The holding call on Lavert…

The holding call on Lavert was correct.  Does not matter when the ball was out since the pass was behind the line.  If pass is behind the line you can hit the receiver, ride then upfield, etc. since there us no DPI behind the line.  Officials are trained to give plenty of leeway.  Really the only thing you can't do is blatantly hold...which is what Hill did.

He was injured

He seperated his shoulder early in the year on an onside kick attempt and missed most of the season, thus the low number of attempts.

There is

ESPN Goal Line is the closest equivalent:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN_Goal_Line

The LJ had the correct mechanics

He held for second and had released because he read pass.  He is only supposed to be 5-10 yards downfield until the pass is away, and he was about 5-6.   Perhaps he could have gained a few more yards if he had sprinted after the ball was away, but he still would have been at least 10 yards away.  Still a hard call, but again I agree that the refs missed one.  A 6 or 7 man crew would have had a guy right on top of the play though.

Agree it was not a catch

But remember that there is no SJ in high school.  Corner of the endzone is a weak point in 5 man crews, and that is a VERY hard call to make in real time for a guy 15 yards away from the ball.

What cover would that be?

He's never been on Madden.  AP deserves it.  Besides, Barry was already on it once.

Couldn't snatch 135

So I just had 100 reps Rx.  Top at my box (Invictus in Holland) so far has been 150 reps.

Typically...

ND doesn't allow redshirts, so they won't be listed on their roster.  They require all players to graduate in four years, or at least attempt to.  The only time players will get a fifth year is if they enter grad school and happen to have a year of eligibilty left.

I used to check deals.woot

and all those other deal sites daily.  About a year ago I got a subsription to ESPN the magazine for $4/yr for 4 years.  Just saying, you can get a ridiculously good deal if you can find it.  I really don't even read the magazine but it is totally worth it for the insider articles.

I agree that he was MSU bound from the start

but he referred to a specific event and I am asking what that was.

About William Gholston

What did the coaching staff do to make him stop considering us.? If I remember correctly, Gholston himself referred to something in particular that the staff did that he did not like, saying something along the lines of "They know what they did".

Is it just me, or did food prices go way up this year?

Last week I went out and bought a mini pizza, a hotdog and  water.  I had a complete 'wtf' moment when she told me it was $19 total.  Her explanation was that "It was a really big hotdog", which was a bold face lie.

Avoid Lady Janes like the plague

By far the worst haircut of my life.  I asked for an inch off (was about 3 inches long) and she cut one side down to only about a centimeter left, then proceeded to spend 45 minutes trying to 'blend' my hair, aka hide her mistake.  I will not be returning.

FYI Brian

Demens is the one making the play in the second Hawthorne video, so you might have linked the wrong one mistakenly.  Granted, it does look like he shed his block rather well there and would have been in position to at least get an arm on the ball carrier.

It's funny

how many people are ripping this guy a new one when he is partially correct.  That garage in particular is free on Sundays, so no luck for the game unless you are planning on staying the night.  I lived across the street last year and would frequently park there on Sat. and then drive it out on Sun. so it was free.

Purdue Flyover

I would assume that is due to it being homecoming.

What do you expect them to say?

Remember, the usual killer of re-alignment deals is when people tip their hand too early.  While reveal your hand when you don't have to?  Yes, I realize that A&M has effectively tipped their hand, but it appears that the opposition that was previosuly there isn't going to do anything this time around, which may be why they might get away with it.

It isn't like the individual schools are going to come out and say "Well, since TAM left, we are going to try to leave as well".  I guarantee you though that all the schools are figuring out their options as we speak, including what conferences would take them.

As far as the list goes, why woulnd't ND top it?  They are the biggest fish in the sea, and you have to do your due diligence to see if they are interested.  I don't take this as arrogance as much as common sense.

I agree that there are issues

But by no means is it out of the question.

From a cultural stand-point, I would say Texas to the PAC-X would be in the same ballpark in terms of different mentalities.  I could be wrong here, but that is my opinion.  As we all recall, that marriage almost happened.

I agree that the biggest carrot for Texas is academics.  Inclusion in the CIC could mean tens or perhaps hundreds of millions more per year in research funding for Texas.  The CIC is huge money.  Travel costs are expensive, no doubt about that, but how much money would be made by having both Texas and ND in the conference?  I don't have the numbers, but I feel like the additional travel costs would be offset.

I don't have a response for your last point, because I would feel the same way if I personally were an atheltic director, but I am not and therefore do not have access to the information they have.  Like I said in my previous post, if both sides are committed, a deal could be worked out.

Not to mention legal issues

If you locked all teams not in those conferences out, you would get sued.  For that reason, it makes me wonder if the formation of 4 super conferences would be a prelude to those conferences breaking away from the NCAA to form their own league.  That eliminates all legal issues (I believe).

