for the three of you defending Hunter lochmann, he is the one that moved hockey and then football to general admission, he is the one that oversold student basketball tickets, he is the one responsible for the coke debacle, the noodle, chobani, etc. He has made numerous terrible decisions, and kept his job thru all of this until Dave Brandon finally "resigned". Glad to see Hackett actually holds people accountable. I don't believe the resigned story either.

|49 weeks 1 day ago||My Story||
I was at the Big Ten AD Golf Challenge held between Michigan and MSU probably three years ago now, and I was one of at most 20 spectators. I was wandering the course with a stranger, mostly ahead of the field.
On our way back in towards the clubhouse, we passed by the Hollis/Brandon pairing and Hollis passed the two of us dressed in Michigan clothing and asked us how our day was going unprompted and we had some polite chit-chat back and forth for a couple of minutes. Then we passed by Dave Brandon and gave him a Go Blue, and absolutely no response.
That's the difference between the two athletic directors. Who would you want representing your university? I have had respect for Mark Hollis ever since. And my hatred for Dave Brandon has grown ever since he moved Michigan hockey student tickets to general admission. I told Hunter Lochmann (Associate AD of ticketing) at that time that if they went that way with football which they were leaning towards, it would go disastrously. But hey what do I know, I'm only an engineer not a great business mind like those two. /end rant

Yep CoY is a decent concept that tried to copy the Maize Rage, but one of the great things about Yost was how spontaneous everything was, especially the cheers. You'll be hard pressed nowadays to hear a unique cheer at any specific game.
I'm sure you remember how intense that BC game was in 05 (?). Compare that to the BC crowd we had this year. A whole new animal. Yost used to be an intimidating place to play, but I just don't see that anymore, and it's real unfortunate for the fans as well as the team.

They'll do the name-sieve-name-sieve chant. As well as goalie-sieve-goalie-sieve. And also ugly goalie. But other than that, these last two years I haven't heard anything creative. I rarely ever even hear "Hey goalie, you're not a goalie you're a sieve, you're not a sieve, you're a funnel...etc." Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And definitely no phone "hey goalie, it's your mom, she says, you suck." Yost is a shell of its former glory and yes it is devastating. Once again I blame Hunter Lochmann, chief marketing officer.
|1 year 43 weeks ago||The student section at Yost||
The student section at Yost this year is definitely a lot better than it was at any point last year, so maybe it is the winning that helps. Or it could be the bigger matchups (BU, BC, Umass-Lowell). But it's still nowhere like it was pre-renovation, your last year.
I would say a large portion of it is that they moved the students away from the boards, with only a couple sections allowing you to be down low. The sections behind the Michigan and away bench are visiting family and sponsors with the students not being allowed to sit there until the 12th row or something like that. I know we used to be the fourth row behind the Michigan bench so we could read Red's shootout cards. This also helped when the opposing team would call timeouts. When BU called a timeout, there was not much anyone could do.
In addition, I feel like general admission hurt the student section. Now the student section is everyone crowidng over towards the band side, and it's not spread out as much. It also is the same chants over and over with no creativity. And also bringing of as many flags as possible. The part about Yost I loved was the random things that the students would yell based on the situation, rather than preplanned routines.
And that is why I stopped buying student season tickets and just bum tickets in regular seats as much as I can. I will not in my 9th year now get there 30-60 minutes early to get a seat on the glass. Just not worth it anymore. And that is also why I hate Hunter Lochmann.

I wish I could donate to the student athletes, and support them, but every dollar I donate to them goes to show Dave Brandon and Hunter Lochmann that what they are doing is working. The only way to protest their actions is to not donate. Words do not matter to them, as long as the bottom line is looking good that is all they care about.
And you've hit it dead on, I've taken this very personally. This stems back to when they took hockey students to general admission a year ago. They took away my 8 years of priority seating, and put us all in the same bin. How would season football ticket holders feel if all of a sudden the seats you've had for years were just randomly redistributed (yes I know it's GA and not random)? I was in fact able to get Red on my side, and he asked the ticket office to help me out, but Hunter denied this request. If I was a high level donor, my request would've been fulfilled, but as a student I was ignored. It doesn't matter that I was a handful of students to be in Albany and St Louis, loyalty doesn't matter to them. And thus, loyalty when it comes to the athletic department does not matter to me.
P.S. Red is a great man.

