Don't forget about Ian White. He still has one more year. With Suter, you could leave Kindl or Smith in Grand Rapids. With the late addition of Qunicey last season, I don't know that the blue line really needs much more than a top 2 guy like Suter would be. With that, your point about trading a D-man in point 6 makes a little more sense... especially if by some chance Stuart doesn't sign in SJ. If things all work in the Wings favor and we have Suter/White, Kronwall/Stuart, Ericsson/Quincey, that would be just fine with me. I would think Ericsson and Kindl would be on the block before Smith though imo.

I remember starting to watch football when I was roughly 6 years old. When I was finally old enough to go to games with my parents (family trips, or my dad’s business related trips), I remember being amazed at the size of the stadium when in person and how the team was always expected to win no matter the opponent. I was usually in the company of filthy rich people. Even if they didn’t associate with the University directly, they were usually well off and cared about Michigan Football. There just seemed to be an unexplainable draw, and I wanted to know more.
The first few times I was in Michigan Stadium, the colors always appealed to my eye and Michigan would have a good tailback, a good quarterback, and top notch receivers. The names that stick out in my mind are Grbac, Wheatley, Howard, and Alexander from that time. The more I visited Ann Arbor (for football or otherwise), the more I was drawn to the city and the school. From that point on, my brother and I knew we each had to go to Michigan. After watching him complete his time there, I began to truly understand what the University of Michigan really offered and its passion for excellence in everything including football (and other athletics).
During my time at school, I met the woman who's now my wife, we both have Michigan degrees, and we have an equal emotional investment to the University and the football team for different reasons. I have grown up with Michigan and many of the things that make me who I am are because of the University. I would not trade my experiences for anything.
After I graduated, I moved out of Michigan and was really surprised by the masses of people that have admiration for, a connection to, or general feeling caused by Michigan’s reputation. Usually, the people that hate [are gonna hate] are people who went to or are associated with MooU or tOSU or couldn’t get in. Outside of that, there’s a genuine respect for the school as a whole as if everyone views Michigan as a premier school in the world.
The “why I love Michigan Football” is much more than a player missing gaps and assignments, a missed field goal (or what seems like all), or an incomplete pass to end a game. Michigan Football is extension of everything great that makes up the University. For me, Michigan Football was best summed up before I was born with this excerpt:
“There runs through the core of all Michigan activities both on and off this campus a certain intangible thing. We call it "The Michigan Spirit". Maybe you can relate to it. It's the atmosphere that permeates that stadium every Saturday afternoon in the fall where over a hundred thousand fans patiently wait to see whether Bo Schembechler is going to continue his winning ways. You know what I mean! You can feel the tension, the excitement, the charisma that surrounds that stadium every Saturday afternoon.” –Bob Ufer
Michigan is bigger than I can imagine, and I keep learning that long after my time there. When it comes down to it, a win is a win. Be happy for all that is winning.
I am done channeling my inner Ufer. Go Blue!

This would also bring up the "What Heisman candidate could be removed from that team, and how drastic would that change be?" argument. If Michigan goes 6-6 full Denard going full bore, I'd imagine it'd be much much worse without him.
|5 years 9 weeks ago||Todd Collins||
Todd Collins also fell into that category for me stat wise. I was too young to remember any interviews, so I don't remember his personality, but for starting 2 seasons, he had solid numbers.
But Brady to Navarre reminded me a lot of Grbac to Collins at the time Navarre was getting all of the criticism.
ed: well, Brady to Navarre admittedly had the Drew Henson drama, so it wasn't exactly the same.

|5 years 10 weeks ago||Comcast||
As mentioned above... San Jose, CA. Only place I've been since I left Ann Arbor.
I swore off Comcast before the BTN existed. My issues were more numerous and more related to signal quality/strength and what they called good. Plus, now that I've switched, the channel lineups make much more sense than they ever did with any cable provider I've seen.
They lump things together that make sense. All of the ESPNs are together, the network stations get their actual numbers as assigned in the local market (ie WDIV is actually 4 and not some random ~230 number) All of the news channels (garbage) are together.
Also, they rarely think adjusting the lineup is a good idea. Most cable stations have had the same numbers since I originally signed up 8 years ago. The same can't be said for ESPN2 on most comcast systems. Plus, the HD channel is the same number and auto-tunes in to the HD version when available. None of this ESPN on 13 and ESPNHD on~173 bullshit.
So roughly the similar amount of money spent on internet (I let CC do that) and dish for tv, I'm paying roughly $105/month, the rate hasn't changed very much, I get all of the stations I want, the signal is great, and the channel lineup makes sense.
Also, before you bring up the rain/storm argument, check the almanac. It barely rains a drop between May and October. Plus, the rainy season never brings thunderstorms, and even when I had storms in AA, the dish signal rarely went out. It either had to be covered in snow, or a tornado directly overhead. Again, it happened, but very very rare.
feel free to admit tl:dr...
|5 years 10 weeks ago||What I do love...||
That statement usually holds true with comcast.
As I tell my friends, "Comcast isn't allowed to deliver TV service to my house." as if comcast is sitting in the corner in a timeout.

This is the alumni club finder. There appears to be 7 clubs in FL, so hopefully one is near you. I live in San Jose, CA and use the local club here when my TV is not getting the game (which hasn't happened thanks to BTN).