IF the super conferences happen, my ideal scenario for a playoff would be that each conference has 4 divisions, then there is a mini playoff within the conference between the 4 division winners, then the conference winners play each other for the championship.

It's happening

The whole SEC statement from this weekend was for two reasons: 1) Legally, they could get in trouble if they extended an invitation before A&M applied, and 2) It was a way to 'pump the brakes' so to speak, in that since everything broke last week, things have gotten incredibly hectic.  It gives A&M time to get their stuff in order, and if it hasn't already happened, it gives the SEC time to secure a 14th team.

If the regents have approved the president to explore and act on any potential conference changes, that should tell you all you need to know.  A university would not pubcilally acknowledge that unless they had an agreement in place beforehand.  I am not foolish enough to think there isn't still a chance everything could fall through, but I would be damned surprised if this didn't happen at this point.

As for the B10, I don't know if this has been posted already, but there was a rumor that OU, OkSt., and two other B12 teams (speculated to be Kansas and K St.) approached the B10 and were told no for academic reasons.  I suspect financially that move also doesn't work out for the B10, so no surprise that they were turned down.

Now this next bit is mostly pure speculation, but I suspect the B10 is talking behind the scenes to the big fish: Texas and ND.  I suspect ND is starting to realize that they could be left out to dry if they don't join a conference once the dominoes start to fall.  The logical choice is the B10.  I know a lot of people are saying that if Texas is to leave the B12, that the PAC 12 is probably the destination, but I can't help but think that if Texas wanted to be in the PAC, they would have been last year.  Again, I feel like the Big 10 is the logical choice.  The financial windfall both athletically and academically would be huge.  You can also bet that the B10 is selling the idea of adding both those teams to both Texas and ND.  Adding those two could be enough to get the BTN on every basic cable package in the nation, and that equates to huge $$$.

Again, these are just my thoughts on the whole thing.  I realize there are lot of things that could hold up adding those two teams (the LHN chief among them), but those things could be worked out if the parties are truly interested.  I don't know if the B10 would go beyond 14, though I suspect they would if the right candidates are there (say Oklahoma and Maryland/Syracuse/Mizzou?).  Either way, I'm sure the next few weeks will be very exciting beyond the usual buildup to kickoff.

I find it effective

to play man coverage (I usually run a 4-3 cover 2 man) and press the corners and bring the safeties both close.   When the corners are pressed they usually don't give up their ground, which either allows me to get their with my safety, or they turn the play back in to the middle.   I also user control the safety, in case you didn't get that.

With this strategy, you have to make sure you are good at reading run/pass/PA so you don't get fooled.  The nice thing though is that people who just constantly run to the outside tend to not be very good at other aspects of offense, and once you take away the outside run they usually struggle to move the ball.

Don't know if this has been posted yet

but just saw this on youtube, posted Monday.  Pretty solid job IMO.

Left the house for about 30 minutes

and it went off and back on sometime during that time.  Computer was off when I got back, and the clocks were reset.

Even better

Them not understanding it only makes it better

I don't really agree with the bad news

We offered over 200 and can only take a tenth of that, so we are going to have a 'losing record' against most teams.

I think most of the reduced hours were from last fall

At least from what I understood from that article, it seemed most of the reduced hours came during the season last fall.  I guess now that RR is done, that is probably for the best, but I'm sure someone will cry conspiracy theory.

I wouldn't say hopeful

But it moves it into the realm of possibilities.  If Kiel commits early like everyone things he will, who knows what 6 months+ of being in DGB's ear will lead to.

He is still currently in Ann Arbor

I've seen him a few times at Rush Street, looking as cocky as ever.

I have to clap my hands to Dorsey

That is one hell of a job spinning getting your ass kicked at home into something positive for State.

Fantastic News

If the PAC 12 can get $225 million/yr, what is the ceiling for the Big 10?  $300 million? more? It's gonna be a monster.

Gotta give props where they are due

+1 to Muschamp for putting integrity before winning

As a former Insomnia Employee

I can tell you that Insomnia Cookies is most definitely not unique to AA, and in fact was at State (among many other locations) before coming to AA.

The likely would install 10-15k temporary seats for the Vikes

However, as a Vikings fan it is pretty clear what this is; a last ditch effort to get a new Stadium Built.  A new roof for the Metrodome would likely cost $12-$15 million.  I have to believe that between adding temporary seats, making the field usable in Dec. and/or January (hopefully late Jan., ahh who am I kidding, no chance of that), making the concessions and bathrooms usable in cold weather and, if they are allowed, installing alcohol distribution equipment, the total cost would be similar to the new roof.  The would also likely pay the University to use the stadium and take a loss from having less seats, even with the temporary seats.

In the end though, what message does it send if you pump over $10 million into the Metrodome only to abandon it a few years later, and potentially demolish it at that point.  If they put that money into the Dome, there is no way a bill for a stadium gets passed.  They are going to do everything in their power to avoid playing at the Dome in hopes of getting that new stadium, or they will be in LA by 2015.

