I wore jeans and my maize t-shirt. I was freezing to death by the end of the game in the student section. My roommate and I weathered the storm and by the end we were hugging other students in the stands. This game and when Henne hit Manningham on the slant to beat PSU were two of the best experiences I've had at the big house.
If we consistently try to run through the teeth of the State defense, we're not going to score a TD. Reading what Hoke said and this doesn't give me the warm fuzzies about our game plan. Hopefully I'm wrong
Hoke continuously takes responsibility for things that fail on this team. Now it doesn't seem he's fixing any of them, but I digress. Do you listen to his press conferences when they lose? He ALWAYS lays the blame on himself. So, maybe this one time it wasn't his fault. As much as everyone would like to armchair this one, a situation is always different when you're in it.
I'm willing to give Hoke the benefit of the doubt on this one. Maybe in his mind Shane is trotting out there with an ankle injury to hand a ball off and there's no way he's getting touched (which is true).
Brian, it's funny you put an RR quote about Denard and concussions as if he's better than Hoke. I urge you to go back and check out Arizona's games. It escapes me which game, but I distinctly remember an Arizon's QB taking head shots, then running to the sidelines to puke in front of RR. He sent him right back out there since they were driving down the field. A clear sign of concussion was overlooked there, but you didn't see anybody talking about that one.
It's amazing how many people were calling for Morris to play and now since Brian says Gardner should have started, everyone agrees. What had Gardner shown this season that suggests he should NOT have been benched for a game to give Morris a shot? Of course, Shane was ultimately not ready, but to continue playing someone who clearly is rattled and not getting it done is insanity.
However, I was impressed with the way the other youngster (RS Fr and True Fr) opened some run lanes and yes, PASS protected for Gardner. Don't care if it's IU...we couldn't keep UConn or Akron out, as others have noted.
Al was trying everything he could think of to get the offense going. Just as you pointed out, he tried screens and slants; these should have been easy completions. I recall one slant where he threw the ball about 5 yards behind Gallon?

I played GPWSLL from age 9-12 so I can give you some background:
The league is setup with 8-10 teams in the "Major League" division and all these kids play with their respective teams against the other 8-10 teams. At the end of the season (they play a "world series" post-season), the coaches will get together and vote for the 11-12 year old kids they think are the best for the tournament team. Then, this team practices for a few weeks before they start playing other teams from their district (Grosse Pointe Park, Harper Woods, etc). When I was involved, the Farms and the Park were powerhouses with kids like the Adam Abrahams and Chris Getzs of the world.
Fun stuff to see my old stomping grounds make it this far.
A year after I graduated, we drove my buddy from AA to Chicago for his bachelor party. We stayed in some hotel where there happened to be some ladies in the room next door. As it turns out, there were two mothers and two daughters.
Obviously, before we hit the town, there were a few daddy pops consumed, as well as a log of chew. For whatever reason, Sharon (one of the mom's from the room next door) decided she was going out with us. We hit a few bars, got shot down by some chicks and headed home in the cab where one of my friends had Sharon on his lap. Come to find out when we got home, Sharon was getting "pleasured" in the cab by my friend. Pretty sure Sharon was married...
She ended up leaving us all a handwritten note when she left that thanked us all for a great time, which was nice, I suppose.
EDIT: The note said it was also her birthday weekend. Even better.
I know the housing market out there is insane. Hell, that's the main reason I moved away! But chances are, it will work out for the best, whatever the outcome.
I have a receeding hairline and I go to the gym. I also have been at it for 7+ years (competitive powerlifting) and have been asked on multiple occasions if I'm on sauce. My point is that people who have never walked the walk, so to speak, just assume that a "jacked" physique is unattainable without roids. Point being, it's just ignorance and in some instances, complete laziness, to assume guys are using PEDs.
I'm not saying the NBA is clean. In fact, I'm sure it's not! But you walk a fine line just accusing dudes of using. Lebron has been a freak since high school, so was he using then too?
If you think Lebron has a freakish physique, you haven't been around the gym much. I know a number of clean guys who look more "freakish" than him. It's amazing how people assume things about which they (appear) to have limited knowledge.
As much as I want to rag on Penn State for this, it's not an uncommon practice in college football for players to be cleared when they shouldn't be. I'll leave it at, I know some people who work for a major university that has done this in the past.
