Franklins in Hyattsville is…

Franklins in Hyattsville is a good choice. If your kids are younger, they'll love the adjoining toy store. Still on Route 1 but a little closer to DC in Mount Rainier is Pennyroyal Station. Great comfort food.

Raoul Wallenberg Place... On my daily DC bike commute by the Holocaust Museum. Thanks for adding meaning to my ride.
You do what to Huckabees? When the I ❤ (insert something loveable) stickers were everywhere, I found a package of heart-size stickers at a novelty shop that had a picture of a screw so you could, um, repurpose those bumper stickers. Apologies to the owner of the minivan who loved the Grandville High School marching band, the person who favored the Michigan State Sheriff's Department, and the poodle owner who I'm sure was only guilty of owning a poodle.
Nonsense This diary is clearly dytarious.
You're whey outa line.
Did someone... ...say my name?
Dear Diary references The Dream Academy Only here.
Harbaugh Man When he's under water does Harbaugh get wet? Or does the water get Harbaugh instead?
May merit its own thread but May merit its own thread but since we're toasting the class, JR Jr is now listed at 6-6 285 and "evil"... http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2014/08/01/top-10-high-school-football…
^^This is far more likely^^

Ownership won't support a commish from outside their ranks or the central executive conclave. Fay Vincent titled his autobiography "The Last Commisioner" and he was right.

Good observation, Moleskyn:

this is almost certainly about grip.  The spitter moves like a knuckleball because of its lack of spin and both are notoriously difficult to control. If Valverde's been secretly mastering the spitter, that would be a monumental waste of time.

BTW, a reporter once asked Gaylord Perry's 5 year old daughter if he threw a grease ball.  She replied on cue, "it's a hard slider."

FSU stopped offering classes in 2010...

Seconded:

And using the plural "Alabama Fans" in the header is also questionable.

People

Thank you, Tom...

...and best of luck.

Are you ready, boots?

Start walkin...

Seconded...

"Sparty" is essentially code here for "those silly couch burners up the way."  All in good fun, all in for sandbox exchanges.  To connect "Sparty" and this sort of thing isn't right here.  Leave this for regional news and keep it off the board.  Poor form.

What Makes Mgoblog Special...

So Brian is roiling in emotion right now.  Good, I wouldn't have it any other way.  The man who hurls empty water bottles at disagreeable codgers also puts that passion into a blog that we would prefer to not live without.  Item:  The leopard is spotted.  Welcome to Mgoblog, nothing to see there.  But Brian's also talking meta right now and it's depressing that so many Mgoblog posters are revealing their ignorance of that.  Meta:  what's happened in the last couple weeks revealed stories, some of them rather unpleasant.  In addition to venting, Brian is talking about those stories right now and while it's understandable to want/need to feel AWESOME and ONLY awesome about a charasmatic new coach, understand also that those stories are insightful, important and reflective of the spirit that is Mgoblog.  It's my nature to lurk; I'm rarely moved to post.  But the added value of Mgoblog has always been thoughtful commentary from a relatively sophisticated fan-base and it's terribly lacking in this thread and beyond.  A victim of its success?  Maybe.  But if you are impatient with those qualities that make Mgoblog special then I invite you to lurk silently as well.

Ummm...

...do the Shrutes live near the Schrutes?

Otters...

...we're talking about otters.

And I just...

...saved money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

Fat Elvis II

Michigan needs another T.P. on the line cultivating a swinging set of 'burns.

Where were you?

Where were you? Right field bullpen area was ear-ringing loud. Kept asking myself, "is this really a Nats crowd?" Contrast w/ opening day when Phans turned it into their home opener and you can't help but feel warm all over.

Curve he snapped on Milledge in 1st for strike two?  Two for flinching, Lastings.

Kid's change has unusual sink.  The sound of that pitch is "whiff."

$10 SRO ticket was FAR below the entertainment value.

Ernie Harwell Field at Comerica Park

Ernie Harwell made the call on countless tape measure blasts I hit off Nolan Ryan.  Looong gone over the hedge and into the Shaws' backyard.  Thanks, Ernie.

Here's the inevitable (and very worthy) Facebook cause...

In Ernie Harwell's autobiography... ...from 1985 (Tuned to Baseball) he confesses his most embarrassing on-air moment. An Angels runner stealing home eluded, from the ump's perspective, Freehan's tag and was called safe. Bill begged to differ. As Ernie called it: "Freehan's at the plate beating his meat! Uh...beating his mitt!" Never been able to look at Freehan the same way after reading that.
Uhh... ..."Gayturds"? "No homo"? How old are you?
As a DC resident for a decade+... ...I can vouch that regional sentiments usually trump state lines here and that VT is regarded as a home school. [Ralph Friedgen mutters "amen" as Paterno and Beamer knowingly chuckle] But his comment could suggest that location is what led him to his final two or that location is the determining factor in his ultimate choice. Pulling for the former.
On The Hill... ...a few of us belly up and watch 12:00 games at the Pour House (formerly Politiki). Not mentioned on the club's site.
Muskegon Heights... has great potential and for a man like Snead coming from The Muck, I can understand why working with kids at the Heights would be more personally rewarding than maintaining Holland Christian. Regarding Sam's dozen, and fwiw, Scout lists Zettel's M interest level as high.
I knew Tate was competitive... ...but did he have to go all Tanya Harding on them?
Facebook/MySpace and NCAA Guidelines This is a 10/08 article from the Washington Post regarding social networking sites and NCAA recruiting (don't think it was posted here previously). Gray area is best illustrated in how Penn State tried to self-police... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/15/AR20081…

Excuse me, Mr. WideOut, is that Dior you're wearing?

More subtext:  2010 Technician Dior Mathis is rumored to be considering an early pledge to that Miami.

Gordon's summer camp nickname:  "Prison Abs".  Love that.
