Here are the top WRs from his previous stops by year.
2013 Alabama - Amari Cooper: 45 catches, 736 yards, 4 TDs
2012 Alabama - Amari Cooper: 58 catches, 999 yards, 11 TDs
2011 Washington - Jermaine Kearse: 47 catches, 699 yards, 7 TDs
2010 Washington - Jermaine Kearse: 63 catches, 1005 yards, 12 TDs
2009 Washington - Jermaine Kearse: 50 catches, 866 yards, 8 TDs
2008 Fresno State - Seyi Ajirotutu: 47 catches, 795 yards, 5 TDs
Also the highest % of catches of those WRs was 2010 Jermaine Kearse with 30.7% of his team's total catches. It seems Nussmeier's offenses spread the ball around a fair amount (being a one-back style coach generally has 3 WR and 1 TE on the field most of the time). The other years fluctuate from about 17% to 26%.
Expect Darboh, Chesson, Funchess and Butt to see a good number of targets their way. Unless Funchess turns into a target monster ala Gallon last year (~38% of team's total catches) the targets will probably be spread out a bit.

This was an interesting read and good stuff. My only thought is that total yardage might not be the best case to use when looking at balance and play call type might be better if that information is available (is that information easily available?).
I say this because a team can say run the ball few times but big breakaways could make it look like they got a ton of rushing yardage and were balanced when most of the game they ended up passing the ball.
Just a thought. Still was very cool to peruse the stats.

No that Scout article doesn't mention WR. Those I have inferred from info collected via 247Sports and ESPN. The article is VIP'd on 247Sports but it says something to the effect of Urban Meyer saying he could play offense and later on stating that Gareon is liking offense a lot.
I am not a sub on Scout so I couldn't read that article but the header and information I have gotten about the article is basically that his dad likes Michigan.

It says he was supposed to call the coaches tonight and discuss it. Scout has an article where Mr. Conley says he loves Michigan and it sounds like he would like his son to stick with Michigan.
So far I have heard nothing else of him talking to the coaches so nothing has changed yet.
Also of note, if he were to visit OSU, he will also visit Oregon. I actually think that Oregon is in better position than OSU because that is out near his mother (seems that for Oregon and OSU he would be playing on offense, while for us he would be playing on defense).

I think the hope was that Borges throughout last year learned what he could and couldn't do with Denard and ended the season on a high note (not inluding VT) with great games against OSU and Nebraska.
With that ending and another full offseason together I am sure people expected the offense to perform as well as it did in those games, especially with most of the offense returning.

It is interesting but I have a couple thoughts:
1. No Landry Jones in the Top 5 Pocket Passers

3. In his all college team, his whole defensive line is defensive ends. Not one defensive tackle.
Wonder why he did those, maybe oversights, maybe not.
At least it opens up my eyes to some new guys to watch for, i.e. some of the UNC players, or David Amerson for example.

|2 years 1 week ago||No all I mean is that the SAM||
No all I mean is that the SAM would drop into the Hot 3 zone where the WILL is supposed to go (or the MIKE in the adjusted one) and then you would blitz the WILL on the backside.
I don't mean leaving a hole in the middle of the field that caused everyone to have to shift to cover it and puts the SS or MIKE in the middle.
Edit: An example would be the SAM could line up with his hand on the ground showing rush and at the snap would run backwards into the zone while the WILL who looked like he would be in coverage would then come blitzing in.

I really don't know what else he can change. They came out guns blazing on offense because they were a goal down and determined to take it to Barcelona right away. Granted it took a while, but Barcelona was able to take advantage of that on the counter attack that was the 1st goal.
If he presses more that would just open up more holes defensively.

From reading Bucknuts after the Purdue loss, the people that went and sat close to the sideline were reporting that the players seemed indifferent to what was going on and had given up mentally. Now I don't expect that to happen seeing as this is The Game, but if coming out of halftime we can just shut them down I wouldn't be surprised to see their players check out mentally slowly.

|2 years 17 weeks ago||I think people want Urban||
I think people want Urban here because we have a good record against his teams. Not sure the record, but I know we beat his Florida team that had previous National Champion and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow at the helm.
There is probably some other stuff, maybe regarding the system he runs, or that he would probably not recruit Ohio as much as players from areas like Florida fit his systems better, but I honestly don't see him taking the job. He had a great gig at Florida and left because the stress gave him 2 near heart attacks I think. OSU isn't going to be a stress free situation, especially if he comes in before/during the hammer falls down on NCAA and he has to deal with sanctions.
As such I will wait until something is in writing. Besides this came out last week when asked about him returning to coaching:
Granted that is in regards to the PSU situation, but I think he is truly happy at ESPN where it is a relatively stress free job and he still gets to cover/discuss college football on a weekly basis.

|2 years 18 weeks ago||For me regarding Pharaoh||
For me regarding Pharaoh Brown at TE, I think he could be quite effective. Just look at how the Patriots have used Rob Gronkowski (6'6", 265 lbs. for those wondering). He has 42 catches for 596 yards and 6 touchdowns. He trails only Wes Welker by 1 yard for YPC average, and if you remove Welker's 99 yard td catch against the Dolphins, Gronkowski leads the team. He also trails Welker for total yardage, but has 30 fewer targets.
If we can use him as a big target over the middle that is fast enough to get by LBs but that draws the attention of safeties to open up the field for everyone else then I think having him as a TE can be extremely useful. Possibly moreso than him being at DE given the other DEs that we have coming in.

