Really wish Harbaugh would continue to go after mobile quarterbacks.
I am sure Bailey is a great passer, but after this year and seeing how much a mobile QB has helped our running game I dont ever want to go away from that.
I think the arc block is a read itself by the H-back rather than a set call. If the EMLOS crashes arc around and seal. If he shuffles wham him to open up backside gap.
This is Valenti's schtick. Down play Mich opponents so if we win big, its nothing to see here. And if we lose he can bash Michigan all week on air. Been doing that for a long time.
McSorley is more than solid. He is an outstanding college quarterback.
And yes the right system coupled with some playmakers can hide bad oline play. When Penn State won the Big Ten 2 years ago they had one of the worst offensive lines I had ever seen.
Keep telling yourself this buddy. OSU is an elite offensive team that is rarely slowed or stopped even by very good college defenses. Clemson is the only team ever to really stop them.
Harbaughs offense has not even been close to elite. How many years should it take to build this? And why in the fuck should we run an offense that is so complicated that it takes upperclassmen in every position to succeed.
Lets not act like going 8-4 at michigan is some tall task. Michigan, when playing well, can out recruit 90 percent of its competition. Harbaughs offense stinks, there are dozens of coaches who could take our players and put a better offense on the field than he currently is.
Harbaugh is being paid as if he is one of the top 3 coaches in the country. He has to do better than this. When is Michigan going to realize its not 1970 anymore and open up the fucking offense.
I was initially thrilled with Harbaugh hire and thought he would be fantastic. 3 years later and we still have not beat OSU , choked twice against MSU, and had one of the worst offenses in all of cfb this year.
Jesus. This fan base is ridiculous that because Rich Rod failed the spread wont work here. Dude 95% of cfb teams are running some version of a spread.
Look at how the system change transformed PSU
I went and watched Belleville vs Salem in the playoffs this year. I went to Salem and wanted to see the highly touted Devontae Dobbs play. To my amateur eye that kid is massively overrated. There is no way that kid is close to the number 1 tackle in the country.
How so? Playing a true freshman at guard. Prince was JBB level at pass blocking. A bunch of converted high school runningbacks playing receiver. A QB who struggles to read defenses and holds the ball to long. Mike Weber at runningback, who is just a decent player.
So with a bad offensive line, shaky QB play, receivers who struggle to get seperation, and unimaginative play calling OSU goes 11-1 and to the playoff in 2016. We go 8-4 and have literally one of the worst offenses in the country. Not trying to be a debbie downer here, but maybe we should drop this prostyle dinosaur offense, and move to something our kids can execute.
This program is entitled. They play with no edge. No chip on their shoulders. Nobody ever makes plays when they need them.
Starting to wonder if Harbaugh will get it done here. Makes me sad to even think that.
Don't you think it is being a little too homerish to have given Winovich and Gary shields?
Winovich is a good player but has been really quiet for weeks now and is definately not a 1st round talent.
While Gary has all the physical tools the production isnt there yet to warrant the shield.
Hurst is a monster and deserves two shields!
Agree completely!
Just trying to push a narrative. So a guy who didnt start until his 5th year is certainly going to be better than ascending young players.
Onwenu
Cole
Bredeson
Kugler
Jbb
Thats the pecking order this year imo
Appreciate all the hard work those guys did at Michigan. NFL or not those are not top flight offensive lineman.
Remember we are trying to compete with the Ohio States of the world. We need guys who get drafted in the top rounds to do that.
I said a bigger ATHLETIC oline is better than a smaller ATHLETIC oline. I am not saying sacrifice athleticism for size.
What i am trying to say is that i believe the guys harbaugh has recruited are more athletic than the guys Hoke recruited. When i mean athletic for an olinemen I mean knee bend, balance, foot speed etc. Many of them also have great size. We have a good mix of options.
I honestly believe in 2 years time Michigan will have one of the best offensive lines in the country. Onwenu is ascending rapidly. Bredeson will at least be solid as an upperclassmen. We have Ruiz who should be good. And best of all we have tons of options for the tackle position. Newsome, Hudson, horningford, stueber, Filiaga, Hall.
All of these recruits have a way higher ceiling than the Hoke recruits. No offense to Kalis and Magnusson but those guys were barely 300 pounds soaking wet. Braden was big but a waist bender with terrible balance. The entire 2013 oline class was a bust including Kugler who is nothing but a stop gap athletically limitted center.
The guys Harbaugh are recruiting have size and athleticism.
Onwenu is a beast. Funny alot of people here were trashing him earlier in the year. Saying he is too fat. Too slow.
Even at his size he is our most athletic olineman.
And just to be clear why spreads hide poor blocking upfront, when you consistenly have 3 or 4 wide recievers on the field only 4-6 blocks in the box have to be executed to have a successful run play vs the 7-9 blocks that have to executed in a man ball system
Its pretty simple really. PSU has a few very good upperclassmen offensive skill players. But the biggest factor by far was that Franklin went out and hired an OC that ran a system that would cover up poor oline play(psu had a horrendous oline when they were going prostyle with hackenberg). There is a reason 90% of CFB teams are running some version of a spread offense.

I agree. 2016 defense was much stronger at D tackle, and in the secondary.
Lol sure dude...Onwenu is not losing his job to a true freshman. He is a mauler.
So against Ohio State he can line up under center and hand off to fullbacks?
Shea just needs to bring his A game in the shoe. Beat the buckeyes, win the B1G championship, and go make your money kid.

Not confident at all that we will be able to score enough to beat Penn State
Roll Tide Roll!
Agree to disagree.
