And you guys insult their writing and analysis. Kind if does... reeealllyl....
I went to spring practice last yr with maizeman. He does have access. The two practices I saw last yr, Ross was playing awesome and was the best defensive player on the field. I got to see Countess doing drills and knew last yr was going to be rough as a man corner for him. Offense, Darboh and Chesson looked better than Funchess....and you didn't see Gallon do anything. Jake Ryan was on crutches and he was everywhere encouraging the defense and lbers....
So, while you all accuse them of knowing nothing I can vouch for them not that it means anything as I don't personally know any of you all. But, everything i saw fit to what happened last season. Run game sucked, interior oline just wasn't what I thought it would be and the dt's were a work in progress.
Honestly last season I was fooled by the nd game though. I thought they would lose that game and end up with 10 wins losing to either Osu or Nw as the other loss opposite nd. I thought nd was better than what they showed in that game.
Ross was not close to the player he showed in spring, Darboh's injury really hurt, oline burzynski's injury really hurt. Bosch was the best technically of all the tr fr and rs fr oline, however Braden was physiclaly awesome and starting at LG all spring. That was last yr...
So, reports on spring practices remember, they are practicing against their own team and get used to the calls of the other side of the ball and the player infront of them. So, you have to take it with a grain of salt and realize the reports are just that. Mixed opinions of what they see. I was at practice and had some disagreement maizeman's analysis. But that is also why I try to put what coach bt says along with maizeman and come up with what's in the middle. Both attend practices, both know the coaching staff far more than you guys would like to admit. So sit back, enjoy your beer threads, btw, bells two harted, madtree gnarly brown and guiness are still the best beers on the planet!
|7 weeks 3 days ago||Have known a few d1 players that used.||
All of them said the same things.
Coaches push them to get better, if you only were bigger, if you were just a bit stronger if you were quicker, faster.... Always pushed them and compared to best players on the team. Natural right... the message would be clear, get better or go elsewhere... it's up to you...
They would make sure they knew well in advance of testing. Don't fail the tests, we don't want any athlete failing tests... this is when the test is... don't fail the tests.. continually repeated over and over adnauseum.
They would also say, you could tell who was and who wasn't. Abnormal weight gain is not going from hs s&c to college elite s&c. Normal weight gain is about 15lbs of muscle over 1yr period of time. 20 can happen but he had to work out a whole heck of a lot more than just the last 4 months from january through spring ball!!! Guys putting on weight is normal, 25+ lbs of ripped shredded weight and he is juiced! But there are a lot more ped's than just testosterone. Hgh, blood doping for endurance, beta blockers for focus that many qb's will use, students will use... which I have no problem with.. but they all use them.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||What desmond said is right..||
All that said, it doesn't matter urban was never going to suspend any other player further! Either the big ten was going to, uhmm nope, or it wasn't happening so we all knew it wasn't happening.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||ad ...||
Is the increase for more support staff needed? I wouldn't think everyone just received a 62% pay increase though some may have been given a pay increase to match the going rate of their position. In that case it is needed... for any and all.
For me the questions are.. Is the ad financially living within the budgets set? Are they making more money than they are spending? Are building for the success of the athletic programs now and in the future? And last, with the expansion of the athletic campus and all the related projects have they been able to meet the financial burden of those projects and continue to sustain for the future.
The obvious to that is yes. It has to continue as well. I am sure that Brandon and company see what concerns the donors/alumni/ticket holders have. I would bet they will be quick to back off it they reach the tipping point.
Something was posted on another board via an alumni function last spring where Dave Brandon spoke. At length he spoke about the goals of winning the bigten, bcs and national title in football as the best ways to increase revenue and the last one by far has the biggest impact. He cited the effect it had on other universities that have won football national championships and how much it increased cash flow into the athletic department of those schools. So, that is the goal.....
|13 weeks 5 days ago||Consider, Michigan hosted them||
Our school hosted them, allowed them field passes for the game which is impossible to get and got face time with Hoke on the day of the game.
The family, osu fans/grads yeah they could have taken the osu hats off but who cares about that to be honest. imho it showed michigan is above all that!
|14 weeks 13 hours ago||Remember that game...||
Such a huge win and those players all came up big!
Rewatching that game I forgot how beat up the team was. LT Backus didn't play, adami was playing injured and quite immobile. Howard was out, streets was battling a hammy. Forgot all about that........ Reminds me of how good they were to keep overcoming everything. On offense, overcame some bad turnovers and field position the 2nd half. Got enough points with limited offense and still won. Defense just took over that game!

Far too many athletic depts have done this and pro teams as well......
A friend of mine a 20yr season ticket holder for the bengals of all teams had good seats and paid the psl when they built pbs in cincy. He paid that psl and then got moved to lesser seats only to find the corperate buyers were buying blocks of good seats and he got moved as a result...add to that, they didn't refund the difference in the psl they charged to the rate for the seats he was given.
I haven't heard michigan do this to season ticket holders yet so long as they paid the donation...however it has been done I am sure. Really sucks.....
|24 weeks 9 hours ago||you are talking about fans||
who are illogical anyway.............................that would have been the response of many fanbases around the country no matter the university. Heck, athletes get accused of rape and I see message board posters saying the girl deserved it, led him on, what ever else.........you get alot of fair responses...........my response always is, lets wait to find out what actually happened, if he did it, by all means put him in prison and let the legal system handle it.....if he didn't do it, lets not assassinate his character, but lets not do that till we find out.
|24 weeks 9 hours ago||I somewhat agree here but....||
You used ohio st... so lets review...
Ncaa investigates and there is clear evidence that the Head coach lied, covered up student athletes actions to keep them eligible to win more football games to make a bcs bowl or bcs championship game.
Ncaa, did they follow their own by laws to punish ohio st? No, they let ohio st walk with minimal penalty as the head coach clearly broke the rules. What did ohio st do, they fired the head coach and said this is all on him. Ncaa what did they do, they gave minimal punishment and didn't at all charge ohio st with the crime of lack of institutional control as defined by a coach knowing about extra benefits and hiding them. No, they got minor charges a few scholarships and a 1 year bowl ban.
So, now let me add, North Carolina with proven academic fraud, Auburn had a players family take nearly $200,000 that we know and the ncaa dismissed the investigation, Oregon paying people to send recruits to their school, Miami fl and that fiasco and several more I am forgetting to mention...............................
The ncaa cannot even keep it's own house clean and yet you and everyone else thinks it's okay for them to punish pennst for something that didn't involve a single student athlete, or coach at the university. Now, before you rip me, Sandusky was not a football coach when the known incident happened.
Now, the ncaa jumping in on this is like the department of education going and grabbing a drug dealer and stealing, ie fining him every dime he has because he sold drugs on school grounds before the fbi could arrest him.............it isn't their jurisdiction no matter the crime commited. Even worse it was obvious what the ncaa's motive was, and it sure as heck wasn't to do the right thing.
The right thing
Pennst, should have settled immediately with all victims and offered every victim full tuition education or pay off all student loans for those who already had grown and gone to college. Pennst should have offered to pay for or repay all expenses for therapy incurred to the victims. IE, pennst needs to make it right for the victims completely, that is the right thing to do.
Ncaa, had no business in this, they had no intention of doing any thing right for the victims and their fighting with the state of pa over the 60million proves I am right. They thought they had a money grab and I am glad the state of pa shoved that right up the ncaa's arse and said no, that money will stay in state and go to childrens charities.
Pennst the unveristy should pay a price, but rather it's football or not idk, I first and foremost believe the punishment should have come from the dept of education and dept of justice to put away those responsible and then put down further punishment on the university as they saw fit.
|24 weeks 15 hours ago||I don't feel bad for pennst, nor am I crying a river for them||
But I thik it's retarded to punish the football program and fanbase, alumni and everyone else involved with football or the university that had zip to do with this, which is everyone outside of the few people that actually knew and 4 in charge that could have done something about it.
The rioting that is the football culture of not wanting to believe the icon had something to do with covering it up. A case, although extremely weak that paterno reported it to superiors is true but he also was proven to have influenced not reporting it to 2nd mile and to the state police and arresting sandusky......so that blows that out of the water. My opinion of Joepa is forever changed as his rep was built on great character the do it right kind of person to lead young men. That's gone, but it doesn't mean the university shouldn't be able to move on and build what should have been.
Pennst deserves punishment and has got that punishment from the ncaa, I just don't think the ncaa had any business or place doing it. IE, they went to clean pennst's house and they can't even clean their own as though they had moral authority. Tell me when the ncaa went to nd, msu or any other campus to investigate sex crimes alleged by athletes?
The dept of justice and dept of education are the entities that should have handled this and should have told the ncaa to get out of their way period.
On another note, before anyone goes high moral standard about pennst and covering this up, the very reason the laws about reporting sex crimes on any federal funded university, high, middle or elementary school is in the books is because of this very reason. How many times have we heard complaints over the years of colleges sweeping rapes under the rug to keep crime statistics down. That happened at so many places across the country it is disgusting, and just as disgusting as what happened at pennst. Or athletes raping girls and getting away with it and the girls intimidated or forced to leave school for their safety all to protect the program because said player may help them win games. Those are the reasons these laws do exist. But has the ncaa ever investigated one of those that are actually involving student athletes? Never, so a case they had no business in they jumped on for media attention and a 60 million dollar money grab. Yes that money was forced to stay in the state of pa and that was after the state told the ncaa it wasn't allowing that money to go elsewhere as all funds at psu are considered state funds if the university is to pay out money. The ncaa in it's briliance tried to argue it was athletic dept funds not univerisity funds. So you see where their real motive was!
|24 weeks 16 hours ago||I realize my opinion isn't popular that's fine||
From 2002 Pennst, namely the 4 people who allowed it are culpable. Not the 40,000 who had nothing to do with this as they can't do a dang thing about rumor or innuendo, but the people who had real knowlege, Spanier, Shultz, Paterno, McQueary and his dad and one other I am forgetting could have, should have and didn't! They are the ones to be punished, put in prison for a cover up. Punishing the football program and saying the ridiculous things about blowing up the stadium is just retarded. It doesn't do a dang thing to fix what happened or punish the actual cuplprits. As they are the ones who allowed Sandusky to use the brand, facilities and anything else.
60million was only to stay in the state for children after the state of pa said it wasn't leaving and told the ncaa as much. Ncaa tried to fight it, so what does that tell you about their motive.
2002 was a real incident, no more rumor and inuendo. And the people that covered it up need to pay the price, I will always say that. They deserve prison as well, all of them. Just like anyone who knew a Michigan professor was harboring child porn....should pay the price. Not the pennst program that had nothing to do with this.
|24 weeks 17 hours ago||Ncaa is full of it and needs to be sued!||
Ncaa was way out of bounds to punish PSU as not one single by-law was broken regarding student athletes.
Second, Ncaa had zero interest in what was right. They saw a money grab, ie $60 million dollar fine! For what? To go to who, to do what with? Tell me I am wrong cause they sure as heck was not giving a dime of that money to the victims.
Not one person of the 4 who knew of the incidents are around at all.
NCAA went back to 1998 which was bs because that investigation found nothing and Sandusky was forced to step down. There was nothing anyone could do legally at that point. The legal system coudln't do anything so what was pennst going to do other than what they did at that point. 2002 the McQueary deal, from then on Jopa and company were responsible for covering up for a friend. It had nothing to do with protecting football as the ncaa had no boundary. And if paterno turns in a friend then and the chief of campus police acts, they are hero's for doing the right thing.....and what would have happened to football? Nothing, so stop the bs it was to protect football it was to protect a life long friend by joepa. Pull your heads out of the cloud that the culture of football did this, it was one friend protecting another cause nothing else was on the line. That happens every day in our society across many fronts including criminal.
Ncaa is a joke, I hope pennst sues and wins against the ncaa.
Now, Pennst deserves to face what ever punishment as a university from the Dept of Education for not reporting this as required by law. But again, why punish anyone and everyone who is not there for something that they didn't do.
Who deserves to be punished. Joepa, and the other 3 that covered this. Not the 40,000+students and facualty. Not the football players and coaches that have nothing to do with this. And I read tear down beaver stadium, seriously. Michigan just had a professor with child porn that wasn't immediately reported, uhmmm do you want to destroy the entire university and rip building down by building for this? Cause that is illogical thinking.
Oh, Sandusky, lets not forget, he is the criminal and deserves life in prison and everything that goes with that. EIther general population or solitary, idk either way......

