|3 hours 14 min ago||for all of college football's faults...||
Stories like Clark's are what make it worthwhile. NFL or not, his life will likely be much better because of what football provided him.
|21 hours 56 min ago||I love that you emailed the AD about the awards||
(I'm not being sarcastic.)
|22 hours 40 min ago||I don't know about this||
I prefer to receive my football previews at least six weeks before the season so that I can have them translated into Latin and then read to me by someone dressed as a Roman town crier. Three or four weeks is going to leave me in a real pinch when it comes to that.
|1 day 2 hours ago||2015 v. 2016||
He's a name for the SG spot in the 2015 (not 2016) class, right?
I'm not totally sold on this (and I coached in the NBA for 83 years), but the fact that he played for a former assistant to Coach Beilein makes me feel better. I think you have to believe the staff has a really good sense of who they'd be getting.
Fun facts: Williams College's teams are called the Ephs. And their mascot is a purple cow.
|1 day 3 hours ago||He's shifty, but...||
...I think his straight-line speed is not great.
|1 day 17 hours ago||The NBA's agenda is to maximize profits||
It will do something about the Magic's owner if and when he threatens the pocketbooks of the other owners.
|1 day 17 hours ago||If your point is that "Redskins" is bad, I agree||
But that doesn't change anything re: Sterling or Silver. Silver doesn't defend "Redskins." And he can't control the NFL.
I understand your comparison. But it doesn't illuminate anything other than that the general public is inconsistent in how and when it cares about racism. That shouldn't surprise anyone.
|1 day 17 hours ago||I don't recommend any of those things||
And you're hunting in the wrong forest if you're looking for justice in terms of how public perception is managed to protect the value of businesses.
|1 day 17 hours ago||the NBA doesn't have any such teams (unless you count Warriors)||
And I'm pretty sure Adam Silver is Jewish.
|1 day 17 hours ago||it's about the perception of the league||
An NBA commissioner can kick out an owner for doing something that badly damages the league. This wasn't a morality test. It was a test of how badly keeping Sterling around would damage the NBA's bottom line. The answer was "a lot," so he was canned.
|2 days 1 hour ago||This is great to see||
Talk is often worthless or even harmful, IMHO, but Michigan needs some vocal confidence right now. If nothing else, I think DG will leave Michigan having done everything he could to get the Wolverines back to the top.
|3 days 18 hours ago||no one is intrinsically lucky||
But - when looking backward at events - it will be accurate to say that some were more fortunate than others.
|4 days 17 hours ago||Fish||
If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
If you teach a man to fish, he'll eat for the rest of his life.
If you teach a man to fish and give him a fish as compensation for work, well, you've gone and screwed everything up.
And if you teach a fish to fish, you've created a cannibal, you sick bastard.
|1 week 1 day ago||Wilson at 220||
It's a little hard to imagine he's gained that much good weight, but I suppose you never know with an 18 year old.
|1 week 2 days ago||Just my guess:||
I think the coaches would be happy enough with McQuaid as the only 2015 recruit. They'll have Spike and presumably Walton on the team in 2015. And they're in on a number of 2016 PGs.
|1 week 4 days ago||Anything is possible, but...||
JMo was a fifth year senior last year. He played with a confidence that he'd never shown before. His stats were better his first year on the court, yes, but he wasn't as valuable as he was last year (it's also not an apples to apples comparison, because his stats came from DMo finding him on pick-and-rolls in a way no other Michigan PG ever did again).
There is reason to be excited by Donnal. But it's a lot to ask that he outpace Michigan's defensive captain, a guy who played in four straight NCAA tournaments and who won two Big Ten titles.
|1 week 5 days ago||Sam was great!||
I always love this about him: When his job was in jeopardy, he had bins for food donations put in local grocery stores. If you wanted him fired, you put your donations in the "Fire Wyche" bin. If you wanted to keep him, you put your donations in the "Wyche Should Stay" bin. I don't remember how the vote came out, but he at least made something good out of his bad situation.
|1 week 5 days ago||Indeed||
I halfway expect next year's team to somehow be made up largely of high school juniors.
|1 week 5 days ago||Yep||
Coach Beilein brings things to the table that you don't often find in major college sports. Pitinio, Calipari, and others might give you a better chance at a national title, but I would consider a trade of Coach Beilein for one of those guys for exactly zero seconds. The value of the MBB team will go beyond wins and losses for at least as long as John Beilein is around.
|1 week 5 days ago||Bo Pelini - for this if nothing else||
|1 week 5 days ago||I'd like to see...||
...a walrus that farts fireworks when Michigan scores, but I'll bet the PETA people would be all up in arms about that.
|1 week 5 days ago||That's good||
You hair has lost some of its luster - and I say that as a friend.
|1 week 5 days ago||I hope this doesn't come off as fight-y||
But calming things down in the Ukraine is pretty tall order. There are people there who consider it a long-time family obligation to try to free Ukrainians from Russians - with violence if necessary. And there are people who consider themselves more Russian than Ukrainian. You have Putin using agents provocateurs on one side - so it's not always clear who represents what interests - and then fascists on the other side (though I don't mean to imply that all Ukrainian independence supporters are fascist).
There are no good answers there.
|1 week 6 days ago||Coach Hoke fired Borges||
That seems like a pretty powerful statement about who he held accountable.
|1 week 6 days ago||"I know people who did it, but they were neither human nor..."||
"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
|1 week 6 days ago||Seems strange not to have any OSU guys on that list||
They haven't lacked for recruiting.
|2 weeks 46 min ago||playing App State again?||
What do you mean "again"? Michigan has never played App State before. I would remember that - unless something really traumatic happened.
|2 weeks 1 hour ago||That's probably true to some extent||
I think a person can disagree with DB's view of a good game day experience, though, without seeing him as a chartoon character. FWIW, I think DB's done a lot of good things, but I think his goal of every Michigan game being a mini-Super Bowl is a misunderstanding of what makes college football great.
|2 weeks 2 hours ago||My guess:||
Everyone is happy to have it, but they're being snarky about it b/c Dave Brandon talked about it being his top priority for improving the game day experience despite the fact that, when polled, students put it very low on their list of priorities.
|2 weeks 21 hours ago||Apparently they're called the Highlanders||
Can't there only be one Highlander? How can you have a whole team of them?