Ok, I thought when you said "It doesn't explicitly say that students won't receive refunds to games not attended in that Daily article, so maybe they will." that you were talking about tickets they don't claim. I imagine a lot of games they will end up double selling those tickets as you say, and if it is to the general public, I imagine it will be at a higher cost (it has to be at least face value otherwise it hurts season ticket holders). The ticket office is just praying that there isn't a game where more than 3000 students claim a ticket.
P.S. John Navarre is the best.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||You received a refund for the||
You received a refund for the games you weren't given a ticket to. Do you think the students will get a refund for the games they don't submit a claim for? I personally don't see the athletic department passing up that money by saying that they had a right to go to the games they just chose not to.
I can see students not submitting claims to games they're not sure if they can attend as they are scared of losing the privilege to go to games later in the season.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||I'll be stunned if I see the||
I'll be stunned if I see the ticket office returning money for games that students don't claim, I can't see them giving money back. The discount is because this is COLLEGE ATHLETICS, this is originally a game played for the students, now it's being turned into a moneymaking opportunity.
And my point by saying them being honest is their quote from the April 23rd email guaranteeing students who ordered by the deadline "a seat." Not guaranteeing a seat if and only if you go to every previous game you submitted a claim for.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||They have 3000 seats, but||
They have 3000 seats, but they're selling 4500 ($30,000). If any tickets are unclaimed by students, they'll be resold also. It's maximizing revenue by overselling with no penalty. If they wanted to be honest, they'd give all 4500 students that bought season ticket packages tickets, and get rid of 1500 single game tickets.

It looks like sometime between the deadline and May 22, they added this clause "Please note, due to potential demand and the very limited available seating in Crisler Center, there may be a limit on student tickets."
I'm not the best at this computer science stuff, so if it was there before the deadline, I'll eat my words. I hope someone has a screenshot though.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||That's actually incorrect.||
That's actually incorrect. What you're describing is Involuntary Denied Boarding situation and there is required compensation for that, which is actually a lot more than someone who volunteers in an overbooked situation (VDB).
The analogy would be that if they found you another seat in the arena, nearly as good as your student section seat than they wouldn't have to give you any compensation.
"No compensation is due if your airline finds alternate transportation that will get you to your next stopover point or final destination within one hour after the scheduled arrival time of your original flight. For flights getting you to your next point or destination more than one hour but less than two hours, cash compensation equivalent to 200% of the one-way fare on the flight you were bumped off to a maximum of $650. Flights getting you to your next point or destination more than two hours from the original time will net you cash compensation of 400% of the one-way fare to a maximum of $1,300."

Also, looking back through pictures of that game, the student section looks full, and if I remember correctly from my experience, it was pretty cramped in there.
The only figure I see routinely trotted out is the 7k out of 22k students didnt make NW, if 20% (4.4k) of the 22k students didn't make it to MSU, I imagine the AD would've made a big stink about it.

But all three of these facilties are undergoing renovations.

