4 years 47 weeks ago Great analysis!

Tom Osborne had only one worry about joining the Big Ten, and that was not being able to recruit Texas as well. Unfortunately, they really need to get a dynamite coach who can recruit and coach.

4 years 47 weeks ago Yep

Rutgers has a pretty decent chance at being good in the B1G. In terms of pure talent, they're better than, or at least close to, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern and Illinois. Very good recruiting in-state and closeby in New York and  Maryland, plus the B1G powers of Ohio and Michigan are a significant distance away.

Until now, the Big East was simply not an option for most top New Jersey recruits. Now they're in the B1G, and have the money to pay coaches and rennovate.

Hey, if South Carolina can do it with world beaters just next door, sure it's not impossible for Rutgers. I hate to say it, but if they had a coach like Dantoni who would lock down the borders, they would be pretty good.

4 years 48 weeks ago Well

I think we have to take more factors into comparison.

1) Part of the draw of going to a school in your conference are that there are away games to your home state. With Texas being such a large state, it probably matters less to a Texas recruit that ATM is in the SEC. In fact, with all the Texas schools in the B12, they are still very attractive.

Contrast that with New Jersey and Maryland, which are small. A game over there is probably within driving distance for most parents in those states, New York, and Northern Virginia, which is pretty nice.

2) Most of the SEC is already in prime recruiting territory. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana already pump out a huge number of blue chips, and neighbor other talent rich states like North Carolina and Virginia. Of course they'll target more Texas and Missouri recruits, but probably only the top tier guys, which doesn't put much of a dent in your numbers.

The B1G, however, has a lot less in-state talent. Basically, we need New Jersey and Maryland recruits more than the SEC needs Texas and Missouri recruits.

3) Why not include Texas A&M in your equation? Obviously they are part of the SEC. If more talent in Jersey and Maryland go to Rutgers and Maryland instead of another conference, that means a stronger B1G.

.

.

I agree that the expansions recruiting impact to the SEC hasn't been huge, but think it'll be a lot bigger for B1G teams.

4 years 49 weeks ago Good one

" Can do the worm, so will probably get the safety role on the victory formation."

Good one

4 years 49 weeks ago Not really

They have a crap ton of in-state talent, with no major powers within short driving distances.

4 years 51 weeks ago also

Football is soso but they play hard and their coach is hard to dislike

4 years 51 weeks ago Well

Yeah but everyone in every country agrees that they have the worst politicians. Saying 'your state has the most moronic dumb politicians' is different from northerners saying 'like how people from Texas cheat' or some chinese dude joking 'like how Americans are fat and dumb'

4 years 51 weeks ago Shrug

Feel free to get out

4 years 52 weeks ago Nice

You manage to insult Texans and women, which I think your mom was, in one sentence. Guess you aren't interested in being a Michigan Man.

4 years 52 weeks ago Well

If your kids went to college somewhere and people there were joking that Michiganers like him were dumb lazy unioned leechers living in slums, I hope they can laugh it off.

5 years 4 days ago Probably

FSU probably explored other options, but decided that staying in the ACC was a better situation, even if very slightly. Once that decision was made, having a full strength ACC was in their best interest, IMO.

5 years 1 week ago Would like him but...

If he's transfering for more playing time, WVU which just graduated Smith would probably be more appealing.

5 years 1 week ago Well

When you are a 5 star athlete living in Alabama, in fact, when you live in a town called Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and has committed to Alabama, most coaches don't want to waste their time.

That being said, come on up north!

5 years 3 weeks ago Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelll

He's kind of excited right now, but he's already a junior age wise and his stock is rising.

Given how hard it is for big guys to go through their careers without ankle or knee injuries, I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind after the dust settles. Selfishly I want him back, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and i wouldn't blame him.

5 years 3 weeks ago Eh

He's already a junior age wise, so I wouldn't blame him for changing his mind after the dust settles. Athletic, rebounding, runs the floor type of big men are at a premium. You gotta do what you gotta do though selfishly I want him back.

5 years 3 weeks ago The sacrifice

The Final Four Gods required a bloody sacrifice in ACL's and exitings in other major sports.

5 years 3 weeks ago Front page

That kind of 'so happy its hard to breathe' joy is hard to come by, congrats!!!

5 years 6 weeks ago According

According to ACC fans, ND joining in full is a matter of time. Good luck to them.

5 years 6 weeks ago Yeah

Now that the Big East a Catholic basketball conference, the 3 football schools that have been there the longest(UConn, Cincinatti, South Florida) probably just want to get the most exit money possible. I mean, UConn basketball has to recruit kids to the American 12 conference now.

5 years 8 weeks ago Good for him

Almost 60 million dollars for 3 years, including the signing bonus. Not bad!

5 years 8 weeks ago Weird

Guess I went there because I was accepted and didn't know the full extent of just how many loans I would have to take out eventually. Those 4 years went by in a haze of highs, lows, great friends, numbing loneliness, studying, much procrastination, craziness, insanity, and dead boring all rolled into one.

7 years later, when I walk pass certain streets in California, I can close my eyes and feel myself walking past the Chem building.

5 years 9 weeks ago "They didn't even win a National Championship"

Christ, quit acting all so high and mighty, like a National Championship is all that matters. What Chris did is nothing to be proud of, but everyone makes bad choices.

Its widely believed he took the money after his last Michigan ball game, and before the draft. He didn't do drugs, booze and drive, assault someone, shave points, but took us fair and square to 2 final fours. Not to mention the other 4 guys did nothing wrong.

Michigan benefited enormously from the Fab 5 back then, and is even now. Any 'black hole' the program has gone through has way much more to do with coaching than the sanctions.

5 years 11 weeks ago My poor attempt to follow the

My poor attempt to follow the masterpiece:

4:10 pm: For the 97th time Lane checks to make sure the fax machine is working. It is. He opens the USC rivals page... only to discover another 5 star has decommited and is going to Idaho. He slowly stands up, hands shaking. Filled with a rage he cannot control, Lane marches down the hall  to scream at his recruiting coordinator. He opens the door, ready to scream.... and his dads empty office stares back at him.

5 years 11 weeks ago Also

As a high profile public employee representing the University, they are held under higher standards. Cheating on your pregnant wife is a really low thing to do.

5 years 11 weeks ago Uh

Cheating on a pregnant wife is none of our business, but shouldn't be labeled 'bossing' either.

5 years 12 weeks ago Well

It's correct in the same way as a certain n word refers to black people, wetbacks refer to latinos, and cu** can refer to a woman.
