If you want some tactical background:
For entertaining stuff on USMNT:
Both of those are high quality. Shin Guardian guys are great. Zonal Marking will be a bit more global, and they'll look at top matches from around the world during the regular season.
For generic newsfeed of anything US/MLS soccer, plus big news from around the world:
It won't give you great insight, but it'll give you news and updates on US players every weekend.
There's about to be a slight lull in the soccer world. MLS is the only "major" league playing right now. Most European teams are starting training this week. The transfer market is about to get a bit busier after the World Cup. I will always suggest checking out SB Nation's soccer blogs as well. If you have a local MLS team, most are covered really well.

I spent a few days in Brussels in January. You're talking Belgian beer, waffles, and chocolates. It was fantastic.
t's a bit less traveled by tourist, but the history and open-ness was nice. I didn't have to wade through several hundred tourists to see the cathedral in town. They have nearly 2 dozen museums that are really cool.
Brussels is the home to the European Union, so it's west side has a bit more modern feel to it, but the downtown/central district was really rather cool.

Despite going 4 centerbacks across, the Belgium wide centerbacks are much more adept to going forward. Vertohngen played left back for about half the season at Tottenham this year, and despite reportedly hating to play there, the guy can handel the ball on the dribble, the pass, and the cross.

We haven't seen him tested there... maybe ever? Sure his speed doesn't keep up with the Jones, but the guy has been damn quality when he has played.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Allow me to clarify||
There's no way I'd see him as a CDM. I meant as a LM to replace Bedoya late in games.
Because yes, Davis as CDM would be retarded.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||I'm not happy with the Jones experiment yet.||
It's easy to look good at CDM when the other team is parking the bus. Not enough solid data yet.
I think a lot of people give Brad Davis too little credit. He doesn't have the fast speed, but his positioning generally can make up for it. I don't think he's a great left winger for the international level, but he offers outstanding service and he works hard when on the field. I think we continue to see Bedoya on the left, then depending the style of game, either Johansson or Davis come in as a super sub. Johansson in flowing games, Davis as a set piece specialist in a slower game.
My biggest concern is playing out of the 4-4-2 with diamond midfield. This gets played narrow to clog the midfield with most teams playing 5 midfielders. From what I saw last night, they didn't play very narrow (partially due to the parked bus), and that hasn't really been our game during the Klinsmann era. So are we spacing out our formation to allow our own width to push forward while also exposing ourselves to the top quality wingers we'll be facing in Portugal and German? That seems dangerous enough.

Because I agree they should go to the NCAA model as well. If we were a stronger league top to bottom, maybe an 8 team tourney would make sense as a middle table team could conceivable compete in a regional if they were to win (like a 4-6th place SEC team). A 4-6 seed in the B1G would likely be murdered.
I agree completely; you shouldn't be in the tournament unless you expect to compete in the NCAA.

I hate this format. They have two 4 team brackets playing double elimination, EXCEPT, instead of facing the loser from your bracket possibly again, you get the loser from the other bracket, then a one off winner take all. If you lose in the first round, it's 6 games in 5 days to win it all. That's ludicrous for a college team.
|24 weeks 18 hours ago||Nationally, there area few||
Nationally, there area few big softball programs in the north, notably Michigan and Northwestern. Baseball is not so much. No team north of Tennessee and East of the Pacific Northwest tends to stay good long any more. Occasionally Louisville or Kentucky have a couple good seasons in a row, but in baseball, those are considered northern teams as well.
I can't explain it in great detail, but I would bet it has to do with quality of pitching. Because the way a baseball is thrown, cold weather is more detrimental. The same thing applies with softball starting pitchers throwing nearly every game where baseball is once a week. The best pitching stays in the south. You want to play where the best competition is to be drafted, so better hitters stay there. That and it's just warmer during the season down there. You also don't have to worry about hectic travel schedules during the school year, so academically, it could be beneficial to play at a place like LSU that only leaves the state of Louisiana when the SEC makes them play road games..
This is probably way over simplified though.

They dropped their team in 1991. I want to say it was Title IX related, or at least they claim Title IX (along with baseball being one of the most expensive sports per athelete) has kept them from starting the team back up.
Wisconsin wasn't particularly good historically. They did well in the 40s-50s and a brief blip in the 70s. Minnesota on the other had has historically been a strong program in the B1G. Wisconsin-Milwaukee does have a team in the Horizon League, although they have been threatened with closing the program as well in the last decade.

