I would think he would almost certainly not get in w with a 3.1 unless he had real high test scores or some other unique talent. As a datapoint, my son is currently deferred at M with a 3.8 and a 32 ACT.
|4 days 10 hours ago||That is really weird to think about||
Hoke never faced Wisconsin and Andersen never faced Michigan. While, both short careers, seems a little crazy. But the 9 game schedule should help.
|4 days 12 hours ago||Out of curiousity||
Where is the shady part of Northville? I grew up mainly there and my parents still live there. I cant really think of anywhere I would be uncomfortable.
|4 days 12 hours ago||As a Northville High grad||
Glad to see us high on the list! And ahead of rival Novi. Maybe I should pull out my varsity jacket, Al Bundy style.....
|4 weeks 3 days ago||this good||
I would say winning the Sugar Bowl in Hoke's first season and beating OSU in 2003 to capture the B1G Title were some pretty great days. Even beating Indiana in 2006 to go to 11-0 going into the OSU game was a great day.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Love the table but one question||
Is the weighted column correct? For Alabama for example, the weighted total is less than the regular total. It also doesnt seem to be the incremental amount. I am confused.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Any insight on special teams?||
They have been so bad lately that I would love to see improvement there. We must have the longest streak in college football without returns for touchdowns (Stonum kick return in 2009 against ND and Odoms punt return in 2008 I think are the most recent.).
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Thanks for the updating btw.||
This is a great list.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Are the column headings correct?||
Aren't the seniors class of 2016? Or does the year refer to the last season they play?
|7 weeks 2 days ago||They did lose McGary, GR3, Stauskas, Morgan and Horford.||
While we expect Beilein to just reload, it's a tall order this year.
|9 weeks 11 hours ago||It really does||
The game screams Big Ten. Zero offensive points......
|11 weeks 1 day ago||You might want to check some facts||
Stoops also had Oklahoma in the National Title game after the 2003, 2004 and 2008 seasons. He lost 21-14 to Saban's LSU squad, 55-19 to Carroll's USC team, and 24-14 to Meyer's Florida team. I would say making the National Title game 4 times is pretty impressive. But even if not, its definitely, out of the ordinary. That may be the most any team made it in the BCS era.
|12 weeks 10 hours ago||I found this post stunning to the point I verified it||
I find it damn near unfathomable that Hoke has only won 6 road game in 3.75 seasons! He is 6-11! That is crazy bad.
|12 weeks 4 days ago||Yeah||
He has garnered some up votes! But he should, his email post may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Without Brandon, there is hope.
|13 weeks 6 hours ago||I didn't either||
That is awesome. I think he has more than Brian!
|13 weeks 1 day ago||I have always wondered about this||
People all thought it was great when Hoke said his goal in college was to try to drink every beer in Podunk Indiana when he was in college. And when he preached toughness. Why does Michigan always want to win on physical play? Being a strong academic school, shouldnt we try to win with smarts over physicality? Bring back Fritz Crisler's Mad Magicians!

|16 weeks 1 day ago||So are you saying||
That our coaches arent good at halftime adjustments? I didnt see a conclusion?
|16 weeks 2 days ago||Is he not toxic now?||
What more does it take? I feel like Brandon is more toxic than RRod was at this point.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||Also put it in perspective||
While Ross is an enormous donor who has made very impressive donations to the University that have likely greatly enriched a lot of things, the University's endowment was $8.4 billion in 2013. I believe Ross has donated around $300 million or 3.5%. He is a big voice, but no individual donor is going to be the only voice.
|16 weeks 3 days ago||33-16 looking pretty good now||
In reference to your footer. The class of 2015 is at 28-17 with 6, maybe 7 games to go.
Plus, you were 3-1 against Ohio, 1-1 against ND, 2-2 against State and 2-2 in bowl games.