One way to avoid people putting up absolutely random players, is that the person who puts the player up on the block, must also bid a minimum of $1 on him. But this also makes putting up kickers that you wouldn't mind getting for $1 a sound strategy early on.
The most entertaining part is when one player puts up A. Foster, and most people realize it's not Arian Foster but a different A. Foster, except for that one guy in your league who is only half paying attention and he gets screwed.

|2 years 7 weeks ago||I agree with your assessment||
I agree with your assessment on Garza that Theo will keep him if he doesn't get the value he wants. I don't think they're anywhere near an extension though, but they will give him a qualifying offer at the end of the year giving them a compensatory pick at the end of the first round, which could be quite valuable. Thus the thinking is, if you don't get trade value greater than that compensatory pick, you hold on to him.
I do like that Feldman/Arrieta trade, but apparently Arrieta had a terrible first outing. I could still see him panning out.
The international slot money is where I think they dropped the ball. From everything I've heard they're going to be >15% over their international pool even if they max out all their trades, above which there is really no additional penalty you can incur. Thus, why are you trading Torreyes for more international slot money? Why did you want Baltimore's international money? On the other hand, if you're trying to stay below 15% over, why are you trading Marmol along with international money? I originally thought they didn't need the additional money they traded to the Dodgers, but that's clearly not the case.
My hypothesis is that either a couple deals fell through as they didn't realize how coveted international money was to other teams, or partway through the signings they realized they were in or more players than they thought and decided to go all in this season and just trade away their international money next year.

As a Cubs fan this is the most exciting month of the season for me. The Cubs really made a splash in the international free agent market at the start of the month, just another indicator that they're looking well down the road.
Almost everyone on the Cubs is on the trading block including Starlin who has had an incredibly underwhelming season, doesn't really fit into TheoJed's OBP philosophy, and could possibly be had for a nonridiculous price this season.
Gregg most likely can be had for relatively cheap, definitely a lot cheaper than Papelbon, I'm still not convinced he's the real deal though. Garza will be insanely expensive as he is by most accounts the best SP left on the trade block.
Can't see anyone else the Tigers would really want from the Cubs, maybe Darwin Barney if Infante is out for a while, but I'm not sure he's a significant step up from Perez or Santiago. Maybe another lefty in James Russell, as Coke hasn't been that great this season?

"I went to undergrad at Michigan, and I'm now in a PhD program at Harvard, which involves me teaching undergrads.
Kinda seems like a lot of these comments are pure speculation, so let me weigh in.
The dumbest kids at Harvard are smarter than the dumbest kids at Michigan. The smartest kids at Harvard are not smarter than the smartest kids at Michigan. So yeah, the kids you meet at Harvard will on the whole be smarter and ultimately more successful than your peers at Michigan, but the latter is largely a result of the totally irrational value placed on a Harvard undergrad degree by people who just don't know any better.
I feel qualified to say this -- the quality of instruction is absolutely not better at Harvard, and in many cases, it's worse, given that faculty are under much greater research pressure and have much less incentive to pay attention to their undergrads.
If your daughter absolutely knows that she wants to go into finance or consulting, she should go to Harvard. If she has any other interests, she's probably better off avoiding the grade-grubbing hoop-jumping conformists that mostly populate Harvard.
If Harvard has taught me anything, it's that you can't underestimate how much college would absolutely suck without a good football or basketball team."

So very very wrong. Granted, I should give them another try since they came out with their Bigs, but Potbelly's used to have the tiniest sandwiches. What am I supposed to do with a 7 inch sandwich? And where is Quizno's on the list? So from my outdated rankings it goes
Jimmy John's > Quizno's > Subway > Potbelly's
If we had more Penn Stations around AA, I'd be a happy guy. But Dibella's and Mancino's would rank ahead of all of these.

I saw it last night, and I actually thought it was pretty funny. Parts of it were very predictable, but still very entertaining. Well when they moved hockey to GA last year, it was hinted to me that football was headed that way too. If only more people had complained with me about hockey going GA this would've been avoided. Luckily I am finally graduating, and won't be around to witness this clusterf*** next year. Good luck students, sorry to you upperclassmen.

Mind me asking which bar that was? Odd, didn't notice that happening at Charley's. A buddy and I actually went to Lexington last year for the natl championship game, and it was a great time. We were there just for a good old fashioned riot. It lived up to expectations.