Its one of the few Texas metros they havent. They've played in Huntsville & Lubbock recently. I'd consider San Marcos to be the Austin/San Antonio loop. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to schedule UT-Arlington sometime soon. They're a solid program over the last 10 years.
That said, with the number of California players on the roster, I think Texas may be phasing off the schedule soon. It's been a few seasons since we had multiple Texas players on the roster, and historically, we've scheduled where we have more players so they can play in front of family.

5. Outs (not really necessary with rolling game clock)
No huddling. Plays are called by numbers. Each digit represents a WR going right to left.
"13-31" yelled "THIRTEEN-THIRTY ONE" = Outside WR deep, inside slants. All OL are dump off passes/flats. This would work if a team is stupid enough to run zone as it uses the curl(WR)/flats(OL) play with an extra set of deep routes. I also suggest "13-32" for this situation if your QB has a decent arm.
"14-31" = Outside WR deep, inside left slants, inside right crosses, All OL are dump offs. This would be better against man as you have your deep routes clearing out any help and gives a cross toward a right handed QB's natural roll out side.
I also like the "11-11" as a screen play to the OL. Clears out all the coverage and leaves you with the less athletic pass rushers to defend close up.
For defense, if the QB can't run unless rushed, don't rush. Play blanket man with one safety. QB won't be able to run and you theoretically could have everyone covered. Free safety shadows the QB, but doesn't have to be the deepest guy on the field. They should probably stay middle of the field as you probably won't face a QB with an arm that keeps you from providing help deep.

But it's fine. He's the reason OSU can't sustain a lot of momentum right now. Ohio isn't a bad baseball state as far as recruiting goes. Kent State has won quite a few recruiting battles with OSU the last few years.

My way of moderating is go down long threads, look for a long string of replies, then look for people who were negged or pos'd in large amounts. If either said something that was ad hominem or insulting, I throw them a -1000 bomb. Unless it's an obvious joke, of course.
It's not the best filter, but it's generally effective as a warning system. Like you said, otherwise I'd have way too much work to do.
I'm not sure which CC thread the particular one you received yours for, but I'd bet it was somewhere in the CC: for pro-RR camp thread. There were about 7 or 8 tossed in there.

|3 years 29 weeks ago||There's at least one mod for||
There's at least one mod for keeping RR, if only because on the day he was hired, I shrugged and said, we'll see after 4 years. It's my belief, however clouded in the dream of amateur athletics it may be, that anyone coming in as a college coach should get to graduate at least one class of his recruits. Cradle to grave with his own players, let him sort out his legacy.
I wasn't overly excited by the hire early, but I wasn't disappointed with it. It offered an out from the cronyism that lurked in the back of the program. It revolutionized Michigan's strength and conditioning. It brought at least a flare back to the program that I think had been missing in the last few seasons under Carr. Michigan was slowly slipping from the national scene, but stayed afloat due to perennial BCS bowl/OSU losses. Getting to the game in decent shape is good, but not good enough.
Rodriguez put Michigan back in the spotlight, unfortunately the limelight ended up being ripe with negative press and team struggles. It left a sour taste in some mouths, others it just left a depressing feeling always in the back of their mind.
Despite that, I still think integrity of college athletics warrants the cradle to grave. The re-evaluation process publicized by Brandon was poorly executed. I think this was the wrong year for that type of talk. By specifically stating that evaluations would happen this year, Brandon has left him a place, especially in today's MSM culture of demanding people fired for underperforming (see Maryland, WVU, UM under Carr, etc), that any use of evaluation automatically warrants negative consequences.
By stating there would be a re-evaluation, Brandon took the choice out of his hands and gave it to the general public. I strongly believe the public is nothing but a mob when left in those situations. See every Simpson's satire of public opinion.
So yeah, I think if anything, Brandon has been the biggest disappointment of the Rodriguez tenure. In my Don Quixote-esque world of moral values and integrity, I think Rodriguez should have had his 4th year. In the OMG WE MUST WIN EVERY GAME OR SOMEONE WILL CALL FOR SOMEONE TO BE FIRED world, I'll admit, Rodriguez should probably step out. I'll also admit, sure, progress wasn't as it was hyped, and therefore he's not living up the initial expectations.
I've finally at least reached the skeptical reaches. Rodriguez has struggled with big games (Pitt at WVU for example) for some time. With Michigan, he's continued that streak and it's obvious that Michigan fans have trouble with that. It would take a great leap of faith for me to believe that will change next season either, but I'm stuck in that idealist mindset where if you give the reigns over to someone, you let them at least finish with one full cycle of players.
If, and probably when Rodriguez is fired, I'll be more disappointed with college football's inevitable transition into a more professional game, where winning and more appropriately, profits driven by winning are the only thing that matter.

