staff.  I don't know how they are creating the urgency with the recruits to sign, but it is great to see.

Keep it going BLUE!!!

I am with you!

I refuse to acknowledge those early games as "Round One".  What a sham!!!

Good Point

They do enhance a conversation about college football and also play the part of the foil well for the first night game in the Big House.

Surprised Barwis hasn't

Surprised Barwis hasn't followed RR to Arizona.  Is his gym here doing better than he would do at UA?

Peyton should follow

Hutch back to Tennessee...8 hours interivew today with them.

The Beast & Future Salary Cap

I am thrilled that the beast is locked down for the next decade.  However, having close to $40 million per year wrapped up in three guys (Suh, Stafford, and Johnson) seems a little fiscally dangerous, no???

Just like the Lions to get good and leave the "high draft pick world" BEFORE they implement the rookie salary cap!!!  I LOVE MY LIONS!!!

He still's got skills

I think Moss still has some skills and has something to give to SanFran.  Harbaugh will do his best to get it out of him, the only issue is Alex Smith and the deep ball.  I am not sure Smith is the QB who can make it happen.  It does address an area of weakness for SF and we will see how he and Vernon Davis pair up.

Finally, it does prove that Michael Crabtree is NOT what he thinks he was on draft day or is today.  Not the least bit ironic after his ridiculous holdout, and wanting #1 money when drafted #10 in 2009.  He is well on his way to the proverbial "scrap-heap" thus far.

Don't discount the POWER of TruTV!

Grant Hill & Duke's counter point to the FAB FIVE will not be silenced!!!

Laimbeer didn't think it a big deal...

...hilarious!  That is so Laimbeer.  Probably wishes he had been part of it himself.

5 Star Recruits

It would seem that a couple 5 Star recruits would want to be the icing on the cake for what is potentially turning into the strongest recruiting class in the country.  If you were a 5-star recruit looking for a little publicity (not that I would recommend that course of action), wouldn't being this recruiting class' cherry or three on top seem beneficial and attractive???

That loss to ASU still hurts me...

...That was a great team and back to back victories over Nebraska in the Fiesta and then the Rose Bowl on January 1 of 87 would have been great.  Why Bo struggled so much in the Rose Bowl still befuddles me...

Could this be a pituitary gland gone wild???

Hopefully it is natural and he is both as good as his dad and a future Michigan recruit.

one of???

is the worst, his voice, his opinions, he is a fill-in scrub

Intereing research on your

Intereing research on your part.  Well done!!!  I don't think it is a coincidence because I do think that northern schools and the Big Ten have some additional obstacles in the recruiting world.  As stated, the number of stars is not the ultimate arbiter, but I think it is a good general indicator for high school talent which is very hard to measure.

Woodson has been a confident

Woodson has been a confident yet classy player all the way back to his college days.  He has never let his ego become an issue and yet there is no doubt about the self confidence he has inherent within himself.  He plays with a swagger but he is not a jerk while doing it.

Woodson plays a peculiar

Woodson plays a peculiar position which is why he didnpt make it.  See previous post..

Woodson is accepted as a

Woodson is accepted as a great player having a great season.  The problem is that in Dom Caper's defense he doesn't play a specific position.  He roams and is assigned CB as a designation. So when compared to other corners, he doesn't hold up as well.  However, for overall impact on defense, he is in the Polamalu realm for sure.

Not bad for a college

Not bad for a college team...3 HOFers.  I wonder how many players from that team made NFL rosters?  20 or more?

If he gets a Super Bowl win

If he gets a Super Bowl win and a couple more good year.  He should definitely be a lock.

That is a great point.  Not

That is a great point.  Not many bigger big game players and the steady stats to back it up.

I hear what you are saying,

I hear what you are saying, but I disagree.  Only 5-6 get in each year.  That means the numbers are pretty standard.  And with the number of teams at 32 where in the past there were 4-8 fewer teams, I think it is still a good barometer.

Being a guard might hurt

Being a guard might hurt Hutch a little, but he has been so steady.  He should also get in.

He should get it absolutely.

Woodson having as many Super

Woodson having as many Super Bowls as Manning as well as winning the Heisman and NC over him would be an extra special treat from the game.  "Go Pack Go!!!"

I understand the concern, but

I understand the concern, but Hoke has little in the defensive cupboard right now.  RR had some offensive guys, he just couldn't get them to or didn't want them to stay: Mallet, Arrington, Boren, Manningham.  I am okay with the initial heavy emphasis on defense.

that is the best clip!!!

that is the best clip!!!

I love Woodley

I love Woodley but:

  • Woodson went 3-0 versus the Buckeyes and Woodley did not do so well.
  • Woodson is still the only defensive player to win a Heisman trophy.
  • Woodson and crew brought home the NC in 97 and Woodley and his crew couldn't finish the job in 06.
  • Woodley already won with the Steelers in 08.

Also, if Woodson helps the Packers win this Super Bowl then his Hall of Fame resume will be that much stronger.  Having two former Wolverines get in with Brady and Woodson would be GREAT and bode well for the Michigan lore.  "Go Pack Go!"