Glassgow didn't help chip, push the nt, Miller was beat at the snap by the nt, the de gets upfield and holds contain forcing the play to stay inside. Kalis is lost and doesn't know wtf to do and doesn't block anyone.... If Kalis sets the backside block there is a cutback for Fitz and a good lane there as well.
If Glassgow helps chip on the nt and gets the nt flowing without penetration then he can scrape to the lber.
If Kalis blocks his lber or finds someone to block there is a cut back.
If the TE gets to the de and doesn't let him penetrate the hole to go through is either much bigger or there is room for Fitz to bounce.
No matter what, this play was blown up from the snap!
This happened all game long!

Players in Husker history! 2 national titles, a 3rd nc game that was a missed fg from winning 3 straight and would have been 3 straight undefeated seasons!
There is no doubt he has the ears of the husker fanbase and boosters/alumni!
But, Tom Osbourne isn't the head coach and this isn't the days of the husker option attack. Actually, they got rid of Solich 2yrs too early as they could have waited this thing out and they would have been running the Read Option spread game better than anyone! Instead they ditched all of it, all of their old recruing grounds for Callahan!
They need a head coach and assistant coaches that have recruiting cache again that can grab texas talent like they used to.
Pelini, he could be a dead man walking if they don't compete for a bigten title!

|38 weeks 16 hours ago||what is the measure though?||
What are their measures though?
IMO the measure should be for 3 types of games...
#1 Biggest Rival game, what is the atmosphere or what ever the biggest game every year is....
#2 What is the normal atmosphere for a conference game, the avg game say iowa or northwestern, solid opponent.
#3 What is it for the gimme games.... is the place dead or are the fans still rocking.....
Pennst has the best atmosphere for a big night game, and imho that is best in the country. That said, I think Michigan's night game for ND was better than Osu's big night game for Texas or Usc... that said, Osu has a great atmosphere and nobody can deny that.
I will say this, Pennst has the most fun fans in cf, I have been around them for games at Michigan and seen them at Happy Valley and they have a good time. Osu fans are just overall pissy either way... good atmosphere but man they live and die with each individual play... and their games against bad opponents that place is a tomb...and most are.
Michigan #1, osu/nd environment is entirely different, namely osu... far more intense for a home game against either of these teams. #2 Very middle of the pack in the bigten for an avg home game...crowd gets loud for 3rd downs and intimidating but why not on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th down... Seriously... Osu/nd crowd is intense every play, every down....but not for the avg team.... #3 Lets never play eastern again...nobody wants that game and fans barely stand for the victors... I don't care what they say, in 2007 the attendance was not 100,000, I would put it closer to 80,000..........so middle of the pac of bigten teams here as well.
Michigan, basically for Big games.... is up with Pennst, and Ohio st for best envirionments....for #2 and 3 avg about #5....
#1 big game environment.. Pennst, Michigan, Ohiost and Nebraska as tops...
#2 avg conf opponents Wisconsin, Pennst, Ohio st, Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa in order...
#3 Wisconsin, Nebraska, Pennst, Ohio st, Michigan, Iowa....
Jmo but those are the order and it changes based upon opponent... Measureing Pennst's biggest night game to a noon game for michigan against iowa is not a measurement of environment... Otherwise just compare same game situations...
|38 weeks 6 days ago||I just quit carrying that burden....||
2011 was incomplete only because of the state yr. And, I know many will laugh because our team was no where near ready for it....but consider the fact that they were literally a couple plays from being undefeated..........Iowa was quite literally 2 plays... and Msu was the same, quite literally a couple plays..........
None of us would have thought they were ready but...from my perspective at that time it let me put the burden down of the RR era..
Also, I carry nothing from 2004 - 2006 I really didn't. From 2007 though, it felt like an eternity...like being on the ship going down and you can't fix it.....you know you have a life raft and will be fine but you can't fix it.............that was 2007-2010 for me...............

Osu alumns felt they had a better team than 6-6, most felt they had a 9 win team and possibly better with Cooper.. So to go 6-6 in year one under tressel and lose to Michigan they were feeling was a step back from Cooper to make things even worse.
Wots I heard is tressel was told beat michigan or else.
That said, Henson, had he returned Michigan was going to a bcs bowl and a few things gone right could have played Miami in the title game.....though that miami team was sic, I don't know anyone would have wanted to play that team....but Henson, Terrell and Walker ....I would have taken that shot.....

I agree with ND not releasing him. But it seems like something else is up, otherwise why sign the loi in february only to want out a few months later.
It is good for nd not to let him out of his loi instead sending out the message to all recruits that the school they sign with can do this. Basically, sign with the school you want to play for and make sure you know before you sign.

