Please define great with an example...it's easy to judge by our own rational, but by yours no one has been great other than kovacs |

My iphone still has everything in English... More importantly I'm worried about Lewan leaving early to, but I'm guessing Kali's might get a shot first. |

Its no a question whether or not he has an interest in Sparty, but whether sparty has an interest in him...you know they recruit nationally now! |

Who cares how the O$U fans react, today is about a michigan win! Lets appreciate that, not the meltdown of our oppenent. |
| 1 year 41 weeks ago | TKovacs |
Kovacs looked like a 5 star recruit today, in the right spot, making the right plays...Herron might get most of the TV time, but Kovacs made the big plays. To be honest I've never been a big fan of Kovacs, but today he made me a believer. |

title is misleading, but only to someone who wanted to see a commitment post. I'll trust to great defensive coordinators to judge wether or not RJS is worthy of an offer this early in the process.
Plus you have to love to see him recruiting michigan players. |

I don't think many TE's were on Michigan's radar before Hoke. |

I think Hemingway has great hands and understanding of positioning for deep balls...as far as a burner he's not that guy, but his shiftiness is suprising. He's easily turning into one of my favorite receivers. |
| 2 years 39 weeks ago | Bad joke |
If you watched the game on TV you might have noticed this...about 5 or 6 UMass players grew up UofM fans and had an opportunity to live their dream playing in Michigan stadium.
Would have meant more if we blown them out, but still entertaining.

