...as a final "thank you card" from Dean. Just a nice reminder that his players meant something to him. Not really meant as financial aid. The players can go out and have a nice dinner and drinks on Dean and remember the good old days.

...of a couple entrepreneurs I know. They stubbornly refuse to believe their business concepts really aren't that novel or, frankly, in much demand. As such, they will likely end up poor and frustrated in the end. I suspect this kid will end up much the same (at least regarding this wacky concept of his).

...but he was a dumb ass. These guys are blessed with physical gifts and opportunities that less than 1% of the population possess and they too often piss it away. All they need to do is exercise a little restraint. Viewed against the tremendous opportunity, I don't think this is asking too much.
As my young daughter would say, "too bad... so sad."

|3 weeks 1 day ago||That makes sense.||
I'm sure added weight and speed exacerbates the likelihood of brain injury.
The NCAA solution, therefore, is easy. No player shall weigh more than 200 lbs and no player shall be allowed to run faster than 5.0 seconds over any 40-yard span. (Mandatory ankle weights for the skill position players.) ; )
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I think back...||
...to the 1970s when I played in high school. I'm sure I suffered concussions of varying degrees in both football and basketball. Interestingly, the only time I blacked out was after getting elbowed in the face playing basketball.
We NEVER came out of the games back then. I think you would have had to have been unconscious for the coach to take you out. "Get back in there... you just had your bell rung..."
I wonder if those earlier hits are why today I often find myself functioning in an alternate universe? ; )
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Well...||
...then of course, you need to address the degree of the concussed state. Mild all the way to severe.
I have to believe that on nearly every football play, one or more players suffer some degree of brain injury, if even very mild and seemingly benign. Helmet to helmet (or helmet to ground) contact virtually guarantees it. It's the nature of the collision sport. When a brain in motion comes to an abrupt stop, it's going to bang around in the cranium, yes?
Then there's the cumulative effect of many mild concussions. At what point can we determine this to be a problem and which objective scale should be utilized to determine whether a particular player is fit to play? I don't think anyone really has that answer and it's ultimately a subjective decision.
One thing is certain. There will continue to be controversy over this issue as long contact sports such as football are played.

...for the insider's perspective on the process through which a unique, thoughtful young man has been. Loved his quote about God coming when you need Him and He's always on time. Getting a sense of Karan's character makes the Weber decision fade into insignificant obscurity in my mind.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Weber?||
Maybe not... Weber as quoted by the Detroit News:
""I grew up a Michigan fan and it's always been a school I wanted to go to, play for, and that's why I made my decision to go there early," Weber said. "But when it went downhill and they lost Brady Hoke and didn't know who they would bring in, I committed to Ohio State. Then they hired (Jim) Harbaugh, but I was pretty solid on Ohio State because I wanted to try something different.
"I talked to Coach Harbaugh a few times and he's a real energized guy, a cool guy," Weber added. "I think he understands (why I'm going to Ohio State). He just wanted to get to know me."

"Tom, you are fit at Michigan because you're just like Jim Thorpe, except faster."
|10 weeks 2 days ago||I thought about this...||
...as I watched the Championship game last night. I just don't know. OSU's Meyer by many accounts appears to have a rather unscrupulous "SEC-Style" recruiting manner, which Michigan clearly would not. As such, the talent disparity will remain a concern (IMHO), and now blue-chip recruits (especially those looking for a quick springboard to the next level) will tend to gravitate toward Columbus, at least for a few seasons.
It will be interesting, but even with Harbaugh I think we're more like three or four seasons away from a rebuilt and competitive program, if we're fortunate. I hope I'm wrong and M becomes competitive in two or three seaons (or even sooner)!

|16 weeks 2 days ago||Tough call.||
Not sure who would be best for the program.
Best chance of a fast-track, short-term turnaround: Les Miles or Jim Harbaugh
Longer-term turnaround, but perhaps longer-term coaching stability: PJ Fleck (I like his youth and infectious enthusiasm)
|20 weeks 2 days ago||The unspoken thing...||
...is that if SF players don't like playing for him, would a high school recruit be concerned, too?
|22 weeks 1 day ago||I really like the idea...||
...of having our team clean it with toothbrushes. They just don't seem as passionate about this game as the other guys.
As an old-schooler, I prefer retaliation to be done with blue paint, not maize. I superstitiously suspect our slide into mediocrity can be tied to an emphasis on maize over blue, but that could just be a residual bad beer effect on my brain.
|24 weeks 4 days ago||Not sure...||
...where the bottom is. Football is a strange game and two or three big plays can make all the difference in any given contest.
Regardless of where we end up, we still have the coolest helmets. So, there's that.

|25 weeks 2 days ago||While unfortunate, the Morris incident...||
...adds another compelling and convenient reason to replace BH in addition to his abysmal record (4-9 in the last 13 games). The talent on the roster isn't the problem. It's the coaching (or lack thereof) IMHO.
It also provides a valid reason to dismiss a bungling DB.
I've been thinking that waiting until the season's end would be likely and prudent, but now I think immediate action is the best course and naming an interim HC.
This single incident has probably set Michigan football back another 2 to 3 years; perhaps longer from a recruiting perspective alone.
I'm not sure BH even realizes the severity of the sh!tstorm he's in.