Although the class of 2011 is modern day worst, went 24-26.........0-4 against Ohio, 3-1 against ND, 1-3 against State, 1-1 bowl games.
|16 weeks 3 days ago||Really both are pretty bad.||
While I agree that the defense is nowhere near the ineptness of last years running games, being 51st in scoring defense is pretty bad. Expectations in year 4 at Michigan are much higher.
|16 weeks 3 days ago||Yes he would stay but||
How much evidence do you need? We are 3-7 in our last 10 B1G games and 3-10 against Power5 conference teams.
Hypothetically the Pistons can be NBA champions this year.
I was shocked he wasn't fired after Rutgers.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Well, on the bright side||
We are only 1.5 underdogs on Sagarin against Penn State after you factor in home field.
That makes it essentially a toss up.
That is better than I thought it would be.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||I wonder.||
Who do you think Brandon thinks are his customers?
Seems to me he thinks it only is the 931 student athletes and big donors.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Valid point on Mack Brown||
I dont think Threet (or Sheridan or Cone) would have needed to light it up though. The QB would have been a game manager type QB that would have handed off a lot to Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor. We actually stayed in a lot of games that year for a while and lost due to turnovers (often on special teams). I dont think Carr would have had as many issues there as while special teams have never been a strength at Michigan, the dropped punts in 2008 were almost comical there was so many.
Anyways, no need to debate as we will never know and it really doesnt matter.
Clearly would have been better to either have gone to someone with a similar scheme as Carr (the whole Michigan Man bs) or gotten the proper buy-in from those close to the Athletic Dept that a change could be ugly initially.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||I disagree even more||
I think Lloyd goes 7-5 or better. The personnel remaining were better fit to Carr's offense. The defense was actually ok that year. Biggest problem they had was bad field position due to the offense's inability to move the ball and turnovers (remember how many punts we dropped?).
Given that Lloyd coached 13 seasons and never did worse than 7-5, I doubt he would have in 2008.
It was a terrible year to transition, I agree.
But it doesnt really matter. All in the past now.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Unfortunately||
Ron Zook would probably be an upgrade over what we have now.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Actually 10 is better.||
Allows for more toughness.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||I think we need to continue the pressure.||
Anytime there is blood in the water, you have to finish the situation. Brandon will fight back hard and being a CEO, he will be adept at internal politics. It would be great if Brian gave us some direction as I think we would rally behind him.
There are multiple things that I think could help:
The first 3 are ones that can be done individually:
Then some bigger activities that take some organization are:
Essentially the more the message can be gotten across the better. I also think the focus needs to be on Brandon. Not fire Hoke, not we want Harbaugh. Brandon is the root of the problem. Need to address it there.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Does it really make you wonder?||
I feel like we should all be beyond wondering.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||What are the winnable games?||
I think we have the best chance against Indiana and Maryland at home. Less of a chance against Penn State and at Northwestern. Limited to no chance against MSU and OSU. Best case 3-3? Most likely 2-4? Am I optimistic still?
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Thank you||

|16 weeks 6 days ago||Really||
Hiring a good coach on paper would be enough to offset hiring a horrible coach on paper that turned out horrible plus coke gate, seat cushion gate, plane skywriting gate, student seating gate, hockey ticket gate, concussion gate and more? Enough to make him a very good AD? That seems like a low standard.

|16 weeks 6 days ago||Dominos pizza||
Underperformed both the S & P 500 and Papa Johns during Brandon's tenure. That doesn't make him necessarily a bad CEO, but it certainly doesn't mean he is automatically qualified to be AD.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||I think many of the fans would like this.||
However, I feel like the ex-players really want to keep the Bo Mo Carr style alive of conservative offense and stout defense. To "out tough" the opponent. I always thought it was odd that Michigan would emphasize toughness over scheme being an academic school. It obviously worked for Bo but that is becoming a different era.
|17 weeks 5 hours ago||That was a heck of a team of Bo's||
I think the 85 team may have been better. But great team in 1988. My first year at M. Tough start with the back to back losses to ND and Miami (ytm). But won the rest of the way except for a tie at Iowa which sucked as we were about to go ahead and Tracey Williams I think fumbled.