Not to make this seem like I'm bashing the San Jose paper for no good reason.
No one (local) cares about college football in San Jose. The 2 nearest "big time" schools are Cal and Stanford. They're typically ranging anywhere from mediocre to ok with flashes of brilliance. Everyone in the bay area is still distracted by the 1990s 49ers and Raiders. It doesn't surprise me that they would be missing some information.
With that said, most of the transplants that do like college football, care not about Stanford and Cal. 49ers fans, however, are most like Irish fans because when they win 2 games it's "RETURN TO GLORY!"

The initial audition historically rarely says no.
As for not marching in high school... it shouldn't be too much of a hardship. The performance block auditions on a weekly basis are very challenging especially for first year MMB kids whether or not they have been in a high school band or not.
My best advice: If you want to have a better chance at marching more often in your freshman year, be in good physical shape. Lots of cardiovascular workouts and leg exercises that focus on quads and calves. Lungs and legs... you'll be a big step ahead of the learning curve that way.
The pregame show is more physically demanding than it might look.
|5 years 11 weeks ago||Rittenberg||
Usually, my only issue with him is just how much of a dweeb he is. His content is normally pretty honest and true. If he says something negative about Michigan, it's usually not too far off.
Speaking of ESPN, I normally think Herbstreit is tolerable and calls things how he sees them. He just has a problem seeing sometimes (like before this Saturday), but usually overcompensates when he's wrong (Saturday night). Still not terrible w/re: to Michigan considering that he was knocked the f**k out by a Michigan D.
|5 years 11 weeks ago||I don't know that it needs to be a creative composition.||
I think the generic argument against "you suck" is that the Michigan crowd should do 2 things:
1) Cheer for Michigan
2) If you insult another team, make it timely and clever (i.e. comedic). (See M Hockey crowd. There's a method to all of that madness, and it's a beautiful thing)
I'm all for being insulting in a crowd enviroment... in the spirit of arrogance.
|5 years 11 weeks ago||One note about the hockey band.||
Because they represent the University as a University sponsored group, we were explicitly forbidden from saying words like "suck" or "chump, dick, wuss, douchebag......"
Not that we didn't partake here and there, but it was always without hand motions and the vocals were always under our breathe for anything remotely bordering on vulgar/obscene.

The last thing you want do is feel rushed on your first game.
For the 3:30 kick, the band will probably be out rehearsing at 9am. Later games just mean longer tailgates, so there's almost no such thing as showing up too early. Especially with this being the first game of the season, there's likely to be more people out early as everyone is itching for football.
Some people will have postgame tailgates too. They're generally more fun after a win.
After the game, it's really up to you what you want to do. My preference is to find somewhere to watch the prime time game with a burger and a beer. Oregon St vs. TCU should be rolling by the time you find somewhere to go.

|5 years 16 weeks ago||9/11 caused this to change||
pre 9/11, it was a straight drop after varsity, and then the ROTC color guard would be announced to raise the US flag to the Star Spangled Banner before the teams hit the field. After the banner, Victors off the field while the visiting players are coming out of the tunnel.
post 9/11, both teams are brought out to hear the national anthem, so Let's Go Blue sort of adds time for the teams to get up the tunnel, pump up the crowd, and split the M for the M Club Supports you banner to be set up. This is also when the band turned to the north endzone (to avoid the team) to play the Victors off the field instead of toward the press box (where there were previously no players).

|6 years 10 weeks ago||There is an additional problem||
I am a former MMB member 2001-2004.
There's not necessarily an issue of whether or not the band is loud vs. sounding good. The band is loud. The sound from the band is also very directional. This is most obvious during the Let's Go Blue rotation during the pre-game show. Each sideline and endzone gets one shot. I'm also guessing that the students have never heard the MMB play the opposing fight song every week to the south endzone.
When the band was on the visitor's sideline, it was very loud to the student section, but still couldn't be heard very well in the south end zone at all. From time to time, Prof Nix would have the band turn toward another direction, and the band could be heard well in the direction of the pointing.
The 2 band idea would only work if they were not supposed to be playing the same thing at the same time. There are multiple issues with concerning phasing and echoes and listening for intonation and things like that.
Until there is a way to direct the sound everywhere, this problem will just continue to exist. And to test my theory of band loudness. Go walk on Hoover street just west of Division between 4:45 and 6:15 during the week (at least that was the schedule a few years ago). There is plenty of volume coming out of the band. (Yes, I know this is the opposite end of Elbel Field... attempting to have the point proven from some distance)
Btw, most other college bands that blast at high volumes sound terrible. (See Wisconsin, specifically, sounds painful) I would hate to hear Michigan play the Victors similar to how it sounded on 1986 UM vs. ND replay. That was awful.

|6 years 11 weeks ago||Boise State||
Before we get all happy putting all of these podunk mid-major patsies (normally) in a secluded conference all by themselves (which only re-creates the same problem), we might just want to address the issue at hand. The issue is Boise State. In the past 10-15 years, they are actually the one mid-major that has threatened to have a sustainable program.
Boise State could be added to the Pac 10... like Penn State was to the Big 10. (No, I'm not saying Boise St is at Penn St level pre-Big Ten) I'm noticing a natural fit in to the Pac 10 conference. They could make some kind of creative logo like the Big 10 did to have the number 11 in it, and still call it Pac 10.
It's local enough to the rest of the Pac 10 schools (especially the ones in Washington and Oregon), and there'd be ample more chances for them to be bludgened.
The other 9 mentioned above haven't been as consistent as Boise. (possible exception in BYU and TCU... maybe Utah, but give it time) Fresno State would be a better fit than a few of those schools, but again they've dropped off after David Carr left.
While these 9 have been lucky/good recently, Boise State is the only school in the above subset that I believe can make it in a big conference like the Pac 10. BCS berths (and results) help me believe they can do it now.