92, not that they lost to washington, and without everit on the field the oline was a mess for that game but still..... defense was on the field all game long... Injuries that yr imho cost a natty title...
07 rosebowl... seriously, that team was alot better than the showing they had. Still kills me to this day how passive Lloyd was in calling the defense...and how they just let sc throw without going after them at all.....
01 Citrusk vs Tennessee......that hurt but mainly cause they couldn't get out of their own way making mistakes and giving the ball back to tennessee....best part of the entire game is elmer fudd fulmer was tring to run up the score and once our defense got it's feet under them, they couldn't move the ball in the air or on the ground! But was too late by then!
11 Outback Bowl vs Miss st... just the way they lost, no fight, no nothing and total beat down by an okay sec team... Recruiting is coaches working their tails off to get into recruits ears, heads and convince them this is the place for them no matter what school they are recruiting for.
Nebraska seems like they are way behind in the evaluation period as well not just sending out offers. They have litte buzz in recruiting so they are in trouble. Nebraska used to have the entire state run it's option offense for hs football so they could take walk on's on offense every yr that were tailor made to step in. That allowed them to focus a little heavier on defense in recruiting.
Nebraska isn't that far from texas, or certainly no further from texas than alabama is and other sec schools tha regularly recruit Texas....they just have to get out and work it., though Pelini has never been known for being a bigtime recruiter.

|1 year 4 days ago||bigten tourney will get better imo....||
Home court advantage is a huge deal to teams strengths from what I have watched. So when you play at msu or osu it's going to be a physically played game and refs let more things go. Msu and osu were riding our offensive players and that is something that gets called in a tourney game......
Michigan, Indiana tend to be more offensive and the calles tend to favor that style for these teams when at home. I think it's why pennst got a win, they played our boys tough in a2 physically to nock our boys off their shooting....in happy valley they got away with even more they wouldnt in a2 or in a tourney..
Biggest thing is play aggressive no matter what the refs are calling. Be aggressive offensively since they are an offensive team, and keep the defense active bigtime....The most aggressive team under control gets the calls.........That is why duke seeming owns officials but they play under control but ultra aggresive...

Fact that the school kicked them out means saban just followed what already was directed by the school.
Oversigning...well it's roster management and what needs to be addressed isn't the 25 per yr limit but it needs to be 25 plus 3 in a yr or 85 total plus 3... that way if you only have 15 available scholarships and you can't still sign 28 something the sec is still doing.

But then again, so should Devin and so should many others. Rich made tons of player personel mistakes in his tenure but I think the biggest part of that was his coaching staff.
Bruce Tall was a DB coach his entire career and was the DLine coach at Michigan....I had read he attended coaching clinics for coaching dline that spring/summer.. 2008... Shafer and Gibby were the 2 db coaches for that 2008 team and Hop the lber coach...a safeties coach his entire career........
Bruce Tall being the dline coach tells you everything you ever needed to know about RR's tenure. He never adapted or changed and defense starts up front just like offense. If the oline performed just like the dline did, that oline coach would have been fired....Rich protected Tall at dline rather then move him to db coach like he should have the moment Shafer was fired...and took the fall.....

Career move for motgomery isn't a miss by hoke, and to put that out is a bit foolish imo. It's no secret Montgomery is a very good dline coach or that Michigan can essentially have 3 dline coaches... so I would guess far more comes down to career move, more responsibility. Reconnecting with stoops, also Iowa alumni.. and many other things in it for Montgomery.....
Hoke, didn't block it, offered to match compensation and Mongomery still wanted to move on.
Most likely our staff hires a olber coach.... rather or not they hire an olber or dline coach for the replacement I am good with Hoke and Mattison selecting assistants...something I think is a great strength of theirs.

Didn't get enough players involved offensively, relied to much on burke. Didn't move well offensively or defensively at times, allowed easy baskets by Zeller. Too many possessions one pass and a shot, no flow, movement kills this......
|1 year 4 weeks ago||My understanding is it's a violation||
Remember usc had to quit having dinner at Papadikis's restraunt as they always happened to have former players show up and then the second thing they got in trouble for was having a commitment ceremony....
Osu got in trouble for having Chris Carter bump into recruits at osu games ....
This happens all the time though...........
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Oline then QB||
Oline, unless the guy has already been in a solid s&c program it's hard to predict how strong he can get while adding the needed weight.. and is he that type of worker. One reason LTT in this current class was highly rated is he has the athleticism to be elite, but doesn't have the fundamentals, doesn't have near the core strength at all to play for a couple yrs...
QB, it's really a position that can be hard to predict. Competitiveness, natural leader, very much the has to be preparing more then anyone else type player. Getting that is so hard...some guys are just better athletically in today's read/spread option run game and start for that reason but the guy that can get the ball where it needs, recognize a defense, blitz, know his routes, route tree vs the coverage and hit it... That's hard to find a really good qb and develope him.....
|1 year 5 weeks ago||Players did feel entitled...||
I would agree with that and part of what Rich was doing was coming to bust up "The Country Club" mentality...and yes, there were players who had that entitlement feeling...it was posted on the interweb message boards all over including mgoblog....scout, rivals all of the boards.
But not hiring quality coaches, hiring 4 db coaches instead of hiring the coordinator and letting him build a staff along with his goal for a defense, and not being willing to work with the talent he had and recruit that talent to him cost him year one and ultimately led to year two debacle as well and by then it was pure survival mode.
No athletic department, Lloyd Car support, former player support was going to save him from then on out and anyone arguing otherwise has their head burried in the sand.
|1 year 5 weeks ago||You actually think Casteel would have made things different?||
So lets say they open the bank and give Casteel 800k a year.....Rich still hired 3 other db coaches to run his defense, and you think Casteel would fix that?
Not one true dline coach among them. You think it's an accident our 2 most talented position groups on defense Dline, then lber were the most under performing and led to a defense giving up the most points in school history consecutively, yearly for 3 seasons?
Oh, Casteel better then Shafer? Yeah....get back to me when you figure that one out.
|1 year 5 weeks ago||Michigan owes Rich nothing, Rich owes Michigan nothing||
It didn't work.
Blame Michigan for not accepting him, rolling out the financial red carpet..oh wait, he got more money for recruiting, got the facilities, got the total treatment to succeed from Michigan.
Blame AD Staff and support staff... You mean to tell me they didn't show up to do their jobs every day? You mean to tell me they talked bad about him and didn't support the guy running around like a bull in a china shop saying you guys don't know how to win in football, I do in a place that was very highly successfull for a very long time. Wow, color me crazy... cause if it was that bad, tell me why those support staff people weren't fired? I'm waiting.
People outside but former players, coaches and alumni didn't support him? Are you kidding me? How many supported Bo when he walked in the door and turned the world upside down with what was considered a good team for Bump coming back? Nobody except his AD until he beat ohio st.......
Rich... He hired 4 db coaches to run the defense. Fired all of Lloyd's assistants (his right), assasination style...which burnt alot of bridges immediately, his right though..., We saw tons of players leave, 36 by my count that first yr total, but Rich kept saying we will win with them and we are going to install our system now and not worry about who is here. He put out the single worst defense in school history. He put out the lowest win total in a 12 game season in school history..........., it was that bad....
Rich ran off the players he needed to win, his recruiting never took shape as half of his classes were having about 30% never make it in or gone by the end of their freshman year.
So, you can blame anything you want on Michigan, but the fact is, just like Bo, the tools were there, were given to Rich and he didn't get it done. Had Rich worked harder to endear himself to everyone as they claimed he is a genuine people person, then maybe we would be more forgiving....but the fact is, 2 wins against nd, msu and osu and multiple blow out losses, and 3-9, 5-7, 7-6 records and 6 total bigten wins in 3 yrs got him fired. Not one person who did not like him or support him caused that, or made Dave Brandon fire him.
|1 year 6 weeks ago||This is the way it's going...||
Only bad thing is you will have to buy season tickets or 3 or 4 game ticket packs to get the premium games as well. I will get pissed if I have to pay $150 for osu and stuck with $80 for eastern michigan and central nevada...you get the idea..
Prices of non premium games you can find on line for half of face value aren't going down with ad ticket prices.....so it still may come out better to get the tickets on line.
|1 year 8 weeks ago||This would be a major mistake if not done correctly||
Lesser schools stars would be contacted via the old hs coach, his friends someone...we know how that works... This would become first an sec and big12 loop hole and other conferences would have to do it to keep up......
Stronger limits would have to be put in place imho.......first I think 3.0 gpa would have to be the level to transfer without sitting.....And schools should be able to block a set number of schools and particular if they feel those schools have tampered by contacting the athletes.

I hope they can celebrate so much after a loss to the tide
|1 year 9 weeks ago||nice article......||
You would believe that was a win for nd reading the article.......but if their biggest win of the era was a 23-0 loss as well as the consecutive losses...well now...
I like how some would discredit the early dominance of the 1900's but when they try to make nd look good suddenly Michigan was the superbowl champs and little nd stood up to them....always entertaining to see the writen biases.