|17 weeks 6 hours ago||Sorry||
I do wonder which offenses will be statistically worse. 2008 seemed so futile trying to run Threet and Sheridan. This year has plenty of talent but little results.
|17 weeks 6 hours ago||I didn't realized we had underperformed||
Glad Brandon is being transparent as Schissel wanted in his statement.
|17 weeks 6 hours ago||Btw, the worst would be||
The 2008 or 2014 offense with the 2010 defense.
|17 weeks 6 hours ago||Why the 88 defense?||
That was a really good team but I don't recall the defense being exceptional. At least not as good as 85, 97 or 80.

|18 weeks 3 days ago||I think the committee should take the 4 best teams.||
Wisconsin won the conference over Nebraska with a horrible record (8-5) in 2012. You really going to take them over a 1 loss team from another conference that didn't win their conference. Clearly a conference championship should be a big plus but need to look at the entire resume.
|18 weeks 3 days ago||Carr was vilified for that.||
I remember watching that Iowa game and thinking wtf are they doing lined up like that. I have to believe whatever M did in 2003 wasn't really the correct way to run the spread punt..
Poor Carr, tries to be cutting edge for once and it backfired.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||Its not clear to me it will be Morris next year anyways||
My guess is he will need to compete with Speight. While Morris will be a Junior and Speight only a redshirt freshman, Morris hasnt looked that good when in, even against App State which was not a pressure situation. Ultimately, Michigan should play whoever they have that they think gives them the best chance to win.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||Honestly, most people here were probably overly optimistic||
Vegas had our over/under at 7.5 games for the regular season. Most of us laughed at that (I predicted 9-3). Since Vegas is generally trying to even out the money, that means 7.5 games was the consensus across the gambling community.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||I am stunned||
I could picture 2-2 before the season but not the way it unfolded. 2 completely uncompetitive losses to teams I really dont think are that good. Hoke is right that it happened in 1998 and we rebounded. But that was in an era where we had just won a national title and been good for a long time. That "stunned" was the realization that we werent invincible on defense like we were the year before with Woodson. This "stunned" is holy shit, Hoke needs to go unless he rebounds.

Last year Gardner had 237 yards of the 585 rushing in the first 3 games. And it was roughly 50% against ND and 60% against Akron.
This year he has 39 out of the 726.
|19 weeks 5 days ago||We are definitely doing better||
Last year we had 585 yards rushing in the first 3 games against similar competition (CMU, ND, Akron). So we are up over 20%. But it will be interesting if we can run the ball against tougher defensive teams. 20% better against MSU and PSU doesn't make much difference.

We are 9-9-1 in Notre Dame Stadium. We lead the modern "renewal" of the series 15-14-1. Win this game and we have a winning record in their stadium and win the modern series. Lose it and we tie the modern series and have a losing record in their stadium.
We need to win.

|24 weeks 2 days ago||We have 5 home conference games in even years||
I would think we would need to add home teams in the odds years when we have 4 home conference games.
The 2018 schedule is actually pretty good. Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State and Arkansas at home- those are some decent teams. Then SMU, Indiana and Maryland.
Whereas right now for 2019, we only have Iowa, Rutgers, State and Ohio at home. While we have our two rivals, with at Arkansas lined up, we need two more home games.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||although||

I am okay with it, let's use Michigan's resources to be the best!
|1 year 3 weeks ago||I am with you.||
Another 7-6 season and I think the Hoke era ends unless there are some extreme cirumstances like Gardner and Morris being hurt most of the season or 6 losses by a total of 9 points or something.
I think he is on the seat at 8-5 honestly. Three mediocre seasons in a row sound pretty bad. Consider our history starting with Bo. Over the last 45 years, Michigan has lost 5 or more games 7 seasons. Once by Bo in 1984. Once by Carr in 2005. Three by RR (2008-2010) and now two by Hoke (2012-2013).
