Double negatives are ok and sometimes refreshing if they are intentional and well placed.  This double negative works just fine.

Yeah he played 10 games

on special teams...

I suppose...

I just wonder if this is just a convenient excuse because he simply doesn't want to visit them anymore...Wishful thinking, i know.

Seems like a strange reason to cancel...

Why would somebody schedule an official visit during their ACT?  He had to have had the ACT scheduled before hand right?

Is this just me?

Hoke had to leave the field

Actually, if you watched closely, the police had to run Hoke off the field because a couple of Ohio fans came up and tried to harass him.

So...either leave the field or stay and get some sort of cheap shot from a moron.

Never Forget

A few weeks ago Bacon went on

A few weeks ago Bacon went on a radio show and confirmed the school was Florida under Urban Meyer...

I like the Rose Bowl Idea

I think nights will get a little too crazy to actually meet up.

Not really damned if you do...

You're not really damned if you do considering if you go to a place like Michigan you will get the opportunity over the next four years to travel for free to many of those other campuses you could have as a recruit, as a Michigan player.

So yes, they are young and I understand that.  But Hoke does have a job to do and as we have gotten screwed over in the past (RE: DT) I appreciate the fact that Hoke is already trying to instill accountability in commitments before they get to campus (RE: TRich).

If you want to be at Michigan (which I would think you do if you would commit) then come to Michigan, go to the Rose Bowl, and get free travel and gifts when you go to Pasadena.

Also, if it is true that a commit knew the policy and went behind the coach's backs, that is a whole other issue that makes you consider whether the player really was committed to begin with.

This is how I imagine a convo would go

A recruit like TRich or Pharoah tells Hoke, "Coach I want to visit another school."

Hoke: "Ok.  We understand that you want to be sure of your decision.  But for the best interest of Michigan, we just want to let you know that while you are exploring other schools, if someone else is willing to commit at your spot, we cannot in our right minds wait around.  It would be putting us at a disadvantage. We appreciate your honesty and know this is a big decision.  We will continue to recruit you, but want you to know we cannot consider you 'committed' as long as you are going to other schools."

For Dudeness and others trying to say that it is petty for the coaches, remember what happened to Dequinta Jones...  What good does it do for Michigan to save a spot for someone who is taking visits.  We always say for recruits visiting Michigan, "You never know once they get on campus."  Well the same goes here.  And we will be screwed over if we continue to save spots for "commits" visiting other schools versus recruits who would be dying for a Michigan spot.

Get your childhood dreams of visiting schools in BEFORE you commit somewhere.  Why would you want a kid to come play for you if he really did go behind your back?  We don't know that this is what actually happened, but how could you trust a kid if he won't be up front with you.

From JoePa's Perspective

I want to preface this by saying that in light of the details that have come out and the fact that JoePa allowed Sandusky to still remain affiliated with the program after knowledge incidents I believe he has to be fired.  However, I do want to say also that I think people who are trying to say JoePa is automatically an awful man for this are not putting themselves in his shoes really.

We all would like to think that if we were in that situation, our immediate reaction would be to do the right thing and report to the police.  But put yourself in Joe Pa's shoes for a moment.  Imagine if someone came to you accusing your brother, or son, someone you have been close to for over twenty years, of sexually abusing a child.  Would you automatically assume it is true and report to the police?  I think if you consider how long JoePa knew Sandusky beforehand, it must have complicated things for him.  Again, I am not making an excuse and the fact that JoePa did not ask more probing questions, AND allowed the man to keep access to Penn State football is terrible.  But I imagine there must have been some fear and denial going on in JoePa's head which are very human emotions when you have a long-term relationship or attachment to someone.  JoePa had several children himself.  I am sure that in no way shape or form he condones sexual abuse, which makes his actions that much harder to understand.  But, again, I believe for JoePa it must have been extremely difficult to think that Sandusky could actually be doing these awful things, based on the fact that Sandusky was his player and very close to him for many years.

The details that have come out, and JoePa's reaction of saying he "did what he was supposed to do," are disturbing and cause for his dismissal.  But I am not ready to say he is automatically the worst person in the world because of it.  He should have done more, no question.  He should have banned Sandusky, no doubt. He should have though of the kids and reported it to the police.  But when you have known somebody for a long time and have accusations come out that rock the foundation of who you believed them to be, it must be alot tougher to come to terms with the reality of the situation.

Hoke's signing day presser

Remember back on signing day when Hoke said he would like to take two backs in each class for that reason exactly.  That backs are usually athletic enough to move elsewhere.

In fairness

I think this was probably decided before hand and if coaches are out recruiting instead of being at the presser I think that is much better.

Points for not mentioning Rick's

Can't stand rick's...feels like it should be in East Lansing

I'm probably one of the few vegetarians

that reads this blog but I must say Seva is actually very good.  If you eat meat, I highly recommend you do NOT get something on their menu imitating meat because as Brian said it won't be a good imitation.  But there are so many great options on their menu not imitating meat that you can leave there very happy.

Highly recommend the Enchiladas Calabaza which are butternut squash and very filling.