| 2 years 39 weeks ago | Defense |
IMHO, what happened is that after Uconn and ND we had expectations...we thought our D was serviceable. We forgot about the actual condition of the D, starting RS Freshman, a walk-on and converted WR's. While this game wasn't our best showing, the sky isn't falling. I am concerned that the more games we play the easier it will be for other teams to find our holes...which are numerous.
With D. Rob I think we can be competitive in most of our games...but until we gain experience and get a defensive team which is mainly led by Jr and Sr we will have this uneasiness...unfortunately I don't see that happening this year. |
| 2 years 44 weeks ago | S. Brown |
How is S. Brown left out of the #2 defensive player from last years squad...he played well enough to get drafted...
As far as this year below is my top 5 1) martin - hard to argue this one 2) Van Bergen - it will help that he's playing on the DL with Martin. He's not the most talented player, but he'll never give up. 3) Roh - He was a good pash rusher as a true freshman, but to be considered to be in the top 2 he'd have to improve his pass rushing skills and be more of an all around player. Should help that our DL is solid this year. 4) Woolfork - He's a best player in the secondary, my only concern will be him against the #1 WR's on other teams... 5) Mouton? - Gets a litte sketchy here, this is more of a hope than reality...just depends if our LB's are allowed to attack or react. |
| 2 years 47 weeks ago | S. Brown |
I'm hoping he becomes the next S. Brown, lost for a bit, but once they found the right position for him he turned into one of our better players on D. |
| 2 years 49 weeks ago | Vlad |
I know Vlads injury was over 2 years ago, but I was wondering if he is a 100%. I'm still a little confused as to why RR burned his RS last year knowing that his knee wasn't ready. I'm still optimistic that Vlad can become the player he was projected to be before blowing out his ACL...he was offered by some of the top schools in the country.
|
| 2 years 49 weeks ago | Turner - CB |
Turner will start out as a CB and depending on how Avery, Talbott and Christian develop will determine where he will play. He'll only be a RS freshman this year. The main problem with our secondary is the lack of upperclassmen, as has already been pointed out. I believe RR has been recruiting enough CB in hopes of improving the situation, in 2 years, but for now we can only hope that our current players 1 don't get injured and 2 improve from last year (Floyd and Woolfork).
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure someone will...but in the 3-3-5 cover skills aren't as important as diagnosing the play and being in the right position becuase of that a player such as Christian and Turner who may not have game changing speed can play CB and excel. |
| 3 years 8 weeks ago | The next Gold? |
great to see him get drafted after a good senior year...not really sure where he fits in the NFL. I guess Gold made it as a small LB, so could Brown. |
| 3 years 24 weeks ago | class change? |
Why do people think there will be 4-5 changes. I think RR has made a point to recruit guys who won't waiver on their commitment like last year going as far as not letting them commit until they visit UofM. I'm not saying there won't be a decommit, I just don't think it will be as prominent as last year. It has also been clarified to Hankins that there is only one more spot. It seems as if RR is willing to take the best player available at a position of need (MLB, DL or OL) as can be seen by his most recent recruiting (Taylor, Black, Donnal...etc.) I also believe that RR has realized how much each move he does is scrutinized, so he will refrain from having a Peace situation. Overall I think there will only be one to two more players added that we don't expect, depending on what happenes with Parker. Hopefully he does choose UofM over USC. |
| 3 years 25 weeks ago | internet rumor |
This seems like an internet rumor that UofM fans just seem way to happy to jump on, below are some points that were brought up on a MSU board: In the past week. -Dantonio went to his "Dream Team" ceremony and was with him most of the night, many pictures of them. -Went to a Basketball game and sat next to Dantonio and I think Greg Jones. Was decked out in State gear. -Don't remember what medium it was, but told the press (paraphrasing) that he is definitely going to Michigan State. |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | Magnus |
I guess it somewhat of a moot point since he's looking to move on, but I where he is on the depth chart is expected because of the aformentioned reasons. Mainly my disappointment comes from the fact that in the last year more than any that I've known, there has been a lot of emphasis put on the fact that we don't have junior or senior players on the field and have a lot of younger players starting, which leads to part of our inept defense. If we want to turn it around players such as B. Smith need to stick around and develop. If people continue to transfer because they aren't on the 2 deep then we will have the same conversation about young players in 2 years. |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | Cassel |
How many Cassel's have they had though? For all the top recruits they've had you'd expect to hear about more than just 1. I wonder how many Cassel type players didn't develop because of lack of playing. |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | USC safety recruiting |
Did anyone notice that in 2009 USC recruiting 4 safteys, the #2, #4, #5 & #6 safeties overall...I know they can recruit, but sometimes its just sick. This year they have the #1 & #2 WR's (per scout) I'm guessing thats why some guys are looking away, there's a difference between competition and trying to beat out 1st round NFL picks every years. Guys who could be NFL players will never get a chance to develop because they won't see the field. |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | 1 year |
was he really expected to beat out Leach or Demens in his RS Freshman year in the first year at the position? I'm still optimistice that by his junior year he develop into a starter, especially given the condition of our LB corp. I'm also disappointed that 3 of our top 4 recruits (per scout) from the 2008 class have or are planning to transfer (Boo boo, Smith and McGuffie) |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | B. Smith |
I don't see how he doesn't fit into Gerg's D? Can someone please explain it to me? As far as his athletic traits go he seems to have the skills to fit in any D as long as he's willing to move to the best position to fit his skill set. I think thats the issue. He sees himself as a safety and the coaches see him as a LB or Hybrid LB/S. |
| 3 years 26 weeks ago | Hankins is not the same |
The only thing they have in common is being excited about their last visit and they are DL...after that their situations are completely different. Big Will committed to UofM and then decided to take visits to other schools Hankins had to wait to his senior year to get an offer. Big Will was a consensus 5* and had early offers from everyone in the country Hankins had some decent offers, but had to prove himself Big Will has and always will be Blue. Hankins is making his decision soon If anything Big Will was like Marcus Hall... |
| 3 years 27 weeks ago | Cam Gordon |
As far as internet rumors go didn't Cam decid to move to D after seeing all the depth at WR? I think I saw it on GBMW. |
| 3 years 28 weeks ago | TomVH |
TomVH should also be in that sentence... |
| 3 years 28 weeks ago | Talbott |
Isn't Talbott (DT) looking around still? If so that leaves another 2 openings (his brother also). Point is that alot can happen before signing day and I think RR is doing a great job making sure he has the best class possible. |
| 3 years 28 weeks ago | commits |
Right now there are 2 guys who might have trouble qualitying (Kindard and Drake) and there's always a chance of a decommit. Personally I just think that they are recruiting until the end becuase nothing is guarenteed until the LOI is signed. I don't believe it is the RR is going to squeeze a guy out approace. I believe the coaching staff has made a point to recruit players who wouldn't decommit, so why would they force someone out? Regardless, if we have 2 guys who don't qualify, that leaves us with 5 open spots and therefore we have a recruit more players. |

| 3 years 31 weeks ago | Barr |
What about A. Barr, I know he was supposed to be a ND lock because of family ties (I think), but does this move UofM back in the picture? I know he's not a commit, but the turmoil could cause him to look elsewhere. |
| 3 years 32 weeks ago | we might not feel that great |
we might not feel that great about some of the prospects we have left. I'm starting to notice that RR is a big bird in the hand guy... |
| 3 years 32 weeks ago | knowledge of the game |
I'm guessing that these elite high school athletes have never had too understand the game, but could simply let their athletic abilities take over for their lack of understanding of the game, where as the walk on players have had to overcome their lack of athletic ability through a better understanding of the game. This may be the reason that walk on players have moved ahead of more atheletic players I also think a position switch such as QB/Safety to LB may be dramatic enough that some of these players have to learn more. Regardless I think long term players such as Fitzgerald, Smith, Vlad, Big Will and Demens will contribute in a bigger way, it just may take more time. |
| 3 years 35 weeks ago | Big Will |
This is exactly what I remember seeing, he was blown off the ball and was in on the long runs, I don't remember how much of an effect he had on that, but I do remember after about 3-4 plays they put Martin back in. I just think Big Will has to learn the proper technique, he has the size. Martin seemed much better suited to play right away out of high school. |

