Only if it's nothing more…

Only if it's nothing more than "quasi-"

You've probably not heard this before, but John Beilein has never served as an assistant co--you know what, never mind.

We also have a coach who, in…

We also have a coach who, in the last three months, beat Arizona, as well as a number of teams roughly in Northwestern's class (Texas A&M, and VaTech, Butler).

Well, there's alway Patrick…

Well, there's alway Patrick Ewi--oh, wait, no.. my producers are telling me that it's no longer 2022... and that Georgetown is technically not in the Power Five.

NFL to UM:  "You got any…

NFL to UM:  "You got any more of them OL?"

Is this being reported…

Is this being reported somewhere, or is this just an educated guess?  Casula left behind the OC postion at UMass to coach TE here.  Seems like Osborn's move would be analogous.

Seth, I'm more likely to be…

Seth, I'm more likely to be the person who's confused here, but re: your "2." isn't the original Fulton tweet suggesting that Mac and Minter were more Fangio-like than Wink-like, not that Wink is more Fangio-like?--such that you're actually agreeing with Fulton.  Again, maybe I'm misreading, but I took the Fulton tweet that you quoted to imply the opposite of your interpretation in the OP:

That's what was always interesting to me in discussing the "Ravens tree" because Mac and Minter were not at all doing the same thing that Wink was doing. Was more Fangio-esque.

I'm mostly confused about…

I'm mostly confused about the "no source" claim for this reason:

That Fickell was inviting Vrabel to be around the team this year was front-page news on ESPN this morning.

He mentioned one person: …

He mentioned one person:  Sterling Lucas, who would be coaching linebackers.  Lucas currently coaches outside linebackers at South Carolina, where he's coached for two years and has punched above his/their weight class on the recruiting trail, luring in some good recruits, including two five stars.  Lucas is a NC St. grad who had stints coaching in the NFL before landing at USC (not that USC).

Well, if it's just Big Ten,…

Well, if it's just Big Ten, then the stats are wrong... B/c the situation is even worse.

UM basketball has been outscored by 113 points, just in the second half, just in the 11 games of conference play.

The only conference game in which we've outscored our opponent in the second half was our road win at Iowa.

It's not you--it's them.

It's not you--it's them.

Yeah... I would sometimes…

Yeah... I would sometimes chuckle at people talking about physical resemblances between Jay and Jim (or lack thereof).  I mean, you do imitate individuals that you spend time with... but they aren't strictly related by blood.

If that pipeline keeps…

If that pipeline keeps brining younger coaches, I fear we'd be in a pickle.

 Magnus only has two 25'…

Magnus only has two 25' recruits coming to town this weekend

!!!  Tacopants had twins!  Do want.

I'm hearing conflicting…

I'm hearing conflicting reports from insiders...

... some are hopeful our photographers stay, because being a team photographer in the NFL just isn't as prestigious, as most pros hire their own personal photographers.

... on the other hand, our photographers seem to have been pretty committed to Harbaugh, and one briefly tweeted on X (in a since-deleted post) that he can't photograph the Lombardi trophy at UM.

Regardless, you can be sure that the photographers are leveraging the situation to ask for unprecedented contracts from Warde.  Still, if we fail to retain them, it will be Warde's fault, as shortly after negotiations fail, it will be leaked that the photographers would have actually taken only a modest increase in salary.

Blue Bunny Friday.  Jack…

Blue Bunny Friday.  Jack Daniels Monday.

I mean, technically, yes-…

I mean, technically, yes--but that was on their final drive, and they were pretty much compelled to go for it on 4th down on the goal line, since they were down by 10 with under a minute to play.  So, that's probably not what you have in mind.

But otherwise, no, they were 0-2 on other conversions, and then of course they punted on 4th down and kicked a FG on 4th down near the end of the half.

Moore was 0-3 vs ohio state…

Moore was 0-3 vs ohio state before these guys came here...

I think you mean that Michigan was 0-2 vs. Ohio State while Moore was the TE coach, prior to the arrival of Clink and Hart.

Well, fortunately, Sherrone…

Well, fortunately, Sherrone actually hit a triple.

Yesterday evening I decided…

Yesterday evening I decided to play the "Mgoblog David Shaw Comparisons Drinking Game" and was already passed out long before this thread appeared.

So... late Ellerbe?

So... late Ellerbe?

Hahaha.

Hey, we saw that!…

Hahaha.

Hey, we saw that!!!

It's called Grow-a-Book. …

It's called Grow-a-Book.  Just add water!

If you actually listened to…

If you actually listened to the "pass the torch" comment, it was more indicative of him returning rather than leaving.  He talked about preparing for the next season as if he we were returning to Michigan to see the torch being passed from one team of players to the next.  Personally, I would avoid reading into it at all, as it was pretty vague, and he was just trying to say something when put on the spot about his job status.

... he's exited for next year

... he's exited for next year

😨😨😨😨

What if I told you that her…

What if I told you that her work as pseudo-celebrity troll at ESPN yielded her a job as a writer at... *checks notes* ...  The Atlantic?

