I don’t know the exact…

It was a “conditioning” activity instead of a practice, which is allowed per NCAA rules.  The players were not padded, didn’t wear helmets, and each position group was running through non-contact drills such as the ropes, cutting drills, step over bags, etc.

Thanks, XM. Posting from my…

Thanks, XM. Posting from my iPhone was a little convoluted, but I essentially had to save the pics off Twitter to my camera role. The same pics were taken on my iPhone, but it apparently wasn’t the correct format (JPEG).  Someone else could probably give a better step-by-step process, but the preview option became my best friend for a bit.

You have the correct play,…

EDIT:  Nevermind, the ball was caught behind the LOS. It was a legal play.

I think...

that BWC is a hole plugger at this point.  Anything on top of that would be an obvious bonus.

I actually believe...

that it is the system.  Having 6 box players is not enough in the B1G on most Saturdays.   Even if you move one of the back 5 into the box, you are usually still lacking a DL or ILB with the strength necessary.

I know it is the NFL, but look at body types of Steelers vs. 2010 Mich D.  When Mich would move a kid into the box from the back 5 it was a Kovacs (195 lbs.) type.  In a 3-4 you are looking at a Woodley type or in a 4-3 that is a 270-300 lber.  Or in BWC case, 345 lbs.

My Theory....

O$U is what it is and always will be.

O$U...

What  joke.  2 Games???? Seriously, it certainly fits the expectation.

Considering...

the lack of true DL, this is probably a good idea.

Shhhhhh...

if everyone ignores that comment it might go away!

Do we really....

expect anything to come of this?  I believe it when i see it.

3-3-5 Should never....

be the base defense for a team in the B1G.  A change of pace on obvious passing downs is a different story.

I hope...

we can see the CRoh of two years ago instead of last years.  The kid seamed like a beast and should have a good year.

Not a big deal...

In due time my friends...in due time.

Maize =

A bold, arrogant yellow.  Yes please!

SHOCKED!!!!

Absolutely shocked that a team that chants "Don't give a damn bout the whole state of Michigan" could do something like this.

I thought they had more class and integrity.

Yup

Good call guys on the ship thing.  I like the slogan, but the picture could be better.

Negative Nancy...

I really hate to sound like Negative Nancy, however, the best part of this season has been exceeding expectations.  Seriously, I wondered how they would get to 10 wins let alone on the brink of an NCAA Bid.  Talk about top 25 makes me nervous.  I'm kinda paranoid that way, but doesn't mean others should be as well.

Not sure, but...

I kind of took the "not sure if some even know how to turn on a projector" as stuff they should be doing on their own.

I could be totally off base, but why would a player need to know how to turn on a projector if coaches were there to do it?

I posted this..

Last night, when I returned home, I posted this exact info last night.  The moderator, Tom Beaver, blocks everything that talks negatively about the old coaching staff.

When it was blocked I reposted  and edited out the film part with "EDITED OUT Thanks to TomB."

Apparently this ticked him off and started a sparring over email between the two of us.

End of the day...I am banned from posting.  I can still Read though, however, I already canceled my subscription.

No problem on the doubt....

Here is a link to the day's schedule.  The Blackboard session is what I am referring to.

http://www.nikecoyfootball.com/Mt-Pleasant/Mt-Pleasant-schedule.aspx

The setup is great and was the same with the old staff.

Michigan Coaches spread around the room with large rip of sheets of paper and pretty much answer any questions the coaches have.  MSU, CMU, WMU, and EMU also had their own rooms.

I decided to spend my time with Mattison (good decision on my part).

Typically, we get 2 hours but the Minnesota head coach (Jerry Kill), had his time moved later due to travel issues.

Cancelation Email As Well....

As you can imagine, I was pretty ticked about being banned.

For those questioning stealing info, Here you go...

QW

Sorry no mention of QW.  Roh, BWC, MM, and Cam Gordon were the only ones mentioned by name.

Being a huge fan at a coaching clinic makes it kind of hard to ask fan-like questions.  Most of the conversations were about the scheme.  EG, alignment (under defense) and Fire Zone Concepts.

Yes it is a copy paste, but...

It was my copy paste.  Tom Beaver booted me this morning for the film comment.   Here are my emails from Scout.

NEXT EMAIL:  From Tom Beaver

I can only assume you were trying to stir the pot.

