Johns Hopkins is in the B1G lacrosse league? That seems like a really significant "get" for the conference. Is this like hockey where there were a bunch of random conferences that were inevitably going to fade away? What's the draw for Hopkins to join a legitimate conference but with a bunch of mediocre teams? Or was it the other way around where teams love the chance to join the B1G?
|1 week 18 hours ago||The Brandon Minor touchdown||
against MSU. He caught a ball in the air and essentially kicked the pylon as he went out of bounds before he ever landed. While it wasn't exactly a pivotal play in a game we lost anyway, in an absolute sense it was one of the worst calls I've ever seen because it was just so clearly obviously starkly incorrect.

to the end of the thread title. It's kind of misleading otherwise.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I'm quite surprised that people think of college||
as a place to be trained for your job. That is only really the point is a base sense. But there's so much more to life than the training you need for your job.
Without college I would likely not have the impetus to, for example, read Plato's Republic, or learn core physics principles, neither of which have any application in my job, both of which I consider valuable knowledge for making me a well-rounded person, someone who can make more educated decisions in life, about everything from the nutrition in the foods I eat, to vaccinating my child, to evaluating whether a tax levy for maintaining roads is something that is worthwhile for my community.
That also includes the social skills people pick up or refine in college: consideration when living in a group setting, responsible drinking habits, managing one's schedule, how to ask someone out on a date (and how not to), etc.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Or even leaving 3 days before signing day||
Even if the coach is recruiting right up until signing day, as long as he doesn't give the impression to the recruit that he's "not going anywhere" (and that includes by omitting to state that you have a job offer in hand), then i don't really have an issue as long as they leave before the LOIs are sent in. Heck, if i actually believed that Drayton's first whiff of the job offer was the day after NSD, I wouldn't begrudge him that. But we all know that's not the case.
MICH better be careful though, because if the program is successful, there are a lot of guys on staff who will be looking around each year given the seemingly upwardly mobile nature of the bulk of our coaches. I just hope we do things correctly if/when the NFL or other schools come calling for position coaches in the coming years.

If all you watched was the NC game, they happened to be missing probably the fastest WR in college football in Devon Allen, and their Devin Funchess-esque TE Pharaoh Brown, two longer range targets.
Just to be clear, I would say they are a rushing spread first, but their offense is a pretty balanced attack.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Lolwut||
He put up 333 yards passing on 65% completion percentage, at a respectable 9.0 yds/pass with 40 rushing yards against a defense with a lot of NFL-caliber players, and his receivers flat dropped another 50 yards worth of passes, all while their O-line was being collapsed play after play.
Mariota is not the reason Oregon lost this game, the fact that their defense couldn't tackle Jones and Elliott is. He may not be a star in the NFL but to say he has little NFL potential based on that game is flawed

to stretch more than 20 hours a week. It's not illegal to take money in exchange for going to a particular school. It's not illegal to play a sport professionally before going to school.
The NCAA has a lot of rules that have nothing to do with the law. Whether or not it's good policy, the rule is the rule, the rule and the consequences are widely known, and the guy made a decision to risk it.

