You're kidding me, right?

Urban is from Ohio, coached at OSU as an assistant and alway wanted to be the head coach at Ohio State.  Ohio State is one of the few universities that can compete from a revenue standpoint with Texas.  Ohio State will match any offer Texas or any other university makes to keep Urb as long as Urb is in good standing with the university. Period.  He's not going anywhere unless it's the NFL, retirement, or is removed due to lack of performance or ethics.

...and another thing!!!

How about this as it pertains to maturity...

I'll start calling DickRod by his actual name when Brady Hoke actually starts calling my school "THE Ohio State University", or "OSU", or "Ohio STATE" or "That team that keep kicking my ass"...instead of "Ohio"...

By the way, you haven't beaten a full strength Ohio State team in 9 years...2011 doesn't count, as the you squeaked by a team that wasn't being coached by Tressel, and the vacated 2010 game...you still lost 37-7.

You're 2-10 against OSU since 2001.  I don't say that to rub it in, but to help everyone realize their diluted.  Stop looking at your program through maize and blue colored glasses and go fix it, for the good of the conference.

Maturity? Really, is that all you got?

1.) It's a rivalry, gentlemen.  Of COURSE I'm going to refer to him as "DickRod"...that's a holdover from those who played him when he was at WVU...and is used today by those in the Pac-10...er....12.

2.) As far as maturity goes, are you kidding?  I gave a you a fair and balanced review of your program (which has been in shambles for the better part of a decade) and you want to bring up maturity?  Cause we all know the defining quality of the rivalry between Ohio State and "That School Up North" is maturity.

3.) The defense on these boards by U of M fans of a arrogant, self-serving, petty,  coach who went 15-22, thought he was bigger than the program, never finished higher than 7th in the B1G, disrespected all of your tradition, forced a lifelong Michigan family (the Borens) to become so disgusted with the program that they not only transfer, but transfer to your biggest rival, alienated most of your boosters and important alumni, and gets the program placed on minor probation is breathtaking.  If this were the profile of a former coach at Ohio State, we wouldn't even acknowledge he coached our program, let alone defend him.

4.) You'll notice my first point was to blame the guy who hired "DickRod"....

5.) "DickRod" gets the second most blame, cause you're right, he didn't hire himself, he just set your program back a decade after he go there, by being himself.

6.) Why do you think your five QBs transferred?  Cause they hired "DickRod"...Ryan Mallet in a U of M uniform (even those FUGLY alternative uniforms) would have looked pretty good under a Les Miles or Brady Hoke style system, no?

7.) Don't talk to me about buying players.  Again, if you're going to make statements, please back them up with actual facts, not petty conjecture because you're bitter I'm right.  Terrelle Pryor was not “purchased” regardless of what he did once he enrolled at THE Ohio State University.  If you're basing DickRod's lack of success on the failure to secure one player, then that proves he wasn't a good coach anyway.  Last I checked, Denard ended up being a pretty good QB....well, RB/WR that played QB for U of M.  He was up for as many Heisman trophies as Pryor was.

8.) "DickRod" will continue to be referred to as "DickRod", and frankly, other than my desire to see U of M actually return to national prominence to help Ohio State and the B1G, I wish you would have extended the guy's contract for 30 years, ensuring a 25-5 record for OSU against their biggest rival for the next 30 years. I'll bet the OSU and MSU alumni would have even thrown in to help pay his salary.

wow...

Carr went 11-2 in 2006, then  lost a very talented senior/junior class (#2 in the country going into "The Game").  He then proceeded to go 9-4 with a young team, improving as the season went along, won his final bowl game against Florida (an SEC team) and was pretty much forced into retirement.

While Lloyd wasn't Bo, he didn't exactly leave the program in shambles for DickRod.  Had Michigan hired a "Michigan Man" like a Les Miles, or Brady Hoke, their systems would have been more compatible with the players that were currently left over from the Llyod Carr era.

Instead they went to the complete opposite of the spectrum with a arrogant, self agrandizing, egomaniac who thought he was bigger than "The winningest college program history", who ran a system that was 100% uncompatible with the on the players on the roster he inherited.  (Thank you by the way for the Boren brothers - a direct result of DickRod.)  DickRod went 15-22, had one winning recored and finished no higher than 7th in the B1G, and lost the only bowl game he coached for U of M, and put the program on minor probation.  All while recruiting players who do not fit the current system of Brady Hoke, further hindering the U of M programs progress to return to consistantly finishing second in the B1G and returning to national relevence.  Had DickRod been given another 2-3 seasons, would it have worked?  Maybe, but we'll never know.

Regardless of whether or not it would have worked, it is undeniable that his selection as the head coach to follow Lloyd Carr was an unmitigated disaster and huge mistake, especially in light of the direction they took after DickRod was removed.

Please stop with your ignorance.  That is the type of attitude that will keep U of M as a mediocre team for years to come.  Something the B1G and THE Ohio State University cannot afford.

No to rub salt in the wound, but...

I posted part of this elsware, however this thread is more active...

Full Disclosure...I went to THE Ohio State University

This is a bad football team, however I don't blame Brady Hoke, he'll turn it around eventually.  I would blame the AD responsible for hiring DickRod....and DickRod.  He set your program back 10 years.  He had no respect for your tradition, vacated any semblence of respect for for what was traditionally Michigan football (Pro style, drop back passers, big recievers, I-Formation running, 50/50 offensive ballance, and tough D) and replaced it with a spread offense and NO DEFENSE...NONE....like he didn't know you even had to play defense.

Due to his recruituing, and lack of respect for the tradions of your program, many of the players currently at U of M are not a fit for what Brady Hoke is trying to accomplish...or what U of M traditionally has tried to accomplish throughout the program's history.  DickRod was not a "MichiganMan" and had no interest in being one.  It's going to take Brady Hoke 3-5 years to undo the damage of the DickRod years.

Some U of M fans have mentioned that Urb has been able to take Tressel's players and become successful quickly while Brady has struggled.

While many people criticized Tressel for having a conservative offense, people forget he was a "chameleon" offensively.  When he had a big running back and a drop back passer he ran more of a pro style, drop back offense (Krenzel and Clarett, etc...); he ran a lot of wide open spread style offensive packages when he had Troy Smith, Teddy Ginn, Jr., Anthony Gonzalez etc...same for when he finally started to trust Pryor with the football...while still maintaining tradional OSU balance running the football.

Meyer has been able to turn the offense around because despite Tressel being conservative, he was at least recruiting players that  fit with Urban's offensive system.  Brady Hoke did not have this luxury.

I miss U of M being a good team, the B1G needs them to be nationally relavent again; OSU needs them to be nationally relavent again.  However, "The Game" this year should not be close, and unfortunately for U of M, Urban, Braxton and company might have to try and hang 70 on your D...and not to be disrespectful, but to make a statement to the BCS, which currently has us 4th due to a lack of respect for anyone in the B1G, despite OSU will have won 24 straight going into that game.

I don't want to pile on...
