One thing people keep missing is the involvement of seniors on the development of younger players, especially during the off-season. Effectively, more than half of all practices are lead by seniors. So when the senior class is decimated it really puts a damper on how much the younger players are going to learn.

Every thread bitches about the OC, so in a way they are all depreciation threads. I doubt anyone would say that mgoblog has a positive tone lately.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||I didn't think many of the||
I didn't think many of the calls on Michigan were bad, the issue is the level of no-calls on the other end of the court. The level of roughness called needs to be the same on both ends.
That's the main issue with NCAA officiating - since it exists in a grey area where any one call cannot be discussed in isolation, it therefore needs to be consistent with the rest of the officiating which makes it difficult to analyze.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||We didn't make our 3-point||
We didn't make our 3-point shots because they were contested - the only way you can open that up is to go inside. When we tried to go inside, they were fairly rough and were not getting called, but on othe other end of the court we couldn't have a clean block without getting called. Because of that, our defense opened up, probably more than it needed to. When you're playing a different game at each end of the court it makes things really hard. This is a major issue with NCAA basketball - either the team needs to learn how to adapt to it or we're going to have another dissapointing end to our tournament run.
Also, even mentioning the OC in a basketball thread should be a 1-week ban.

He needs to develop to get to the NFL and he might feel that his development will be more successful at Alabama.

"We run as many as 40 different looks at the defense in certain games. "
This seems to be the problem - if every play has its own look, then you have an easy time figuring out what the play is. He thinks his weakness is a strength.

A nice comment or two for SC might have made this all go smoother. I like the conflicting viewpoints both being prominent - they help prevent groupthink.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Nice work! Instead of weakest||
Instead of weakest link, i'd be interested in a "harmonic mean", which is a type of average that favors the smaller elements. It's like weakest link but doesn't go all the way, and it better seperate out teams with two inexperienced players versus 1.
The other thing would be to include the information about available seniors/juniors. If there was high attrition then that might cause the o-line to suffer significantly.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||It would be good to see a||
It would be good to see a post about teams and total # of formations in a given game, and how many plays out of each formation. Like...
Ohio: 40 plays, 5 formations, (10, 8, 8, 8, 6)
Michigan: 40 plays, 30 formations, (...........)
I guess that would be really hard to do...

I don't even let my cats see me do the same thing twice right before I feed them, otherwise they'd blitz the food bowl.
|4 weeks 11 hours ago||Yes, but those inexperienced||
Yes, but those inexperienced o-lines beat out more available experienced players. There's a big difference between having an redshirt freshman because he beat out juniors and seniors, versus having one because there arent any juniors and seniors.
The other issue with this plot is it should be using a harmonic mean, not an arithmetic one. If you insulate one part of your house really well, but not the other, your house is still going to be cold.

Maybe the older folk should petition the mgoblog staff to stop writing articles for a week and instead fix the comment system. I'm new, so I don't really have much to say about it.

When I was 12 and my brother was 10, he couldn't. But when I was 25 and he was 23, he could rip me apart. That said, he's still little brother!

Last year the Ravens replaced their Offensive Coordinator and then proceeded to win the superbowl. They did have to eat a couple losses first, though.

The NCAA is primarily motivated by public perception (among other thing$). The average Joe is not going to understand the merits of such a program without someone sitting down with him to explain it, so this would never get off the ground. You have to also keep in mind that such a program would need to fly with non-sports-fans too, let alone the hardcore fans..

Come play for our team. Every player will receive at least 100k in endorsements from local businesses. That state school doesn't offer nearly as many endorsements - you're much better off here.

He doesn't entirely sound like a student of the game (or at least that didn't come up). There's more to football than being big and fast.

Founder's should be #1. Dogfish Head adds too much sugar and other junk to their beers in order to get high stats like ABV. I haven't heard of Boulevard.

Clowney leaned way over to get the very top of his helmet to hit the bottom side of Vincent Smith's face mask. He was clearly trying to use his head as a battering ram. I want there to be hits in footbal too, but this kind of hit gets people badly injured.

They have responded to me quickly before - their email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
That said, I believe this falls under fair use or nomative use. You're not claiming to be UM - you're referring to them via their trademark.

Hoke could be trying to develop a reputation of closing his recruiting class early, which would put pressure on interested parties to commit earlier than later. Plus it makes it less likely that you have glaring holes in your recruitment and gives you the ability to focus on other things.

|34 weeks 3 days ago||Definitely A Charge||
The defender doesn't need to be perfectly stationary for it to be a charge. The slow-mo camera angle exaggerate's Morgan's motion - he only moved a couple inches either way after Trich launched.
The offensive player also needs to establish a path for it to be a charge. He was in a curving path that turned with his last step, so it could have at most be a no-call. Otherwise offensive players would always suddenly leap at however in the defense is moving.
TBH, journalists are not particularly familiar with the rules. I doubt they have ever cracked the rulebook open.