The only thing I removed was the satire, and I locked it because of the recrimination-replies that the satire generated.

My Response To Tom Beaver:

Did you read the post?  If you actually read the post, you would have noticed that none of the info came from me.  This was a high-profile coach that made the comments, not me.

My intent was to share interesting information and not to stir the pot.  Any background research would have shown that.

It is sad that 99% was great stuff, however, 1 bit of info is what you focus on.  Big question for me....why pay $ and have relevant stuff censored???????

His final response:

ah, it wasn't a misunderstanding then

Had you read my inbox to you -- I edited and locked the post because the replies became the same-old-fighting ... it wasn't an attack on you

The Read-Only is because you're still in fight-mode

Thank you!

Thank you for posting.  I read enough, but I guess I need to comment a lot more.

Roh answer...

can be found below.  You will find my summary of my time spent w/ Coach Mattison this weekend.

Chalktalk w/ Coach Mattison

I know this is different than the title, however, I do not have enough points for my own post.  Maybe someone else can start a new post and copy/paste.

I thought this was great stuff.

I was able to attend the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic this weekend, and Coach Hoke and his staff were present.

Best part was that I was able to spend about 90 minutes with Coach Mattison.  What a great guy, plus he gave some great insight for the upcoming year.  Here is a breakdown of the conversations that I and about 4 other HS coaches had with him.

Things we aleady knew... Michigan will employ a 4-3 under look.  This will look like a 5-2 to many, however, the Sam linebacker will be on the line (TE side) with LB responsibilities.

Things we may not have known....paraphrasing Mattison the best I can from memory.
1.  M. Martin will love this defense, as opposed to getting doubled all the time last year.
2.  Not sure what the deal with Will Campbell last year, but he should fit perfect in the 3 tech.  He is winning most group competitions.  Apparently was not skinny enough to play in last year's scheme.  Tried to make move him to OL last year, but reminds Mattison of Haloti Ngata (sp?)  6'5"  345 lbs  WC that is.
3.  Roh is perfect fit for rush end.  (We already knew this)
4.  Cameron Gordon looks like a good fit at SLB instead of safety.  Perfect body type and athleticism for this spot.

Couple other little nuggets.
1.  Will hit more than they've ever hit.  Not necessarily tackling to the ground every day, but will hit everyday.
2.  Will run pursuit drills everyday until perfected.
3.  Shocked in first few film sessions by the inability of players to watch film correctly.  (got banned from Scout this morning for film comment)

Spent time talking about other things as well, but this post is long enough as it is.
Dude...

let it go.  It's time!

Why go pro when...

you are already gettting paid?

Just when we thought...

it couldn't really get worse.  And here it comes.  Stay positive...Stay positive...Stay positive...That's what I keep telling myself, but I'm starting to doubt DB.

Earning Your Wings

I thought that was a great idea.  Tate has proven that he was not worthy and I think that is a great motivational tool.

Also would love...

Also would love...to hear it from Denard's mouth.  Who can make this happen?  Make it happen NOW!

That would me so much more if....

this guy actually accomplished something as a head coach.

Pre-Christmas Supports Gallon Theory

I mentioned in a previous post that during the pre-Christmas practice, Gallon was taking snaps against the #2 and #3 defenses.  Many people stated that the coaches were using him as a scout team QB.

One would think that if he were the scout QB then he would be going against the #1 D.

MPO, RichRod knew Tate's status was in question for awhile.  He also needed a plan to spell Denard for a play or two if the bowl game goes like most of the season without burning Devin's Redshirt.

If Denard gets seriously hurt today, we'll see Devin, if not...we will see Gallon for a short spell.

GO BLUE!

Saturday's Practice 1st Hand Witness

While watching the entire practice, in person, on Saturday.  it did not appear to me that Gallon was participating as the scout team quarterback.  Instead, it looked to me that he was facing the 2nd/3rd team Defense as a potential security blanket in case something happens to Denard.

In other news...Tate did not participate in the team scrimmage portion of the practice.  He did participate in the individual group portion, but was seen holding his right arm close to his body during sprints at the end of practice.  Hopefully it is nothing serious, but it was enough to keep him out of the scrimmage.

Even more news...Gardner looked great, even better than Denard.  It looks like his back is fine.
