Contrary to what our brains are telling us, there’s no mystical force that imbues a winner with a streak of luck, nor is there a cosmic sense of justice that ensures that a loser’s luck will turn around. The universe doesn’t care one whit whether you’ve been winning or losing; each roll of the dice is just like every other.

This is the death of Michigan Exceptionalism. Any lingering feelings that Michigan was special or different from other colleges in regards to athletics has died under this AD. Despite his history and closeness to the program, Dave Brandon still sees his alma mater as a brand and runs it like a national pizza chain.
Not everything Dave Brandon has done has been bad and he most certainly receives a lot of criticism for fairly innocuous things, but he has fundametally changed the relationship between the AD and the students/fans for the worse.
Furthermore, Brandon and the B1G are some of the fiercest defenders of the "collegiate model" and "amateurism" which is infuriating due to their constant attempts to monetize and brand the shit out of everything. If you want to hide behind "the collegiate model", don't try to run your athletic department like you're the Dallas Cowboys.

He rejoined the US squad for the 2011 Gold Cup after a 2 year abscence and then he came back to the US and joined the Philadelphia Union from 2011-2013. He did well in that Gold Cup and was solid in his time with the Union. He left the Union and went to play for a team in Brazil that released him (Bahia) then he went to Blackpool in England and got cut from their team but continues to train with them.
He's still only 24, though some question whether or not his age is accurate, thinking he's older. If he's really 2 or 3 years older than his listed age, it may have contributed to the phenom hype, a 17 year old that says he's 14 seems much better than he really is.
That said, if he's really only 24, he'd be the 6th youngest guy on this US World Cup squad. He could still get his career back on track and be in his prime for the 2018 World Cup.

I expect a 4-4-2 of sorts. This is not necessarily the lineup I expect Klinsmann to pick, just the one I would like most

For those asking how the Pistons lost their pick and why Dumars is to blame, they traded their first round pick to Charlotte (top 8 protected) with Ben Gordon for Corey Magette. The Pistons had the 8th worst record, so they needed to have none of the teams below them jump into the lottery, bumping them down a slot (after top 3, order is set). Because Cleveland jumped Detroit, they slid to 9, meaning the pick is no longer protected and goes to Charlotte.

I think the NFL should lessen the penalty, because the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
I know people will raise the tired argument: He knew it was against the rules, so he deserves the harshest of punishments
I'm not saying that Gordon should get off easy or that his punishment should be lessened, but in the future, every failed test should be a 1 game suspension with a $50k fine.
It should still be against the rules, but not so extreme.
Otherwise we might as well make every violation a lifetime ban from the sport, because these guys "knowingly break the rules". Just because the rule-breaking is done with full knowledge of its against-the-ruledness doesn't mean the punishment is automatically fair/just

Yeah, my point is kind of contingent on believing that Manziel is a starter and you want him to look good, which whether or not we think he is, the Browns have decided that he is. Once you decide he's your starter, you have to put him in a position to succeed.
|32 weeks 5 days ago||Like I said, I loved the||
Like I said, I loved the trade when they made it, but I guess to me the difference is whether or not they start Manziel this year. If you start Manziel and he has no weapons, he's gonna look really bad. If you "redshirt" him for a year behind Hoyer, you can "tank" this year, have two high first rounders next year and get Gordon off of the suspension.

|32 weeks 5 days ago||If the Browns knew about this||
If the Browns knew about this yesterday, they're really dumb for not taking Watkins at 4. I loved the trade at the time with them getting a 1st rounder next year (from the Bills means it's probably top 16), but they really could have used the playmaker at WR

US competed in Copa America in '07 and sent a B squad (17 of 23 players had fewer than 15 caps), they lost all 3 games in the group stage.
USA 1 - 4 Argentina

The inability to easily have a FIFA regulation size field is a problem, the ManU Real game will be played on a non-regulation size field because it's a friendly. Building a platform to put a full size pitch on would be a pain and probably only worth it for a World Cup.
|34 weeks 1 day ago||I agree that's where he||
I agree that's where he should play in the long run, that's why I listed him there initially. But being able to play him at the 4 next year is better for the team, lessening the load that Wilson will have to bear.
|34 weeks 2 days ago||I'm not so worried about him||
I'm not so worried about him physically, but he's a true freshman center in the Big Ten, that's a little worrying. Also he played in a not particularly strong high school league and he didn't play AAU. He'll be good in the long run, but he could seriously struggle at times this year. He's never faced guys like the guys he'll see in the Big Ten this year. He could be physically ready and still struggle.
At least Donnal had the perk of practicing against McGary, Morgan, and Horford for a year while he a redshirted which is why I'm less worried about him.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that he won't leave early. Leaving after your Junior year is still considered leaving early. Also, it's fair to say that we didn't see a lot of what Walton could do this year. He was the 3rd or 4th option at best when he was on the floor and he was only a freshman. He was smart enough to play within himself and to not try to do too much. i expect a big jump from Walton and Irvin this year as they're both supremely talented and they both have a year of experience under their belt.
And of course the Beilein Sophomore Leap Certainty Principle

Also, adding the extra wing player let's Chatman move to stretch 4 instead of staying on the wing. This seems pretty important to me.
|34 weeks 2 days ago||Let's say the coaches banked||
Let's say the coaches banked scholarship offers, this is your roster:
1 - Walton / Spike
Not having the extra wing player would be fatal next year if you get injury/foul trouble. At least 1 guy was necessary to take. If anything you would've banked 1 scholarship by taking MAAR or Dawkins, but they really had to take 1 extra wing player.
|34 weeks 2 days ago||Should we have banked||
Should we have banked scholarships instead of taking Spike and Levert. Spike and Levert helped us get to the national title game and Levert could easily become a lottery pick. It's safe to say that the coaches made the right decision to take those guys instead of banking scholarships.
They deserve the benefit of the doubt at this point.
