“On the offense last year, they had great spacing. That’s what I remember. Great spacing, great shooters, like Nik Stauskas, who’s not there right now. But they always have someone to fill the roles. They have a cutting offense, kind of hard to guard.”

He was absolutely jamming today. I feel like he genuinely appreciates the opportunity to just dance around and return kicks in front of 100k+, and he shows it. I love it.

Bingo. I don't see how this is so hard to get from our perspective. Attacking part of the team means attacking the entire team. Isn't that how you would want a team to operate?
And as I said before, the abuse isn't just directed towards the coaches, a lot of it is directed towards the players too believe it or not. When you're getting personally attacked by students and alumni and then someone else goes on to attack your coach, it's much more likely that you take it personally as well.

Players see the coaches as a part of the team, and when you attack the coaches the players feel attacked as well. A lot of what I've heard from people close to the team right now supports this - they feel attacked. Not to mention that a lot of the time the players are the ones who are the targets of abuse, its happened a lot this year from alumni and even some current students.
Fact is, yes they cannot separate attacks on the coaches from attacks on them, but why should they? They're a team! If you can't get that it's your own fault, not theirs.

I'm in the "given up" camp. I still know way more than I should about the team, the game of football, etc, I just don't care as much when we lose. I even left a couple of games early this year.
Does this make me less of a fan? Maybe. I can't say I worry about that too much. Quite frankly I'd rather be less of a fan and maintain a healthy mental state than the alternative.

If I was in the NBA and got a packet full of 100's I'd snapchat all my friends for sure, we'd all think it's hilarious. I don't think this is a big deal at all.

Great event! I remember talking to one of the guys who organized this, great dude. Still waiting on those tickets, Cameron.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Prove it. I see this comment||
I see this comment a lot, but the fact of the matter is that winning teams still have breakdowns in communication all the time, especially with regards to their medical staffs. Please explain how coaching ability and communication with the sideline neurologist are 100% correlated. I'm not saying there's absolutely no connection, and it's certainly easy at this point to point to larger institutional dysfunction given both factors (this incident and being 2-3), but don't act like one can only happen with the other.

Call it what you want to call it, but this sort of thing happens all the time all over the place and people only care now because we (A) are losing, and (B) have a fan base big enough to make a national stink about it. Hell, we've had stuff like this happen at Michigan before and it hasn't been this big a deal. Remember when we had a player sexually assault a girl? And had another player help him? And had the AD try to cover it up? Nobody gave a shit because we were in the middle of a BCS run. You tell me what the difference is, because this sure as hell isn't a more serious offense. That's what Herbstreit is referring to.

University does a lot more than hire and fire AD's. Brian is a fantastic sports blogger but I don't want him anywhere near the university in such a capacity.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Seriously. If anything,||
Seriously. If anything, boycotting Maryland over Penn State because Penn State is a really cool environment against a good team at night with all of this cool other stuff surrounding the game means Brandon wins. Penn State at night is perhaps the most "Brandon-ized" game on the schedule. Waiting for a worse game is ridiculous.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I said previously that I have||
I said previously that I have a friend on the athletic training staff (a student) who insisted that there was no concussion, and that was the truth. He was still saying this as late as yesterday. If anything, the fact that they can't get their full training staff on the same page about an injury like this reflects even more poorly.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I was previously on the "it's||
I was previously on the "it's not that big a deal, it was only one play" side of things, but if anything the absolute monstrosity that is our AD's handling of this situation has made me even more upset. Lying, miscommunication within the organization, patronizing fans... Brandon needs to be fired within the week.

Nor would I hire any of the dozens of counterexamples where a DII coach is pulled up to coach a DI school and fails.
|3 weeks 8 hours ago||One play where he handed the||
One play where he handed the ball off. I'm with you. There are a lot of different possible narratives for this story and the only reason this one has taken hold is because we are losing a lot of games. The only reason it is a national story is that people are pissed enough about us losing games that it will sell nationally.
Morris should have come out of the game earlier, obviously. Coaches made a mistake, obviously. It's probably worth a couple of mgoblog threads and hand wringing. Nothing more. I mean, I remember when ND played Clausen (I think) after he had a cuncussion and could only see out of one eye at halftime - that didn't even make it this big, and that was worse on pretty much every level.
|3 weeks 8 hours ago||I'm sure he's a great coach||
I'm sure he's a great coach for his current situation, but being HC of a DIII school and being HC of a premier DI school are very very different jobs. I just get the feeling that he will not have the track record to demand the respect of the players here, nor the experience around big ego's to keep them in check. I think it's pretty clear that our problems go far beyond X's and O's, and if we want to fix them I think we'll need a guy who's more than just an offensive innovator, we're going to need a big name, hardcore leader. If not Harbaugh, at least someone with similar experience on a DI level.

Agree with the other posters. Choosing Maryland to boycott is half-assed and quite frankly ridiculous. If you're really fed up, the boycott starts now.

My thought exactly. People don't seem to realize that Shane was only put in for one play, on which everybody knew he was only going to go in, hand the ball off, and come back to the sideline. There was no risk of reinjury.

I don't even know how to read this stat. This is really why I'm so confused that we're so bad on offense - it doesn't ever seem like we can't get off the ground, but every drive finds some way to fall apart before we put points up. Bizzare.

Cosign. I hate to say it, but my passion for this team has faded over the past few years. I no longer get upset when we lose. The only thing that's left is a deep sadness that these players and coaches, who I so dearly want to succeed, are failing. They work so hard, and care so much, only to fall short. It sucks.