What if I also told you that her college football championship piece was on the hypocrisy of college football economics in the NIL era... and that a picture of UM was plastered at the top of the article... AND that she called for revenue-sharing without ever mentioning Harbaugh as a champion of the cause?

So, yes, I'm intentionally not linking the article.

There is nothing wrong with…

There is nothing wrong with using "less" in this context.  "Fewer" is generally used in the case of countable items, but need only be used when these items are actually plural.

"Two fewer coaching positions"

"One less coaching position"

Probably merits its own…

Probably merits its own board post!

... or so the Germans want…

... or so the Germans would have us believe!

They announced player names…

They announced player names whether the player in question was present or not.  Roman didn't emerge from out of the tunnel when called.

... this is true if the refs…

... this is true if the refs make the right call and if he recovers the ball in the endzone.  But, with Bama gunners bearing down on him, he simply had to recover it ASAP, which was before the ball crossed the goal line.  Whether he retreated into the endzone shouldn't have been relevant since he called a fair catch, so the ball is marked where it was recovered.

 If he had retreated into…

If he had retreated into the end zone after recovering the ball in the field of play, and was tackled there, the correct call would still have been touchback because he called for a fair catch, meaning the ball is dead when he recovers it, so nothing that happens after that point is relevant.

It seems like you understand the rule, so am I right that you meant to say "If he had retreated into the end zone after recovering the ball in the field of play... the correct call would have been to mark him where he recovered the muff [not a safety, but not a touchback] because he called for a fair catch, meaning the ball is dead when he recovers it, so nothing that happens after that point is relevant"?

Please don't bring…

Please don't bring epistemology into this discussion.  This is a sports blog.

Sorry, what did you say?

Sorry, what did you say?

Things don't really register for me anymore unless they are included in at least four different posts on the Message Board.

No, you're thinking of…

No, you're thinking of Darius Clemons--this is Darius Clemmons.

(Who are we kidding?  The board has already notified us of the departure of Clemons and Clemmons, probably multiple times in each case.)

Yeah, I had something of a…

Yeah, I had something of a similar reaction the other day when I realized that Carroll was 72, as I'd memory-holed most of his career prior to his tenure with USC, starting in 2001.  (And the guy has always looked young.)  Then I recalled that he was briefly a head coach in the NFL in the mid-90s with the Jets, immediately before his time with the Niners and Patriots.  "Fun Fact":  Carroll had a brief stint as a coordinator with OSU in 1979, the year after Woody Hayes retired.

Speaking of Sam, this…

Speaking of Sam, this interview ("Michigan CB Amorion Walker ready to earn starting role in 2024") didn't age well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0On3iQoFU8

To be clear, I'm not criticizing Sam, just thought it was funny that this interview transpired less than two weeks ago.  Apparently, the "starting role" was with some other program.

User name weirdly checks out.

I have mixed feelings about these videos, but since it's relevant to the OP, is mildly amusing, and/but doesn't really merit it's own post, here's Matt Mitchell's season recap, which comes from an SEC perspective but includes a number of references to the Big Ten (including that team that just won the National Championship):

Might be even happier for you than for myself.  Thanks for all of your hard work over the years and giving words to what so many of us were feeling.  I can't separate the last 13 years of my fandom from MGoBlog.

McCord protected the ball…

McCord protected the ball better and had a better % completion but again you throw within 7 yards of MHJ you get a completion.

... I mean, unless Will Johnson is also within seven yards of the football.

Also:  A young Aidan sacked the Alabama QB late in the half to end their drive... and then the ref threw a BS flag b/c Aidan fell too hard on the QB, giving Bama a first down and eventual TD.  A nine-point lead was cut to two going into the half.

I'm responding to an…

I'm responding to an exchange in which wetnoodle made this claim:

"JJ played alot that year and we would not have won as much without him."

By "won as much" I take him to mean that his contributions added a couple of wins (minimally) to our record.  By "significant" I mean that it changed the complexion of our season in a meaningful way, which doesn't seem different than what wetnoodle was arguing.

I remember perfectly well the plays that JJ made throughout the season, including those you cite.  All the same, he ate some of the snaps Cade might have otherwise completed.  My assumption is that our record could have just as easily been 13-0 or 11-2 w/o JJ.  I don't in any way disagree with how he was employed, but wetnoodle overstates the case, and assumes that none of us remembered JJ entering the game in non-mop-up settings, but still to the tune of roughly 50 yds. of passing a game.

I agree with your Mullings and Morgan comp.  By claiming that "we're winning games without those guys," you're agreeing with me, and not the original premise that I was denying.

First, insofar as the main…

First, insofar as the main point under discussion is the importance of recruiting, I absolutely agree that stars matter, and JJ > Cade.

However, claiming that JJ's contributions in 2021 significantly altered our W-L record is laughable.

You know where else he didn…

You know where else he didn't coach this year?  Alabama.

No, but Spencer Petras does…

No, but Spencer Petras does.  He'll be playing at Utah State, despite beginning his playing career at Iowa in... 2018.

No, that was Isaiah Bond. …

No, that was Isaiah Bond.  Brooks fell behind Bond on the depth chart and was playing a lot of special teams.