The word failure is enough. This team is not a failure, nor is the season. The season may not be up to Michigan hockey standards, but 8-1-1 in the last 10 games, a streak that most teams would die for. Ran into a hotter/better team, and the season came to a crashing halt.
Sadly for you, I do teach, and I would at no point call any one of them failures. I'm glad Brian can sit behind a keyboard and blog about how the team is a failure.
I come here solely for the news as it is by far the fastest Michigan sporting news aggregate.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||This team clearly had||
This team clearly had chemistry issues at the start of the season, but put it all together towards the end and really gave it their all down their stretch. The look on some of those players'' faces after the game Sunday was heartbreaking. To call the team a failure is a crime. I hope you never coach a youth sports team ever. What a joke of a statement. Embarassing.

I'll admit it. We went down to Ole Miss in the 2011 season to see what all the hoopla was about. It defeinitely lived up to the hype, and I highly suggest anyone able to to make the trip. Tickets are very, very cheap, for great seats. Also, not only are the girls as gorgeous as the ones you google, but the tailgaters are super friendly. Invited into a few tailgates to eat and drink as we please, and stopped by numerous other fans just to chat. Of course there were the jeers and the like, but nothing harsh. In addition, we even saw another group of Michigan fans from afar. Make the trip!

We (Cubs) were the first team to offer Sanchez 5 years from what I heard. Tigers had been hoping to stick at 4 years, but the Cubs offer of 5 years 75 mill, and eventually 5 years 77.5 mill is what made the Tigers up their offer.

That was precisely the comparison that we were looking for. we were at Jacksonville landing for nye two years ago and loved it. are the nye celebrations in Jacksonville landing and channelside similar? If anyone has experienced NYE at the Channelside Plaza specifically, an opinion on that would be very useful also.

after the game, at least 5 groups of OSU fans told us to "Drive home safely!" Such nice people. But in all seriousness, before the game everyone was very cordial, the most harsh words were said right outside the stadium right after the game. And the 40+ year old drunk women are by far the most annoying. I found the crowd this year to be much nicer than 4 years ago when I went previously.

The Cowboys Stadium experience in general was awful. We had purchased a parking pass in advance for one of the Cowboys Stadium lots that were to open at noon, but since the lot had a SINGLE cashier that did not show up our crew of four cars weren't able to get in until 12:30 or so. Not a huge deal, but an easily solvable problem, by having multiple people you trust with money, or your workers show up on time.
In addition, after the game we had an event staff worker as we were exiting back to the parking lot tell us, completely unprompted, that it must have sucked watching our asses get kicked like that. Real classy Texas. On the other hand, not a single Bama fan talked trash to us or got in our face after the game. All very respectful people. Newfound respect for the Bama fanbase.

|3 years 1 week ago||Student tickets are still the||
Student tickets are still the entire (east?) side of Yost, with some spillover in a corner of the west side for freshmen if there was high demand. However, they moved the visiting team's parents to the opposite side from the student section and towards the goal line thus making it difficult to actually engage them (with the exception of the one and only shark that decided to eat a couple parents during a drunken rage). They actually moved Michigan's parents down to center ice on the student side for a while, but last year they relegated them to random corners of the arena. The nice seats in the first couple rows behind the Michigan bench we were told were given to sponsors. I had the luck of being the fourth row behind the Michigan bench right before the aisle way, so even though those first few rows behind the Michigan bench are empty, do not sit there as I like to stretch out, and I will call an usher on you (general statement to all the students who think an empty seat means that it's for them to take). Sorry.