| 3 years 39 weeks ago | Vlad |
Vlad was going to OSU... I wonder how excited Barr is about ND after watching them lose to UofM and with the prospect of Weis being fired at the end of the year. |
| 3 years 39 weeks ago | last season |
If last season taught us nothing, it's that we can't look past anyone just yet...we still have a freshman starting QB. while I think we win, I want to see UofM destroy them, reestablish themselves as a dominant team and leave now doubt that we are back. |
| 3 years 40 weeks ago | Syracuse... |
I think people are leaving out the fact that our D coordinator was the head coach of a team that had the monumental upset of ND last year (Syracuse)...that if nothing else should help us out. As far as ND's D, it should be improve greatly with GT old D coordinator (Tenaua???). I can't breakdown the positions, but I don't think the seconadry will matter as much as the front 7 against UofM. If we can win in the trenches we have a good chance to win the game. Claussen did get rattled his freshman and sophomore year, but he's a junior now and it's expected he develop and not get rattled so easily. I'm hoping Graham and Martin can rattle him at least one more time. Overall I think we'll see an improved ND team from last year, but we'll also see a greatly improved UofM team. If UofM can win this everyone will believe they have finally turned the corner from the 3-9 season and Weiss will be getting his walking papers before the end of the season, IMHO. |
| 3 years 40 weeks ago | Bull rush |
A true freshman was bull rushing their offensive line...he isn't even known for his power, after seeing that you realize this guy has a chance to be special. |
| 3 years 44 weeks ago | position switch / redshirt |
I don't think D-Rob can do either. Our depth at QB will not allow it. As we saw last year and will learn, if you a have a running QB the chances for injuries increase, therefore you need more than 2 competent QB's to ensure a good season. If Forcier goes down we have D-Rob. We all know what Sheridan is, do any michigan fans feel this guy can get us to a bowl game? So my point is, I can't see D-Rob redshirting or switching positions until Gardner and Jones come in and that is at the earliest. The only way he switches is assuming he just doesn't fit the mold of a RR QB, which I don't think can be said at this point. Regardless I look forward to some solid QB competition in the future!!!! |
| 4 years 2 days ago | 4* |
I doubt we're going after him, too many stars. |
| 4 years 6 days ago | Gholston |
Gholston is a great athlete, but not a great player...yet. He recently got owned at a camp by a nobody from michigan can't remember his name (think it's Kruse or something like that). He didn't even have a page on Rivals before the camp, but I think he has one after. Point is that Gholston hasn't touched his football potential and still needs a lot of work to reach the level. Long run hard work just as much as ability will decide who the best player in the state was. |
| 4 years 1 week ago | camps |
don't alot of players make a name for themselves at summer camps, but he's not attending them? This gives Scout and Rivals less of a chance to evaluate him, which will most likely leave him at a 3* rankings. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | depth |
If the case is that so many 3* are panning out for UofM then why did we have so little deth going into 2008? Why will we be in the same position in 2009? It can't all be chalked up to attrition... Honestly I'm not saying RR is a bad recruiter, I'm just saying the juries out. To say he has been a great recruiter while at Michigan is premature. When you also compare the amount of top tier recruits from LC to RR you notice LC recruited at a higher level (per scout and rivals). I don't doubt RR can win with these recruits, I just wonder at what level? Will UofM be competing for a NC, which is what we expect or will we be fighting for 2nd in the Big Ten? |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | still debating - facts |
Ok, this is my last post since I probably have at least 10 in this thread and it seems redundant at this point. Kansas could have argueable been 1 win away 2007 This is only in the last 4 years and there are 5 teams who weren't a top tier team (For example USC, OSU, UofM, Florida) who were 1 win away. This is only 1 year that WVU was in the race. I don't know how long RR was at WVU, but from 2004 to 2007, in the Big East with his 3* players he only won the division outright once (2005) and lost 2 games on average for the other 3 years, let me reiterate in the Big East, not the Big Ten. No team in the Big East recruits on the level of OSU, PSU and UofM, but it seem RR is still recruiting on that same level as if he were in this Big East. So what makes you think that level of talent/recruits will make RR just as successful in the Big Ten against what should be considered a much more talented league? |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Up and down |
just as quickly as Williamson, Hopkins and Robinson go up, Gardner and others can go down. I think we'll have a good class, but per the rankings sites our class will only be good because of volume of players not the amount of playmakers. If we end up with Wilson (OL), Henderson (OL), Clay (RB), Knight (CB), Mathis (CB) and Christian (CB) then I can see the top 15 class, but at this point (very early) its to far away to say we'll end up with those players. Who would have thought we would have lost out on Wood 3 months ago? |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Shaw |