To me, and this is not speaking of any players, but just the idea in general, I don't really care for a blocking only TE. It tips your hat to the defense when you bring him in that you are going to rush the ball, and if not and the guy isn't a real threat in the passing game that allows the defense to blitz and almost ignore him.
To me I would much rather have a TE who is a passing threat more than a blocker, but that can also block so you don't have to rotate in and tip off what will happen

Yes that RB position is probably the most fluid we have in terms of what it could be. I think it is only a RB if it is Dunn. If not it is something else. Maybe opens up a spot for a DT so that we don't have to hope one of our DEs can bulk up to play the inside.
But I still think the two WR spots are WR only.

During the ND game we basically tried to shut Floyd down. While we couldn't stop him from gaining his yardage he never scored on us, and we basically made ND beat us with the other WRs for touchdowns which they did. Do you think this is the plan we use against Iowa to slow down McNutt? In that light, how good are the other Iowa WRs?
As for stopping Coker, do you think we use the 46 front that we used a couple times effectively against MSU? I know its weaknesses come when the opponents have an experienced QB that gets the ball out quickly, like Cousins did, but I don't know if Vandenberg is on that level.

Yea I didn't really think that was a time to storm the field. However they might think it could be the biggest win they will get all year and want to enjoy it.
I'll play devil's advocate here:
What if we beat OSU this year and the students rush the field. How would you feel about that? OSU would not be at the top of their game, but for us it would be the first victory over them since 2003 (last year left out). For the seniors it would be the first time they have seen an OSU victory (and they haven't seen a MSU victory either).
I know they are different situations, but just think about it.

I think another reason the system might be being used is that they think Devin at some point will surpass Denard as the starting QB so they want to see where they could move Denard to and have him be effective in that situation.

A) UCLA is terribad so that wasn't too hard to see coming for Arizona.
B) The game against ND was the 2nd game in a brand new system for most of the players. Sure we got shredded but it isn't like RR stocked our defense like an Alabama or LSU defense. The fact that we have made strides out of the territory of being one of the worst defenses in the nation is a good thing to have hope for the future. In my mind, judge Mattison fully when we hit year 2/3 and he has a solid amount of time and more players designed to what he wants to do.

|2 years 21 weeks ago||That may be true, but why not||
That may be true, but why not try and wow our recruits while they are at it? Nothing is set in stone till NSD, and they can show off MSU and all that jazz to our recruits. If then our recruits started being rude and bad mouthing them while on the visit you can ask them to leave and then their teammates would probably understand because they were being rude.
But straight up blocking them without seeing what they would do (who knows, they could be silent angels only there to support their teammates and wouldn't say anything bad) seems like a move with a more negative public outcome.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Ahh there it is. I missed it.||
Ahh there it is. I missed it. Hats off to you then.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Thing is it isn't like the||
Thing is it isn't like the recruits can only talk to each other when they see each other on campus. Similar to Kalis/Thomas talking to Dunn often about Michigan. With the ease of social networking today recruits can talk to each other all the time, and blocking them to try and prevent pro Michigan talk won't really work.
I think they just want to go to show support for their teammates. I see this only being a negative really by blocking them in that it now gives the players you blocked another bit of information when say talking to all the other teammates back at school.

|2 years 21 weeks ago||I think this bye week comes||
I think this bye week comes at the best time. It gives us two weeks for coaches to fix problems that were exposed against State. More importantly, it allows us to rest and heal up, which is probably really needed right now.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||The one thing that stands out||
The one thing that stands out to me is why he decommited from USC. In the WolverineNation blog it mentions something about his family being displeased with what has been happening at USC. So that shows that he values his family's opinion and his family cares about where he goes. I know I have read articles in the past that Hoke and some other coaches (Mattison notably) are very good guys and families usually love them.
If we can get him a visit on campus, especially with some family members coming then that could make an impact. Outside of that I don't see how we would have much a shot with him.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I think the most likely to||
I think the most likely to contribute right away would be Pipkins. I also hope that after another full year learning under Mattison and company that Campbell can fully hold down the DT position as a starter. As for the ends, especially SDE, I have no clue who we will see and if we see any freshmen contributors right away.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Well there were some small||
Well there were some small caveats in that I think one team's numbers were brought down significantly because they had a 250 lb. lineman or something like that.
I just think we are slightly undersized to run the Power that Hoke wants. Those small differences can make a huge difference, especially where you bulk up.
I guess it would be more fair to look at Michigan teams of the past to see a change. I'll go for the last pro style we had pre-RR which was 2007.
Jake Long - 313
Adam Kraus - 296
Justin Boren - 310
Alex Mitchell - 313
Mark Ortman - 297
That line averaged 305.8 and the lightest person among the backups was 292 with most everyone close to 300. I think this is the direction the coaches are trying to head back to, so that they can run the Power and I think recruiting shows some light in that:
Kyle Kalis - 305
Blake Bars - 275
Erik Magnuson - 275
Caleb Stacey - 280
Ben Braden - 319
Also if you look at possible remaining targets:
Zach Banner - 295
Jordan Diamond - 290
Joshua Garnett - 275
Now I know that weights will shift somewhat as they lose bad weight and put on good weight, but it seems that some of them can break the 300 mark. Granted, I don't know how all of this could work out, just trying to see if the information can show anything. It is all speculation now, but Hoke has said in the past he wants to return to Manball and starting in the trenches is the key to doing so.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Here you go||
Average weight per offensive lineman for each B1G team: (if anyone knows what each team runs and can add that in that would be appreciated)
Wisconsin - 322
Penn State - 304
Nebraska - 301
Northwestern - 301
Minnesota - 300
Ohio State - 299.6
Illinois - 299.2
Michigan - 297.6
Purdue - 295.8
Michigan State - 292.8
Iowa - 290.8
Indiana - 280.4
As you can see we are the 5th smallest offensive line in the B1G.
Links for each team's depth chart that I used since it was the best information I could find:

