Did you see the touchdown…

Did you see the touchdown run in the Fourth Quarter? 'Cause that was pretty.

Yes, but...

...how is he related to Peter Francis Geraci?

You Guys I'm at a bar in Chicago and these ladies offered to share their rice crispy treat fondu desert with me! There are dipping sauces and a skewer I can use to poke my eyes out!
UGH

Man, I know you think you sound brilliant right now, but you sound SUPER lame.

Not to say you are super lame.  I'm sure you're a perfectly nice person in the real world.  But pretty much everything you've said on this thread has come off as really pretentious and critical.

Maybe next time, instead of "you're trying too hard" and making everyone guess what it is you mean, you say something like "Really?  Anothing Nick Saban joke?  Can we get some fresh jokes around here?"

Or, like, whatever that would be in Latin.

I hadn't heard of using urban

I hadn't heard of using urban farming as a solution to blight, which is actually pretty intriguing to me.

You guys are right, though.  We're essentially talking about regrowing a city, and no city starts out at 140 square miles.  For services to operate properly, the population needs to be consolidated and there's not really an easy way to do that.

What they need - which has been said earlier - are people and jobs, which provides revenue which means they can start paying for things again.  The nice thing is there have been signs of progress made there in midtown, downtown and a couple of other places.  To me, what inspires the most optimism are things like the Riverfront projects or the Marche du Nain Rouge (which is a lot of fun if you've never been.  I was in town this year for the Marche, stayed in a hotel on the riverfront, walked everywhere I needed to go and had a great time while I was at it.)

If Detroit can get the city government to a point where it can function and stay out of the way, I think the city has a good chance of attracting more people and becoming something unique.  I don't think it will ever be Chicago or New York, but hopefully it can at least be Detroit.

Detroit: A Biography...

On an tenuously related note...

...I'm going to be in Grand Rapids on Saturday.  Anyone have a sports bar they love or recommend there for UM/Mass watching purposes?

Oh, also, BWW over Skeeps.  I second the Arena though.

I give this five 'YIKES' out of a possible five for tastelessness.

Not your 'guy,' dude.

Agreed

A phenomenal piece of comedic writing, that.

Architecture

I like it quite a bit, and actually do notice it when I think about quality of life.

Hey, if you don't want to live in Detroit then that's fine.  I'm not trying to tell anyone how or where to live their lives.  I just hate the perception that Detroit is this horrible godforsaken place, and I don't think people should be so afraid to live in the city.  While you definitely lose in comfort and consistency, there's a lot to love about the city too.

"Isn't Very Nice Looking?"

Yes, I've seen the ruin porn.  That said, we're talking about the home of a great many Albert Kahn buildings and some phenomenal architecture...

Yeah, But...

...people act like that sort of stuff only ever happens in the miserable hellhole that is Detroit.  I also have a lengthly list of Chicagoans that have had their cars stolen, broken into or been mugged and that's just near where I work.  I'm not saying Detroit is a safe-haven or paradise - crime is certainly a problem there - but I think people can live relatively safely with some basic streetsmarts.  I know a couple of people who seem to be doing all right there.

Speaking of Ann Arbor, I also had a DVD player and a bike stolen out of my apartment on separate occasions; a friend of mine had an X-box swiped as well and another had his car broken into.  Just saying.

People Talk About Detroit...

...like it's some sort of apocalyptic wasteland where you are 1000% guaranteed to have all of your earthly possessions stolen.

I live in Chicago now, but if I were to ever move back to the mitt I would probably move to Midtown.  My sister lives there near Wayne State and loves it.  I don't know what it would be like to raise a family there and I'm not going to begrudge anyone living in the suburbs, but if you're young, aware of your surroundings, and enjoy city living then that's the place for you.  There's a vibrant music and arts scene, some great restaurants and bars, the riverfront and the new bike paths, the stadiums and campus martius, and a sense that people are really trying to make things better.  I think it would be great to be part of that.

Completely Agree

I agree that 'intent' is not the issue.  The issue should be whether or not it was, in fact, objectively funny.  It doesn't matter if he was trying to be funny.  If it was not actually funny, then he should be charged for a crime.

Judging by the fact that Big Will was arrested, I would say he was not funny enough in his attempt to slide across the hood of a car.  Which in and of itself is a crime: wasting the endless comic possibilities of a drunk 300lb manchild playing Dukes of Hazard.

So, as you can see, we are in complete and total agreement.

Yes

Hopefully the SEALs taught him the proper way to slide across the roof of a car.

They could sell black

They could sell black eyeliner and nail polish in the stadium!  This should really help the brand appeal to that largely untapped Depressed demographic.

Hard not to love this guy.
