Well...

I think you are half right.  Those things you listed are certaintly important to the people that go to the games, attend the school, and perhaps even those on the field either currently or perspectively.

I would even go so far as to say this list was probably right up near the top of reasons behind starting a Football team back in the late 1800's.

Under Jim Delaney and our very own Domino's Pizza Boy Athletic Director however, this team exists very much to make money.  There is no tradition, there is no community building - just new "wow factor" halftime shows and military fly-overs while the team gets drubbed 30-14 against a mediocre at best Minnesota team.

I think more than anything, that truth has become more and more evident every single year Brandon has been the AD.

If any of the things on your list are being pushed, it's in the interest of selling tickets, concessions, merchandise, and seat licenses.

Sad truth.

The Reason Brandon Is Still Here

But three-term Republican Andrea Fischer Newman argued, "You've got to look at the whole athletic department. You've got to look at the addition of sports, you've got to look at the addition of facilities. You've got to look at what we've done with women's sports. You've got to look at the money that's been raised, you've got to look at the budget. There's a lot of good things being done on campus right now in athletics"

Not much talk about tradition, or The Team, The Team, The Team there eh?  Sounds more like The Money, The Money, The Money.

No reason for concern at all... /sigh

Football Team I'll say this much and then leave it alone: Those of you who think there is a difference between College and Pro Sports, you are a bit dillusional. They are both built on a business model intended to create a stream of revenue. Under Jim Delaney the B1G schools are interested in an ocean of money as a stream just wasnt good enough. Sure there are no checks going to the players, but that isn't the point. To the alum; if you think you have a more profound connection to the football team because you have a degree from the school than the average Joe Customer paying at the gate for admission, I say good for you. But don't think the football team has mutual feelings about you. Alums may get first crack at tickets, but if you decline they'll find somebody to get paid from and without discrimination. I've been a fan of the program for almost 40 years and never attended a single class at Michigan. And I've never been told my money is no good at the ticket office. Recall that the football team pays for every other team the school has. Basketball might break even, but otherwise they are all funded from football. It's 100% about money for them.
One Problem with Miles

I think everybody is right on point with the talk that Les Miles would be a good fit here, would get the team back to a respectable and competitive level, and while not causing a dropoff in recruiting that most coaching changes bring.

There's one problem though:

Les Miles is 100% not going to come to Michigan while Dave Brandon is the AD.  It won't happen.

Brandon is a control freak and a micro-manager.  Why do you think we have Brady Hoke?  How many other schools in the country have their AD give pressers about the Football team on as regular a basis as Brandon does?  None.

Hoke is a yes-man.  That's why he was an easy hire for Brandon.  He'll do what he's told, he'll say what he's told to say.  Plus most of the administrative decisions with the program are deferred up to Brandon and that's just how he likes it.

Unfortunately, most top tier coaches would tell Brandon to go pound sand if he proposed that type of working arrangement.  Then Brandon flies back here from Baton Rouge and says things like "We can't afford Les Miles."

It's total B.S.

Harbaugh - same thing.  Jim and John would both want to be able to control their own program.  Won't happen while Brandon is the AD.

Want a better coach?  Fire the AD, and hire somebody who wants to be an AD - not the CEO of the Football Team...

Go Blue!

Beat State!!

And HOW is Dave Brandon still employed here?

Awesome job to all

I wanted to make sure I stopped in here and pesonally awarded kudos to everybody involved in making the rally happen.

I am one of many who also called for the head of Brady Hoke, Doug Nussmeier, and Dave Brandon when I got up this morning and read the sneaky 1am apology for the mis-management of Shane Morris.

Shame on this team's administration for allowing that to happen, and shame on Dave Brandon for thinking of greed, and everything else before the tradition that we all love.

Also congrats on getting the ESPN mention, I saw that earlier and thought to myself - "Now it's real..."

Again, great job!
