that a lot of research went into seeing which team is what seed, but....
doesn't this all boil down to "hope a team higher than MICH on the seed lines loses"?
Does this really require a lot of analysis?

It's about time someone addressed the o-line coaching?
Been avoiding Michigan fan sites since late September, I see.

sports entertainment blog in the country, Deadspin is one place to find it.
(and just to be clear, that's just pointing out it's been bouncing around a lot of major outlets today, and not an endorsement of Deadspin, which is mildly funny TMZ sports trash 80% of the time; really interesting, valuable investigative journalism 10% of the time, and the most disingenuous, hypocritical, muckraking, misogynistic, unsourced rumormongering, yellow journalism 10% of the time.)

"he's awful" would have to be a troll, and I'd be shocked if more than one or two people ever said that here. It's certainly not "most Michigan fans" who owe him an apology.
You're overstating the nature of the criticisms. He wasn't playing like a star earlier in the season and that was the nature of the bulk of the commentary, which was factually accurate.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||That is one of the worst calls I have ever seen in my life||
Literally. It's a fairly small, not-that-big of a deal, but resetting the MSU shot clock by deeming an OSU player had "possession" when all he did was grab a loose ball in the air that was 2 feet out of bounds and fling it back into the court aimlessly.
I agree with Dakich, I have never ever ever seen that.

Given that Mariota and Hundley will now be in next year's draft along with Jameis Winston, 2015 looks pretty top heavy too, at least at the marquee position.
Plus of course DG

He's "trending" toward MSU? Like 70% of the time when he makes his commitment, it's to MSU? God, I swear high school recruiting "news" is dumber even than stock market narratives, which is tough.
Instead of trending, maybe the post title should use the verb "changing in opinion of some guy who has a job, unbelievably enough, to take moderately educated guesses at where 16-18 year-old kids might go to college in order to get affuent alumni to keep paying monthly subscription fees"
|11 weeks 1 day ago||Hasn't||
Hasn't everyone known that O'Brien would not be there for the long haul? His NFL pedigree and ambitions were common knowledge since he took the job, and he was being offered NFL jobs last year before Hackenberg ever signed his LOI.
This should not be a surprise to anyone, and PSU should be eminently grateful for the time they got that he stopped the school from cratering the last two years when many other mediocre coaches wouldn't have been able to.
No one can ever dare take a job for more money? Except in every other field besides sports.

I guess this is dickish, but is there a reason not to DVR the game instead of hoping for a torrent to be posted?
And if you have eschewed cable for internet-only TV and willfully given up live sports and depend upon the kindness of strangers to post torrents, then, well, ok

They also played defense, against a larger front-court in which they were overmatched, and held it in check. Taking fouls is part of defense. They also committed zero turnovers, drew at least one charge, drew other fouls on Nastic and Powell, and Morgan in particular had several hustle plays that led to possessions or points.
Points and rebounds against fouls is an extremely simplistic way to evaluate their contribution.

"Twitter" is not a source. It's a medium. Like "word of mouth" or "radio."
You have to like, I don't know, cite to the source that is ON Twitter. But let me guess....there isn't actually one.
|16 weeks 21 hours ago||Funny||
There really is a tremendous irony that the M game records for total offense and receiving yards are by members of one of the worst Michigan offenses of the modern era, particularly if you look at the peformance curve of the offense over the season.
You'd think that one would preclude the other, but it really isn't the case.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||This thread is devolving||
This thread is devolving into an RR fight, so I probably will not return to it, but this might be one of the more interesting posts on here. There is this constant refrain that "execution" isn't a shot at the players, that at the end of the day, Hoke is guarding his coaches just like he's guarding his players.
But that's a pretty clear shot at the players. Not a good look, even if it's true.
Hoke can't have it both ways.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Might not expect more||
But might hope for more.
I fully believe that he genuinely cares, that he's disappointed. To express that feeling would help people have faith that problems will be fixed and give him some benefit of the doubt.
And maybe he thinks it doesn't matter because behind closed doors he feels he's addressing things properly. But then he (and the AD) better be equally prepared to hear a lot of hot seat publicity next year (which will hurt in recruiting) and realize that they're burning away any public good will and benefit of the doubt they might hope for.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Don't do this||
You don't need to compare RR to Hoke/Borges. It gives the people defending Borges an easy way to change the argument, where there actually is room for disagreement.
This should be purely about Borges and the performance of the offense, in a vacuum, being impossible to rationally defend by any of the staunchest supporters on here.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Well||
that's not exactly true. Devin is not playing well, I'm sure even he would tell you that.
I dont think the takeaway here is that DG is doing well, I think the takeaway is that he's a really great guy, who cares deeply about the team, gives everything he has, and doesn't ever deserve to have his heart questioned.
But that's not the same thing as being critcism-proof for his play, even if there are myriad explanations for why he's not playing well.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||Hoke||
I think back to when Hoke was hired. It was a bold call at the time that at first seemed to have paid off because even though Hoke himself wasn't necessarily a great football mind, he's a great guy, great recruiter, and could attract top coaches to handle the x's and o's.
But to be that kind of Les Miles-type coach, whose role is sort of caretaker and general face of the program, you have to make the tough calls with your coaches. I would never want to be LSU, ever, but you look at that approach, they cycled through coordinators constantly, trying to find something that worked, and they never had things as bad as this.
If Hoke cant do this right here and now, it speaks very poorly for him

