|14 hours 39 min ago||Even if the Pistons should have taken Burke...||
I'd prefer to just celebrate Burke's success. We could use some purely good news around here.
|14 hours 50 min ago||Agreed||
The concept of who Michigan is could currently go in two directions right now in a pretty big way. I would be great to show that Michigan is the team that took OSU to a photo finish.
|14 hours 52 min ago||coach speak||
Coaches say stuff like that. Much of their job is getting better performances out of their players. If I were a coach, my players would be more-or-less the only audience I cared about when I talked to the media. You can interpret Borges's pressers as saying to his team "You have it in you to do great things, but you have to be on point all the time." I don't see anything wrong with that.
|14 hours 55 min ago||McGary/Burke||
McGary: He's never looked 100%, and I'm glad to have that confirmed. It's better than the alternative that he somehow regressed as a basketball player for non-injury reasons.
As for Burke, his success has to help with recruiting at some point, right? I mean, someone is going to love us, aren't they?
|18 hours 30 min ago||I would have zero issue with a female ref in a Michigan game||
A Pac 12 ref, on the other hand...
|20 hours 47 min ago||Nice||
That leaves plenty of time to learn Georgia Southern's offense.

Genuine question: Wouldn't we be cutting MSU down if that were the case? I don't get the sense that MSU fans spent a lot of time complimenting Michigan in, say, 2006.
I don't see anything wrong with giving credit where it's due. I think it would speak poorly of us if we didn't.

Was it a talented team? Sure. But was it particularly talented by 1990s Michigan standards? No, but they still scored almost 27 ppg. A good job by DeBord, as I said.
|1 day 19 hours ago||What the poster above and I were responding to:||
OP said that OSU should out-recruit Michigan. We were pointing out the flaw in that assumption...Can Michigan out-recruit OSU? Of course. It's been done.
Everyone wants Michigan to have a better coaching staff than OSU. You are arguing against no one if your argument is "We should want a better coaching staff than OSU."
The question, of course, is who that coaching staff would consist of.
|1 day 19 hours ago||Mack Brown was 6-9 v. Stoops||
Michigan has outperformed OSU at times too, but that doesn't mean OSU lacks the recruiting advantage of having a great many more talented players in its home state.
|1 day 19 hours ago||yeah, but...||
In 1997 those guys were as follows:
Hutchinson - redshirt freshman
Backus - redshirt freshman
Jansen - redshirt junior - named All-American the next year
Chris Floyd & Chris Howard - very nice players but not great RBs by 1990s Michigan standards
Tuman - can't argue there
Griese - middling NFL career and not the most talented Michigan QB of the 1990s by a long shot
Anthony Thomas - true freshman
Tai Streets - Very nice player but not even second-team All Big Ten until the next year.
Were they talented? Of course. Would we have taken that team this year? Yes. But was that even close to the most talented Michigan offense of the decade? No way, not in a decade that saw Tom Brady, Drew Henson, Elvis Grbac, Tyrone Wheatley, Ricky Powers, Desmond Howard, Derrick Alexander, etc.

I fucking think we can fucking fuck that shit the fuck up a lot fucking more, all fucktastic like.
|1 day 19 hours ago||Have you seen this?||
It may only be funny if you've seen a Werner Herzog documentary, but if you have...
|1 day 20 hours ago||He's a coordinator||
They don't have to be great leaders. That's a head coach's job...And mentioning execution is a lack of leadership only in the eyes of posters on this blog. It's standard coach-speak....I'm not sold on Borges, btw, but saying he's failing the team because of boilerplate things he says in press conferences is a bit much.
|1 day 20 hours ago||The 1997 offense||
That wasn't the most talented bunch. DeBord did a good job that year.
|1 day 21 hours ago||Good luck to him||
He seems like a young man who will be successful wherever he goes. I hope that's Michigan, but I sure understand if it's not. He has a team in his backyard that won the Orange Bowl last year, is playing for a national championship this year, and fields the Heisman Trophy winner. That would give a lot of guys pause.
|1 day 21 hours ago||Everyone wants to win||
Dave Brandon wants to win. Brady Hoke wants to win. There are no easy answers. Of course they are going to do their best to recruit even when they're losing. Should they only recruit three-star guys until they win ten games (putting aside the fact that they won eleven just two years ago)?
This is really just a "Fire Borges" post, yes? Or maybe a "Fire Hoke" post?
|1 day 21 hours ago||Indeed||
Michigan produces less than a quarter of the talent Ohio does year in and year out. People can wear "worst state ever" shirts all they want, but Michigan doesn't hold a candle to Ohio as a producer of football players.
|1 day 21 hours ago||ugh||
Did Mike DeBord have "swagger" in 1997? I don't remember that he did or that anyone who used the word "swagger" would have approved of that coaching staff. They were a pretty stoic, non-"swagger" bunch.
|2 days 13 hours ago||I think you misunderstood||
I believe he was saying that the best source to go to was Rosen himself, which is what Brandon did. There is no insult there.
|2 days 15 hours ago||Indeed||
Even a bad sun burn is worse than breaking things, IMO.
|2 days 15 hours ago||I have a hard time blaming him re: the weather||
I'm glad I never had to chose between playing for Michigan and living in Florida or Southern California. I'm good friends with the sun and miss him when he's gone.
|2 days 16 hours ago||Thanks for posting this||
And thanks for being a great Michigan man!
|2 days 17 hours ago||Not me||
That was a terrible Christmas.
|2 days 18 hours ago||Hmmm...||
Are we sure the good Michigan news moratorium is over? We should check with the gods before we take this as fact.
|2 days 18 hours ago||The Final Four||
This year has had it's very unpleasant moments, but I can't count it as the worst due to Michigan making the Final Four. That makes up for a lot, in my book, though I did have several minor heart incidents reading Brian's post.
FWIW, my experience was that there was nothing quite so low as losing to App. State and then being toyed with by Oregon the next week, all while knowing that the basketball team was likely to be a dud. So I say 2007 was worse than this year...If I was to give a special award for badness for this year, I would give 2013 the award for "Year When Mediocre Football Started to Seem Par for the Course."
|3 days 13 hours ago||I'll take the second old way||
Crowning a champ by having a four team playoff is only slightly less absurd than just giving it the old eyeball test. You really can't have a sound playoff unless you include too many teams to make the thing practical (and destroy much of the meaning of the regular season). I say embrace the fictional nature of the national championship, which shouldn't (IMO) be the end-all be-all of a college football season anyway.
|3 days 13 hours ago||A good question||
I hope the selection committee at least sends SEC teams out west and Pac 12 teams south when they can. Alabama shouldn't get to play in Florida or Georgia, for example.
|3 days 13 hours ago||the problem...||
The problem with it is that you basically can't walk, jump, run, or anything like that without using your big toe, so you just keep re-aggravating the injury - or such is my non-doctor understanding.
|3 days 15 hours ago||Irvin, maybe||
He's not draftable right now, but he seems like a guy who could work his way into being a first round pick at some point.
