I have a friend (well, acquaintance) who went to KSU. And I agree, because of that ****** alone, this is a MUST win.

Great. I'm looking forward to staying up until 1:30am to watch Michigan take it to the wire and probably lose in a game in which they have 5 or 6 dozen chances to win handily, and then my kids will get me up at 6:30 like they do every morning. Can't wait.

Ah I see. I suppose my argument did change slightly throughout the debate as my original point was shot down in flames.

FTR I agree with you.

Seasons as head coach in a BCS conference
I think we have a much better sample size for one than we do for the other.
|1 day 15 hours ago||You are correct on the star||
You are correct on the star rating fact and I was wrong to post that without checking my facts in advance, however I still believe that no team, no matter how good the coaches are, can sustain CHAMPIONSHIP levels of success on a yearly basis with how msu is recruiting.
If it were really about development and talent was only in the eye of the beholder, then Rod Marinelli would have at least 4 super bowl rings right now.
|1 day 15 hours ago||It isn't a black and white||
It isn't a black and white issue. Sparty is good because their coaches are unbelievably good at fundamental skill development and creating as close to a flawless system as you can with the players they have. I'm not saying they aren't gonna be good for the next few years, I'm saying they are not going to be winning championships like this. You can be a 9-10 win team without winning championships.

Dantonio has established a program that is going to produce 8-10 wins a year for a while; even if he retires in the next year or two the table is set with a solid coaching tree. However they cannot sustain a championship-level of success with how they have been recruiting and will likely continue to recruit in the foreseeable future. They capitalized on a good amount of talent during the Rodriguez years and the OSU coaching transition that it is paying dividends now, and they have done a good job of developing low-rated recruits but as the talent they have accumulated begins to cycle off the roster they will take a step back.
Don't get me wrong, their coaching is phenominal and they should expect to be in "the discussion" for years to come but I think they won't be going to another Rose Bowl for a long, long time.

I have this weird feeling we are gonna pound them in their stadium next year.
|1 day 19 hours ago||Yes. There is really nothing||
Yes. There is really nothing tangible to show for it. The thing is OSU is at a pinnacle point. Michigan is the team that is rebuilding right now. This season has to feel like the 2006 season did for us (except they beat their biggest rival).

24-1 is hard to pull off but it deserves an asterisk that this is the worst Big Ten in decades.

I was gonna say, if Gus Johnson is "unbearable" what does it take to be bearable?
|2 days 2 hours ago||That is not an unreasonable||
That is not an unreasonable thing to hope for. Knowing that Roby is going pro, and assuming that Michael Bennett and Shazier may also go pro, an already mediocre defense is going to lose a lot of talent and experience and the thing that made this offense so unstoppable this year- Hyde and that o line, will be gone. As we have learned having good recruits who are young without many juniors and seniors to fall back on can turn out very poorly.

They have earned it. I am much happier with them winning the Big Ten and getting their Rose Bowl than seeing Urban go 25-0 and play for a national title. Both teams will be rebuilding next year. There is a very good chance he will be going into year 4 without a conference championship.

At Alabama, his chances for INT's would be helped by Hand's pass rush.
At Michigan, his chances for INT's would be helped by Big Ten QB's.

"100% committed" seems to be misused more than the word "literally."

I mean, if Nick Saban can convince DaShawn Hand that Alabama has a better engineering program than Michigan, I'm sure Urban can convince McDowell that OSU has better defensive coaching than Michigan. Kids will believe anything these days.

I'm going to make a personal commitment to pretend, at least in my head, like football does not exist for the next 9 months (except for one day). There are supposedly other things to care about out there.

I would like to pretend I was making a snarky jab at the replay officials but I completely forgot about that. Still, putting the ball up 45 times, it is impressive Gardner did not throw a single INT.

|1 week 1 day ago||I have two kids who are not||
I have two kids who are not quite old enough to play sports, but I hated the game. Probably because I was surrounded by easily the most obnoxious opposing fans I have ever seen personally (yes, even worse than those in the 2010 MSU game). Like the guy behind me who said, after EVERY Michigan TD, "they aren't gonna score again! their offense sucks! they just got lucky!" or the guy in front of me who complained about EVERY SINGLE SPOT, offense or defense. Or the guy three rows down who turned around every 15 minutes to yell 'O-H' or the guy standing in the aisle the whole game mocking every one of Michigan's cheers. I wouldn't have been a d-bag about it, but I was really hoping to get to experience the looks on their faces if we had won.

Who could have predicted earlier in the year that Michigan would not have had a single turnover in this game (2 point conversion plays don't count in the stats)?

I don't know man. I have to believe we could have gotten at least one more stop had James Ross been in the game. He is one of the few guys in our front seven that comes close to Miller's quickness.

|1 week 1 day ago||If you read Brandon's||
If you read Brandon's statement I think it was obvious that Borges' job is anything but safe. I don't know if this changes his future with Michigan but I have been ambivalent to him since The Game. It would seem that there is something there in his gameplanning that may work if they can stabilize this offensive line (which, let's face it, has come a long way since the Nebraska game). OTOH, I am equally frustrated that he couldn't put a gameplan like this together when they played PSU, Nebraska, Iowa, MSU, Akron, UConn, etc. I am thinking I will still have a shred of optimism if they don't fire him, but much more if they do.
|1 week 1 day ago||Actually, I kind of respect||
Actually, I kind of respect him for that. Is OSU really the #2 team in the country? Or are they there by default because the MSM views a missed 2-point conversion as the difference between #2 and being outside the top 10 (because you know how far they would have fallen had Gardner just thrown the ball two feet to the right)?