In a vacuum this post is so obviously sarcastic. But based on your other posts it appears this is actually a serious comment.
|18 weeks 8 hours ago||But||
you did invent the argument that someone said he is elite. Youre the only one who said that, the argument was whether "he's not very good" and the stats referenced certainly provide a rebuttal to that.
So maybe lecturing people on careful reading shouldn't come from you
|18 weeks 1 day ago||Don't know who to get||
The argument from some Borges supporters (and I'm not saying you are saying this) is "well, who would you hire?"
It really is an incredibly stupid argument to suggest that there is no one that Michigan could possibly hire that would be better. Somewhere is the next Chip Kelly at New Hampshire, or Rich Rod at Tulane, or Malzahn or Briles at a freaking high school.
And i'm not even remotely suggesting that you have to hit on the next great innovator like those guys. But there are tens, if not hundreds, of coaches capable of running a not-extreme-spread offense that are great candidates. Oregon State? San Jose State? Bowling Green? NFL position coaches?
I don't even know, but just because the average fan can't name the person doesn't mean that there aren't highly thought-of offensive minds that are eager to get a chance to prove themselves at a high profile position like Michigan.
|18 weeks 1 day ago||Why doesn't Devin throw the ball away?||
I mean really throw it away. Every play, even when it throws it late, he's trying to squeeze something in, or over the top, or just underneath.
He's got no time, i get it. But sometimes when you have "no time" you still have time to chuck it away.
I'd really like to know how many pure throw aways he's had since the ND game. If someone had that stat, and an average-throwaways-per-QB stat, i would be shocked if DG wasn't in the bottom 10 in FBS.
|19 weeks 3 days ago||Are you just||
starting a thread for the sake of starting a thread? To discuss issues you freely admit have been discussed ad nauseum, with no particular impetus?
|19 weeks 4 days ago||On the other hand||
there are a ton of posters who played high school football, but never read any of the UFRs, Space Coyote's analysis, Magnus' opinions, Mathlete posts, Chris Brown's breakdowns...
...and stick to the rote "you don't understand you've never played/coached before, trust the coaches, you guys who are critical don't know what you're talking about, this is their job, they have millions of dollars riding on this."
Like it's impossible for coaches to not be the very best, and not take advantage of all available information. And yet NFL coaches still regularly opt to punt from the 35 on 4th and 2.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||I think a lot of people are missing the point||
Space Coyote is making an argument for rational debate. He may be clearly on one side of the Borges debate, but his post is in favor of reason regardless of sides (at least that's the benefit of the doubt I would give him).
A lot of people in this thread are using the fact that he's threatening to leave to somehow prove that he's right about Borges.
He may not actually be right. Borges may be a mediocre OC. There are a lot of facts and evidence to support that argument.
But whether or not Borges is a good OC really shouldn't be the take away point here, and i think it weakens the point of the rant when a lot of people in this thread convert it to arm their own pro-Borges agenda (which, often times, is as ill-informed and armchair as the very anti-Borges opinions that irritate SC).