Also sweet potato fries.

Fuck

Agree with Dr. Porter-Szucs

I took his history of Roman Catholocism Class and he is able to keep you interested in his lectures and actually motivated me to read some of the dense readings we had in class.

Great teacher and good class.

Agree 100% with Psych 418

Psych 418 with Professor Mann was the only class I could ever imagine taking that actually changed my life in a positive way.  If you can take it spring term.  He is an emeritus professor and recently they tried to let him go but due to student response they have kept him on board.

Hands down the best class I took at Michigan and I'm still in touch with the professor.

I loved all Ralph Williams' classes too but he's gone so...

Meyer clean? Lied to Stonum.

Do you remember him lying to Stonum after Lloyd retired?  Urban Meyer is not clean regardless of what he says on TV nowadays.  Sorry about the link for this, I know the original story about Meyer lying to Stonum was on ESPN.com but I think its gone there now.

http://blogs.knoxnews.com/perez/2009/02/urban-meyer-an-alleged-cheater…

"Meyer apparently also lied to recruit Daryl Stonum (who eventually committed to Michigan):

"The University of Florida stayed on the four star pass-catcher well all the way through.  Things crescendoed recently after a conversation with Urban Meyer.  According to Stonum, Meyer had a compelling reason why he should become a Gator.

"He told me that he talked to Coach Carr and Coach Soup and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan," Stonum recalled.

"I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out?  I confronted them about it.  I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it, and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine.  I believed them.  Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled."

Edit: Sorry about the format.

What the hell is with his

What the hell is with his round about way of starting and trying to gain sympathy.  Talking about the other emails they get and what has happened to the other players he has had.

Sly, scummy, trying to keep that image up and not address the issue at hand.

The vindication that comes from this story feels so great.  Hopefully the NCAA follows up.

I wouldn't get too excited about Gant

I went to Southview back in the day and am from sylvania and Tressel and co definitely got in on Gant much earlier than we did and everything I have heard about him has him favoring OSU.  If they want him they likely will get him.  But who knows, maybe the new staff can work some magic.  Still have some major catching up to do though.

Richard Mann from the Psych Department

Dr. Mann is literally a legend around Ann Arbor and has been there since the 60's and 70's.  He had a huge influence on my life and is very personable.

He correlates psychology with the theories of quantum physics in a very down to earth manner that shows the day-to-day impact it can have.

Highly recommend him.

Yes he was good

Seconded. Keeps you interested.

Staying could actually help his Pro prospects

I don't want to say I think Denard will be a great NFL QB, but unlike many I haven't given up on that idea.  Denard was just a Sophomore this year and is an extremely hard worker.  Mike Vick is only 6'0" so its not completely out of the realm of possibility if Denard bulks up a bit and gets tutelage of a QB coach like Loeffler if Hoke is able to bring someone like that on board.

Again, it's unlikely maybe that Denard could be an NFL QB but I don't think it is completely impossible yet.

Misinterpreted

Sorry about that. I misread your comment.

How was that an assumption?

Up to this point I haven't heard Hoke say he thinks Denard can be a QB.  The fact that he came out and said Denard is a QB and he is willing to adapt his scheme goes a long way to Denard choosing to stay here.

I agree but don't forget the differences

I agree that things like having the banner depict Brady Hoke and doom are in poor taste, don't show any support, and is a little irrational.

But the situation now versus when Rodriguez was here is completely different.  Since day one the media depicted RichRod as the devil incarnate and Brian was rightfully trying to bring us back to reality instead of bashing RichRod because it was the thing to do.  This was an outsider coming into Michigan and he needed all the support he could get in order to succeed.

With Hoke, the media is already painting him as the darling of Ann Arbor and gushing about the hire.  Brian, again is trying to bring some perspective to it and remind us that just because he's a Michigan Man it does seem we are just trying to go back to exactly what we were trying to get away from at the end of the Carr era.

I agree that maybe he's been a little irrationally too negative, though.  I support Hoke and think he will do well, but I fully understand Brian's concern that we are going to go back to being a perpetual 9-3 team that never quite breaks through.

A reason im excited for Hoke

Yes he did this at SDSU, but the lst time they went to a bowl was 1998! 12 years ago.  In the 7 years before he got there they were always between 3 and 5 wins and won just 2 games the year before he got there. To get them to 9-4 with a bowl win in just two years is nothing short of remarkable especially when competing with the likes of Missouri and TCU.

That program was worse than horrendous until he got there.

Ignore

Edit: Ignore.  Absent minded didn't read through...actually pretty funny

Thank you

Also, need we remember the Wisconsin game itself from 2007 where we were manhandled and looked like we weren't even giving effort.

Ron English=GERG

GERG had his one good college year at Texas where he inherited a boat load of talent and his job was to not screw it up.

Ron English had his one good year at Michigan where he inherited a boat load of talent and his job was to not screw it up.

Totally Disagree about Joe Schad

Totally and utterly disagree about Joe Schad being an ethically solid reporter...but that's for another day...

