"It's not about last year or who's here or who's isn't here," says your head coach. "It's about getting out here and competing and seeing who is here, and that's where we're gonna go."

|1 day 9 hours ago||So much good stuff there||
Beyond what others have already mentioned.
The woman in the Auburn jammies in the third row and her delayed Home Alone reaction to the posterboard sign that someone threw.
The woman behind her shouting FU just before gettin knocked forward.
The blonde in the third row reacting to the posterboard as if she saw a mouse.
Beirdo the Weirdo at the scorer's table grinning throughout.
Al Glick's grandfather in the front row next to Mr. "What a Jackass," noticing nothing.
Lord Middlefinger dashing in from our left after Henderson had started to back up.

If my team's rivals have higher attendance, then it doesn't mean anything.

was one of the best things on the internet. I miss Shutdown Fullback.
Up the middle. Every single time.

And so would Boone. Some quotes from an October 2012 article about Boone, then in his fourth season with the 49ers:
Alex' mother, Amy Boone:
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh:

that Boren had 1% body fat. That would be three pounds of fat, apparently all of which hung in full view, under his chin.
We can argue about the missteps of the Rodriguez era forever (and doubtless we will) but I think we can agree that Justin Boren acted like a tool.
I believe that after Boren set fire to the bridge on the way out of town, he said he didn't want to speak publicly about it anymore, but that more details would come out later. He's got plenty of time on his hands to write a book now. I think snowplowing season is done in Columbus.

I always pay attention to how job candidates treat the receptionist. Some of them are nasty or rude and don't think that's a problem. I disagree.
McHenry made this situation about her and the social distance between her job and that of the clerk. It's unfortunate when people think it's more important who you are than how you behave. Hell, hasn't she ever watched Batman Begins?

Found that flat rental in Southwark was a much better deal, maybe 40% cheaper. They had to move us to a different building due to renovations, so the walk from London Bridge station was longer than expected (~10 min vs 2 min) but it was fine. Still very close to central London.
The Natural History Museum in South Kensington is magnificent and admission is free (donations encouraged). Really wonderful museum.
Climb to the stone gallery at the top of the St. Paul's dome if you can handle it. Great views of the city.
London Eye is the mother of all ferris wheels.

He and Dave Barnette were a great broadcast team. Of course UM was really good during that era, so that probably boosts my perception of them.

when our neighbor's 90lb black lab comes charging toward him. Luckily the dog is Deion Sanders-like when it comes to contact, he always veers away at the last second.

I recently learned that a colleague of mine is best friend's with the cousin of Mrs. CWebb. My colleague met Chris when he was in town covering an NBA game for TNT. My relationship with the colleague isn't strong enough that I would expect to meet Chris myself, which I suppose is just as well. I wonder what his reaction would be to a Michigan grad whose time in Ann Arbor overlapped with his. Could we really swap cool stories bro while ignoring the fish sandwich-shaped elephant in the room?

One has had the same owner, head coach, and starting QB (one injury year excepted) for the past 14 years, and all three do a superb job. The Browns have had turnover in each of those three roles over the same span, astounding turnover in the case of the QB position, and with rare exceptions, incompetence has reigned.
But of course the Browns have changed their uniforms to incorporate a brighter orange, so that will probably take care of everything.
I am less interested in the other three sports but will take a stab:
NBA: best Spurs, worst Timberwolves
MLB: best Red Sox, worst Marlins (despite their two titles, f-in Jose Mesa)
NHL: best Red Wings, worst Coyotes

But I'm surprised by the number of people who should know better (health care workers, my fellow HR professionals) that get the initials wrong.

The 13-13 tie game.
I used to see him at the CCRB working out with Jared Lancer.
I don't think he ever played very much at UM except for special teams.
|1 week 1 day ago||A former boss of mine had Lou's book on display in his office||
This boss was a meathead Notre Dame subway alumnus. Lou's book was titled "Winning Every Day." I noticed the book and said "I think Lou forgot to have his team read that book this year." It was fall 1999 and South Carolina had just finished Lou's first season as head coach with an 0-11 record. Their average game score 25-8, and the only close score was an 11-10 home loss to Vanderbilt.
Dave didn't get it.

during seasons when we had beaten them, esp. if we had better records than they did.
One more thing I miss about days gone by.
Now I can't do it. It will take a lot of losing by MSU and OSU to bring back that back-slapping B1G boosterism.

|1 week 6 days ago||Two minor things I noticed when reading that article||
1. California governor Jerry Brown - just like today
2. Coach Joe Paterno, "who is widely respected for his honorable approach to the game." - that is not just like today.
Good article, M-Dog is right in that much of it could be written today.
I find it interesting that the unadjusted dollar price of a top-of-the-line helmet is not that different. Described as "costing up to $100." The high-end ones these days cost $150-$250. Not that big of a shift in 36+ years.