You couldn't blame him, looked like he was going into an nfl offense, nfl qb, wr's he was suppose to complete that puzzle......reality is Kiffin didn't have a great staff there and it shows.. Not to mention he can be such a douche people enjoy him failing. Silas, I would think his stock would have been better to stay at pennst.....
|1 year 10 weeks ago||don't be ridiculous.....||
None of us have any love of msu but the above statements are absurd. Hollis did have the game with unc on a carrier and that was really cool. They also worked to have the outdoor game with Michigan and other events as well.
The idea was better then it could have ever been executed.....The reallity is the fact that tv networks weren't willing to bite, how could they produce 4 games on the same location at the same time......the logistics would be impossible across 4 channels.. and then the other part....such a major event would have to sell tickets for the schools to go, and guarrantee so much tv revenue for 8 teams.............with no single game getting the floor and tv time to it'self. Thus that would drag ratings for such and event.
Good idea on paper cause it sounds cool....just no way to realistically pull it off........
|1 year 10 weeks ago||that game was tough to watch||
One of those games where you should have had a nice lead and instead you kick field goals cause wide open td passes are missed, cut back lanes in run game are missed or penalties that stop drives.... and they let them hang around till they finally took the lead...........It was one of those I thought they were going to blow it and hand it over... and they nearly did...but they did get it done and pull it out.
|1 year 10 weeks ago||denard's future is wr/rb||
Not at corner....corner makes a mistake they give up a td......and that mistake isn't one speed prevents cause a mistake gives up 3 or 4 full speed strides before you get the shot to correct it.....and a good nfl wr is already going down field and fast enough that you paid for it with 6pts......
Denard is that dangerous in the open field that getting him 5 to 10 touches a game is worth it....cause he can break it on any touch and is good enough to generate his own yds.......

2007 osu game, my tickets were section 9, row 27, end seats and the guy infront of me a Michigan fan and his gf an osu fan...she was on the endseat..., an osu fan going down to his seats a few rows further down turned said some drunken jiberish and planted one on her....... she went off, she was going off hating osu fans..... and a few things about having to throw up.... he ended up being escorted out as enough fans complained about him, including osu fans.....
2004 we had an angry Irate Michigan fan, dude was going off ready to kill msu's team and was letting their fans have it. He didn't make any contact or get in anyone's face, it was mostly funny but if someone would have challenged him, who knows... he wasn't drunk at all....

|1 year 12 weeks ago||Why attend now||
Game attendance vs watching from home..
Parking $20.00 - $40.00
Gas $5.00 - $100.00 depending on driving.. I drive 8hrs round trip to attend 3 games a yr....
If you add it up it's about $300 to attend each game when adding everything in. Yeah you can get some ticket deals and lower that some but the reality is to see the games you want, it's getting expensive, and yet you are forced to see the low profile games at the same rate to get season tickets to see the higher profile games. And to make that worse our schedule is quite unbalanced, ND, Nebraska and Ohiost all either in Michigan or away...so one yr it's a great schedule and the next it sucks as only Msu is the big home game.....

Reader 71, you should post on gbmwolverine.com..... that sight actually appreciates and looks for input from posters that is insightfull.
I had been posting all yr how our line is whiffing blocks and lbers are coming free....it didn't happen last yr and we ran the same scheme. Since the only losses on oline were Molk and Huyge where is the problem.... Imo it's Mealer not getting the calls right. But I also recall last yr the oline didn't take off until Barnum was injured and schofield moved to LG ...........
Who knows but that is why I think Mealler is not getting the calls correct.
Btw, big props to the posters negging the one poster who actually understands and explains line play on this board. I digress though , you guys all played oline, are schematical geniuses and reader 71 stayed at a holiday inn..... Now, if you all want to complain the play calling is way to conservative and predictable....I am on board cause I have called out our plays from the couch and in the stands and if I can, I know the defenses we play can.
|1 year 21 weeks ago||have seen it..||
But not that uptempo unless 2 minute drill........
Lots of teams did this with the option, they would wear teams out by just going and going and going...not as much as today where it was no huddle, line up and go...but I still remember some teams would just line up and run the same triple option and qb would make the call which option it would be and left or right.....power/weak, triple, speed, veer..........
|1 year 22 weeks ago||both issues||
Neither has much merit.
1 Pennst isn't responsible for his legal fees if he went and hired his own attourney
2 Not interviewed for his old job. Did pennst hire a new qb coach or is the Head Coach or OC filling that role? I think the difference in performance thus far to date justifies not hiring him back....

Alabama landed 23 dlineman in the previous 4 classes... Michigan landed 12 and more then half of them are no longer on roster.....that should explain where the current status and difference is.......Also, the same with olineman, Alabama landed 24 olinemin in 4 classes Michigan 14 I believe and half of the olineman are gone....
You win being strong in the trenches, taking care of the football and athletes that can make things happen with the ball and on defense!
|1 year 26 weeks ago||91 Washington.....||
91 Washington in the rosebowl is the best imo.............(but I preface that one because Steve Everrit didn't play and that messed up our oline)
91 Fsu, remember Grbac had 2 int's returned for td's... that's at least a 14pt swing given to fsu..... their offense was no more unstoppable then ours was. They had a slightly better defense...and didn't Lance Dottin miss that game as well... I know Everitt played with a broken jaw which was amazing...
2000 Orange Bowl... that team was tough...one of the most physical games I remember..Brady/Terrell was the difference
03/06 usc, I thought were great but when their program immediatly took a drop off after balco got exposed through the Ting Brothers there....

No, this game was lost regardless so let me say.....
1 Dirty hits were a joke... 2 steps from denard and dude lays him out...that's roughing the passer not called.
2 Lewan was hit after the play was over from behind on the play he got hurt on....yeah, that's efffing low and dirty..............
3 Helmet to Helmet........ saw 3 of those that didn't get called....uhmm crable-smith anyone...
4 Lbers cannot jack a wr in route, that is a penalty and is included in the defenseless player, and yes at the beginning of the game one of the bama lbers jacked one of our wr's.....right infront of the middle ref behind the lbers...
5 Holding call on Lewan when Facemask was against bama joke...
6 Facemask by Barrett Jones, I wanna say on bigwill, nearly took his head off not called, most missed this but I know our staff will see it in tape.......
7 Lots of after the play action by the bama oline...........now some of it's football, but some of it is just low dirty play..........
there was more but I don't care to get into it..........Bama was the better team but the refs do need to make calls that are there, and know jacking a player helmet to helmet isn't just playing football, not when you are emphasizing protecting the players.

Honestly, I think Denard would be within a step or two in a 40 but still think Bolt takes 40, i'm thinking denard is underestimating how fast olympic sprinters get off the blocks.

You spend your 20 grand or more, buy what you want. But keep in mind, you buy a jap model or korean and the profits go there even if the car is assembled in us. Same as you buy a ford/gm and the profits go to detroit, even if it's assembled in mexico or canada.....
Next, negotiate your deal esp if you don't get a family discount but even if you do, negotiate a few things......
1 Negotiate a rental/loaner car if for some reason your vehicle has any problems and has to be in the shop outside of routine maintenance...................you buy a ford/toyota/honda/chrysler/gm, it's not their fault your car had a problem and you didn't plan on being down a vehicle........and it's their job to honor the warranty, not give you another car...your dealer on the otherhand, you can negotiate that before you buy the car.
2 Don't tell the salesman your budget and monthly payment, you buy your car on what you can afford and stick to it. Do your research, know the dealer cost and negotiating room...don't listen to them when they tell you that info isn't right or they go by a black book instead of kelly bluebook or anything else, you go buy info you have and theirs is meaningless and you can walk, let them know you will walk...
3 Check financing options.....you can go through manufacturer credit, usually top option for 0% financing. But if you aren't check rates at your bank/credit union and compare to what the dealer has...he may give extra incentives on the purchase but only if you go through his bank to finance the vehicle, and that usually means higher interest rates then going rates...
4 Perceptions,,,,,,,ignore them......anyone on this board that hasn't bought an american car in the last 5yrs, ignore them, period. The entire industry has totally changed the last 10yrs completely....Toyota is not the same manufacturer they were 10yrs ago....their vehicles are not as reliable and the reliability ratings have been greatly misleading. Something people don't know is Toyota's board of directors were indicted for falsifying reliability reports in japan about 8yrs ago....here in the us they have hid and buried their problems till settling lawsuits in the billions to replace engines due to the sludge problem with oil......something I know for a fact they were blaming on owners till they were forced to replace those engines.....in the end they replaced millions of engines in the us that were sold over a 6 yr period earlier in the 2000's.........
Toyota, Honda, Ford, Gm, all of the manufactuers now use the same quality control firms to evaluate their designs and parts. All of their parts suppliers supply the same parts to the other manufacturers.
5 Safety, Last thing on this..........I do own a fusion, and this car is flat out solid. In another post I stated my car was tboned bigtime and hit in the passenger side by a girl that ran a red light........I am telling you, I would't have trusted my inlaws accord, my old altima in that wreck and certainly not my buddies camery that seemingly has far chintzier interior then the camry's of the 80's and 90's when I thought the camry was a great car....still thought the accord was better car overall.
Again, it's your purchase, but ignore perceptions, test drive what want.........
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Last 2 cars....||
03 altima, 07 fusion....both 4cylinders.......Altima slightly nicer interior, fusion better overall vehicle........fusion got tboned by a girl ran a redlight with my child in the passenger seat where the car was hit, other driver going over 45mph......daughter wasn't hurt...........I would never have trusted the altima to hold up to that accident......and the fusion wasn't totaled, the other drivers car was!
Fusion is far more solid then the camry and accord..........inlaws have new accord, friends have camry.....I'd take my fusion over them every day of the week.......Seats are far more comfortable in the fusion,
BTW, 100,000 on my 07 fusion, 2 wrecks, still going and not near the rattle trap my buddies camry is...and never a problem. Though he continues to tell me how great his camry is after having it repaired he will say if it were a ford it would have been in the shop more....I love the excuses for honda/toyota ......................perception is everything though....

