Date Title Body
NW 1996

Part of the NW trip 1996 was playing in pre-UFO Soldier Field for a Bears/Packers game which had Desmond Howard fielded some punts for GB.  I presume the planning for that game was more about the NFL piece than the NW piece.  Though, NW was briefly decent having just come out of a Rose Bowl berth.

Woot + Photoshop

I cannablized the 'Don't Walk / Silly Walk' woot.com shirt design, added a few dots, and updated the colors to match the MMB uniform

Embed powers fail, but that's Jim Harbaugh chowing in a sea of teal.

The 49ers might still be in play?

Tomsula was fired and the vacancy was not filled.  Jim Harbuagh sighted in the area?  NO! NO! NO!  I am going to assume he is there for Dylan Larkin or family, but not Jed York.  I really think Jed York has had enough.  No more 49ers for Jim, please!

I was going to post the same thing as I live in San Jose.

Hyperbole

Mr. Fred Jackson.  is that you?

ESPN3

For those of us outside of the ABC area running the Michigan game with the prospect of the GERG show....   it might be time to grab the computer and bust out the HDMI cable.  ESPN3 does stream in HD and according to the schedule, it will simulcast there.

I have Marshawn Lynch on my roster

My team name is "Taste the Rainbow"

Paint

I brought a jersey to Sherwin Williams to compare it against the paint chips, and got it pretty close to the old home Henne #7 Nike replica.  I painted up a ping pong table that turned out quite accurate.

Sunday Off

I don't think that Sunday is actually off.  Typically, that Sunday is first look.  Usually a few hours to either rest and/or prepare for that.

They like to treat that as a closed "rehearsal" and leave it off of the public calendar.

Footwork

Watch his right foot.  There's an awkward hitch that goes away and becomes more smooth and natural.

Yahoo

Yahoo should apologize to its readers for clearly using the term 'Expert' too loosely in Dan Wetzel's job title.

ESPN reaction has subs...

it is crazy.

SCAM ALERT

The hoodie with the big block M that is supposed to be blue is actually black.  Finish Line is a big fail here.

True Identity

I think you may have the number wrong in your name.  Are you sure you aren't Patrick Omameh?

I'm in favor of the change

"You suck" implies that the defense getting a stop has little to do with Michigan's Defense being good.

Our cheers and chants should be about pumping up our own team.  Negativity toward the other school doesn't really do that.

Alpine

I still need to get my hands on Alpine's Nelson.  Have you tried Widmer's Nelson?  It's not bad.

Or much from Drake's?  I had a Denogginizer with lunch.

grocery store with draft beer

I like my mudroom with homebrew draft beer.

Growler

I have a growler of your avatar in my fridge.  I am likely to crack it open tonight.

To point #3

Don't forget about Ian White.  He still has one more year.  With Suter, you could leave Kindl or Smith in Grand Rapids.  With the late addition of Qunicey last season, I don't know that the blue line really needs much more than a top 2 guy like Suter would be.  With that, your point about trading a D-man in point 6 makes a little more sense... especially if by some chance Stuart doesn't sign in SJ.  If things all work in the Wings favor and we have Suter/White, Kronwall/Stuart, Ericsson/Quincey, that would be just fine with me.  I would think Ericsson and Kindl would be on the block before Smith though imo.

Oddly enough

I just looked at the satellite image on Google maps again.  I know that rows A and B are the first two rows all around the stadium.

It appears that ticketed row 14 is the row over the tunnel as you can see the top piece is kicked up and a single maize bleacher is a piece of it.

Judging by your photo and...

the many sets of entries I have done through that very tunnel, I would like to point out the second piece you mention is in fact on the south side of the tunnel in case this would help identify the appropriate seat numbers that split the aisle.

I wish I saw this earlier

My one slacker photoshop job was my fancy new avatar.

Anyone else see that with today's shirt on woot.com?

you sir

just earned a new job.

Bronx Bowl

I actually think the Pinstripe Bowl name is clever enough given that it's in Yankee Stadium.  HOWEVA--  If you want to call it the Bronx Bowl and/or hate the Yankees, should we call it the Bronx Cheer Bowl?

I'm with you on this

If I could spend 8-9 hours on a football saturday in the MMB, an average student can handle 4 hours on a saturday.

Few things to me are more annoying seeing the games on TV from Cali than the student section having empty seats.  I get that tomato can opponents can be tough to sit through, but at least stay until the game is decided.

Pahokee usually doesn't trip...

Pahokee usually doesn't trip...  Pahokee just embeds.

Jersey Numbers

Tacopants can't be #11 because it's retired.  Tacopants must have grown a foot.

It would be nice if it happened tonight

I'm planning on being there tonight to see it with my own two eyes.

If there's one thing that makes the Oakland Coliseum (or O.co Coliseum now?) look better, it's the Tigers clinching the division in it.

Seriously, they can rename that abomination of a stadium all they want, but it's always going to be a piece of junk.

