3 years 11 weeks ago not a great cb

I know these stats dont tell the whole story (look for him not his cousin, and look who is on top!)

http://www.profootballfocus.com/by_position.php?tab=by_position&season=2...

but I would be hesitant trading for Cromartie after his past two seasons. But if the Lions can pick him up for cheap say a 2nd day draft pick then that might not be so bad.

3 years 22 weeks ago term paper?

Isnt that is one of the things in college you do?

3 years 23 weeks ago wow

This is a completely inaccurate representation of the trade. Granderson is a pretty good player defensively and offensively. He hit 30 home runs this year, and as a lefty in new Yankee Stadium with that shallow right field, he could hit like 35 next year. He does strike out a bit much, and his OBP could be better, but he draws a decent number of walks as it is. Hes a certain upgrade over Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner, though he has trouble hitting lefties (well platoon him probably with those other two and a resigned Damon).

Austin Jackson is not really our top overall prospect on offense. That would be future catcher/DH Jesus Montero. Jackson could end being fairly good, though. Problem is he strikes out a lot, and probably will never hit for as much power as Granderson does. If he progresses well in about 3-4 years he could be almost as good an outfielder defensively, and probably a slightly worse batter.

Ian Kennedy is definitely not our top pitching prospect. That would be Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes. Kennedy is something like a AAA all star who cant seems to put it together in the pros. His location is good and could get even better, but his stuff just isnt that great speed wise.

Yankees made a pretty good trade. They essentially swapped a good prospect for a player already in their prime who is probably better than that prospect ever will be anyway. They also had to let go of a decent pitching prospect, who probably wouldn't have ever seen meaningful time in the Bronx anyway.

Detroit should be happy for Scherzer, hes pretty good; the best pitcher of all three involved.

3 years 24 weeks ago Holy Shit

Im pretty sure each of those jerseys looks worse than its predecessor. They're too weird and try to hard to be some kind of advanced new age "not just a jersey, but a football skin." Most of them were hideous, and not a single one actually looked good. Moreover the narration describing each suit is simply laughable, overall really ludicrous stuff. The "titanium d ring" gets me every time.

Im glad the NFL has realized the value in throwbacks. Just about each one used this season looks better than the franchises' current variations. Too bad college football programs don't take that route more often.

3 years 38 weeks ago the real question is

do they roll on shabbos?

3 years 40 weeks ago Oddly enough

Big L is way under represented on this thread. Hands down, easily top 5 ever. Also Big Punisher should get some recognition. Fantastic ability probably top 12-15 all time.

Jay-Z- better than Nas if only for quite possibly the greatet rap album ever, his debut, Reasonable Doubt. No Nas song can equal "Can I Live" or "D'Evils," or the versatility on "22 two's" and oozing flow on "Cashmere Thoughts." There isnt a week song on the album. His use of different rhyme schemes, the (PRIMO!) beats, and his flow are amazing.

Biggie- as Jigga said if he aint the best hes the closest one. BIG is still unsurpassed in lyricism, flow, and rhyme. Easily better than Pac ever was, and its really impossible to name anyone that surpasses him.

Big L- fantastic flow and lyricism, even beats out Jay-Z (before Jigga had come into his own) on the infamous freestyle. Problem hes not such a great story teller, his images are not as strong. For example, his most famous narrative attempt, "the heist," is fairly week.

Wu Tang- as a group is unstoppable. 36 Chambers is one of the greatest rap albums ever, and thats ignoring the individual work.

Outkast- fantastic funk, best Southern rap available

Nas- amazing of course. As to the Jay-Z debate he has no one song or album that can equal Reasonable Doubt. His flow is choppier and less refined, as are his rhyme schemes. However, its really hard to beat his best stuff like the opening verse to N.Y. State of Mind.

Eminem-for those of you who dont remember or appreciate the D-12 monster, this man used to be outstanding.

Currently, for you Michigan kids Black Milk is worth checking out. Clipse, and the Re-Up Gang are a good listen.

3 years 47 weeks ago Swisher

Questions Ive been meaning to ask you Yankee fans on this site: what are your feelings on Nick Swisher? Could he be a "TRUE YANKEE," or is he just a welcome visitor? To what extent can you bring yourself to root for him?

I like him. I think hes good for the team, the clubhouse, and the fans. However, I don't think I could bring myself to buy a Swisher jersey. His likability has some Ohio State caused limit for me, and I am reluctant to go be all out pro-Swisher.

3 years 48 weeks ago Brunetti

I was surprised about his WVU commit, but I think he's trying to hold a spot. I went to High School with Brunetti, and most students there are UT fans (I got so much shit in 2002, and on Woodson's Heisman over Peyton). The problem is that Kiffin hasn't offered him yet. Its highly likely that had he been offered, Brunetti would have committed. Brunetti doesn't have good grades, and often got himself into a little trouble with his lack of academic performance. Its a good high school, and the kid would do fine at UT, but maybe the grades scare some bigger offers away.
Im surprised to see Gardner ranked lower than Brunetti. Brunetti's great, but I think Gardner is more athletic and a better future quarterback.

3 years 48 weeks ago For sure

Agreed. On Friedman and the Yankees.