|3 years 29 weeks ago||I don't know. I'm one to||
I don't know. I'm one to think you play to win now. One in the hand is worth two in the bush style. There's no guarantee that DG will be here in 3 years. He could bolt with a coaching change. He could get injured. Our team could really suck in 3-4 years.
No one wants to think about it like that, but you play with what you have, and you play to win. These kids, including DG, came to play. You let them play, even if it means just the few snaps. They are here to help the team win games. This is where they are needed. This is where they should play.
I understand the fan perspective of saving players to be used more efficiently, but putting in a walk-on who isn't particularly built for our offense, nor was heavily recruited, is the equivalent of quitting. Even if it's for one snap, it's quitting.
You're resigning that this game means nothing. You might as well not even watch it then. It apparently means nothing to you.
I don't work that way. I don't think most of the people here work that way. We want to see Michigan win. We want to see Michigan give everything they've got.
I can understand fans' patience and impatience with long term results, but the short term goal is always WIN. If you don't win now, that jeopardizes the long term goals, regardless of which coach is at the helm.
As far as depth, I'm not worried if DG stays through a coaching change. That's all rampant speculation. We don't know that Denard would leave. We don't know that the next head coach would call plays to his current players strong suits. There's so many "what-ifs" that I'm just not worried about it.

|3 years 29 weeks ago||I don't understand this||
I don't understand this thinking. I want Michigan to win. I don't want to have Denard have to miss time and our team to put a 2008-esque quarterback on the field. That would make the game that much more unbearable.
I want RR not to give up, that will just lead the team to givng up. I want him to win. I want him to want to win. Putting his best players on the field is how you win. If Denard has to come out, you put your best players on the field. Even if it's only for a few plays, you have to use him.
Gardner has 3 more seasons to try and get another redshirt season. If Denard and Tate can cover all or most (although I would never hope for an injury) of next year, a red shirt is still possible.

I'm agreeing with SJUBlue. Donovan's goal was "a moment," as Dynamo Theory (Houston Dynamo on SBNation) so very well described it in a post earlier this week. Nothing has felt as special to me this season. No Denard clip, no NFL (especially as a Texans fan), and no NCAA tourney play held a candle to the call of the goal. Even the perfect (and near perfect) games, the no-hitters - they were close, but they weren't moments that gripe you as a fan.

The whole thread was devolving into women can't call sports discussion without consideration to anything logical or non-stereotypical. Even the OP was "I'm not going to be sexist but I'm going there" (very loosely paraphrased), which opened it up to some of the more juvenile things below. While I don't catch every juvenile post, OP's that lead to many juvenile responses that I do catch get similar treatment. Ones who blatantly troll for stupid tend to get MUCH bigger deductions.
The 1000pt drop was more as a note that "hey, leaving an opened ended outlet for juvenile sexism isn't a good idea." I did only 1000 because you have plenty of points that it's not going to affect your ability to do anything. You still have a lot of points, and people that recognize your handle/picture will still hold you in... uh... regard.
Had you been someone with less than 1000 pts, you probably would had been dropped half your points so it still wouldn't affect your ability to post, but still grabbed your attention on the note. That's just how I deliver notes: a minor point deduction that doesn't affect your ability to post.
Summary: it was about how your phrasing opened it up to many juvenile comments. Point deduction was just to relay that message without affecting your e-status.

Semi-finals in 1-week playoff set. I needed Vick to get injured in the first few minutes, then the Eagles to win by about 30. That's not going to happen, just because with the points Vick has already, I'd need the Eagles to score at least 60 and not give up another score.
The other league has 2-week playoffs sets where I'm in the finals. The guy started Maurice Jones-Drew, but he still managed to post up 15 more points than me due to my team having a fluke terrible week. Boldin, Tony Gonzalez, and the Jets defense were all no-shows this week. Even Phillip Rivers, Darren McFadden, and Bironas all had off weeks. Scored less than half my average week.