No, Siller Might be Back

Actually, Henry is more hurt than Siller right now and they've been warming up Justin Siller's arm the last few weeks he just wasn't able to run.

Coaches say that they'll watch him run this week and if he can he'll be good to go.....

yikes.

Unbelievable?

No, with AMSHG it would have been unbelievable to not have our best remaining corner go down at some point in the season.

Yeah what kind of a fan

Yeah what kind of a fan dreams about how their great offense could be even better and wants to share his thoughts with other diehard Michigan fans.

We shouldn't talk about anything the coaches won't listen to.

/s

The OP was not saying our offense is bad

The OP was just saying that we have been a bit predictable the last couple weeks which I think is a fair point.  He was also saying that in order to make our offense even MORE dynamic than it already is throwing some new things in there might make us even tougher to stop.

I love our offense and think it is great.  But I also agree with the OP that we can be even tougher to stop by throwing some new things in there like the midline and some motion.

Chill, dude.

That's What I Love to Hear

I was standing in section 21 the whole game too. Thankfully the Michigan fans all around me understood and did not complain once.

I agree if you object to fans standing to support the team don't waste your money on a ticket.  If you would rather sit down you will enjoy it much more on the couch.

I'll be just like you when I'm 60.

Go Blue!

I just hope we keep it up

Because you know a loss or two and they'll all be back to overreacting about how we will fall apart in the big ten

Well Kelvin Grady

Grady said Denard at 25% is faster than most.  I'll take 75% Dilithium as long as he stays healthy throughout the game.

Shaw and Fitz were day-to-day

Shaw and Fitz were day-to-day throughout the week and I guess they would rather keep them out and let them fully heal by the State game, hopefully.

I'm pretty sure he is

I think he just has him there to make Indiana prepare for Devin and Tate too.

I agree but

I agree that its good someone is calling them out on this but personally I think this article is pretty poor journalism.  The headline implies the majority of players interviewed are bitter, but they only talk about one being bitter while the other two said they were not forced to take the medical scholarship and are now ok with it.

While I do wish someone calls Alabama and other oversigning schools out on this, I do not want it to happen via irresponsible journalism which I think this kind of is.  The headline is just misleading when 2/3 of the players interviewed in the article are not at all "bitter."

Let's Go Blue!

Let's Go Blue!!!!!

He Had Knee Surgery Last Year

He had knee surgery after an injury in one of their last games.  But I guess he's recovered enough to play.  Weird that they put him as a 259 pound linebacker after recovering from surgery.

Vincent Smith

Smith was actually great at picking up blitzes last year for a freshman.  Yes he is tiny as hell, but the coaches always praised his ability to block from the position last year.

It will still be rare to play back to back

We will find all of this out soon, but even if they are in opposite divisions and play the last game of the regular season it still should be meaningful.  Winning the division is not going to be easy because you have to be at least two of Wisco, Iowa, Nebraska, and Penn State to run the table in your division.  Secondly, I'm guessing that they are going to count overall conference records as opposed to simply divisional records to see who makes it to the championship game.

Therefore, lets say we are 7-0 (or 8-0) in the conference and have our division clinched going into The Game and OSU is 6-1 (or 7-1) and needs to win to get in.  We have a chance to send them home early and thereby not play them a second time. If it was the other way around too I think both teams will fight because 1. you get to stop the hated rival from making the championship and 2. You then don't have to play them a second week in a row.   I feel it will be very rare that both of us will go into the game unbeaten or with the division clinched. Maybe once in 10-20 years. And when that happens, likely both or one team has a chance at the NC and therefore nobody will want to throw that game.

I would prefer like everyone else, that we stay in the same division and the winner goes to the conference championship.  But since it seems we will be in the same division, I see no problem in playing the last game of the regular season because very rarely will it not carry meaning for at least one team.  And if you can prevent the other team from going to the championship I have a feeling you will play your ass off.

In the Presser In the Presser Rich Rod said that "Pat White in his Redshirt Freshman year (2nd year) was right about where Denard is right now"...Rich Rod said this with a big smile at first and then took a couple steps back with his praise, but it seems Rich Rod is really liking the direction Denard is going in.
You're right He was talking about his visit to the Columbus and the buckeyes on that quote. As much as that stinks it makes a little more sense based on our linebacker play the last few years.
I'll be gone but still have hope I always was and always will be a diehard for Michigan. My four years at the school did not go as I had hoped especially after '06. But Rodriguez showed me he gets the rivalry today. He saved up a bunch of stuff and take away Forcier's dumb mistakes and Michigan played well enough to beat a good Ohio State team. As for Forcier I know he's a freshman and he did alot of good things today. But talk is cheap and I'm sick of him going to the media after things like this. That is not leadership that is trying to be a celebrity. How about stepping up to your teammates and telling them that speech and allowing them to spread the word. By going straight to media with that crap it's obvious he is trying to boost his image. I want Gardner to get here as soon as possible to give Tate all the competition he can handle next year. The D will improve with a staff that stays relatively the same and the offense is only going up. But the QB play needs to improve and yes Tate's a freshman but he has to get his ego in check.