|8 weeks 4 days ago||If true||
This is unfortunate for MICH and unfortunate for this website. To confidently report something like this (not even couched in caveats of "take it with a grain of salt") and be wrong really doesn't look good, especially when this site prides itself on not jumping the gun and wanting to be very certain rather than just take rumors at face value.
Whether or not this was an 11th hour change of heart, if it wasn't done, then don't report it and settle for not being one of the first to break the news. And if it was based solely on comments from a 2016 recruit then perhaps there should be more vetting. I'm sure many people come here (at least to the main page) precisely because they have confidence in the accuracy of the information. A certain amount of irony for a website with a recurring segment titled "unverified voracity" as a mocking dig at irresponsible journalism.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||I don't think||
the OP was intending it to be a guess at "this is what the staff will look like." I think it was supposed to be "these are all the options that are being talked about."
|9 weeks 4 days ago||Wait, that's not Dwight??||
I read it and thought, "I've heard that before...oh yeah, Dwight Schrute."
Then I googled it, and see that Harbaugh said that specific quote, with the jackhammer bit. But did he plagiarize Ken Tremendous et al?
Dwight in 2007: "I never take vacations, I never get sick. And I don't celebrate any major holidays."
Harbaugh, sometime around 2010: "I don’t take vacations. I don’t get sick. I don’t observe major holidays. I'm a jackhammer.”
|9 weeks 4 days ago||No, seriously||
As i posted in another thread: after looking it up, because I assumed it was a Dwight quote when i first saw it, not having heard Harbaugh ever say that:
Dwight in 2007: "I never take vacations, I never get sick. And I don't celebrate any major holidays."
Harbaugh, sometime around 2010: "I don’t take vacations. I don’t get sick. I don’t observe major holidays. I’m a jackhammer.”
It's kind of funny that he ripped off a line from a guy who is a caricature of an overly-devoted non-self-aware employee
|9 weeks 5 days ago||This should be the front page video||
when the actual hire happens.
It will hopefully replace Peanut Butter Jelly Time as the iconic coach-hiring song of MGoBlog history, and I will no longer have to think about how poorly that turned out.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||The thing is||
this isn't an isolated incident, or the first time. It's already happened like 3 or 4 times that he's posted something stupid/plagiarized/fabricated purely to self promote. And every time half the posts are "give him a break, he's a kid learning how things work"
It's not about lambasting a kid, but at this point, he knows what he's doing, he's self aware, and he is INTENTIONALLY doing things like this to try to get ahead.
He hasn't learned about responsible journalism from the last several incidents, he's no longer a kid "just figuring things out."

Oregon State is one of the worst academic schools in the Pac 12. Wisconsin is one of the top 10 public schools in the country. While that's not conclusive, it's very believable, perhaps likely, that the academic standards are different.
|12 weeks 4 days ago||Of course they do||

|13 weeks 17 hours ago||Brandon and likelihood of getting Harbaugh||
Whether JH was more or less likely to take the job if DB was the Athletic Director is pure speculation and hypothetical. No one has been proven wrong on that one way or the other. It seems unlikely DB's presence would help, but we're all just making educated guesses.
So I don't think you can point to that and say "Look, the supposed insider was WRONG!!"
|13 weeks 4 days ago||Actually think Miles would be successful||
The stuff about Brian's stance is funny, because this coming week I guarantee we face a front page post, whether in a mail bag or UV or whatever, that reiterates all his hatreds for Miles. And I bet the tune of the board changes a bit.
I actually don't agree that Miles would be a bad hire in terms of on field success, getting the program turned in the right direction over the next 5 years has a ton of value for the subsequent hire, BUT I wouldn't want to hire Les anyway based simply on the fact he's a giant dickbag.
There are probably literally 20 people in HC or coordinator positions who could take MICH's talent and turn it in to a 9-win team next year. No idea if we'll actually hire one of them and obviously identifying those individuals is the real key, but things aren't as dire as "If not Harbaugh, then Miles, then nothing."
|13 weeks 4 days ago||So||
So if I'm reading correctly, if we miss on Miles, then we should hire Mack Brown.
|14 weeks 56 min ago||It's a noun||
Chode (or more commonly as I've seen it, "choad") is a noun, not an adjective.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||Bingo||
You want the point where we lost the game (or lost the chance to the definitely win the game), it's right here. Up 1, yes there are three guys around him but Spike is right next to him, you at least try to make that pass, and in all likelihood it's either a completed pass and Spike is going to the line, or it's deflected out of bounds.
I assume Donnal just sort of froze in the moment, saying to himself "Just don't turn it over, just don't turn it over..." Which of course is right, but the next evolution as a successful college basketball player is "don't turn it over and get it to a good FT shooter, don't turn it over and get it to a good FT shooter..."
