This is tangential, but I disagree with including Georgia on that list. Auburn will always be second fiddle to 'Bama, but Georgia has no excuse for not competing on 'Bama's level. They have the resources, the tradition, and the recruiting base to be competing for national championships, but Richt's teams have been perennial underachievers.

MSU has come damn close. This will probably come to be looked upon as the golden age of MSU athletics.
|2 days 9 hours ago||Beilein has been doing that||
Beilein has been doing that his entire career; it's not an aberration. Spike Albrecht's only other scholarship offer was Appalachian State, and now he would easily be a starting PG at a lot of Division I schools. Caris LeVert was an anonymous unrated 3-star, and he has a chance to be at least B1G player of the year if he returns. By the time Jordan Morgan left the program, he was far outperforming expectations. Beilein even did it at West Virginia with Kevin Pittsnogle and Mike Gansey.

Calipari has to be up there. Many of the other coaches mentioned in this thread flouted NCAA rules that don't make much sense anyway, but very few did anything that was immoral in an absolute sense. Calipari, on the other hand recruited a player whom he knew had cheated on his SATs (Derrick Rose).
EDIT: Forgot about Jim Harrick. That dude gave players A's in no-show classes.

The fact that Harbaugh kept Mattison probably indicates that he doesn't think the defense was the main problem.

I'm rooting for India, despite the fact that they are a bitter rival of the team I was rooting for (Pakistan).
I predict an India v. New Zealand final, but I don't see New Zealand winning it all, notwithstanding the fact that they put up almost 400 in the quarter-final. Guptill's 237 was a freak occurence.
|1 week 5 days ago||Thanks! Are the subsequent||
Are the subsequent rounds sort of like a seconday match program? Also, what are the most common reasons for not matching? Are the people who don't match the ones who aimed too high (e.g., applied only to neurosurgery residencies despite mediocre numbers)? Are they socially inept who couldn't hack it in their interviews? Or is it just the bottom of the class types?
|1 week 5 days ago||Interesting, thanks.Related||
Related question: how hard is it for DOs to get the most competitive residencies (surgery and the like)? If all else is equal between an MD and a DO candidate for such a residency (grades, board scores, interviews, etc), is the DO at a huge disadvantage? The other day, a family member was referred to a neurosurgeon who was a DO, but I wonder if that guy was like the four-leaf clover of neurosurgeons...

Excuse my ignorance (I'm just a caveman lawyer; your world frightens and confuses me), but what happens if you don't match? Is your career hosed, or can you just try again next year?
(Good luck and/or congrats to all the Michigan grads, BTW.)

I like night games. That's one of the few innovations of the Brandon era that I would like to see continue.

Well, my view of Hackett and Harbaugh is pretty much the opposite of my view of Brandon and Hoke, so if it's okay with the Jims, then it's okay with me.

Was that sign put up after they hired Hoke? Glad to see that phrase will be kept as part of the Lexicon.

In fairness, the wardrobe and dress code expectations for a corporate executive are a bit different from those of a football coach.

If you include non-calls, I would go with the missed illegal procedure penalty on the 1994 Colorado hail mary play.

Why? Because they beat us in a thriller? Because we couldn't stop Vince Young? Should we hate every team that beats us?
It's not like they're a major rival of Michigan. If anything, of all the blueblood college football programs, Texas is probably the one that's most similar to Michigan.

I live in the Bay Area and judging by how manny Ferraris I see on the freeway on a daily basis, I don't even think her point about Californians not splurging on luxury items to show off their wealth is accurate.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Keep in mind that property||
Keep in mind that property values in the Bay Area have skyrocketed (to put it mildly) over the past 20 years or so. It's likely that her parents bought their house when prices were reasonable and that they wouldn't be able to afford it if they had to buy it at its current market value (in California, property taxes are based on the price you paid for the home, not its current market value).

He should start a seminar series on how to get paid for doing nothing. He can sell a bunch of non-refundable tickets, and then not show up for any of the seminars. Then, when people call him and complain about him taking their money and not even showing up, he could say, "Exactly" and then hang up. Move to a new city and repeat.
|7 weeks 1 day ago||Another fun fact: he||
Another fun fact: he appointed more Supreme Court Justices (six) than any other one-term president in history. Because he himself was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after he left the White House, he ended up serving alongside some of the men whom he had appointed to the bench when he was president.
He also hated being president (which explains why his health improved so dramatically after he left the White House) and he was much more proud of his time as a Supreme Court justice. He considered his appointment to the Supreme Court the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and he later remarked, "I do not remember that I was ever president."