That is the best way to sum up Rich's tenure. Couldn't get himself out of it for some reason.
Rich handled Denard and Tate very well while here, but little else.
|1 year 30 weeks ago||Magnuson....||
When total change comes nobody is really happy save the ones that were disgruntled before. Nobody was disgruntled othern then Lloyd got complacent...they didn't want whole sale change they just wanted it updated and mondernized and back to a winner at the Michigan level.
Rich, didn't handle media well, didn't handle players well and didn't handle the alumni/fanbase well. Ohio st isn't just another game on the schedule and lip service later means nothing to a fanbase when you say, it's still just another game on the schedule.
The reality is Rich lost the job when he hired 4 defensive backs coaches to run his defense, lost all of the remaining offensive talent to nfl or transfer that could have helped him win in year one and made that even more devastating by firing his defensive coordinator to bring in someone else to work with a disgruntled defensive staff rather then let the dc he had get a staff he would work with.
Rich is a good coach, nobody can deny that. He made many wrong and bad decisions here and the naysayers were there every step of the way to point them out. But the fact remains is Rich had he succeeded would have been loved and revered, instead he was ran out unceremoniously.
|1 year 32 weeks ago||Ncaa is bypassing it's own due processes||
Ummmmm first off the ncaa has no flipping right to punish pennst in this matter no matter how angry we are at what happened. Don't tell me about any moral clause in ncaa bylaws those are aimed at protecting athletes and you all know this.
Pennst will get hammered and deservedly so by the dept of justice and dept of education for what happened and those responsible for enabling sandusky are going to prison, joepa aside and even he gets his sentence with his entire legacy in ashes now.
So now the fact that the ncaa is jumping into this mess when they haven't been able to properly handle, auburn, ohiost, usc, north carolina, miami, oregon and others they want to deal the death blow to pennst for something completely out of their jurisdiction and not a single page in their bylaws about this..............................no it isn't pennst that should suffer the ncaa death penalty but the ncaa itself!
|1 year 33 weeks ago||costas is another talking head....just like most talking heads||
The inestigation was worthless.....emails weren't released and findings were on interview conversations that weren't detailed, written down and released but very publically laid blame at joepas feet............
Joe is guilty, I'll say that........but the majority of guilt lies at the feet of the former president and head of campus police...........jmo, they did have the power to tell joe what was what..... I also feel it was all about protecting a life long friend and nothing to do with protecting football.....
|1 year 35 weeks ago||you read to much into every word||
Every person involved should and will pay for this through the justice dept! What part of that did you miss in my post?
Second, what part of any ncaa rules against football were broken? You cannot seperate the two, I can. As for institutional control, nope, doesn't fit. The rules at present are around athletic cheating, academic cheating and recruiting cheating to gain a unfair advantage. Not failure to report something, of which there are rules by the dept of education for which pennst will be punished and lose millions perhaps 100's of millions.
Destroy an institution, meaning pennst as a university, long established, will exist long after this. But some out of anger would destroy the institution over the cover up by a few people. The cover up, not the abuse...........cause they in fact are different crimes. And yes, the cover up is horendous, and they will be punished, they will go to jail for it.
My point about going after every d1 program, it's pointing out solely that if the ncaa is going to make up rules to punish pennst then carry that banner to investigate every thing covered up by programs, every single program investigate because we all know things have been covered up and swept under the rug for the purpose of winning games. There is a diffence in what I say, if you cannot seperate them then I can't help you.
I am as angered and outraged as anyone at what happened and all responsible parties should be punished for their part in enabling sandusky. But you don't change rules midstream for punishment, that is a dictatorship. So if the ncaa is going to change the rules out of anger at any point then go back and investigate everyone.
Again, how many college girls get raped, given date rape drugs and colleges find nothing due to no evidence............how many had been raped by athletes decades ago and it was covered up by schools because of the big game to win next saturday............what, you want to tell me those things never happened or am I on the conspiracy theory.........
Where did I once suggest the rapes of young boys by Jerry Sandusky be swept under the rug? Where did I once suggest those that covered this over should be let go and this be swept under the rug? I didn't, I stated they all should be punished to the degree of their crime. Pennst football program isn't on that list unless others decide the pennst football program committed a crime that isn't on the rule books. So suggesting I compare it to sweeping under the rug is sillly. I am saying if the ncaa is going to apply this to ncaa rules, quit being hypocrites about it and investigate every program for what has been covered up in the past and bring that to light.
|1 year 35 weeks ago||omardontscare, how is this loic?||
Regarding ncaa rules and football how is it loic? There are no by-laws for this and you can't make them up midstream to punish pennst because you are angry. What pennst football player did this have to do with? What advantage was gained by pennst in football by this? What recruiting or practice rules were violated by it?
That's the point, none and if the ncaa punishes the fb program it will have to make up rules to do so. Beyond that pennst as a university is going to pay dearly for this, for the actions of a few! They will pay out financially to victims, they will lose 100's of millions in funding and some will go to jail for this. And yet you would destroy an institution for what a few people covered up.
BTW, perhaps every single d1 school should be investigated to see if any program has ever covered for rape by an athlete or professor because the fact is that has happened and everyone knows it and we all know those things have happened not all that long ago in cf where players were protected by schools so the school could win football games......how about brushing under the rug crimes commited by athletes brushed under the rug...................and those were done to win football games and yet I do not see you carrying the banner to investigate every program to find the evidence and burn every program into the ground.
|1 year 35 weeks ago||explain .........||
Explain what happened as rules broken regarding ncaa for punishment of ncaa violations? Cause there isn't any, and no matter how angry we are, there were no football rules broken, no athletic department rules broken. This has nothing to do with cheating and football.
Were laws broken, yes, and several will be dealt with by the courts. Sandusky is gone, locked up and is getting his just deserves now..... The culprits that enabled him further by not reporting are next in line.
So punishing the football program is stupid at this point. I don't mean cause it weakens the bigten, pennst or helps other programs with them being weak, I mean it's plain stupid as you have to make up rules to punish them for something that outside of coaches connection to football nothing in this benefited pennst's football program. What's hard to understand about that?

|1 year 35 weeks ago||psu and punishment||
So it's really fair to punish the coaching staff that is there now? It's really fair to punish the scholarhsip players there now? It's fair to punish the alumni, students, fans that attend the school, the games donate money because of the actions of a few people that are no longer at the school and for something that happend now 10yrs ago?
I really don't get all the kick psu out of the bigten or give the football program the death penalty talk. Why, for what? Tell me the advantage gained on the football field cause that is what ncaa rules are around. Name one advantage in any game gained, name one recruit they got by this or off season/in season advantage? None, ok move on.
Pennst as a university faces some severe trials coming up. US dept of education, fbi, CPS and others are investigating............at stake is 100's of millions in federal funding that could be lost or taken for a period of time that would just be devastating to the university. In the end I don't think much happens here because pennst is a billion dollar business the gov wouldn't want to take down. But I think they open up several avenues in restrictions educators do not want.

Sports are extra curricular and not a right, thus a try-out.
The arguement now imo is how much money in fees did the family have to pay after he made the team. If he made the team and then during the regular season he was removed so another player who did not make the original tryouts could be on the team then the family has a very serious arguement.
Some of it is just whining, learn and deal with it, but the other is if you paid fees upon making the team then out side of dismissal from the team for rules violations agreed upon to remain on the team, there is no justification for this dismissal!

Nfl is the biggest bunch of hypocrites on the planet now. The league has known forever that bounties existed, known forever that headshots caused concussions, and known forever that players take dirty plays to get those bounty payouts, to take out other players to win a game since great success results in huge paydays in the next paycheck and name recognition...........
Players are just as big of hypocrites because they played the game doing these things and now want to blame the nfl. They blame the nfl for beginning to do what they should have done a long time ago.
Players, Coaches all bred this atmosphere when everyone made fun of the qb in practice calling them soft since they were off limits, bragged about the huge hits............
And don't get me started on the don't ask don't tell of ped abuse in the nfl and all professional leagues!