I think Hoke needs to go 9-4. It's his fourth season at the helm, the team is mainly his guys. The season sets up well in that while your 3 rivalry games are all on the road, you are probably favored to win your other 9.
|1 year 3 weeks ago||Well was it 900 or countless times?||
Just kidding. I understand your point but I took it to mean that he intended to bring them back but that maybe he would lose 1 to a promotion at another program. Hard to believe he anticipated bringing Borges back.

i think we will be underdogs for sure in the 3 road games against our rivals.
As for Notre Dame, I don't think we usually beat ND on the road. We have lost 2 of our last 3 on the road there and 5 of the last 7 on the road there.
I think we go 8-4 or 9-3.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||It's not new||
People thought that after the 87 season. I was a student and the talk was how the game passed Bo by and MSU was the new power.
Well then Michigan won 5 straight Big Ten titles (4 outright) and that nonsense was put to bed.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||It could have happened.||
Oklahoma played LSU for the national title in 2003 but did not win the Big 12. Alabama beat LSU for the national title in 2011 but did not even win the SEC West. I also think Nebraska may have not won the Big 12 in 2001 when they played Miami for the national title.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||I think Hoke was trying to appease the old timers||
Bo always focused on B1G titles because it was in your control whereas the National Title was in the hands of the voters. I don't think this is why there is a difference in level of success this season.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||A crappy variation of this occurred in 2000.||
Anthony Thomas had the yards for a first down and could have just kneeled down. But instead he kept going to try and get a TD. A Northwestern defender caught him and forced a fumble. Northwestern then scored to beat Michigan 54-51.
If Thomas had just taken a knee past the sticks, it would have been victory formation time.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Not true.||
The AP writers are not required to vote for the winner of the BCS Title game.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Mr. Miggle is correct||
Oklahoma was undefeated but then lost big in the Big 12 championship game (35-7). Somehow in the computers, they were still ranked high enough to play in the BCS game. All 3 teams had 1 loss. USC, despite being ranked #1 in both human polls, was left out. LSU beat Oklahoma 21-14 to take the BCS Title whereas USC beat Michigan 28-14 to take the AP Poll.

|1 year 7 weeks ago||Who would the Committee have selected this year?||
If the 4 team playoff had started already, seems like this would be more controversial than the current system. Florida State and Auburn would be locks. But then you have the other power conference winners- Stanford, Michigan State and Baylor competing with Alabama for 2 spots.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||7-5 would be unacceptable to me.||
That would be three 5 or more loss seasons in a row with no sign of progress. Our schedule has 3 tough games, all of our rivals on the road. Otherwise, we will be favored in our other 9 games. I think we go 9-3.
|1 year 8 weeks ago||History would say 2-3||
Given the schedule, that seems about right although I could see winning one of the tough 3.
On the flip side, we have a really good shot at winning all of our home games next year. But I see a 9-3 season for 2014.
Then in 2015, we edge up to 10-2 (losing at Utah and PSU), but win the B1G East and the B1G.

|1 year 8 weeks ago||Mattison was our DC in 1995 and 1996||
We upset Ohio each time 31-23 and 13-9.
The 1996 season was very similar to this one. The Buckeyes were blowing people out, undefeated, 10-0, and ranked #2. Meanwhile we were 7-3 with a solid defense and an anemic offense under 2nd year OC Fred Jackson (Fred said our offense was like the speed of light but faster and like Atlas but stronger......). We had even lost at Purdue 9-3. Yet the defense kept us in the game and we rebounded from a 9-0 deficit at the half.
Michigan 20, Ohio 17
|1 year 13 weeks ago||Their 89 game against Illinois was a classic||
Leading 10-7 with under 2 minutes to go, they just needed to run out the clock. I actually think they could have just taken a knee but they chose to plunge into the line with their back, Hylant Hickson. He of course fumbled and Jeff George drove Illinois for a TD and the win.
