I wish I had read more poetry, especially Robert Frost.

You can’t teach his length his length ...
But if anyone can, Harbaugh can.

Mickey Lolich went 3-0 (all complete games) to earn MVP. Denny McLain, 31-6 in the regular season, was 1-2 with Tigers scoring only 1 run in the two losses (and 13 runs in the game 6 win).
Bob Gibson was unreal on the mound for the cards until he and Lolich met in game 7.

He had the yardage for the first down, Michigan could have run out the clock.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Ouch.||
That one still hurts, although wins in '96 and '97 helped.

Bill Mazeroski's homerun in the bottom of the 9th to win game 7 and the series from those arrogant Yankees. Now we'd call it a walk-off homer, but that phase was still in the future 56 years ago.

as long as Mark Hollis heads up the MSU Athletic Dept. But that's just my opinion.

follow up the satellite camp visits with a road trip & you have compelling experiences. Of course, you have to win the games ...

I believe that's a direct quote from Bo, though I can't recall the context just now.

.. so he starts writing fiction in a garbled, nonsensical fashion.

Oregon has no sales tax, so it depends more heavily on its income and property taxes. Makes it tough on retirees, many of whom limit purchases but can't avoid the two primary forms of taxation. Washington state has sales tax and lower income and property taxes.
On the other hand, having lived in Oregon since 1980, I must say the quality of life is fantastic.

Ten years ago, we had someone come out to sweep our chimney from "The Mad Hatter Chimney Sweeping." When I looked them up five years ago, they had changed the name to "The Happy Hatter Chimney Sweeping", with the tagline "We're not mad anymore." When I asked the reason for the change, I was told that:
a) many prospective customers were not familiar with Alice in Wonderland
b) some prospective customers were put off by the reference to mental illness

And given that UMich now has the best coach it could have, I have moved on and pardoned Mr. Herbstreit.

stuck at a wedding with Buckeyes I'd guess my conversations would be based on the question of how a team with 5 first round NFL picks (12 overall) lost in their own stadium to MSU?

"Park Free in Rear" : with a draw like that it must have been crowded, and interesting.

at the corner of State & Huron. That's where my aunt and uncle were married in 1956; I was ring bearer.
It was only later that we all learned about an extra guest, former UM student Cheng Lim, who was hiding in the church to avoid facing his family in Singapore. http://aapd.aadl.org/aapd/truecrimes/5-5

Late sixties in Allentown, PA. I had an evening route for the first year, which really cut into my after-school schedule. Lots of walking because about 15% of the houses took the evening paper in 1965 (TV news was having an impact).
Switched to a morning route the for four years, not as much walking because the morning paper was much more popular, probably about 70% saturation. I loved reading the paper at 6:00 AM while the streets were quiet, especially in spring, summer and fall.
Going door-to-door to collect ~$2.50 per fortnight ($1.92 for the evening paper) was part of the job, too. Once every two weeks, I'd walk downtown to pay for my papers; there were two excellent pinball opportunities along the way ...

Stanford picked up alot of support when they dropped "Indians" as their mascot in favor of Cardinal in 1972. Just guessing.

I don't recall seeing a band in those first 15 minutes; this would be a good trivia question: "name the University whose marching band is featured in "Rudy". Haha.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Rudy.||
We turned it off about 15 minutes in. The hell with Notre Dame.

|11 weeks 3 days ago||Wait,||
did you mean the Rose Bowl game seemed anti-climactic? I felt that too, though probably not as much as Iowa fans.
You have a reasonable explanation for the ratings decline: parties and people watching as best they could at commercial NYE celebrations.
|11 weeks 3 days ago||Okay,||
I took your usage of anti-climactic to refer to the slate of bowl games on that day, as if the matchup was disappointing and lacking interest. If you meant otherwise, please elucidate.
I do not know everyone in the country; my (admittedly) small group of Michigan fans was in full attendence for Alabama-MSU in the Cotton Bowl. I did read that the ratings figures were down, but this is of little consequence to me; hopefully they'll be way up next year when Harbaugh's team makes its first appearance in the CFP.
