“Take Manti, for example,” Weis said. “I love Manti. Manti and I will be close the rest of our lives, as will his family and I. But I think it’s important for me to understand it’s their team, it’s not my team. I have to worry about Kansas. But there (are) a lot of young men that are having a lot of success this year that I’m very, very happy for.”
The obvious takeaway: the SEC is insane. SEC schools spend more than 12 times as much on each athlete as they do on their regular, non-revenue-generating students
Do you remember when Kraft had to stop calling it Cheese & Macaroni because there was more macaroni than cheese? Apparently Student Athletes are actually Athlete Students. Shout out to Cardale Jones.
Bad call...I don't want to see a kid worth a lot of money right now holding out. Odds are he'll be fine and a likely top-10 pick next season, but he has plenty of value now.
If Damon Webb was going to commit to OSU him doing it this early is probably the least worst option. The staff can pursue others, and if he changes his mind and there's still a seat, so be it. Losing a hat ceremony right before NSD 2014 would've been completely different.
It went ok from what I'm hearing. I don't think Alabama fits his personality as well as Michigan does. I've said this before, but I think Michigan has a clear lead on him. Poggi is a smart kid, his parents also want him to go to a highly rated academic institution. In terms of ratings and football tradition, Michigan would be hard to beat Michigan for Poggi. If he does sign with the Tide, then Saban clearly sold him on his pro potential. -Roll Damn Tide, 4/30/2012
You can see the players that I recruited here, you know who they are. We've had one class … that I've had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it's a process. It can't happen overnight. They're getting there. We're making good progress."
I didn't come to complain I came to ask if I was the only one who'd downgraded him from must read to nausea inducing. I click the link, start reading and honestly get pissed off that the old Bill Simmons is dead. If it's just me that's fine I actually appreciate the feedback.
I used to love his columns, especially his NFL columns. I can barely read his stuff anymore. It's hard to credibly reflect the working class underdog fan when you are sitting courtside at the Finals, chumming around with the former chairman of Disney on your podcast, or talking about your daughter's private school crush on Slash's kid. Maybe it's just me.
I miss the old Bill Simmons, the new one is talented and successful but a complete douche.
Richardson is a darn sponge, he's one of those kids you love to have on your team because when you say 'Can I get somebody for a drill,' he's the first one there. If he does something wrong, he said 'Coach, show me what I did.' You love that about him.
I was hoping he'd advocate for the pro-Ohio "death threats are totally justified" perspective. I guess the good news is that Bayless and Stephen A are likely still available to fill that role. Or perhaps Craig James and Pam Ward can be brought back along with Matt Millen and Chris Spielman for the most ridonkulous segment in the history of time. And let's throw it to Terrelle Pryor for a closing, "everybody kills people".
This is an isolated incident [that happened repeatedly during the course of the game] and Coach D and his staff will continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining one's composure during the heat of the moment [as well as in press conferences]. As an AD, I take [saying flowery things about] sportsmanship seriously, but it's equally important for me to evaluate this game and the particular play [or, uh, plays] in its totality [as soon as I get off of The Twitter]
and finally after a week and pressure from the B1G Hollis got around to saying (link):
I have taken this opportunity to express to Pat the importance of collecting his thoughts after an emotional game to ensure that he puts his best foot forward with the media and public in the future. He’s an outstanding coach and motivator [who publicly admitted he coached his kids to play with "unnecessary roughness"] and a rising star in his profession [because clearly the message is getting through, and he has people like me enabling him].
Kudos to the NFL for setting a good precedent where the B1G and god forbid E.L. might have.
The truth is, the anger I feel toward Carmelo is really anger that should be directed at owner James Dolan. If ‘Melo is Paulie, then Dolan, to continue the Godfather analogy, is basically Fredo, if Fredo were twice as stupid and three times as jumpy. When Fredo panicked, all he did was fumble the gun, sit down, and cry. Dolan would’ve accidentally fired it, hitting his father another couple of times in the back, before running away and hiding.
I expected him to say/do something much less diplomatic
It's not hard to understand how someone would want their younger sibling to experience something they're passionate about
He's made plenty of missteps but never actively/maliciously/egregiously harmed the program
When you're hitting rock bottom it's nice to feel like you have non-paid-entourage support
All that said, given how 2012 went down, not sure why they wouldn't just control what they can control e.g. do the work, avoid nonsense, do what they have to do until signing day

"I think it's nonsense. I've never heard any talk of that [because I was wearing the cans they make you wear when you go on the radio]," he said. "I don't think there's anything [other than what I already said on the radio] being contemplated as it relates to that. I think someone spewed something on a blog somewhere [about what I said on the radio], and as is usually the case by the time [what I said] gets told three times, people start to believe it. There's a pretty strong commitment on behalf of the conference [and many blogs] that that game belongs as the last game of the season [and I should be Brian'd for saying things inconsistent with that, as well as for blaming the blogs for directly quoting me]."

I'd +1 fear/paranoia for the weather, forecast says upper 40s possible showers @ 3pm. I'm not aware of an advanced metric for weather inspired offensive fubar, but I don't think you'd call this a strength in recent years.
I propose a new segment, "This week in WTKA: Let your fingers do the walkin' and your crazy do the talkin'" that picks the most ridiculous call of the week.
Week one winner: "Chuck who connected the fall of the Soviet Union to 9/11 to Three and Out"
Ojemudia has an insane drive/motor. Outright my favorite commit. When he puts some mass on the sky is the limit. I honestly hope they leave him a 3* so he can make a mockery of it for the rest of his career.
It would've been more fitting for him to break out the Hoosiers quote heading to Indy. I suspect Brady loves this movie but does not understand why we moved past the VHS tape.

Fact: George R. R. Martin (author) is a Jets fan.
Opinion: Game of Thrones is more entertaining than the Jets. But makes about as much sense as the Jets do.
Question: Did George R. R. Martin base Joffrey on Craig James? Who unloads a quiver of arrows into a perfectly good hooker?
