|2 hours 37 min ago||I wish there was a less negative way to put this...||
It says a lot that one of Michigan's crucial players down the stretch is a guard who's averaging 6.8 points and 1.4 assists per game. I like Rahk. I appreciate Rahk. But you've just got to have more production at some point from your key guys.
|18 hours 13 min ago||He's a hard one to figure out||
You see his shooting ability and vertical and momentarily imagine him as a major contributor. But he often seems like he just doesn't see the game. Did he not play a lot of basketball growing up? I know who his dad is, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was shooting at a Nerf basket when he was three.

The poor guy looked haggard tonight. Maybe it was exasperation.

Nope, can't place the name.

...just like when they fired Glen Mason. Tubby Smith is a pretty damn good coach to have if you're the Gophers.

...it's the same for me. My ability to endure basketball anguish is used up right now.

I relate to that story. I was dubbed problematically competitive at about that age too. But what's the point of being a kid if you can't play tackle basketball or throw balls at each other's heads? My friends and I were having a great time.

Whether that's true and whether that matters as far as punishment is another story.
|1 day 23 hours ago||Drew Brees got smashed diving for a fumble too||
A play involving a fumble is probably the most dangerous non-special teams play in the game. Anything goes.
|1 day 23 hours ago||It's his leg!||
He could presumably feel it. Remember that he did go after the ball on the play a moment later. And he is hardly shy about exposing himself to hits most of the time. He runs more designed running plays than any other QB in the NFL as far as I know. He deserves more of the benefit of the doubt than many are giving him.
|1 day 23 hours ago||QBs slide and go out of bounds rather than...||
...getting the most yards. It's an extension of that thinking.
I'd want him to dive for the ball if I'm a Panther fan. I'm just saying it's not crazy.
He could dive for the ball and not get it and get hurt, dive and get it and get hurt, dive and get it and not get hurt, and dive and not get it and not get hurt. He only helps the Panthers win if he gets it and doesn't get hurt - that offense goes nowhere without him.
The chances of those four outcomes aren't equal, but they're all very real possibilities. The Broncos said they were ready to drill him, and he said his leg was at an awkward angle.
|1 day 23 hours ago||Makes some sense||
The Panthers aren't winning that game if he gets knocked out. I very much understand why people hold it against him for not diving for the ball, but that's not a crazy way of looking at things.
|2 days 10 min ago||I hope we can all agree that we won't get to the...||
...bottom of this here.
I'm kidding. We won't agree to that. Everyone man your preconceived notions! There's an ill-informed argument to be won!

I'm hoping for Danzig's "Mother" myself.

These guys own Florida.

Quit harshing our buzz, man.
|2 days 23 hours ago||A fair question||
The NCAA Tournament dates back to 1939. Michigan has made the Final Four one out of every eleven years. But it doesn't happen like clockwork. The 2013 trip to the Final Four was Michigan's first in 20 years - and it's first non-vacated trip in 24 years. And the 2012 Big Ten title was the first regular season crown in 26 years.
|3 days 1 hour ago||He's not Yost, but...||
...Beilein does have two of Michigan's nine Big Ten regular season titles since 1948 and one of their seven Final Four appearances ever. He's done pretty well.
|3 days 1 hour ago||It's apples and oranges, but...||
I see Jordan Morgan as a free safety who kept a defense from giving up six long TD passes per game. He was easy to take for granted when he was here.
|3 days 2 hours ago||I agree that the recruiting isn't luck, though...||
...it's worth noting that Michigan had the misfortune of having Shareef Abdur-Rahim be Jaylen Brown's mentor, which gave Cal a connection to a Georgia kid they otherwise wouldn't have had.
But yes, it mostly isn't luck. My only point is that Michigan has been close to adding some big time guys. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, sure, but it's still important to realize that we're not that far away from things being different. To me that means that even recruiting - the bete noir of the staff - doesn't require a massive shake up.
|3 days 2 hours ago||oh yeah||
I blame the cold I have for forgetting Spike.
|3 days 2 hours ago||Excuses are like...blah blah blah...but...||
It's worth noting how bad Coach Beilein's luck as been and how close he's apparently come to some elite recruits.
He lost McGary forever to a positive marijuana test.
He's now lost about a season's worth of LeVert.
He lost a good chunk of a Walton season.
The Battle situation happened.
He apparently narrowly lost out on Jaylen Brown.
I'm as frustrated as anyone, but it's worth reflecting on how close Michigan has been to the last two years being very different.
|3 days 3 hours ago||The 2016 recruits have already signed LOIs||
Those guys aren't going anywhere, though I don't think they'll have much impact next year.
I don't know what to think of next season. Everyone who isn't currently injured will be back, but we haven't seen much from last year's freshman class. Walton and Irvin, as much as I like them, aren't enough. And as I said, none of the incoming guys seem like they'll make a difference right away.
|3 days 8 hours ago||I wish I did not agree so much with this||
I think another RR-like problem is just not having the horses to compete with good teams. I don't want to rip any particular guy, but it's worth asking how many Michigan players teams like MSU and Maryland would poach if they could. It's not many, IMO.
|3 days 9 hours ago||Hopefully he brings the dog, as Sam Webb might say, that...||
...the team is missing right now. Their lack of on-court leadership, at the risk of stating the obvious, is striking.
|5 days 5 hours ago||We've found Rashan Gary's weakness?||
His vertical as a junior was 0.1 inches less than than the vertical of the average DL at the Combine. I really hope he's cleaned that up. Might not have been worth landing him otherwise.
|6 days 3 hours ago||Becoming someone's guardian is very difficult||
You're taking away a great deal of a person's autonomy, so the standard for appointing a guardian is very high. The person has to be unable to even direct the maintenance of his/her affairs.
There is also the problem of the guy's ability to simply leave any facility you put him in. Someone with severe dementia, for example, is relatively easy to confine. But Manziel is capable of calling a cab and going to a bar. There's no good way to stop that.

But it is sometimes the case that the people closest to an addict have to say "I can't have anything to do with you until you get sober." That's all you can do as a last resort.