Has Shaw proven anything yet? He hasn't even proven to be a top talent, he has showne flashes, but so did Butler. As I already pointed out, RR did a great job of keeping the class together, but to say he's a great recruiter at this stage is a stretch. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | 3-9 |
having 4 freshman perform well is special, on a bowl team, not on a 3-9 team. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Talent |
Everyone keeps deceiving themselves into thinking that RR abilty to find the Slatons/Whites and develop talent will make all the difference in the world. When you need the top tier B. Graham type players to take you over the top. I'd be very suprised if we ended up with a top 10 or 15 recruiting class this year. Only way this would happen is if we took a class of more than 25 because of attrition. Not because of getting the top talent. As far as 2008 recruiting, IMHO, the top players from that class at this, still a long way to go, are 1. Martin (LC) Point is as you noticed only one of these players is a RR recruit and the only reason he excelled is the system, the rest of the players were LC. So he still has yet to prove he is a great recruiter. I'll give him credit for keeping the class together and getting a good class last year, but I'm not sold on him being a top recruiter at this point. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | 1 win away |
1 win away, but how many teams can say that...Michigan in 2006 was 1 win away (OSU loss). I think alot of teams can say that they were 1 win away. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | 3* |
or they could be a Alex Mitchell, Chris Rogers, Keaston Cheatham, Pat Sharrow, Jeff Zuttah, Jeff Jansen, Mister Simpson, Chris Richards, Jason kates, Perry Dorrenstein, John Ferrera, David Cone. I think you guys get the point. For every Hart/Branch type player there are a slew of players who don't even make it to there senior year or barely contribute to the team. So the fact that we 9 3* or less per scout at this point and in 2009 we had 13 3* or less is a point of concern in my opinion. Remember RR won in the Big East with 3* talent littering the field, not in the Big Ten. He may be able to develop talent better and LC did, but saying every 3* will build competent depth goes against history. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Explain |
why was Lloyed a bad recruiter? He always got a ton of solid players, just some didn't pan out. I don't know how you can say RR is a great recruiter when we haven't even seen one of his classes play for 4 years, I'm couting 08' as Lloyds class since he chose most of those players. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Why? |
Why even post this if you're not going to say who, so another rumor can be started? |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | rumors |
How many sites have rumors started on them? Pretty much all of them! Eroc's blog has information that I'd be unable to get on other free boards and focuses on Michigan football and what surrounds it. Personally I'm not worried about page layout or grammar, it's the content that matters to me. While I like this board, it seems more interested in making adolescent comments about posters and having spell check and grammar wars than talking UofM Football. My point is that no place is perfect, but if you don't like what you see you just move on. If you don't want to read about rumors, don't open the this link and don't got to Eroc's blog...seems simple enough. |
| 4 years 2 weeks ago | Gholston |
Heard he didn't make the BBQ, no loss I guess, always a MSU lock Heard Olayian (spelling) also didn't come out, that one is disappointing since he looks like a top tier player from instate. |
| 4 years 3 weeks ago | Grady |
I know Wermers was one, don't know if that's the guy they're talking about. I'm assuming the other guy is Grady. From my undertsanding Wermers didn't fit the offensive style and we all know what his happening with Grady. |
| 4 years 5 weeks ago | McFarlin |
All you need to know about McFarlin is: McFarlin once visited the Virgin Islands. They are now The Islands. McFarlin's calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd; no one fools McFarlin. McFarlin can speak braille. The reason newborn babies cry is because they know they have just entered a world with McFarlin. He was just adolescent and didn't add anything constructive, but instead caused problems. As far as you being McFarlin, I can't say, but it does seem odd that you wanted to use your first post on this board to find out about him. When I felt it necessary to join, instead of just reading free posts, it was because I wanted to comment about UofM football, not about a poster. |
| 4 years 6 weeks ago | dumb |
he's not dumb, just his thoughts and comments are dumb |
| 4 years 7 weeks ago | Kinard |