It's actually a pet peeve of mine when coaches decide to run between the tackles when they could just take a knee. You still see it quite often. At the end of the first half, maybe the logic is that you could break a big run but it seems like the risk of fumbling and giving up points is greater than ripping off a 60+ yard run on the last play of the half. But you see it at the end of games as well. We may have even been able to just take a knee against Indiana this year at the end when Fitz rumbled for the TD but not sure.

The 1995 5-0 Purdue game in the rain/sleet was never more than 75% full for example. I was there and stayed to the end. It was cool actually, I just followed the line of scrimmage in about row 20 for the 4th quarter. Couldn't have been more than 25,000 there at the end.
|1 year 14 weeks ago||This board is extremely fragile as of late.||
Hoke is 24-8 as a coach. He has a Sugar Bowl win. Hard to crucify him over 1 loss. Plus, look at all the other top teams losing this year and every year in college football. Just this week, #5 Stanford at Utah, #8 Louisville at home against UCF.
|1 year 14 weeks ago||I think they announce the higher of ticket sales or actual.||
In that mid 70s game, was it not a sellout?
|1 year 14 weeks ago||How do you get 30 with Gibbons 2-2?||
Wile makes one? We go for 2 after all 3 TDs? We miss all extra points after 4 TDs?
|1 year 14 weeks ago||42-28 Michigan||
Hoke to 19-0 at home!
|1 year 15 weeks ago||It is frustrating.||
Borges doesnt seem to make in-game adjustments very well. It is as if the plan was determined earlier and we go with the plan, regardless of how it is working.
I will say that our offense is much better than a GERG defense though. Our scoring offense is ranked 22nd right now and while I didnt look it up, I think GERG's defenses were ranked in the 100 range.
|1 year 15 weeks ago||Great post!||
One question though. How many teams have tried to score a TD with under a minute and 80 yards to go? You mentioned 6 made it. I was wondering what the percentage was.
|1 year 15 weeks ago||Treadwell||
Anything seems better. Doesn't Funk report to Borges? Don't see how the O Line issues don' t roll up to him.
|1 year 19 weeks ago||Actually we were on our 45||
It was 4th and 1. I thought we should have gone for it. I would be curious what the Mathlete would think.
|1 year 27 weeks ago||Totally agree Don.||
I remember going there as a kid around when it opened thinking how stupid a really steep big staircase is on a stadium used for winter sports. Olympia had charm like Yost. I understand a pro team needed more than charm, but Joe Louis seemed to miss the boat on everything but more seats. The Palace opened about a decade later and seemed significantly better.
|1 year 31 weeks ago||Agree with the above on Bo.||
Also Bo's Lasting Lessons, I think by John Bacon. 3 and out if you want the Richrod saga. There is also a book by Jon Faulk that is interesting, I can't remember the name.
|1 year 33 weeks ago||If you read the article||
They play ASU this year and next. They also play us this year and next. Not sure how you concluded they replaced us with ASU.
|1 year 33 weeks ago||I was just happy to see a M hockey thread!||
Given the new B1G hockey conference and the greatest schedule since I have followed Michigan Hockey (25 seasons, I am old....), I really think there should be more hype.
Hopefully, this year's schedule is indicative of future year's as well.
|1 year 38 weeks ago||We hired a guy named Bo once.||
He worked for some Ohio team. Come to think of it, we hired a guy named Mo that played for that same Ohio team. Those hires worked out pretty well!
|1 year 39 weeks ago||I am with you.||
I figured the blue jackets have about 7 fans. Hard to picture Columbus truck drivers yelling Let's Go Blue.....Jackets.
|1 year 39 weeks ago||They got it||
They just need to tie in regulation. They are up 3-0 with 1:19 to go and on power play.
|1 year 39 weeks ago||The Wings could do well in the playoffs.||
They have really come on of late. If Yale can win as the last team in, no reason the Wings can't win as a 7th seed.
