Not really that similar but it was an odd circumstance. I suppose it's up there with the snow collapsing the Metrodome roof. July 15, 1976 The Only “Rain Out” in Astrodome History

I thought this post was going to be about something else.
|11 hours 8 min ago||We were spoiled by 1997-2000||
I was disappointed in the 2002 team at the time. Getting stomped by Iowa and losing to both ND and OSU (esp in light of Tressel's asendance) made it painful. But that was a better season than all but one of the last seven.
|17 hours 36 min ago||Still cannot believe how that 2002 game finished||
We were headed for the exits when Michigan started to move the ball on their final drive. Stopped and watched from a few rows above our usual seats. Talk about snatching victory from the apple-cheeked jaws of defeat. Wow.

Maybe we are willing to play someone decent opposite Arkansas - a road game in 2018 and a home game in 2019. How about Cal, Clemson, or Auburn?

The class was in Akron and ended around 3:00, so we had time to make it back to the usual UM Club of Cleveland game-watch bar. My wife and I sat with George Lilja, who is 1. super nice and 2. the father of an adopted daughter. Plus that was the last time (oy) we beat MSU comfortably. A good day.

When I read the story the other day the commenst section was a snark battle between MSU fans and UM fans about whether Clark being on the team at all means that Hoke runs a tight ship or not. When I heard about the laptop theft story I would have been fine if Clark got the boot right then. Since he was given another chance he has done really well and become a good player and leader.

The dog pee connotations of fire hydrants make the UM helmet ones a half-baked idea. Kinda like UM toilet seats.

We can't really offer anybody that, as 2015 and 2017 are full. The best we could do might be pairing a game in Ann Arbor in 2016 with a game at their (whoever "they" are) stadium in 2018. If Hawaii in fact drops the sport, that will suck. It would have been much better to know that before we agreed to the next JerryBowl game...rather have had a 2016 and 2017 series. We can afford to add road games in 2016, 2018, and 2020 (will still have seven home games even if we do that). We already have one MAC game lined up for 2016. If we need to buy a one-off home game, make it Marshall or UConn. If we are willing to make a return visit (in 2018?), then make it Cal, Georgia, Missouri, or Syracuse.

who only taught at UM in the fall. He spent the winter semester in Hawaii. I asked him why he just didn't get a gig at UH-Manoa. He said he didn't want to spend any of his time in Hawaii indoors when he and all of his would-be students would be staring longingly out the window.
|1 day 21 hours ago||34 yard TD||
Watch it at 14:30 of Wolverine Historian's post above. It was aweseome, the defender was right next to him in the backfield and Henson just ran away from him. I remember thinking he was toast and then he just turned on the jets. Nobody touched him and he looked like he jogged the last 20 yards.

I consider it really unfair that Michigan:
Had to play against Craig Krenzel instead of Steve Bellisari in 2001
Had to play against an undefeated OSU team and Heisman winner QB in Columbus in 2006 when our 2006 team would have beaten every other team Tressel fielded
Were cheated out of our senior QB year by Henne's injury in 2007, that OSU team was not that good
Had to watch Denard marginalized in 2012 (except for one great play) when he was a senior
Was nearly the victim of Miller's only good game throwing the ball his freshman year, and we didn't get to play against Bauserman even once.
So if OSU has to start a kid instead of their senior QB one time against us, so sad for them. Plus he'll get 11 games of seasoning before we see him.
I hope Miller is okay.
|2 days 12 hours ago||That would be nice||
but I've seen us start hot enough times only to fizzle. Could I get a guarantee that we win our last seven games and take my chances with September?

I've attended 15 of the last 16 season openers (somehow missed NIU in 2005). You couldn't pay me enough to read an article about the 2007 game or to attend this year's. #creatingthefuture
|3 days 59 min ago||Yep||
Even if we win by 50 there will be a nostalgic reference to the 2007 game in his column, with sort of a wistful "We'll always have Paris" vibe.

|3 days 1 hour ago||There's way too much emphasis in momentum in initial polls||
The voters always think things are going to keep right on rolling the way the previous season ended, especially if a team won a big bowl game. The analysis is minimal, except generalist stuff like "oh, the starting QB left for the NFL, probably will be a setback there."
We were unranked to start the season in 1969, 1985, and 2011. Ha.
Also in 2008, 2009, 2010. Ugh.
So we're either going to be awesome, terrible, or somewhere in between. QED.

|5 days 17 hours ago||The Fire Horn||
Back in the early days of computer games, there was one called The Bard's Tale. My best friend played it on his Commodore 64. It never really grabbed me but I remember that once you acquired a Fire Horn, you could pretty much win any skirmish just by playing a merry tune on the thing. In the games when we were really fuckin' on, Denard was our Fire Horn.
When we looked to have blown the 2010 game at ND by letting that big tight end haul in a 90-yard TD, we got the ball back and Denard just chipped his way down the field. I'm a Michigan fan so I'm used to worrying about everything, but I was totally serene. I just knew that Denard would get us to the endzone. Indeed, compared to the previous and subsequent games, the game was won relatively early.

This does not fall into the "huge name" category, but I would really like us to schedule a series with Pittsburgh. They don't draw huge crowds at home, so they might be willing to schedule an unbalances series (two games in Ann Arbor for one game in Pittsburgh). They're good but not great, so we should be favored to win each game. Western PA is fertile recruiting territory. Plus I'd love to go there for a game, it's actually closer to my home than Ann Arbor is. C'mon Dave B.
I see OSU's slate of interesting non-conf matchups over the near future and can't help but frown at our own. Virginia Tech, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Boston College, all home-and-homes. If revenue-hungry OSU can schedule those road games, why can't we?