3 years 49 weeks ago As a Titans fan

The 1999 Superbowl against the Rams truly defines a "game of inches" for me. I watched it as a kid, and yea I cried a little. I still get emotional every time I see the replay.

As far as the Wolverines go, that Michigan-Texas Rose Bowl was great to watch. They sure could have used an inch on blocking that field goal. But how great was having all those USC fans feel the same thing the next year? That awful feeling of knowing something is coming but being unable to stop it.

Coming full circle, I was thus pleased when the Titans picked Vince Young in the draft. Too bad he hasn't lived up to that Bowl game magic since.

3 years 49 weeks ago just epinion

GBMW is not good. However, it really isnt awful aside from the layout. My pet peeve is the ubiquitous e prefix. Is it ever necessary? Eblog, epinion, ebanter... its just redundant and annoying. Its a blog, which necessarily means its online. I get it. No need for the e.

As with most sport blogs, when reading GBMW, I assume (despite all the NO SUGARCOAT claims of legitimacy and veracity) that GBMW isn't attempting some grand objective truth statement when they critique a players skills or athleticism and that their subjectivity is implied.

But maybe in trading the "e" for the "o" they intend to change the meaning? The distinction being that "epinions" are presented anonymously by people hiding behind some internet moniker (eppellation, elias?) who substitute their edentity for their authoritative physical identity, face, and name? And these epinions are therefore secondary opinions attributable to a secondary self? Do they mean to imply a separation between the self and the e-double? Does their use of epinion subvert and transgress the very (ironically prideful?) legitimacy of their own no nonsense, NO SUGARCOAT critiques?

Or is GBMW just written by ignorant ass clowns?

3 years 51 weeks ago All good choices

Tottenham Hotspur has truly aggravating management and coaching. It is not really the best run team, but they have good character, history, and a chance to do well because the team really is good just not Champions League quality. Cool fact (if your a literature nerd): takes name from character of Hotspur, based on Sir Henry Percy, of Shakespeare's Henry IV.

Arsenal is very good but they are perhaps the largest bandwagon team for any American newcomer to the EPL. They do very well, have an aggressive style, and are literally loaded with young talent (not just many of the best 18 year-olds, but many of the best 16 year-olds waiting behind them). They often lose their players to bigger clubs that can bid more, for example they're best player, Cesc Fabregeas, will probably leave soon.

3 years 51 weeks ago Alves & Bordeaux

It was a great ball movement and teamwork on that final goal. I literally went nuts; it was the most exciting sports moment I've seen in a while. And I agree that Alves' cross was quite nice, but he played poorly overall in the match. But really that goal, and the simultaneous elation it elicited from everyone in the bar, that is why you watch soccer. Simply beautiful.

And yea surprisingly enough I think Bordeaux might well win (Marseille still has a chance). The French league hasn't been that strong for a while now, and its too bad. Lyon has actually won 6 in a row, and Benzema is most likely on his way out so it could be even harder on them next year. Seems many Parisians are just waiting for Ribbery to sign with Barca to Champions League team for which to root. With Abidal and Henry they might not have many French players, but the ones they have start so they're a well liked club here.

3 years 51 weeks ago Barca supporter

Pretty worried after how much trouble Chelsea was for them. Chelsea played rough, but great defense, and took Messi out of both matches, no small feet. Man U has an even better defense, and with Abidal and Alves out things could get rough. Even though Abidal's red card was a joke, and Alves played like shit the last match. Puyol will return so the defense will be good, but not great.
I am eager to see the best two players in the world, Ronaldo and Messi, go at it. I think Messi is the greatest, and really want him to send Ronaldo home crying. Seriously is there a less likable international sports star than Cristiano?

Unfortunately, I would have to predict a Man U win in a low scoring contest. I will be surprised if there are over 3 goals total.

I like Barca because their style of play is beautiful. Its truly amazing to watch, especially with Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta. They always put out exciting, great teams to watch, and the Catalan pride runs strong.

I like PSG (Paris St. Germain) because I live in Paris, and I go to a their games occasionally.

I like Tottenham Hotspur because they have an awesome history, and they're not the GIANT bandwagon EPL teams that Man U, Arsenal, and Chelsea are. Plus they use a Shakespeare character's name. Too bad they played like shit for the first half of the season.

3 years 51 weeks ago Indiana

Antwaan Randle El was always fun to watch. Crazy athlete played Basketball and Baseball there too.

3 years 51 weeks ago Illini

I dont like Zook, but I like Juice Williams and Arelious Benn alright. And I liked the basketball squad with Deron Williams, Luther Head, and Dee Brown. And Magic Johnson at state vs. Bird was great.

3 years 51 weeks ago Ehhhh disagree kinda

Im fine with most guys who leave OSU for professional sports. I don't really hold their university against them, and general indifference is normally my reaction. But some players I just cannot bring myself to like after years of disdaining them. Ex: Laurinaitis, Troy Smith. Chris Wells will always bear the mark of his years destroying Michigan. Should he make it to the pros, Terrell Pryor will remind me for years to come of spurned love, what could have been, and what an asshole he is.