Besides the Joe Webb things, I agree with your reasoning

First, it was widely speculated that Favre was going to be starting from early Monday morning on.

However, they also weren't guaranteeing seats for all ticket holders, which definitely factored into peoples decisions.  I realize there were extra seats in the end, but its not hard to see why people would take a full refund on their tickets rather than show up at the stadium at 4pm in hopes of getting a seat, then sitting there for 3+ hours in the cold waiting for the game to start.  You are correct though that the waiting issue would not have been as big of a deal if alcohol would have been available.

Bonus

After poking around their website, I discovered that Pentagram worked extensively on the extremely successful U.S. bid for the 2018/22 World Cup.  Keep up the good work boys!

Diane Brie (sp?) - ME350

When midterm evaluations came around and the entire class roasted her in them, she came to the following class and told everyone that she didn't care what people's opinions of her were because 'she was going to get paid either way'.  Also told the class in the first lecture that she would love nothing more than for everyone to get an A, so she could go to the department head and argue that we all deserved top marks.  With two weeks to go in the semester, around 2/3rds of the class were in line to get A's, and we were informed by the gsis that because two many people had high grades the final was going to be extremely difficult as to knock down the grades of many people.

Also, every concept we discussed (gears, levers, springs, etc.) somehow was related to a story about her kids.

If you read his power rankings on a regular basis

he makes it very clear that his power rankings are NOT a list of what he sees as the best teams in the league numbered 1 through 11.  The rankings are almost solely based on the previous week, maybe two, of games, not the entire season.  With that in mind, I think it is entirely reasonable to have Mich that low since we barely deserved to be on the same field as Wisco last Sat.

He doesn't hide it

He distracts you with the hair and your eyes never leave his head.

If that is you

I was in your discussion section fall of 09.  That is the only class I could think of where you would teach about Michigan AD's, and I remember you said you were a Louisville fan (went to undergrad there as well I think).  I was the kid who was taking the class independent study and had to write two papers.  I think the one I wrote for you was about the freshman eligibility rule.

MGoCards

This is actually serious.  I don't want to say what I think your name is, but do you have dreads and were a gsi for Bacon?

This isn't an apples to apples comparison

Yes, Illinois beat Indiana pretty convincingly while we just got by, but its not as simple as that when it comes to our game.  I won't pretend to be an expert on Illinois, but I believe their QB doesn't like to go downfield much and often won't take shots even when they are there.  I'm not talking long bombs either, I mean the digs and posts and corner routes often get over looked for the crossing routes.  Yes I realize nothing involving the ball traveling through the air is a strength for our defense, but I believe we can get some stops with their mindset.

What does worry me is how Illinois was able to keep MSU's running game in check.  Denard is a whole different animal, but their run D is sound.  That may be the key to they game.

Joe Tiller, not Danny Hope

An acceptable mistake though since they are both rockin' the stache.  Give it 15 years, take away the hair, add a few more pounds, and they could be brothers.

See article

http://michigantoday.umich.edu/2010/09/story.php?id=7865

Yost originally wanted to build a 140,000 seat stadium, but settled for a capacity of 70,000 with 15,000 temporary bleachers and—crucially—room to expand. They installed 22 miles of California redwood for the seats, and planted a single four-leaf clover for good luck.

Though most fields ran east-west at the time, Yost designed Michigan Stadium to run north-south. This kept the sun out of the players' eyes and the fall winds to a minimum. Today, all football fields do it Yost's way. He also had the foresight to install footings for a second deck, and, incredibly, to make eight large conduits in the cement to handle the wiring necessary for electronic media.

That's probably the best I can give you short of going to the Bentley and scouring through the old records.

I see what you are saying

but you are missing his point.  He is saying that high prices on the open market leads one to believe that the demand is high for the set supply of tickets.  Therefore, there is room to increase the supply without the demand falling to the point that tickets will not be bought.

I thought the same thing

I think it would be absolutely awesome if they added a second level behind both endzones, kind of 'completing' the upper bowl that the boxes have started.  I would think that this would easily ad another 20k-30k in seats, and the noise level on the field would be absolutely insane.

Anyone with a student ID or willing to validate

I've seen tickets going as low as $10 in the Student Section.  Scour the interwebs, and please buy them so the Student Section is at 50% capacity.

He is fast

but they aren't going to have a starter sacrifice time with the 1's to go with the scout team.  If there ever was an exception though, it would be this.

double post

my bad

I would pass if I were you

Its going to be roudy, its going to be loud, and there is almost no chance you will have your entire seat available to you.  You'll be standing, likely facing sideways, and crammed into a very small space. I don't think they are in any physical danger (after scoreing celebrations not withstanding, watch out for people getting picked up around you) but you likely will not be very comfortable.
