“The player development is the main thing I like (about Michigan),” Williams said. “You can see that they develop their players. They get them in the gym and they work them hard. And their hard work pays off.”

Talk is often worthless or even harmful, IMHO, but Michigan needs some vocal confidence right now. If nothing else, I think DG will leave Michigan having done everything he could to get the Wolverines back to the top.

But - when looking backward at events - it will be accurate to say that some were more fortunate than others.
|2 days 19 hours ago||Fish||
If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
If you teach a man to fish, he'll eat for the rest of his life.
If you teach a man to fish and give him a fish as compensation for work, well, you've gone and screwed everything up.
And if you teach a fish to fish, you've created a cannibal, you sick bastard.

It's a little hard to imagine he's gained that much good weight, but I suppose you never know with an 18 year old.
|1 week 3 hours ago||Just my guess:||
I think the coaches would be happy enough with McQuaid as the only 2015 recruit. They'll have Spike and presumably Walton on the team in 2015. And they're in on a number of 2016 PGs.

JMo was a fifth year senior last year. He played with a confidence that he'd never shown before. His stats were better his first year on the court, yes, but he wasn't as valuable as he was last year (it's also not an apples to apples comparison, because his stats came from DMo finding him on pick-and-rolls in a way no other Michigan PG ever did again).
There is reason to be excited by Donnal. But it's a lot to ask that he outpace Michigan's defensive captain, a guy who played in four straight NCAA tournaments and who won two Big Ten titles.

I always love this about him: When his job was in jeopardy, he had bins for food donations put in local grocery stores. If you wanted him fired, you put your donations in the "Fire Wyche" bin. If you wanted to keep him, you put your donations in the "Wyche Should Stay" bin. I don't remember how the vote came out, but he at least made something good out of his bad situation.

I halfway expect next year's team to somehow be made up largely of high school juniors.
|1 week 3 days ago||Yep||
Coach Beilein brings things to the table that you don't often find in major college sports. Pitinio, Calipari, and others might give you a better chance at a national title, but I would consider a trade of Coach Beilein for one of those guys for exactly zero seconds. The value of the MBB team will go beyond wins and losses for at least as long as John Beilein is around.

...a walrus that farts fireworks when Michigan scores, but I'll bet the PETA people would be all up in arms about that.

You hair has lost some of its luster - and I say that as a friend.

But calming things down in the Ukraine is pretty tall order. There are people there who consider it a long-time family obligation to try to free Ukrainians from Russians - with violence if necessary. And there are people who consider themselves more Russian than Ukrainian. You have Putin using agents provocateurs on one side - so it's not always clear who represents what interests - and then fascists on the other side (though I don't mean to imply that all Ukrainian independence supporters are fascist).
There are no good answers there.

That seems like a pretty powerful statement about who he held accountable.

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
|1 week 5 days ago||Seems strange not to have any OSU guys on that list||
They haven't lacked for recruiting.
|1 week 5 days ago||playing App State again?||
What do you mean "again"? Michigan has never played App State before. I would remember that - unless something really traumatic happened.
|1 week 5 days ago||That's probably true to some extent||
I think a person can disagree with DB's view of a good game day experience, though, without seeing him as a chartoon character. FWIW, I think DB's done a lot of good things, but I think his goal of every Michigan game being a mini-Super Bowl is a misunderstanding of what makes college football great.
|1 week 5 days ago||My guess:||
Everyone is happy to have it, but they're being snarky about it b/c Dave Brandon talked about it being his top priority for improving the game day experience despite the fact that, when polled, students put it very low on their list of priorities.
|1 week 5 days ago||Apparently they're called the Highlanders||
Can't there only be one Highlander? How can you have a whole team of them?
|1 week 5 days ago||Could be||
Maybe everyone tries to schedule the good bad teams, making them hard to land.
|1 week 6 days ago||scheduling malpractice||
I don't understand why schools don't see that they should schedule the champions of, say, the Patriot League rather than the dregs of the Patriot League. You have to play the good bad teams, man, not the bad bad teams. The RPI hit you take from the 300-ish teams is a self-inflicted wound (assuming you did not try and fail to get better teams).
|1 week 6 days ago||Morgan is probably a long shot but...||
I wouldn't give up on GRIII (not that you are). The T-Wolves starters include three of the ball hoggingest ball hogs who ever hogged the ball. Robinson has managed to show a decent all-around game despite almost never being set up for anything on offense.
|1 week 6 days ago||Counter way too early prediction||
I think Mitch will be the best of the bunch - at least as long as he stays healthy. His size, skill set, and motor are a really unique combination - especially if he can keep hitting 17 footers like he did this past week. He'll also be a better defender than any of his fellow Wolverines (with the possible exception of GRIII).
|1 week 6 days ago||It's frustrating to watch GRIII and JMo||
They don't get many opportunities. The summer league Timberwolves pass the ball as often as the Navy football team.
|1 week 6 days ago||Damn||
Michigan still won't have Robocop for another two or three years.
|2 weeks 59 min ago||Two points:||
1. Are you sure he wasn't going to qualify?
2. Even if he wasn't going to qualify, he survived being born in the Congo (read about that civil war if you ever want to doubt the fate of humanity) and is now capable of pulling his family out of poverty. That's good, right?
|2 weeks 2 hours ago||I agree, fwiw||
I think having some of your players with one foot in and one foot out of the college game hurts in the long run. The Kentucky fan says, "I love this game!" while the Kentucky player says, "I wouldn't be here if I didn't feel like I had to be." That's an undesirable situation.
