...is "sociopath" really the right word? Is he unable to feel empathy for other people?
I don't ask this to generally defend Whitlock generally, FWIW. I don't know why anyone follows the Whitlocks, Baylesses, Cowherds, etc. of the world.

He's said late April, but that was only ever a self-imposed deadline.

I'd like to think that Nick Saban called the SEC commissioner and said, "Big Daddy, you've got to come up with something here."

...the failure of Pickett's Charge is their most powerful memory of venturing that far north. I assume they're still a little jumpy about the prospect.

It is one of the world's cultural jewels, and the people are warm and hospitable. I'm sure people there are doing everything they can to help themselves, but I'm also sure that they'll need help from the rest of the world. As the OP says, Nepal is a very poor country. I encourage people to give if they can afford it.

...but Hatch is an inspirational figure in a way that goes beyond sports. I'm not sure I can even fully comprehend everything he's been through, and he's struggled on with class and grace that few people could muster. He is already something bigger than a D1 basketball player.

The behavior of the fraternities as reported is almost cartoonish in its shitheadedness.

This has been a surprisingly enjoyable day to be a Michigan fan.
|4 days 1 hour ago||I love this||
Michigan has gone in less than a year from apologizing to MSU to telling the Sabans and Swinneys of the world to put up or shut up.
|4 days 18 hours ago||It's the most pressing issue facing the NCAA today||
The oddity of players generating hundreds of milliions of dollars while receiving a very small fraction of that and risking the future health of their brains pales in comparison to the fact that Nick Saban might be inconvenienced by having to keep up with Jim Harbaugh.
I love that Michigan's coach has people like Saban and Meyer saying they shouldn't have to work as hard as him. He is the maniac we've been waiting for.

There is a reason you don't let chimps ghostwrite your book.

I thought the Big Ten had a rule that a team can only play two night road games in-conference per year.

I'm not sure how people can argue with the fact that those points illustrate a potential problem. And I'm not saying this means we have to run around like headless chickens and/or poop our pants.* One can take note of these things and be a bit concerned while still having great appreciation for the coaching staff (a staff I would trade for no one) and the program as a whole and while still being optmistic about next season.
*or poop in the pants of chickens, which is considered very rude

He wants to win too much and likes the toughness required by football too much? Has HBO Sports ever met or read about a successful football coach prior to this?
|6 days 18 hours ago||As much as I'd like Michigan to get him...||
...I'd be happiest losing out to Cal if Michigan isn't going to get him. You couldn't say the young man was blowing smoke when he said he cared about academics. And based on the few interviews I've seen him give, my guess is that he does. My impression is that he's a thoughtful kid.
|6 days 21 hours ago||You don't have to question Davis, though to question...||
...the scholarship offer. Let's stipulate that he'll be as good as senior Jordan Morgan. That still leaves Michigan with four centers and two true guards on its 2016 roster.
|6 days 22 hours ago||Sam Webb said last week (or the week prior)...||
...that Michigan was totally focused on Winston at PG for 2016. I also remember Thornton saying a couple of months ago that he hadn't heard much from Michigan lately, but I don't remember where I read that. It's of course possible that Michigan recruited Thornton in between his statement and Sam's, but those quotes are in any event what gave me the impression that they stopped going after him.
|6 days 23 hours ago||I understand Duke winning out, but...||
...I don't understand why Michigan badly wanted him one day and then (apparently) didn't the next. I don't like Duke, but I don't think Thornton is likely to have started asking for cash under the table (or other illegal benefits) with that being his eventual choice. Given that, I'm curious to know what changed from Michigan's perspective. Maybe the answer is simply that we are creatures of the wind and wild is the wind.
|1 week 2 min ago||I don't understand his recruitment with respect to Michigan||
I remember a time last year when it seemed like he almost committed to Michigan during a visit. Later it seemed like Michigan wasn't going after him anymore. It was odd.
|1 week 1 day ago||I have high hopes for him in the long run||
He's agile and looks to be legitmately 6'9" or more. I think, given his apparent enthusiasm for the game, Michigan will have a very good player once Coach Beilein has had the chance to teach him for a couple of years. I don't expect much this year, though, because he's going to have a lot to adjust to.

The Millennium Falcon is going to need a PG and a five-star wing in 2016.

|1 week 3 days ago||The prep year idea||
This would make a lot more sense if he's going to do that. Davis as 2017's center works. Davis as 2016's second center doesn't - at least on the face of things.
|1 week 3 days ago||Just to be clear:||
I wasn't saying he's not a Pittsnogle-type to knock him. He's simply a different kind of player.
|1 week 3 days ago||Agreed||
Michigan is now set to have only two true guards on the team in 2016, though Irvin, Chatman, and maybe Robinson might also be able to play some at the two. And even if we consider Irvin among the possible guards, his hypothetical departure allows you to do nothing but draw even in the guard-type person department.
This is also another scholarship that can't go to a five-star guy. We're all aware of what Coach Beilein has done with non-top-100 guys like Burke, JMo, etc. But Michigan also only made the Final Four and the Elite Eight once it had five-star players in addition to its over-achievers. I worry that the team is going to be almost nothing but diamons in the rough in the near future.
I mean none of this as a shot against Davis. He may be a good player down the road. But Michigan doesn't need a good player at center in 2016. They need guards first and then great players at any position.
|1 week 3 days ago||A Spike redshirt would not...||
...open a scholarship for 2015. It would take a scholarship away from the 2016 class, though, if we assume that he came back for his fifth year.
|1 week 3 days ago||This guy is not Pittsnogle, though||
He doesn't bring the shooting or agility that Pittsnogle did. He's a low-post guy all the way.
|1 week 4 days ago||I know I'm repeating myself, but what's odd to me about...||
...the Davis pick-up isn't his rankings so much as the fact that it puts four centers on the 2016 roster to go with at least four power forwards. It seems very odd that they'd plan to go into the year with a backcourt of Walton, Rahk, and no other guy who is obviously a guard.
