11 weeks 6 days ago	My junior year of highs	My junior year of highs schoo, I took the Spring Break Campus Tour of 4-5 schools; the tour concluded in Ann Arbor.   Already having grown up a Wolverine fan, I remember riding in the car past Ocker Field and Yost on the way to my campus visit, thinking, "Let's be real here.  These other visits are simply formalities.  This is where I'm going, and it's not even close."

Twitter is NO DIFFERENT than standing up and making a statement to a room full of your followers.  Talk about a failure in personal branding. Heck, I re-read each of my own tweets 2-3 times to make sure they're actually worth tweeting.

14 weeks 4 days ago	I think as an athlete, you	I think as an athlete, you dream about being the best.  You work at being the best.  Then you hear someone tell you that, indeed, you're one of the best.   And you're just kinda there. A  high school junior going to class and preparing for your upcoming basketball game, thinking, "Wow.  I woke up today just like any other day in my life. And now this is what being one of the best looks and feels like." I think in that situation it's pretty conceivable to feel humble.

16 weeks 4 days ago	Murray Sperber's Beer and	Murray Sperber's Beer and Circus touches on this - even if most athletic departments aren't self-sufficient, universities are okay with spending a shit-ton on athletics, because they use sports as a vehicle to drive strong undergraduate enrollment numbers and interest from prospective students.   He calls it the "Flutie Factor"; after BC beat Miami on the Hail Mary and garnered national attention, the # of applicants to BC rose dramatically.  Students want to go have fun in college - go to parties, tailgate, pregame, binge drink, etc. Obviously, a lot of that culture revolves around college sports; thus, universities use athletics as a marketing tool aimed at the regular student.  So really, spending on academics vs. athletics "per student" turns into a real blurry line here.
16 weeks 5 days ago	Twitter can be used in many	Twitter can be used in many inappropriate ways, e.g. when Mark Hollis tweets at Trey Burke, or someone uses a hashtag like #bringagun.  If you bring about the topic of NCAA regulation of Twitter for negative recruiting, you have to discuss the regulation of public forums as a whole for NCAA-related issues.   The issue doesn't seem to be negatively recruiting or starting rumors (because that's always going to happen regardless of the medium) but rather using improper, i.e. public, outlets to engage in questionable behavior.  And if the NCAA wants to attempt to regulate what is and isn't appropriate...good luck.
