Agreed on your second point. Harbaugh made some point in his press conference about how De'Veon had some injury that he would need to "play through" or something like that - it's nice to see that a lot of that is talk, and that he's willing to sit players when it helps the team. Not that most coaches wouldn't, I suppose.

It made mgoblog unusable last night for me. This morning has been less of an issue (I haven't noticed it at all).

A game manager who turns the ball over twice a game isn't much of a game manager. Also, I don't think asking him to hit any of the 2-3 wide open deep guys he gets a game is that high of a bar to clear. If he could even threaten to do that it would open up this offense so much.
All that having been said, I don't know if thin ice is the right way to put it. If Shane was even close to being better we would have seen something from him by now.

For all the (deserved) love the defensive staff is getting, how about some props for this guy? People were very skeptical when he was hired, but our TEs have made massive improvements pretty much across the board.

Smith. Watching him break into the open field was incredible and then him just beating up on a defender for a solid 20 yards was even better. The crowd went 100% nuts.

Or - hear me out here - Harbaugh and co. don't give a shit about being ranked in the top anything and are going to simply stay focused on improving and winning games because that's what well-coached teams do.

My understanding is that all-conference offensive line honors, especially in the coaches poll, tend to reflect upperclassmen with decent reputations. I think if Harbaugh get's our running game to solidly good through B1G play, we'll be rewarded with a first or at least second-team all B1G OL, probably Glasgow.

WAY too many favorite moments to say them all. The run against ND was awesome - "He's at the 50! And they'll never catch him!" I was also at UTL, so that was incredible. Him coming out to the field an hour after the game, when the stadium was still packed with euphoric fans, was incredible. All of his smiles in press conferences, etc were great. His first run was quite the moment, especially because I had looked away from the play, assuming it had already ended (I didn't have the best view), only to hear a great cheer and realize he had scored. The win against OSU was wonderful. I mean, so many....
He was really the last athlete I idolized. He played for us while I was in high school mostly, and by the time I got to college it sort of sunk in that athletes were just students like me - not larger than life figures. But for his first couple of years with us under Rich Rod, he was so much more than that. My avatar is actually something I made in Minecraft when I was 15 or so, a big hiesman statue with "16" on it, because I was such a big fan. My last memory was the summer after my freshman year (he had just graduated), when I went to the M Den on State and got my freshman year pregame shoes signed by Denard and Jordan Kovacs. Already I was 19 and it felt a lot different from when I would get signatures as a kid, but I felt that at the very least I owed it to my younger self to get that dude's signature. He was, and always will be, my favorite wolverine.

On the swing pass, I thought live that was on Drake Johnson. If my memory serves, it was not close to Rudock's first read, and he let go of the ball very quickly, throwing it to where Johnson should have been. I'd imagine that's what he was coached to do on those passes. Drake on the other hand saw nothing but green field ahead of him and started jogging forward, abandoning his route. Thus the ball thrown behind him.
My $.02 anyway. I have yet to see it on film.

First drives are often completely scripted before the game. That's one of many reasons why they are often not indicative of overall performance.

Harbaugh was definitely sending them in, but that doesn't mean he was calling them. Fisch (and I would assume drevno too) is in the press box most likely. Fisch/Drevno could be calling plays on the headset, with Harbaugh sending them in.

Him "focusing on a few players positively and negatively" can be said about literally anyone, no? Even the coaches. That's what opinions are. It doesn't make him wrong (or right, either).

|4 weeks 1 day ago||Yeah, that was a straight up||
Yeah, that was a straight up awful decision. I do agree with the overall sentiment however, that Rudock made some great passes along with a couple awful ones. If the bad ones are an aberration, or if he improves on those with time, he certainly has the potential to be a very good QB this year.

I remember him in one play, a screen or something similar where his assignment was to go out and block one dude in particular. He executed. I mean, may as well have him in for a play like that if he's practiced it, but I don't think it means he's going to see much more time in the long run.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||I think the RBs vision on||
I think the RBs vision on zone runs would have looked a lot better yesterday if we had been practicing zone all camp. Instead, we've been trying to become a man team, so not a lot of coaching time has been devoted to zone. On man runs the problem was never vision, but lack of push. On zone runs, it was the opposite.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||At one point (end of the||
At one point (end of the first half?) he said Michigan should "just let Utah get the first down", as if it wouldn't matter that we would let them into field goal position with a new set of downs at the end of the half. He definitely said some stupid stuff mixed in with the insight.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||It's always a good feeling||
It's always a good feeling when Brian echoes my sentiments exactly after a game, makes me think I'm finally getting the hang of this smart football thing hah.
It hurt to see us try to run power over and over again with no push, only to switch back to inside zone late with some success (success mitigated by Smith's poor vision) - it was eerily 2014. On the 3rd and 3 where they ran off tackle to the left, I'd actually give Kalis a pass. It looked like that run was drawn up to go outside the tackle (where there was a hole - I thought Utah overplayed between the tackles on that play), but Smith just decided to pound it into the line as usual. I wouldn't mind giving Isaac extended time in the next few games. Assuming he has better vision, that is. He's still a decently powerful runner, and is a threat to catch out of the back field, as well as take runs to the house.
Also, while I liked the announcing crew, FS1 never really bothered with replays, which made things very hard to judge live.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Defense looked good as||
Defense looked good as expected, though I would love to see some real turnovers. Peppers looked like a beast and it's only a matter of time until he makes a highlight play. WRs were a pleasant surprise.
And hey, how about this: I still trust our coaches to turn this into a good team. I was able to watch that game without a constant sense of dread, which is a welcome change. I even remained happy after the game! That's just me practicing a more healthy way to be a fan, after the last few years nearly drove me to a psychotic break.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||We'll see in the UFR, but||
We'll see in the UFR, but that play looked like it was meant to go outside the tackle (which was a wide open running lane, with two pulling blockers) and Smith just punched it up into a wall instead of following Kalis. Either that, or Kalis missed his read, but given how well the play looked like it could have worked if not for Smith messing up a read, I'm inclined to blame him.

I'm ok with a loss. I expected one, to be honest. Utah is a good team.
But what's brutal is, that felt EXCACTLY like last year. Same strengths, same weaknesses, to a T. That's what made this game so bad.

I think that would be cool as well, but we would need some sort of mgopoint/account verification (to avoid spamming and trolls) and some sort of community enforcement system (since mods won't be able to monitor such a chatroom 24/7). I like the general idea of a chatroom though!
