|9 hours 12 min ago||Some offense and returning in 1996, more in 1997||
Actually had slightly more carries and receptions in 1996 than 1997, but more yards doing each in 1997. And while his punt return average was low before hitting the big one against OSU, he did have a few decent returns (a long of 31 in the awful bowl vs. Bama). That he has done so well returning INTs as a pro (16.2 ypr, with 11 TDs) is interesting, since he averaged <1 yard per INT return his senior season and only 4.5ypr for his Michigan career.

Digital photography and streaming video in particular ruined it. It was a lighthearted episode of weirdness, not sexy at all see that many people naked, just mind-boggling. When I was at UM in the mid-90s I don't recall seeing more than a few people taking pictures, mostly point and shoot 35mm cameras with tiny flashes, most likely leading to poor-quality images that you had to wait a day or two to see. Imagine if it was still going on...thousands of booze-altered kids instagramming their junk for all the world to see. It's just sad.

It's a pity we need him in the secondary (more speed back there please) because I'd love to see him carry the ball.

Of course he'd have the year to improve, but Jones is Gardner without the intelligence or throwing ability. Even on the road I think we can contain someone like Jones. Sophomore Braxton Miller >Junior Braxton Miller >>> Freshman Braxton Miller. Even if Miller has reached his peak he still tore us up.
|4 days 14 hours ago||Starting with your "it's easier" sentence we align completely||
It does get easier as I get older. I withdrew emotionally as this season wore on, which I never could have forseen given how confident and enthusiastic I felt at UTL II.
I live in Ohio and the way some of these people behave is appalling. The governor should be ashamed of himself for his "M-Free" proclamation. I would scorn that level of dorkmanship in a Game week column from The Lantern, never mind from the state's highest elected official. I suppose we cannot expect grace and dignity from a fanbase whose heroes include a psychopathic Woody Hayes and the amorally hypocritical Jim Tressel. But of course the biggest pisser of all is that our team did not win, so we can't toss Kasich's missive in the Ha Ha file with Terry Glenn's "we should win by two or three touchdowns" prediction.
Your handle is excellent btw.

If so, nice bulletin board material, Al. Terry Glenn is on deck.

If I had gone to sleep after the ND game and woke up today I'd be like WTF? Who am I kidding, I'm saying WTF anyway. As bitter as I am about the fizzling of this season, I have no real yearning to dump Hoke. I can forgive a lot if he makes the kind of big boy (no visual pun intended) decisions that Beilein made when his staff wasn't cutting it. If he keeps Borges because he's grateful for Al giving him a ride to work, all bets are off.

Al goes about things the wrong way? He is human and he needs to be loved just like everybody else does.

My wife really dislikes it, so I cringe in advance when it comes along. I never participate, with the exception of the Notre Dame game. First of all, she wasn't at the game with me. Secondly, Spencer Hall said a Michigan Man does not curse, unless it is in the name of Notre Dame. Seriously, fuck 'em.

The excellence demander in me is still pissed that Hobson didn't slow up to let Drake or someone else block for him. There was no other Florida player within 15 yards and he had two escorts. That would have been the football version of Jordan Morgan's dunk against Syracuse in the FInal Four.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||I thought of that game too.||
The recap indicates it was even worse than I thought. Gutless football dot com. Iowa's points came off two 27-yard field goals in the first half. Penn State got first and goal twice but got zero points. Their two safeties came on a botched snap that Iowa's punter kicked out the back of the endzone on purpose, and an intentional safety after Iowa intercepted a Michael Robinson pass at the 2, returned it to the 8, then moved backwards to their own 1 on three plays (not counting a penalty where they were so close to the endzone that zero yards were marched off), and then the punter took a knee. Snickers time!
|8 weeks 4 days ago||Yes, that was an awful day||
I got there late but there were empty seats everywhere. Saturday's "111k" crowd left me wondering how sparse the crowd would need to be for UM to admit it was under 100k. Also, Purdue had a long pass play that the receiver either dropped or caught then fell down, which would have likely meant a loss. The 1995 and 1996 Purdue games were the nadir of offense in the Carr era.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||My first Minn game also, I was a high school freshman||
My brother was a freshman at UM. My mom and sister left at halftime, my dad and I stayed until late in the 3rd quarter. We were sitting on the east sideline, section 3 or 4 near the upper stadium entrances. Rainwater was cascading down the steps. We went back to West Quad to attempt drying out in the lounge near the Thompson St. entrance, waiting for my brother to give up and come back. Third UM game ever for me. Saturday will by my 10th against Minnesota and 99th overall.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||That was the flag-planting era||
I believe it was Maroney who planted the Minn flag at midfield after the win. Or tried to, it's artificial turf dude. I'm glad that era has passed. Plus Minny had a cheap-shotting DB who was diving at our wideouts' knees after the whistle and braying at the crowd. Very frustrating day.

Probably their favorite YouTube video, followed closely by the Oregon Cheer version of Gangnam Style. Unfortunate consequence: my 3yo son saw the Brutus Buckeye at Build-A-Bear, recognized it from the CMM video, and wanted to get choose him. I was able to persuade him to get a monkey instead. My 6yo daughter (unprompted) boos Brutus' participation.
Counterpoint to this whole thing: the Midas Touch video featuring Goldy Gopher, which was awesome:

Sent this morning through the website:
Banning seat cushions at Michigan Stadium under the guise of "safety" while offering to rent them for $35 (really $42 after the generous discount expires at midnight) is a new low for the Athletic Department. What is unsafe about me bringing an officially licensed collegiate product Michigan seat cushion to my seat in Michigan Stadium? I can choose to sit on an aluminum seat for 3-4 hours or pay another $5-$6 per game, in advance. So the difference between unsafe and safe is a few more nibbles at season ticketholders' well-chewed wallets.
I vividly remember the first game when purses and water bottles were banned. The long lines outside the gates on that hot day were tremendous. Those who trot back to their cars with their wives' purses will be champions. Come to your senses before the season opener.
I can't wait to see what you think of next; I'd make an absurd suggestion but the line between today's absurdity and next season's reality is getting very blurry for the Michigan Athletic Department.

I guess that's gone. Also a game against Cincinnati in 2017, which doesn't appear on UM's site. Since we have no other non-conf games scheduled, uh...
With three non-conference games every year I anticipate a pattern of
MAC opponent home game,
Big-ish name opponent home-and-home (Arkansas 2018 & 2019, Virginia Tech 2020 & 2021), and
Middle of the road opponent, ideally a lower echolon ACQ team willing to play a single road game at Michigan or play two games at Michigan in return for a single visit, perhaps teams like North Carolina, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, TCU, Texas Tech. Norndn