|1 year 41 weeks ago||Comparable team to this year||
I think we will be in a position to challenge in the B1G for the title and be a 3-4 seed in the tourney. Likely make the Sweet Sixteen but probably not a Final Four team. Hope I am wrong on the latter part.
|1 year 41 weeks ago||There always seems to be outliers every game.||
I don't understand it. But I went to the 2002 ND game (atND) with 3 guys from work and 1 guy wore a Charlie Batch Detroit Lions jersey.........
|1 year 43 weeks ago||The B1G needs to win National Titles for respect nationwide.||
Since our win in 1989, the B1G has only 1title, State in 2000. That's pretty bad. During that timespan the ACC, Big East and SEC have quite a few. And it's not just blueboods like Duke, NC and Kentucky although they have 10 in that stretch I believe. Schools like Arkansas, Maryland, UNLV, Arizona, Syracuse each have a title. UConn came out of nowhere and won 3.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||I like the high profile games.||
But I wish more were at home. Due to the Joe game against MSU, only 9 home conference games. Then the 2 Boston games, 2 Tech games and maybe 2 Ferris games is only 15 home games.
I count 33 games not counting playoffs. 15 home, 15 away, 3 neutral (Joe and GLI).
I guess there probably will still be the lesser games to fill out the home schedule like the exhibition games against a Canada college team and the Under 18 team. Sucks not to have any home playoff games.
Still, glad to see the Boston teams and I would guess we will get New Hampshire next year.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Either||
Win the B1G tourney and make the Elite 8
Make the Final Four
Otherwise, this season isnt a success. Tying for 4th regular season is an underachievement so the team has ground to make up.
|1 year 48 weeks ago||This is great for Detroit||
Even better than the old Norris. Getting Boston, Montreal and Toronto is well worth losing Chicago. I agree that it sucks for Chicago.
|2 years 1 week ago||You could keep checking the ticket spreadsheet.||
But I think it will be hard to find a pair for $20. The ticket spreadsheet is under MGoBoard up top on this site. I have 4 at face of $20 each for sale for the Saturday Ferris State game.
|2 years 1 week ago||Gardner question||
Does the below quote mean its huge that he got his redshirt or does it mean it is huge if he gets his redshirt?
Devin Gardner getting his redshirt is huge not just for the team as a whole, but also Morris's development.
|2 years 4 weeks ago||9-4||
5 for sure wins: CMU, Akron, @UConn, Indiana, Minn
8 losable games: ND, @MSU, @PSU, @NW, @Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, Bowl game. I think we lose 2 road games, a home game and the bowl game.
Under Hoke we are 14-0 at home, but only 5-7 road/neutral site.
|2 years 4 weeks ago||That 85 team had an incredible defense||
For all the hype that Harbaugh and Morris get, the offense is what held that team back.
|2 years 4 weeks ago||I wish the Fords would sell the team||
Let Illitch or Gilbert buy it. I think there would be better results. The Fords are the one constant through the 50+ year debacle.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Great post||
Very interesting. I find it reassuring to see statistics detail out that ND and Ohio are not as good as their records. Fortunately Ohio is on probation so we don't have to see the two lucky teams play for the national title.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||Thanks||
Looks like I will just go to 20 as an Alumnus.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||What is the source of this news?||
Also, right now I get 10 points as I have 2 degrees from Michigan. Will I get 40 or just 20 now?
|2 years 10 weeks ago||My wife claims they were new.||
We go to most games and she tends to notice anything other than the game itself!
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Out of curiosity||
I know this doesn't impact the record but was Pat White a 4 year starter?
|2 years 12 weeks ago||Ties||
I would think the team with the jug would retain the jug in a tie.
|2 years 13 weeks ago||M 26 Minn 10||
652 yards of total offense for both teams
401 for Michigan and 251 for Minnesota
|2 years 13 weeks ago||It gets worse if Bama loses||
I never thought I would say this but if Bama loses to say LSU and Oregon loses to someone, it's ND vs. K State for the national title. I could see ND winning that game unfortunately.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||How was San Diego St's and Ball St's defense?||
Hoke didn't have Mattison there. Obviously those are weaker programs but did they have strong defenses? I wonder how much is Mattison and how much is Hoke?