1st, either force schools to honor scholarships for 4yrs or allow the athlete to transfer at will........... ie the athletes have no representation so every bit of this is against the athlete. The coach can bolt for another job without sitting, the athlete cannot transfer without losing a year. The coach can take the players scholarship and the athlete has no recourse.........
2nd, NCAA needs to allow athletes to work and make money period..............this is bogus that they cannot work and are required to give so much to their sport but cannot make money to go out on saturday night, buy themselves anything...or go grab grub.........so either they need a decent stipend or be allowed to work.
3rd, Ncaa needs to fix these scholarships in 2 ways....one to protect the athlete but 2nd to protect themselves..........By making scholarships 4yr scholarships they can force players who leave early for nba/nfl/nhl/mlb to pay back their scholarship so you help your cause a bit there and in turn you protect the athletes that didn't have a shot to go to professional leagues so they can complete their degrees as a student athlete!
|1 year 46 weeks ago||if she wants to go, see ya.....||
I don't get the need to hit women or try to force them into something........if she wants to leave sure grabbing her and hitting her is going to fix it. If she blew your cash hitting her is sure going to fix that as well, it will get all your cash right back.......................dude, get away from her if she is causing this much issue in your life.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Coaches also must know....||
If you have your olineman chop block my dt, the next play you pull your olineman my dt can chop block him, it works the same way....................so message sent can be sent right back to the other staff!
Actually if a staff does that I hope our staff sends the same message right back! That's just bogus. Actually I hoped our dline would have done that to msu when they opened the game with the high/low chop blocks that weren't called.
|1 year 46 weeks ago||How would the nfl be different?||
Say mike martin was injured and Beilema still said that, wouldn't that open up the same lawsuits by college players? If a coach makes a statement they sent a message on an illegal play in the game and said player gets injured or career ended by injury that door is wide open!
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Msc is right||
Jalen also accepted cash, pocket money as he called it, but he still admitted to taking some. Chris was the offender here, and if chris came clean and admitted everything, when it began and made things right, I could see it.......
They shouldn't go up unless chris took the big money after declaring for the nba....outside of that.....it's hard to put it in any light that isn't negative....

Which one greater affects my kid 5yrs from now?
5yrs from now Petrino's issue is an after thought, correct? 5yrs from now Jim Tressel will just be able to be hired by an ncaa institution after a 5yr show cause limitation has expired.
So, your son is being recruited and Petrino shows up and leaves his recruiting pitch. The next day Tressel shows up and gives his recruiting pitch. Which one talks about being a good christian first? Because both commited grave sins according to the most basic christian teachings. Both lied and covered over a matter, both violated laws of christianity so tell me again which is worse?
Petrino's sins are obvious...adultry, lying, covering over a lie.
Tressel harder to answer but lying, covering over a lie and having never come clean about the entire lie constitutes him as still lying!
|1 year 47 weeks ago||people forget some of the things about tressel||
1, The direct accusation that he fixed raffles at camps to give star players the prizes.....that is simply flat out misleading to the 500 kids that paid big bucks to attend....$500 for a camp and you had no shot to win the random prizes and it went to the kids invited to camp who got in for free......
2, Tressel lied several times and covered up what was happening at both youngstown st and ohio.... if the coverup is worse then the crime...ummm tressel did it multiple times and this leads to....how many times in the past......
3, Tats, Cars, and other perks................I would be afriad my kid would be left hanging in his mess 2 or 3yrs in if I let him play for Tressel.
4 Would I have to worry he would allow felon drug trafficing thugs on the team around my kid? Would I have to worry about bringing in the lowest of the low just to win?
In answer, I would let my kid play for petrino long before I would Tressel. Petrino would have cause for concern but essentially adultry he is hurting himself and family and he has to face that as well and the public side is nobody else's business. Lets not get high and mighty on this board about that when this country has over a 50% divorce rate and the majority of children are now born out of wedlock. Relationships are screwed up anymore and it's become acceptable for people to do this unless they are a public figure and the public needs a reason to bag on them.
Adultry, if it's the moral high ground here, don't talk on this unless you have never had premarital sex, never commited adultry and live according to the standards you are holding Bobby Petrino to. Lying to his employer and on police reports.....the coverup....I get that and I get all of it regarding adultry.............huge huge issues......

the band itself or "in the big house" ............I don't listen to the band, "in the bighouse" I thought was good for converting a fight song into a rock theme that is still safe for little ears and the bluehairs.............. seriously what else are you going to do with it and keep it family friendly.....
All in all people take their music, I say that loosely, as personal as they do their sports teams, some even more personally. Heck scroll through each band or vocalists videos on youtube and you see nearly as many haters as there are fans posting back and forth...and no shot at anyone on this board but music fans are as bias as any without regard for true talent when it comes to musicians. I may not like many bands or artists per say but I do know who is talented and who is all show and little talent.....there is a major difference some understand nothing about music but know how to entertain, others are great musically but need tons of help to entertain...few are both....

Question for yourself on your sources. In my time I have found many sources push many things......one thing I found off is that your sources are telling schools they are full outside of a a couple positions.....
Unless a few things change or the staff has a few silent commits then the source info is fwiw.....

Didn't diggs bail out of a visit with no notification and wouldn't hs coaches be more appreciative of a staff notifying not to visit before hand that they are full rather then wait till after the visit?
Why would they take offense to not accepting a visit and saying we are full....essentially that means visiting would waste your time and we do not want to do that.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||Cissoko's problems were not height related||
Cissoko had no confidence againat floyd or tate, it showed when he played against floyd in the army aa game and then when he lined up against him vs nd as well.......he was lost in coverage, lost when the ball was in the air and was simply shell shocked in that game...the staff should have pulled him in the 1st qtr and ran out anyone and told them line up and run with them.............
The 2nd half plan helped out a ton that game, having them start 10yds off the ball and drop 2-5yds to give the out pattern but keep their eye on the release and not get burned coming up to hard....they also focused on taking the te out of the game knowing without eliminating the te from the passing game it was over.....ie at least to the wr's there were incompletions.....focusing on the te's and running game helped get nd to some 3rd and longs and a few incompletions to save the game...
Look how Jt Floyd did against floyd this yr from nd, wasn't perfect but he played his leverage well and took the easy quick pass away and made nd look elsewhere..............
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Kickoffs used to be at the 35 right?||
Yes, ok we established that, and was moved back because of too many touchbacks? Yes.... So now they are putting it back to the 35 to get more touchbacks but moving the coverage teams start point limit to 5yds from ten.
Imo it's a great rule change , not that anyone cares but the biggest thing was getting rid of the 10yd head start........ And if called correctly they cannot start running until the kicker has passed them and cannot cross the 35 till after the ball is kicked.
It's up to officials to throw the flag really when coverage guys would get those huge running starts....ie get running momentum going and then turn upfield for the 10yd and pass the 30 or 35 back in the day and dang near be at the 50 within a second of kickoff....heck I remember guys being at the 20 when the kick returner caught the ball....Nebraska, Fsu and Miami were the worst offenders and never got flagged for it......
|2 years 4 weeks ago||I think a couple guys||
could get offered but down the line, maybe camp offers.
Cass Tech olineman and Dlineman have a shot....dt poet thomas has a shot........and a couple other instate oline if they are late bloomers.......
Dillard imo, if you think he can play for Michigan then go after him hard, go win the fight! Elmer going to nd early helps as it stops you from focusing on him for 6 months only to lose him to nd, but I thought it was obvious early to the staff he was a longshot at best.

First you want us to tell you how to negatively recruit Michigan and then you want us to tell you how we would negatively recruit ohio........This should be obvious as there is one answer to everything, just crawl up the mountain to see the old one in the cave somewhere in asia, seek his advice. This is Michigan fer godsakes
And if you remember that with anything you deal with, B1G, The Game, Recruiting and admit defeat, you will be ok and your health much better.

He had 2 fumbles and the muffed punt that he should have stayed away or picked the ball up off the bounce. But either way he cost his team 10 points and could have been worse had his team mates not recovered the other fumble!
He was carrying the ball loose all game long letting it get away from his body, really suprised harbaugh didn't eat him alive on the sidelines for that one.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||Suprised Kiffin didn't restrict nd||
Agholor being drawn to it I get from a younger player. What it really says is Kelly knows how to recruit. Other recruiters say do you want to play for a raging madman and Kelly says do you want to play for a coach that wants to win and is as competitive as you are or a coach that looks ho hum.
Reality, I want a coach that shows some fire but is still under control. For my taste I would like Brady with more fire at times as well but never like Kelly. Kelly is out of control rather then being a fierce competitor and there is a difference.

teams to play in bowl games unless they won the bigten title and go to the rosebowl. Not it was odd to see how few teams won 11 games but given most of the 70's it was bigten title or go home, I get it. Some of those 10 win teams would have had some bowl victories.
10 win seasons were the bench mark of success for a long time, not to mention everyone always saying Michigan scheduled themselves out of the mnc game by having 2 top ooc games one always being nd and the other someone else...back in the day of nd being a dominant program.