Penn State: http://bwi.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I picked Wisconsin because I||
I picked Wisconsin because I know that they are built to run the power set and will always be built in such a way for as long as Bielema (spelling?) is there. I don't know what else each team runs and whether or not those teams are built for a spread or a power formation.
Give me some time and I will bring up the average of the starting 5 for each team as listed on their rivals depth chart and I will make a ranking so that it is statistically fair. Sorry I was trying to make a quick response.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I think the not big enough||
I think the not big enough comes from the fact that they spent 3 years in RR's offense which favored faster offensive linemen. As such the strength programs they went through were probably different than what Wisconsin's linemen would go through in terms of favoring movement and lateral quickness over straight up bulk and being 300+.
Compare our offensive line to that of Wisconsin's, which builds their players for a pro type/power game. The weights of the players from MGoBlue.com and UWBadgers.com. (Note: I added Barnum since he is normally a starter)
Taylor Lewan - 302
Michael Schofield - 299
David Molk - 286
Patrick Omameh - 299
Mark Huyge - 302
Ricky Barnum - 292
18 31 29 16 38
Wisconsin's line: (forgive me if I have LG/RG or LT/RT swapped, I couldn't find who starts where)
Ricky Wagner - 320
Travis Frederick - 330
Peter Konz - 315
Kevin Zeitler - 315
Josh Oglesby - 330
You can also look at their backups where the lowest weight is their center at 305 and the highest weight is a tackle at 345.
So by this Wisconsin outweights us by 26.4 lbs. per offensive lineman. Those guys are built to be able to punish the guys across the line from you, whereas our guys are able to move quicker, especially on pulls (one area where Molk excels).
Its different ways that you can have your guys built, and right now we have spread type offensive linemen. Thus we are better at zone blocking than we are power blocking. It is just the fact that we are dealing with players built into RR's system and it takes more than one offseason weight program to change that.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I think both of them had bad||
I think both of them had bad mistakes, but Devin never had the chance to really get into a game rythm because we were always pulling him after 1-2 plays it seemed.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Sorry but I would rather lose||
Sorry but I would rather lose with class and dignity than win in the way that MSU did.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I just hope that the coaches||
I just hope that the coaches can learn from everything that went wrong today. We saw that in the ND game when Mattison called Cover 0 and got too cute we got burned for ND's final TD. That taught Mattison he didn't have the personnel to do a lot of complex NFL schemes, and he has done better with what he has.
I think Borges' cuteness moment was that 4th and 1 playcall. I still don't understand it but I hope he can turn it around going forward. This is now a big enough spread of what he has seen from everyone that he should be able to work some stuff out for the remaining games.
Lastly I hate Gholston.

That probably is true, still when it is 3 against 5 you think your o-line should be able to handle that and give the QB some time.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||Thing is the recievers were||
Thing is the recievers were open because State would blitz. Denard got absolutely no time to hit them thanks to the O-line and not taking advantage of the blitzes by changing playcalling. I don't think we ran a single screen pass.
It was a bad game overall. However now we get to see how the coaches and players respond to losing. They say you can learn a lot more by losing than you can winning, and both coaches and players can learn a hell of a lot from this loss. If we can rebound then we gain a positive from the loss. If we tail-spin then damn.

There was one play where they brought 3, I think it was the one that brought Gardner in on the final drive. The DE did a spin move on Lewan and he was gone. It was really bad.
|2 years 21 weeks ago||I disagree on the running||
I disagree on the running well, we had lots of runs with Vincent Smith being eaten alive for 2-3 yard losses, and the times we got beyond the line of scrimmage we didn't get much more. State did the same thing NW did in clamping down on the run forcing Denard to beat you passing. However his arm was unable to deal with the 35+ mph wind and that killed us.
