I remember I went to to a game in high school where my friend (who is 6-5) was playing against Vignier. My friend goes up for a short jumper, Vignier comes from across the lane and swats into like the 5th row of the high school gym. Good times.
As for me, probably a pickup game at the CCRB against people I didn't recognize, but my athleticism generally banished me to Court 3 (where I could actually hold my own against the scrubs).

I think this was a great accomplishment for all Seths out there...since that includes me, I will take partial credit whenever I can. Even if I had absolutely nothing to do with it and lack the ability to even write something resembling it.

I am excited because Rutgers, Syracuse, and Maryland are all reasonable driving distance from me, so I could potentially be looking at four live Michigan games a year (those three plus my annual pilgrimage to Ann Arbor). So, that's the reason for my excitement. From a big picture standpoint, I'm with you.

Call me crazy, I actually love every Holtz segment on ESPN. I love that I have to spend 15 minutes first figuring out what he said, and then another 15 minutes figuring out what the hell it means. Then a half hour later, I finally get to laughing at it.
I think my favorite was when he said ND would beat USC because they believed they could win. After all, that's as good a reason as any, right?

2006 OSU game is the obvious choice, but since I haven't seen it yet, I will go with the 1999 game against Illinois, where we blew something like a 27-7 lead, and lost 35-29, a week after losing to State. Just a painful painful loss on a team that ended up finishing #6 in the BCS with a win over Alabama in the Orange Bowl. While I doubt we would have jumped Va Tech for the title game, our strength of schedule was outstanding that year (MSU, Wisconsin, and Penn State all finished in the top 10 of the BCS), and potentially could have put a 1-loss Michigan team in the title game against FSU.

I have definitely heard this story before. We probably know some of the same people. Either that, or he yelled that at a lot of girls and a lot of girls answered him that way. I'm guessing it's the latter.
Not my story, but my buddy claims he had a Spanish class with Victor Hobson and Cato June. One day the teacher was calling on Hobson, and June apparently says "Senora [pronounced with a hard n]. Vic ain't programmed to speak." Then I guess the teacher called on someone else.
I always cracked up at that story.

Yeah, that one is a no-brainer for me. My brother was a senior and I had just received my acceptance letter about two weeks before the Rose Bowl. My dad getting handed two free tickets about 15 minutes before kickoff for him and my mom. That was an amazing day.

What about Global GUTS? Would you incorporate elements of that? Maybe drape yourself with a flag for a victory lap when you win?

Do intramural sports count?
If so, I am totally a former Michigan athlete.

Brian, you have had a lot of great posts over the years. There was a diary about your best posts of all time. I think this has to take its place among the list of legendary posts. It may lack the eloquence of other posts, but it just sums up everything I, and probably many others, just spent the last 3 hours saying (in between shots and beers, and yes, even glasses of champagne): Michigan basketball is relevant again.

Henson threw about 50 passes his freshman year (mostly in garbage time), so I'm not sure that's how we should be judging him.

Hungry Howie's tastes like ass, and Dominos doesn't? I know Dominos started in Michigan and all, but that doesn't make it good.

Wait, are you saying that taking it to a mechanic is having no idea of how to perform routine car maintenance? Oh well, I guess I'm in your boat then.

Actually not at all, but it got the crowd temporarily fired up, what with his "Go forth boldly and beat the Buckeyes" shtick. Then Johnny Sears gave up about 8 touchdowns and the game became close again.

2006 vs. Ball State can't be on this list, if only because it featured Patrick Stewart at halftime. That elevates an otherwise awful game out of the "worst" category.
|6 years 27 weeks ago||Good topic||
Best that I can think of:
1) 1999 vs. Notre Dame: We won 26-22, first game of the season. I think Notre Dame ended the game on our 25 yard line or somewhere near there.
2) 2002 vs. Penn State: 27-24 Overtime win. First OT game at Michigan, I believe.
3) 2003 vs. Notre Dame: 38-0, largely on the list because we were standing next to two Notre Dame guys that were talking so much crap before the game and even more so after ND recovered a fumble on the first offensive possession.
Best Michigan games I've been to though have not been in Ann Arbor: 1998 (1997 season) Rose Bowl and 2000 (1999 season) Orange Bowl.
Worst that I can think of:
1) 1999 vs. Illinois: Lost 35-29, blew a HUGE lead. Win that game, and there's a distinct possibility we play for a title in '99.
2) 2001 vs. OSU: Ugh. I still don't even want to talk about it.
3) 2005 vs. OSU: See #2.

Message board retirement posts are the best. Don't tell me you're not getting a little choked up that someone who you've only had indirect contact with will never have indirect contact with you again. Brings a tear to my eye, and I hardly ever post on the board.

What happened in 1999? I was at that game, and the only problem we had with the fans was that some guy in the row ahead of us was farting the whole game. It was awful. Other than that, they left my buddies and I alone.