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Mack Brown might not like it but||
That just comes with the territory at being at the richest football program in the country. I bet he likes all the money that leads to better facilities and all the exposure that leads to better recruits. I agree with the posters above, he is just making excuses for a shoddy defense which has put them out of the Big 12 race midway through October.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Nice post||
Thanks for this and the other content you have created.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Field rush in 1989 after Ohio game||
It started before the game was over as I was in the middle of the field and looked up to see 6 seconds still on the clock. Michael Taylor had just taken a knee. I remember thinking how big he looked in pads and helmet compared to the class I had with him.
We didnt know it but that was Bo's last game as a coach in M Stadium. Clinched the Big 10 outright. I think the score was 28-18.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||I think you need to see how he does in a pro style offense.||
Hard to judge a guy when he is outside his expertise. But I agree there is concern. I have seen Auburn's undefeated team referenced as a Borges credential but in reality their offense wasn't very good that year and he was ultimately canned.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||A thread hijack but who is responsible for the fake FG working?||
Is that on Mattison? Or is that a special teams coach? That was obviously a huge turning point if it doesn't succeed. I am amazed that we were not prepared there.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||It's kind of troubling||
It is somewhat infrequent that we don't score TDs historically and it has now happened twice this year. We have score only 32 points total against the 3 top defenses we have faced. Fortunately, we don't really face anymore top defenses this year (except maybe in the bowl).
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Well,||
The crowd did rush the field. It was packed after the game.
I think a lot of Michigan fans wanted to beat Sparty pretty bad. Several vehemently disagreed with me when I said the Nebraska game is more important. Hopefully, everyone follows Hoke's lead and we focus on the B1G title and not Sparty from now on.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||Brian's weird scores||
I always thought he just took the output of some computer model. Does he? Or does he just pick weird scores?

|2 years 15 weeks ago||M 14 S 3||
Rushing yards of 151
|2 years 15 weeks ago||why the odd picks lately?||
I agree with Frank Murphy that 11 is pretty odd and 29 isnt really that common. Last week you picked 32-18 I think. Do you have some sort of model that is spitting out a number?
|2 years 16 weeks ago||M 49-0||
|2 years 16 weeks ago||If you want to pick them up in Southfield||
You can have my 4 tickets for tonights exhibition game against Windsor for free. I couldnt find anyone that wanted them.
I also have available 4 tickets for this Friday against RIT and next Friday against Bentley. Face is $20 each but I am willing to consider any offer.
|2 years 17 weeks ago||How do you feel about your original top 10?||
About 5 weeks ago you posted:
"My Top10: 1.Oklahoma 2.Oregon 3.Texas 4.Alabama 5.Georgia 6.USC 7.Ohio 8.Michigan 9.ND 10.LSU".
7 still undefeated, OU and USC with a loss and M with 2 losses.
What does your model show now for a Top 10? What would Michigan's rank be?
Thanks for your great posts btw.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Texas is the best choice.||
I believe they have the second most wins in football, just ahead of ND. Texas is deep in tradition, a solid academic school, has a huge following. They also just dropped Texas A& M, a long time rival, so maybe they could work us in. We are 0-1 lifetime against them so it would be nice to get another crack at them.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Unfortunately, I agree||
While way less fun as a fan, playing cupcakes is solid way to increase the chances of getting into the BCS championship game/playoff. Once the 4 team playoff starts, an undefeated B1G champion will get a spot every time.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||I could be wrong but||
My recollection is that when Canham agreed with ND to resume the series in the late 70's, he agreed to an extra game in South Bend provided that the home team got to keep the majority (maybe all?) of the gate revenue. It was due to the disparity in Stadium size as Michigan Stadium was 100,000+ and ND Stadium was around 60,000. I do not believe that the current arrangement treats the gate revenue this way but my guess is that once you got through the original contract, the next series started in Ann Arbor so it should end in South Bend.