Is he a quality LB? At this point you can't say either way, but his offer list and his high school achievements wouldn't point to a quality D1 LB. He does have the athleticism, but that's all you can say right now. So you named off 5 quality players, in your opinion, but UofM has 10 recruits, does that mean the other 5 we're just "hoping" contribute. This is what worries fans. We all understand that many recruits don't pan out, but the larger percent of top recruits you have the better chance you'll get players to pan out, look at USC, Florida and OSU. If half your players are top players and the other half are lower ranked "projects" then you most likely won't have enough talent on you team to compete at the same level as the top teams in the country. This is what worries UofM fans and why we second guess the staff when they bring in a Drake or Dileo. |
| 4 years 7 weeks ago | Mouton |
Wasn't Mouton recruiting as a S, but is now a LB? |
| 4 years 7 weeks ago | darkhorse |
The player I think could come out of nowhere and get drafted is C. Brown, we all know he has the speed, but if he can break some tackles and show some elusviness I could see him being a 2nd day pick. If Mouton, Warren or Ezeh have a great year, they might come out early. I think B. Graham will become a better DE at UofM than Woodley. He always showed up big in the big games, MSU in particular comes to mind, even though we lost, we all know it wasn't because of his effort. |
| 4 years 7 weeks ago | Different system |
In Lloyd's system we could get away with 3 QB's because they were less prone to leave the pocket and take hits in the open field. That's probably why RR needs more quality QB's. I believe we are still going to get a 2nd QB in this class, but it's still early to get worried about it. From everything I've read RR is still trying to get that second option and at this point we look goof for a couple of prospects, Jones and Munchie. |
| 4 years 7 weeks ago | stokes? |
Has Stokes gone to a #3 option behind Jones and Munchie? I'd really like to see Michigan get another Tate type QB, very good passer who can scramble. While a player such as Denard would be exciting to watch I think for UofM to be nationally competitive they need a guy who can scamble just as well as he can pass. I know sheridan was that guy, honestly he was, he just sucked at both. |
| 4 years 8 weeks ago | Braxton Miller |
I thought OSU was having problmes recruiting was also because of B. Miller in 2011. He's supposed to be a top 5 QB and is pretty much already decided to go to OSU. So whoever chooses OSU will be stuck behind Pryor for a year or two and then most likely behind Miller for his next two years, only if Miller lives up to the hype. |
| 4 years 8 weeks ago | illegal? |
it's only made to be made into a big deal becuase IT'S ILLEGAL! Honestly I think it should be made legal, but until that time anyone who does it can go to jail. This reflects on a persons character, which would concern people during draft time. It doesn't mean they won't be successful in the NFL, it's just a red flag. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | schofield |
another 3* that ended up being a 4* after his senior year. not fast enough? He has had a great spring and looks like he might contribute this year. I also wouldn't trust recruiting websites 40 times, not everyone can run a 4.3 40 yard time. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | 3* players |
wasn't V. Smith a 3* last year and now he's the talk of camp. Vlad was a 3* on scout, can't remember the other sites and he could be a true freshman starter. Hawthorne was a 3* and is having a good camp. Omameh (spelling), Roundtree were only a 3* in 2008 I really don't feel like breaking down all of last years class, but RR has proven that he can find players that are not only good, but fit his system and are only 3*. At this point and moving forward, it may be best to trust his judgement instead of only agreeing with Scouts perception of players. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | Georgia & Alabama |
Right now he has UofM #1 with Georgia and Alabama in his top 5 without offering. I know many have him as a silent commit, but any worry about either of these schools if they do offer? |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | slot |
can he play in the slot? |
| 4 years 10 weeks ago | Dirk - 3 inches |
That is pretty impressive to be mentioned with Dirk. I googled him, below is what I found on ESPN: February, 2009: Smotrycz has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He can connect on jumpers from beyond 3-point range as well as score in the paint. Smotrycz has an effortless jumper and does a good job of getting his legs involved on the shot, which gives him the ability to connect from deep on his jumper. When he applies himself, he has the ability to cause match-up problems by taking bigger frontcourt players out on the perimeter with his shooting ability in addition to taking smaller defenders down to the block when he gets the opportunity to do so. Smotrycz also has very good vision and passing skills. He plays an unselfish brand of basketball at times, he plays little too unselfishly and does not look to exploit his advantage in terms of scoring the basketball. Smotrycz also has problems when he faces more athletic frontcourt players and tries to guard them. As long as he does not try to over-extend himself and maintains a high level of aggressiveness, Smotrycz can develop into an excellent frontcourt player on the next level. He just has to continue to work to overcome his tendency to disappear, which he should not do given his immense amount of talent. |