They have no bylaws against this, their bylaws and jurisdiction was restricted to competition and rules related, ie recruiting, practice, contact time and academics. None of these issues are covered even in any bylaw.
jmo, pennst should give their report to the ncaa along with a great big efff off this isn't your jurisdiction and and fyi these are the steps we took to clean house and make sure that the people are gone that failed this situation and these steps are in place to prevent it from ever happening again, thanks for inquiring.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||dantonio will||
Dantonio will try and take some ohio coaches that aren't retained by the new rock star coach on their rock star staff..........
Next season, lets wait till after spring to get a clearer picture. Wisconsin breeds top olineman and servicable statue qb's so with Montey Ball back they will be better then many may think, it's the defense that needs an infusion of speed in the back 7 that I do not see happening but may still be good enough to win the bigten
Pennst, lets see what happens there cause the only thing holding pennst back from the bigten title was a qb, so lets see how things end up in happy valley with the new coach and if they can get a competent qb coach and an offense that throws the ball beyond the 1st down marker....
Ohio, I think this season is another disaster under the rockstar, namely because they lose their top offensive talent save the qb and the defense is a disaster as well right now.....
Michigan, our team replaces Molk, vanbergen and Martin, koger, hemmingway and roundtree...so settling out the center position, a deepthreat wr, a te any te, and dline has to settle out.... I think some positions just get better next yr with 2nd yr players and fr, ie lber and safety..... So lets see how it all plays out!
|2 years 8 weeks ago||Narduzzi will be a loss||
but not one that cannot be overcome, if dantonio hires a good replacement nothing is missed.

vatech was daring Michigan to throw, and they sold out to stop the run, cause it was obvious what was happening....they could have ran play action and told denard throw it out of the endzone if he isn't open.......
But denard isn't a throw it away qb and will hesitate and take a sack if the receiver isn't open. I would have done the same thing the staff did, Hemmingway or Roundtree may have got inside position and hit the post hard for a td, but I wouldn't have trusted roundtree to protect the ball if it wasn't thrown well or slightly behind.

why you are upset at a ohio douchenozzle with a microphone? They spiel agenda, if you have to call in, just ask why he is bending over for secESPiN when he goes to work? Ask him why he is no better then the 2 dollar whore doing anything for that buck...but I expect nothing less from a buck i

Well the bigten needs to straighten itself out..........The bigten will not start winning all the bigger bowls till the 4 premier teams step up to where they should be, leading and winning this conference. Michigan, pennst, ohio and Nebraska.........these programs have to represent and the only way things change is to win these bowl games.
Michigan under hoke will be just fine....
Ohio I think we all know will be fine in 2yrs under um
Nebraska, pelini really needs to pickup the offense, that thing is archaic and where is the blackshirts.
Pennst, tbd, they could get a bigtime coach but I doubt it! imo they would be better off sticking with bradley...but they also need to clean house....

The play before the spike, rewatch that play and you can count a full 2 seconds before the clock started for that play! The clock ending on that spike, they shouldn't have had the chance because the clock should have been zero at that moment.
Also go back to the start of the drive, 2nd down when leaf was in the endzone stepping up for the throw there was holding in the endzone. Game over.
Next play again there was holding at the 3yd line.
Then we get to the pass interference. It looked like the official was going to call that on Michigan, they were protecting wazzu ................and he held the flag when mckenzie caught the ball.....
Imho, I still thought Lloyd should have either went for the fg and the 8pt lead or went for the 1st down and ended the game.

But the fact that it was even mentioned by he and the zona ad tells you how bad Rich wan'ts it. He had a larger recruiting budget, top flight facilities, and more money for assistants offered him then 8 other bigten schools and yet he doesn't feel he had support.

Staff is telling recruits ahead of time, If you commit, that scholarship is yours, as in we will not offer that scholarship to any other recruit. In turn if you commit, we want you commited to Michigan since will will not recruit other athletes for that scholarship, it's yours. Coaching staff's have to draw a line somewhere with recruits, and it somewhat gets rid of the games recruits play.
If you commit and are visiting other schools that means you may sign with other schools and not michigan and we will not hold that scholarship for you as we are recruiting to fill our open scholarships.
Pharoe Brown is a perfect example, they took his commitment and when he visited elsewhere they no longer considered him a commit and opened up recruiting to his scholarship.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||bcs is political and about money, right now the sec has||
wrestled total control, they have used the bigten's way down perception and the same with the pac12, why usc isn't usc and oregon keeps getting beat by every good defense they play. The big12 imploded and has no credibility so they hang on the sec's coat tails and votes with the sec and the sec lets them so they can put another big12 team in the bcs title game they want to ensure the sec gets the win. Follow all that.... great, its corrupt in every way and the bigten has a part in it just right now the sec is the dominant player.
Alabama loses and drops 3 spots, Oklahoma lost earlier this yr and drops 4 spots, wisconsin lost to a 1 loss team and dropped 10 spots. Stanford loses and drops 5 spots, Oregon lost to lsu and dropped 8 spots, Michigan lost and dropped 10 spots, Michigan wins and climbs 3 while Oklahoma loses a second game and barely drops, okie st loses to an unranked opponent and barely drops.
Point is, I don't care who arkansas, alabama, oklahoma and okie st lost to they deserved to drop major spots in the polls and everyone else move up in their place. That's how it works but for the sec and big12 teams riding their coat tails that isn't how it's working...........Vatech should be top 4, likely #3 right now in the country, and if they win the acc should vault any sec team. Any one loss champion or 2 loss champion for that matter should jump a team that cannot win it's own conference. Until we get a playoff, which in my opionion should only include conference champions and maybe an at large or two, then should we consider this, and at that an at large birth better come from a team in the top 3 that didn't win it's division or conference.......... and imho, voting should be removed by conferences who vote up their teams and down other conference teams.....
|2 years 16 weeks ago||2012 defense....||
1st, Hybrids typically aren't big enough for lber when playing the power rush teams, but they are fine against the spread type teams, ie indiana, northwestern, minnesota.......against msu, iowa, psu, wisconsin, nebraska and Osu even when they go 3wr or spread set you need bigger lbers to stand up to that inside run those schools still use out of a spread formation.
2012 Defense, I hope like heck that BigWill and Quinton Washington, Richard Ash or Ondre Pipkins and play bigtime ball on the dline..........otherwise the defense will take a step back. Rock, Brink or Heininger may be able to bulk up enough to play the 3tech but One of the other 4 mentioned must be ready for the 1tech NT position..... and Mattison wants a 3 man rotation for inside minimum, he prefers a 4 man rotation where the backups can play 10 - 15 snaps and spell the starters if a long drive gets going....
De's, I think next yr this position, esp Rush End gets much faster and more athletic with Frank Clark and Beyer... and possibly Ojemudia gets some time there as a rush only, he probably needs a redshirt yr to get big enough to hold the poa against the run.
|2 years 16 weeks ago||don't see it as a jab....||

That said, Rich likes a challenge, have at it.....just hope he knows the sec like the bigten is a defense first conference, if you can't play it you will not in in it.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||nd needed a stop to use those timeouts||
Giving up back to back 15yd runs and putting sc in fieldgoal range made sure they couldn't use those timeouts....ie nd was down by 14pts, a fg makes it 3 scores with less then 2 minutes......by this point kelly was relying on a turnover cause nothing short of a turnover or missed fg would have given nd a chance....no matter how much time they left on the clock.
Outside appearances one could guess but by football players standards they should be smart enough to know this....

Plain and simple....you cheap shot denard call a cut block on their best dline or lber, you send a message and you send a hard message....They do it again you line a double outside lber blitz and you tell them to crush the qb and if you are within 2 steps you hit him and bury him hi and low! It aint cheap when the other team is calling it. It's calling by the rules they want to play with!
Believe me they want to go after a qb, you go get theirs!

One thing I would never allow any recruit to ever do is visit my stadium to cheer the other program or visit that program's sideline. On the holding calls, 1st half was getting rediculous calling Michigan and not calling Northwestern.......the Michigan faithfull at the game let them know too.....good job fans cause on a big gain by northwestern on an obvious hold they booed the heck out of the referees for a good while......... the good thing about that was it showed nw didn't have or wasn't going to get the home field calls all game......that said Michigan benefited as well in the 2nd half on a couple calls.......
|2 years 23 weeks ago||it isn't an experiment!||
Borges offense is west coast passing with power run game. Eventually the offense will go that route, but most qb's struggle with west coast passing and take 2 or 3yrs to learn. Denard will have to continue working on this as will the other qb's.
This will pay big next yr ............though you don't see it now, next yr is when the benefit comes.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||numbers are made to say what you want them to.||
Points per drive matters more then any other statistic you have. The previous two years the defense couldn't stop teams from scoring. This year the defense has created about 6 redzone turnovers, ie direct turnover int/fumble or stop on downs....
Turnovers aren't just random, and often are unforced unless a rb or qb just drops the ball.
Nd for instance.... Rees fumbles, loses the ball in the redzone, everyone says it was unforced but go watch the tape, Black was coming free and within 2yds of him when Rees's helmet turns slightly and he loses the football. Ie he was about to get drilled and saw it, rushing the throw he loses the footballl...... In my mind that is forced because the qb felt the pressure. Rees int's.. dropping a corner from the short flat zone and peeling back is a defensive call so when Floyd drops to get that int, that is forced, why the qb didn't recognize the coverage. Floyd's int cutting under Floyd is also forced, why great defensive play, break on the ball........