Just to give a little bit more clarity. The away ticket opportunity for students opens for ~a week about a week after the season ticket window for students closes, so sometime in early April usually. I've only done the Plymouth one, and from what it sounds like from you, it is a lot shorter. You can get through the line in about 15-20 minutes if you catch it at the right time. Dead serious. Wore it to a game last year, don't even remember which one. Unimportant game, and I was relatively lazy, and thought it would be very comfortable. And it was, I would suggest all of you try it. I'm not ashamed of it, comfort before looking good. And the greatness about the snuggie is that it is open in the back so you don't even need to take it off to go to the bathroom, but obviously I won't take the snuggie into a BIg House bathroom. Let's not be disgusting here.
|3 years 13 weeks ago||I was caught alive in a snuggie.||
I wore the Michigan snuggie to a game last year, and people were damn jealous because I was pretty warm while they were cold. The one problem with the snuggie is that it tends to slip off your shoulders, so you have to tie it in the back for ease of use making it look like a backwards bathrobe. I strongly suggest wearing snuggies to chilly Michigan games in the future.

I like this idea as it would benefit me personally. But do you know the real way to get students to attend nonrevenue events? PUT A GOOD PRODUCT ON THE FIELD. As an example, the crowds at the end of that magical soccer run with Meram and the Saads two years ago were boisterous and full. The crowds at the end of this past season were nonexistant. The difference being one team was a national runner up, and the other struggled mightily. No knock on the soccer team, just a fact of life.

Yes, they reserve tickets for freshmen. Tickets never "sell out" for students. There's only a deadline. I thought the third pairing wasn't that bad on Friday night. It only got bad on Saturday because Kevin Clare suffered an injury that required Red to play both Serville and Chaisson, which I don't think we have seen since Merrill has come back. I didn't think it'd be that big of a loss, but Kevin Clare is clearly a step up from the other two. As long as Clare is back, there is no way Red will roll the top four significantly more often. Also, Travis Lynch was out on Saturday, and Rohrkemper was in for him. Another injury?

And secondly, I'm not saying that any of the locations are any better than another location, just that if it's some place you have never been, it's nice to enjoy a new vacation spot.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Orlando||
I was in Orlando for three days or so for the shuttle launch this past spring/summer. It is a pretty decent time. You can go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter/Universal Studios for a day. You can go to Epcot for a day. And then you can just drink for a day. It's not like you're going there to live. You're just exploring the city, there'll enough touristy things to do.
I was also in Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl, and while it wasn't as great of a bowl location as New Orleans, it was still a good time. Game day is spent tailgating and going to the game and crying as was the case last year. And then you also have New Year's Eve to knock off a day on the trip. You can also spend New Year's Day at the bar watching bowl games if your game isn't on that day.
Going to bowl games is just a good excuse to take another vacation in a location that you wouldn't normally go to and show your support for something that you do love. And yes, I will be in Dallas this September and exploring the Ft Worth area.

Any idea if we can just show up right at 10 AM and still be able to get in? Just want to witness it live. Never done basketball gameday.

Not sure about the first part. But I have a few ideas for part 2. Not sure how others do it, but I would suggest a software called Rasterbator (not a perverted joke). It allows you to upload an image, choose how big you would like it, and what size margins and then prints out multiple sheets of paper. It'll print everything using dots rather than solid ink to save ink I believe. However, from a distance it is perfect. From there you just line the pieces of paper up and tape them together. I would then suggest taping it to poster board or to cardboard.

This is the second email I received, which is what others were quoting I imagine.
And that was sent to nonseason ticket holders. So I imagine that means that everyone is welcome. All I was pointing out was the time that they would let you line up so people wouldn't waste their time.

This is part of an email that all student season ticket holders received last week.
It seems to indicate that they will not let people start to line up prior to 5 AM.

The free press is saying that it will be Western Michigan this year, but I thought I had previously heard it was St Cloud State. Not sure if they got the boot to try to get better attendance.

We have gotten together a group of 20+ recent alums/grad students, so not rich by any means, but we have decided to all meet in Dallas. A vacation/reunion of sorts. I would like the athletic department to continue scheduling interesting events in different locations like this.

The last two bowl games they allowed you to pick up student tickets at the Michigan Ticket Office before everyone left for break. Once at the stadium, you didn't have to show any id. This is different than they do for other postseason events such as hockey. If you buy hockey regional tickets or frozen four tickets as a student, you have to show MCard at the game site.
