Of course the only person I've ever heard sing that song is a Miami grad from Cleveland who works for us in Dallas.
|5 hours 44 min ago||Piux XI HS in Milwaukee||
has distinguished boys and girls basketball programs, though the girls have won more state tiles. Think of them as a Catholic HS version of UConn. Anyway, the teams are known as the "Popes" and "Lady Popes," respectively.

Part of what I meant by "overwhelming" was the personal property security angle. A young Romani girl tried to sell us something worthless in the Colosseum metro station. When we turned her down she deftly stepped on my foot. Having to be constantly on guard for pickpockets and scammers was tiring.
Actually the worst such experience on our trip was in Naples, a guy in a very official looking blazer took it upon himself to guide us from the Rome train to the Circumvesuviana station. He wasn't a station or government employee, just a leech. He then got aggressive when I didn't give him a fat tip. I ultimately gave him one Euro when he was expecting more, and he cursed me volubly in Italian.

Benedict XVI was new, only two weeks on the job. We were in Piazza San Pietro for his Sunday address from the papal apartments window. He did a nice job working to the crowd, speaking in several languages. Biggest cheer was when he addressed the hundreds of Spanish teens on a group visit.
There are some things we didn't get to see (Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel) but we saw lots of great stuff. I would like to go again someday.
I thought Rome was wonderful but overwhelming at the same time. We spent a few days in Sorrento and on Capri afterwards and it was a nice contrast, much more relaxing.

Ultimate STFU points.

Excellent parody, they have the format nailed. And I applaud the willigness to make themselves the butts (heh) of the joke as well.

but I'm probably not the target market.
|5 days 23 hours ago||What happens when one of them gets ejected for targeting?||
Say, for getting shoved onto a Michigan State player by another Michigan State player.
What if they then switched jerseys? The Killer Bees tag team hijinks script practically writes itself.

I've been inside the stadiums at OSU, Purdue, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Northwestern, but the only one where I've seen a game is Northwestern. Reaching our seats in the northwest corner was supremely awkward.
|6 days 12 min ago||The autumn-only bleachers at OSU||
My best friend since fifth grade attended OSU. He was in the Naval ROTC program for a while and the unit earned money by cleaning the stadium after games. He recalls finding myriad nuts, bolts, and washers under those temporary bleachers and not trusting them as a result.

(I realize that encapsulates my undergraduate career pretty nicely).
to get into a class taught by Ralph Williams or Sidney Fine.
I took several terrific literature classes before moving from LS&A to the B school. Two Great Books classes taught by Robert Wallin, and an English class subtitled "Visions and Revisions," in which we read and compared pairings of books. The pair of "creation myths" was Paradise Lost and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

We didn't win by much but I remember two plays.
1. Nunes (Syracuse QB) lost a ton of yards on one desperate game of tag in the backfield, picture Gardner against ND UTL 2 with a downfield out of bounds heave instead of the ridiculous gift TD...two points instead of six.
2. One of our DBs flattened a Syracuse receiver with a shoulder to the chest despite a major size disadvantage. Might have been Todd Howard.

I hadn't ever heard that Pryce was in trouble, just that he was one very large guy wearing a single jersey number in an era when they didn't do that, and then he left.

A three-sport version:
The refs measure and rule Barrett short. (net gain: 1 conference division title plus a great lake full of intangibles)
Morgan's tip-in goes in against Indiana. (net gain: 1 Big Ten title)
Any SOG goes in against Minnesota-Duluth. (net gain: 1 national title)

Four of which I was away, studying (term used loosely) in Ann Arbor. Three years after I came home they dropped the alternative format and went to hip hop R&B. I basically quit listening to the radio at that point.