But I don't have a link or anything so as my intro said, I could be wrong.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||see the ticket spreadsheet up on MGoBoard||
Tickets are available for quite a few games, including against Miami (ranked #9).
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Why are we arguing who is the blame?||
Its not like just one person is to blame. The whole team is too blame. Denard executed poorly. Borges got too creative. The receivers didnt get much separation. No one really did anything exceptional. Even the defense, who played great all game, couldnt make a stop when they had to.
I have confidence that they learn from this and move forward. While it would have been great to beat our rival, winning the B1G is really what matters given that after the Alabama debacle, any shot of national honors was out the window.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||You guys are all wrong||
I blame The Knowledge. He predicted the win and it didnt happen. Is this another alter universe dimension problem?
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Does anyone thing the B1G can win the Rose Bowl?||
I just don't see how the B1G champion beats USC/Oregon/Stanford.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Mixed||
I feel much better about Mattison and our defense.
I question Borges more and more. Hard to understand 1st and goal twice from the 10 in the first quarter and we ran a sweep to Touisant, two passes by Denard and a pass by Vincent Smith. I don't feel like he puts Denard in the best position to succeed.
B1G season will be interesting. Who will be the lamb for the PAC 12?
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Link?||
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Which time?||
03 or 07?
|2 years 19 weeks ago||If the average home field advantage is 3.8 points,||
I wonder what the advantage (if any) is for the 105th team. My guess is that it is still something positive.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||I dont know||
Last 5 games at each location, Michigan is 2-3 at ND and 4-1 at home. Seems like a home field advantage to me. Going back 10 more games, Michigan is 1-3-1 at ND and 3-2 at home.
Combined last 20 games, Michigan is 3-6-1 at ND and 7-3 at home.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||what officials do they use for the game?||
Is it Big East officials since ND is currently associated with the Big East in everything but football? I assume it is not B1G officials.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Unfortunately, Michigan lost the first 3 night games at ND||
Need to change the streak. I was at the 1990 game as a student and it was a horribly depressing loss as Michigan was ranked #1 and ND came from behind in the 4th quarter to win. It started to rain just around when the game ended. Seemed fitting.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||I second this.||
Give it to Funchess. And in the future, give all these numbers to freshman. Use it as a recruiting tool. I believe that is how the number 1 jersey thing started. Bo wanted an extra edge to pull Carter from Florida. I think if you look before Carter, the #1 jersey was just a jersey assigned to whoever.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||So the QB's at our main rivals are all negatives?||
I know your numbers are averages but if I am reading this correctly:
ND is starting a freshman now (although may go back to Rees). So that would be a -1.6.
MSU has Maxwell who is in year 1 of 2. So that would be a -1.9.
Ohio has Miller who is in year 2 of 4. So that would be a -.2. Although Miller had an OC change which in his case was probably better.
This implies though that all of our rivals are held back by their QB. And in MSU's case, it really wont get much better. Miller should be a beast thought by his senior season. As for ND, hard to tell with the carousel QB process they use.
What I dont understand is how can Denard only be worth +4? Is that just +4 from average?
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I agree as well.||
The recap and link are nice.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||Awesome!||
The flyover was the highlight of the game!
|2 years 20 weeks ago||I am hopeful as well||
We have had plenty of rough starts in the past that have turned into pretty good seasons (88, 98, and 07 started 0-2 and ended 9-2-1, 10-3 and 9-4).
We have a cupcake next week so we will be 2-1 after game 3 which is where most of us thought we would be at. Our opponents have had their struggles as well. ND just got by Purdue and Nebraska lost at UCLA. State may or may not be good, I think it is too early to tell. Ohio struggled somewhat against UCF. Our potential opponent in the B1G championship game lost to Oregon State.
No need to panic. The team has issues but our young talent should get better at a fast clip.