Yosemite Sam

I could not, would not, on a boat.
I will not, will not, with a goat.
I will not eat them in the rain.
I will not eat them on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I will not eat them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them ANYWHERE!

Can't Turn You Loose

The MMB CD titled 'A Satruday Tradition' has it as track 19 and can be purchased from the MMB's website for $20.

True, but

I can take a game off of TV and listen to the radio.  It's one small price to pay.

The person above you...

has never marched.

The thought of field turf on elbel makes my knees hurt much less.  There is nothing we can do about high step on hardwood (pictured above) though.

as it turns out...

it was actually I-L-L's new record.

or...

did someone forget the hyphen in Michigan's record at 4pm on Saturday?

54 looks like 5-4 to me.  I'm all for optimism, but this is the one I'd put more money on.

Even outside of Columbus

I work with a tOSU fan in silicon valley, and he has a lot of fun watching Denard run wild and has to remind himself that he's a tOSU fan.

He's also worried that his team might lose the game this year.

weddings

I got married on a Sunday in September.  Saturday was spent at Mich/Wisc '06.

Alas, 2 fellow alums are getting married on Saturday during the game.  They planned it knowing full well what game was on that day claiming that they "didn't care".  The Michigan Football fan part of them is dead to me.

In this case...

While I agree with your argument, history in this case is telling us "no matter how bad Michigan has been for whatever seemingly uncontrollable reason, Michigan wins at home when they should."

With that said, (similar to your point) I am going in to this game with preseason expectations...  believe the win when I see it, and be happy.

if it were up to me...

I'd open up whoop(p)ass

homebrew.

This round consists of an Amber malted version of an American IPA and also a pale ale that was wet hopped.

cazzie

just because we haven't seen it...

doesn't mean it wouldn't happen if we retired numbers like the Montreal Canadiens.

Those guys wear all kinds of whack numbers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Canadiens#Current_roster

there are only 2 single digits numbers left.

Wisconsin game

My wife and I moved our wedding to Sunday so we could be at Wisc 06.

I touched on that subject in my life story in the "why do you care about Michigan?" thread, but that's just one more detail.  Another detail: Where I proposed...  is visible on TV during every home game.

edit: doing the math correctly, that was 9/24/06.  Any other marriage related M stories of note?  I find them interesting AND cool.

Homebrew

India Amber Ale - Built like an IPA but with amber malt.

Dare we try...

a 20% success rate in practice?

Here's my logical attempt in 554 words... woo life story

I remember starting to watch football when I was roughly 6 years old.  When I was finally old enough to go to games with my parents (family trips, or my dad’s business related trips), I remember being amazed at the size of the stadium when in person and how the team was always expected to win no matter the opponent.   I was usually in the company of filthy rich people.  Even if they didn’t associate with the University directly, they were usually well off and cared about Michigan Football.  There just seemed to be an unexplainable draw, and I wanted to know more.

The first few times I was in Michigan Stadium, the colors always appealed to my eye and Michigan would have a good tailback, a good quarterback, and top notch receivers.  The names that stick out in my mind are Grbac, Wheatley, Howard, and Alexander from that time.  The more I visited Ann Arbor (for football or otherwise), the more I was drawn to the city and the school.  From that point on, my brother and I knew we each had to go to Michigan.  After watching him complete his time there, I began to truly understand what the University of Michigan really offered and its passion for excellence in everything including football (and other athletics).

During my time at school, I met the woman who's now my wife, we both have Michigan degrees, and we have an equal emotional investment to the University and the football team for different reasons.  I have grown up with Michigan and many of the things that make me who I am are because of the University.  I would not trade my experiences for anything.

After I graduated, I moved out of Michigan and was really surprised by the masses of people that have admiration for, a connection to, or general feeling caused by Michigan’s reputation.  Usually, the people that hate [are gonna hate] are people who went to or are associated with MooU or tOSU or couldn’t get in.  Outside of that, there’s a genuine respect for the school as a whole as if everyone views Michigan as a premier school in the world.

The “why I love Michigan Football” is much more than a player missing gaps and assignments, a missed field goal (or what seems like all), or an incomplete pass to end a game.  Michigan Football is extension of everything great that makes up the University.  For me, Michigan Football was best summed up before I was born with this excerpt:

“There runs through the core of all Michigan activities both on and off this campus a certain intangible thing. We call it "The Michigan Spirit".  Maybe you can relate to it.  It's the atmosphere that permeates that stadium every Saturday afternoon in the fall where over a hundred thousand fans patiently wait to see whether Bo Schembechler is going to continue his winning ways. You know what I mean! You can feel the tension, the excitement, the charisma that surrounds that stadium every Saturday afternoon.” –Bob Ufer

Michigan is bigger than I can imagine, and I keep learning that long after my time there.  When it comes down to it, a win is a win.  Be happy for all that is winning.

I am done channeling my inner Ufer.  Go Blue!
