that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides

I always pay attention to how job candidates treat the receptionist. Some of them are nasty or rude and don't think that's a problem. I disagree.
McHenry made this situation about her and the social distance between her job and that of the clerk. It's unfortunate when people think it's more important who you are than how you behave. Hell, hasn't she ever watched Batman Begins?

Found that flat rental in Southwark was a much better deal, maybe 40% cheaper. They had to move us to a different building due to renovations, so the walk from London Bridge station was longer than expected (~10 min vs 2 min) but it was fine. Still very close to central London.
The Natural History Museum in South Kensington is magnificent and admission is free (donations encouraged). Really wonderful museum.
Climb to the stone gallery at the top of the St. Paul's dome if you can handle it. Great views of the city.
London Eye is the mother of all ferris wheels.

He and Dave Barnette were a great broadcast team. Of course UM was really good during that era, so that probably boosts my perception of them.

when our neighbor's 90lb black lab comes charging toward him. Luckily the dog is Deion Sanders-like when it comes to contact, he always veers away at the last second.

I recently learned that a colleague of mine is best friend's with the cousin of Mrs. CWebb. My colleague met Chris when he was in town covering an NBA game for TNT. My relationship with the colleague isn't strong enough that I would expect to meet Chris myself, which I suppose is just as well. I wonder what his reaction would be to a Michigan grad whose time in Ann Arbor overlapped with his. Could we really swap cool stories bro while ignoring the fish sandwich-shaped elephant in the room?

One has had the same owner, head coach, and starting QB (one injury year excepted) for the past 14 years, and all three do a superb job. The Browns have had turnover in each of those three roles over the same span, astounding turnover in the case of the QB position, and with rare exceptions, incompetence has reigned.
But of course the Browns have changed their uniforms to incorporate a brighter orange, so that will probably take care of everything.
I am less interested in the other three sports but will take a stab:
NBA: best Spurs, worst Timberwolves
MLB: best Red Sox, worst Marlins (despite their two titles, f-in Jose Mesa)
NHL: best Red Wings, worst Coyotes

But I'm surprised by the number of people who should know better (health care workers, my fellow HR professionals) that get the initials wrong.

The 13-13 tie game.
I used to see him at the CCRB working out with Jared Lancer.
I don't think he ever played very much at UM except for special teams.

This boss was a meathead Notre Dame subway alumnus. Lou's book was titled "Winning Every Day." I noticed the book and said "I think Lou forgot to have his team read that book this year." It was fall 1999 and South Carolina had just finished Lou's first season as head coach with an 0-11 record. Their average game score 25-8, and the only close score was an 11-10 home loss to Vanderbilt.
Dave didn't get it.

during seasons when we had beaten them, esp. if we had better records than they did.
One more thing I miss about days gone by.
Now I can't do it. It will take a lot of losing by MSU and OSU to bring back that back-slapping B1G boosterism.

1. California governor Jerry Brown - just like today
2. Coach Joe Paterno, "who is widely respected for his honorable approach to the game." - that is not just like today.
Good article, M-Dog is right in that much of it could be written today.
I find it interesting that the unadjusted dollar price of a top-of-the-line helmet is not that different. Described as "costing up to $100." The high-end ones these days cost $150-$250. Not that big of a shift in 36+ years.

One floor up from Vince Archer, Dennis Archer's younger son. Vince was cool and the Fab Five (his contemporaries) occasionally came to visit. Vince's roommate was not cool, and would come knocking on my door, looking for my roommate at all hours, almost always when my roommate was elsewhere.

I have a picture of myself posing with a policeman on the steps of the grad. My friend was all set to take the picture with the cop in the background and the cop barked "hey!" He chided us for not asking permission to take his picture. Once I did so, he was all smiles. The pic I took of my friend is him blowing bubbles near the Diag M.
Later that day I was sitting in my room at MoJo and a guy I recognized but didn't know strolled in. He was very chatty and engaged me in a rambling conversation, critiquing the U2 posters on my wall and the band itself, which he felt had gone downhill since Joshua Tree. I thanked him for his candor. It was only after he left that I remembered it was Hash Bash. His being baked was a good explanation for his unexpected appearance and semi-belligerence.
I've never smoked so much as a regular cigarette, and weed doesn't appeal to me. Seeing stoned people act dumb reinforces this sentiment.

because he played so poorly against UM in his only two chances. Going the wrong way on the option (was it twice or three times?) in 1998 was his Jose Canseco headbutt home run moment.
That didn't mean he wasn't terrific for almost every other game he played.
But after Smart's first NCAA tourney team went 5-1, the last four have gone 1-1, 1-1, 0-1, 0-1. He'll have to do a lot better than that to keep Texas fans satisfied.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||We've gone from having an erratic junior and some frosh||
To having two experienced upperclassmen, with the caveat that one can't play this fall.
A huge upgrade of the QB roster in short order.
In 2016 we'll have:
1 senior (Morris)
1 4th-year junior (O'Korn)
1 3rd-year sophomore (Speight)
2 freshman or sophomores, depending on whether they play this fall (Malzone, Gentry)
Plus likely an incoming freshman.
That's a balanced roster with some options.
