"It's a lot easier being a drug dealer than an AAU coach" - this guy. Tell me something I don't know. I mean, don't think but have never tried either.

Caris is listed as a junior though and they're part of the same class.

Reggie F'n Nelson is the Florida ridiculous safety you were thinking of Brian. At least I think.

Our WRs >>> our TEs, we think. The only one I trust at all is Jake Butt, and he has one knee at the moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Beilein's system + Eurorules should = hilarious efficiency numbers.
You know, more than it already does.

They were pretty bad until the Aneurysm of Leadership, so it would be kind of a bad sign if they're just non-competitive.

Holly loves fun things about college sports and the preview is in that vein. Indiana is super fun. Michigan last year was NOT super fun, unless Indiana was involved or heroic feats of Gardnering were taking place.
I mean, she's responsible for a lot of the sillier things from EDSBS.

Holly mentioned Michigan without making a Charles Woodson is still fat joke! Maybe marriage (to Doug of Hey Jenny Slater fame) has softened her.
|1 week 2 days ago||It's actually more ridiculous||
It's actually more ridiculous in college because there are fewer great athletes on defense and true spread offenses are considerably more widespread. The game generally needs more rule changes to help defense, so this is ridiculous.
I mean, a mediocre QB with atrocious footwork had 5k passing yards a few years ago in the NFL.

Remember the Frank Clark, destroyer of worlds hype last fall? Which was, in retrospect, a sign? This is what I'm thinking.

I know this is all Debbie Downer of me, but presumably the DL has been looking fantastic against the OL? Given that we've seen (admittedly younger) those guys for the most part, might that just mean DOOM is continuing?

Apparently maize helmets were the player to be named later in the Rodriguez/Beilein trade.

Yes. Engineers first to get up Uplinks and Satellites to increase the money supply. For the first ~three or four months of the game that's your limiting factor. Then it becomes weapon fragments.
My tendency is to research armor ASAP. Though you should grab the two South American countries to get that bonus early on. Instant bio research is amazing.

But Seeker Drones are the only ones who will get to your sniper if you're playing vaguely right...
Also, why are you using a squaddie sniper that late in the game. I HAVE QUESTIONS.

That's self-hating in ways that I can't even begin to recognize. And I'm a Lions fan.
Though it's less bad if you understand this lesson:

Check out Iowa's schedule:
UNI, Ball State, ISU, @Pitt, @Purdue, Indiana, @Maryland, Northwestern, @Minnesota, @Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska
They could easily be 10-0, even if they suck.
I mean, Ferentz probably blows the Iowa State game, because he frequently does, but still.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||There's a fairly large||
There's a fairly large difference between being a dick on the field and off of it. Lewan was fairly clearly both, while IIRC there were stories about Molk turning it on and off depending whether or not he had a helmet on, basically.
I think shit leadership is more likely to make things spiral out of control like they did last year, while better leadership probably rallies the team before the Ohio State game and we play a bit better and end up 8-5 or 9-4.
But I also started hating Lewan the more I read about him so this narrative fits into my preconceived notions, so maybe that's all that this really means.

He's not working on season five of the show to "finish" (his words) Winds of Winter.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||It's funny, to me Dance is||
It's funny, to me Dance is the much more blatant Iraq allegory (occupying force trying to impose democracy/freedom against a guerilla campaign by a committed enemy) and is less effective for it because it feels forced. Feast is definitely anti-war, but it's much more inspired by Martin's experience as part of the Vietnam generation and a general anti-war sentiment, I think.
Meribald's speech is a great moment and where you realize to some extent that he pulled the wool over your eyes with his focus on the Game of Thrones that high lords play while everyone else suffers for their ultimately petty bullshit.

Brienne's story in Feast is basically the thematic heart of the whole thing, I'm pretty sure. Fundamentally, they're anti-war novels. Especially AFFC though.

Good branding and historical anti-Catholic bigotry making American Catholics band together, which increased their available talent pool. If you're the #1 destination for like a fifth of a nation for 40 or so years, you're going to get most of the good Catholic players.

|4 weeks 5 days ago||That's a slight over||
That's a slight over statement, but given the water situation, not as much as it should be.
And THAT's the thing public money should be being spent on. Because if you want to attract people back to Detroit, the very first step is "don't have national stories about a large subset of the city not having running fucking water."

|5 weeks 17 min ago||Way to completely ignore||
Way to completely ignore defense, 24/7 writer. The thing that was very obvious to everyone who watched us last year is that without Morgan in at center, we were completely discombobulated defending our basket. The Big Ten title game is the most obvious example, but it was fairly clear all year. Particularly without McGary. That's where we're going to miss him, and while Donnal may be fine offensively, it's where I'm terrified. The only way I think we could replace that aspect with a freshman is if he were a true rim protector. Which is not Donnal's rep.
We're probably going to need dramatic improvement defending on the perimeter from Caris/Irvin/Walton to make up for J-Mo's experience and leadership on that end.