Oden doesn't really bear any such scar. He was only around for a year, and they were a lot better than Michigan in 05-06 (NIT runner up vs. NCAA runner up). However, getting an OSU player on a team I root for can be challenging. As a Yankees fan I want to like Swisher a lot: hes been playing pretty well and is a great character guy, but his OSU heritage still holds me back a little.

In Oden's case, I hope he gets over the injury hump. He's now missed 103/162 games, and I wish that on no one. And yea he has been kinda of a bust. It's true its early enough that there remains a chance and time for him to redeem himself and succeed, but for now he stinks of Sam Bowie.

3 years 51 weeks ago For you should know that

The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked: his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours. You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince; and yet it is nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment. It is to be ascribed to nothing else, that you did not go to hell the last night; that you were suffered to awake again in this world, after you closed your eyes to sleep. And there is no other reason to be given, why you have not dropped into hell since you arose in the morning, but that God's hand has held you up.

4 years 8 weeks ago wasnt super impressed with

wasnt super impressed with the Robinson hire, but it was a solid hire. If he brings d like he did at Texas obviously it would be great, but until then patiently waiting.

Liked Shafer when he was hired, could've seen him for another season, but i guess it just wasnt workin out with rrod, and not really sad to see him go. Blitz schemes could have been interesting to see developed though.

4 years 8 weeks ago oh you are correct sir

maybe a quick edit and no one else will ever notice, notably ironic considering my search skills apparently dont extend to dictionary.com, should have looked it over.

4 years 8 weeks ago i dont believe

i indicated anything quite so drastic Wolvin. What i want is improvement, as I said. (Re)climbing the ranks to the top is the goal, and yea obviously winning a national title would be great in the next 5 years or so. To do so we need to win more, but also recruiting better would help, and I think RRod will deliver on both. It is not entitlement, but great hope and enthusiasm, tempered by an honest look at our surroundings. Upon examination it is quite possible for Michigan to play with the very best of them, as we have in the past, and hopefully soon will again. Now recruiting with the very best of them, well thats a different goal that we may not have achieved recently (though admittedly we do pretty well), but one upon which I would like to improve as well. Truly rivaling the classes OSU brings in would be nice if only for bragging rights (its one of those nice little internal victories, snatchin a recruit from the heart of Ohio).

However, i see that i have not succinctly answered the post topic: i agree with Don, it is too early to tell. Dont take me the wrong way, I do not think RRod has done horribly given the circumstances, and i do not want to cast come black cloud over the current class or the program's direction. Indeed I do think the program heading up, after the somewhat static last years of Lloyd.

The mighty having temporarily fallen are not precluded from rising again, take our economy for instance (please god please god please god).

p.s. 1948, please dont impune my search skills so; wikipedia lies only two clicks away.

4 years 8 weeks ago #7 according to rivals only

#7 according to rivals only (to others out of top 10,even 15), and considering the sole dt and the class was decent. Im talking top 5 top 3 thats a goal. And look back at WVU he never did so great, recruiting was a general concern before his arrival. Hes done ok so far. And it is fair to compare Michigan to OSU and USC, they are traditional peers, but sadly current, but certainly not permanent (hopefully, not even longtime) betters. Lloyd, especially towards the end wasnt the best recruiter either, thats part of the problem. What i am talking about is being proud of the fact that YAY!!! we got a top 10 qb (not even nationwide mind you, just state wide) a few decent kids out of florida!!!, and we even convinced like one or two kids to take us over USC. Its complacent to pat oneself on the back for that, we can and I would certainly like us to do better. Lache is a good place to start, but as I said hopefully when the wins start coming thisll improve. My point is moving on up, back to the top a position rightfully desired for the winingest program ever.

the mallet warren part on kids from michigan, cuz they aint. typo my bad. instead treat them as the limited big time recruits we actually have landed

4 years 8 weeks ago reason for concern

Unlike some of you, I am a little worried. Rich Rodriguez has never been a fantastic recruiter, and the addition of Greg Robinson to the staff probably doesnt help too much. I believe some of our guys (Miller, Jackson) will move up in the rankings as the year goes on, but still I am tired of looking at the top 25 or so (the five stars) and seeing at most one Michigan commit. Compare that to the numerous USC, Florida, and even OSU commits, and we are coming up a little short. Furthermore, landing those uber talented kids in the top five or so IS beneficial, and obviously they can fit our (or practically any) system.

I agree that we gotta start winning games to make this happen.
There is little better exposure than playing in and winning major BCS bowls. Hopefully we put together some good seasons and the recruits start rolling in, but I am tired of the complacency we have in picking the scraps of Florida, OSU, and USC, Notre Dame, etc. offer lists. We land an occasional kid from the area who is big time (Campbell, Grady, Mallet, Warren), but Michigan needs to start lading some of the big time national recruits. Pryor was the closest weve been in a while, and I frankly doubt we were even that close.

That being said, I do not want to suggest Michigan should sink to Kiffin-eske levels of whoredom. I believe of course standards should be upheld, and institutional self respect valued. This is not impossible, Notre Dame does great, USC does incredibly well, as does Florida, and even Georgia pulls its weight, yet these schools retain their standards.