Goal oriented, centered, knows exactly what direction he wants his programs to go and knows how he wants to get there. Strong leader, self confident and now comes the most important part. He knows the Michigan landscape as a Football Player he knows the traditions and what everything means to Alumni, to Boosters to Fans and esp to Players! He has served on the Board of Reagents, he has been a corperate CEO.
His backround came in perfect to meld the fans back together. His leadership thru the ncaa was perfect taking over for something that never should have happened. The hiring process imo he made one mistake and that was not making the decision after the osu game and waiting till the bowl game...Imo he had what he needed.
Publicity, idk, he is a little overboard and as he says the job should be about Michigan, and in my mind that means more of the head coaches and players and less of him. But I'll take this any day over Bill Martin not stepping up and being the leader we needed in crisis.
Renovations, right now this is all Bill Martin and he deserves total credit for that, Brandon walked in at the end, and one thing I respected that Brandon did was have Bill Martin do the ribbon cutting and give him the credit for the stadium renovation.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||There are always a few that would||
turn on you that you would not expect. But the vast majority of turn coats had zero character to begin with.
Former players mad at Rich were the half that weren't mad at Lloyd and were claiming they were shut out. The rest were the half that were mad at Lloyd and they were coming out of the woodwork to say it was the first time in yrs they were welcomed back. Pick wich side you want to believe or care to worry about their opinion on the matter cause it really is was picking and choosing to be upset or not and publically support or tear down.
Osu, look at the number of problem stars they had...then consider how they handled things and how former players come out. There was a definite line of jealousy there that is very obvious and a disdain for them by those who do love osu.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||nobody considered things in the bowl record||
Michigan beat wazzu, ohio st faced fsu who imo was the 1 team that could have beat that 97 team, only difference was michigan had a more clutch qb and better oline, otherwise the defenses stacked for both teams..... pennst lost their qb, rb and star wr for the bowl game against florida and still gave florida a good run... iowa lost their starting qb the rest of the season after the michigan game and wasn't the same team again after that game...and for that same matter neither was msu...
Michigan's defense put 5 qb's out of a game or multiple games that season for either a few plays or more.. they were devastating......
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Mcnabb carved up the defense passing, same with jurius jackson||
Remember mcnabb and jackson both killed the defense throwing overtop, if you remember todd toast howard getting torched a couple times ..... or finding out Andre Weathers wasn't Woodson against syracuse cause they tried to play the same man up style with Weathers as the #1 corner........... And don't forget the real issue in pass defense was this. Woodson left for the nfl, William Peterson who likely would have taken over as the #1 corner transferred and was ruled ineligible........ and then add in either Patmon or another db didn't play that game either....so it took herman out of being aggressive playing man coverage and attacking mcnabb and spying him with hendricks like he wanted to instead dropping the safeties deep to cover for the corners.....
Michigan against nebraska... frost was nowhere near the throwing qb mcnabb was, and was a straight forward runner, not elusive or dominating physically. But I will say the rb's for the huskers were the real deal.
Biggest advantage michigan had was a big rotation of dlineman that yr......One thing that would have hurt michigan though was not having either eric mayes or dadrian taylor since both were out injured for the year.... but that only mildly affected depth on that defense.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||my reasons michigan wins||
Talent was one thing but consider this in style of play. Nebraska offense was completely 1 dimensional run game with some passing thrown in. Michigan had superior pass defense that was easily better then anything Nebraska could put at them in the passing game. Nebraska had 2 pass plays, 1 Michigan ran all the time themselves to the te trailing bootleg off play action the other was qb option step back pass, either wr or te streaking down the field. To wich the backside corner safety had to watch the release of the wr or te....
This against that michigan defense puts nebraska's only option to run the ball every down....and one thing Nebraska would have found was the fact that this defense was devastating once they had you one dimensional.
Imo Pennst was the most dangerous offense in cfb that yr and this defense rocked them to the core. Nebraska against this defense focused for the mnc, it's over.......
|2 years 41 weeks ago||lets first take coaches to remove from the list||
1 stoops...turned down his dream job in nd, twice! And turned down osu already, didn't even talk to osu!
2 gruden.....dude makes over a million a yr to do tv broadcasts of games.....he knows his family now...he isn't giving that up...and not to mention he is becoming a football media rockstar.....not happening no matter what program or nfl team comes calling.....(this reminds me of all the talk about jimmy johnson's return to coaching..yeah you see how that went)
3 Ferentz... makes 4.5 million a yr overall in iowa city.... money isn't the issue and he is reveared there even if he goes 8-4...try that in a2 or cbus.........................................
4 Meyer....... Too soon but the real issue for osu is sanctions....why go into a job riddled with handcuffs and one mistake makes it ten times worse! Honestly I don't see Meyer coaching in the bigten at all.... unless joepa retires this yr and pennst comes calling and Meyer has a clean slate....could happen...osu and sanctions not happening.
5 Glenn Mason.... I know I know huge disappointment here but the second the job is open turn on the bigten network to see him gravelling for the job........
|2 years 42 weeks ago||for the record, I wanted hoke 3yrs ago||
I wanted hoke again...............
For those upset about the hiring process, the only thing I didn't like was waiting till after the bowl game....I thought that was kinda bogus, but other then that the process itself that Dave Brandon had was very good. I didn't see anything changing after the bowl game, no defense was going to magically show up against miss st after the season this staff had and after the osu game I didn't care who was the coach, they needed to go.
Hoke is a great hire and has done everything the right way from the outset. He also was a great hire due to his familiarity with bigten, midwest/ohio/pa/mi/ill recruiting and even better he was on the staff that had won bigten titles and a national title...he brings familiarity to michigan, he brings great success back with him from before and turned horrible programs into winners. It just speaks volumes........

So no 2 deep is decided and nobody has said Cullen cannot break the 2 deep if he puts in the offseason work or be the nickel back or win a starting job......
Point is to play anywhere he has to put the work in, and he will have to beat out 4-6 other players to crack the 2 deep or win a starting job. Leaving is quiting when things are tough.............
|2 years 46 weeks ago||2cents||
Oline definitely needs to get stronger, but they did look better then I thought considering they and the qb are the most affected adapting to the new scheme.
QB, Denard and Devin didn't look as comfortable but the best part of that was the defense was bringing lots of pressures and looks to confuse them....ie something they actually will see in the fall. No more of the bland defensive looks so they can go down field at will as in the past. That isn't a knock on Rich, it's the truth, last yr the defense was so bland it was difficult to tell what was what.............other then they were out manned at the point of attack.
Defense, dline is far better, far more ahead and that was missing vanbergen. Lbers aren't fighting off lineman every single snap thus the lber play was far better imo....still a way to go but consider where it was last yr......and that's without demens...... Safety play is all around better as well....
Best players on defense, Carvin, Rvb, MM and Demens........... does someone else step up into that list?
Best on offense, obviously Denard, Stonum, Lewan and Molk.... who steps in here, hemmingway, wich rb steps up and grabs the reins or is it by commitee?
|2 years 46 weeks ago||what happened to every reserve ticket being taken?||
Folks, don't take 10 tickets and then not even go, don't take 10 tickets when you know at best you are going to use 4..........that is jack
Hopefully next yr the university charges $10 for reserve tickets for motts and it cuts back on ppl just taking as many as they are limited to take.........
btw I am hoping the school moves spring back 2 weeks for much better weather.....but I doubt they will, doing that would take them past spring break.
|2 years 47 weeks ago||so part of the dislike is bias or not being a writer...really||
BTW, ready any monday morning column and tell me it is not without bias....or heck read the dfreep and tell me there isn't bias and had not been bias the previous 3yrs and they they are the paid professionals. Heck complaining about bias here is actually pretty funny because as much as I read those guys had some bias against Rich answer me how much bias Brian and a great many here had against Brady Hoke being hired and carried that bias even to a degree now. I am sure the crickets will be loud on that cause everyone has their biased opinions.
BTW, I have talked with these guys indepth about football and what you get on the blog is a scaled back version. You want the deep down x's and o's, coach over there can break it down with the best out there, problem is he gets another 100 responses to explain what he just said so typically he dumbs down the talk to what most everyone is familiar with.
These guys liked Rich if you knew them, but what they say is plain as day obvious. When reports came out and I heard it from more then them that Rich would stop defensive coaches from correcting on field mistakes in practice and tell them to let them get the reps in, it clearly made sense what these guys were reporting, ie practice was about drills, reps and getting them done in the allowed time for that drill/station.....idea was get them doing the same thing over and over not about correcting bad fundamentals....they hoped repetition fixed it....... It also proved the point the practice was for the offense because Rich's offense depends on rythem so no defensive adjustment was going to ruin that adjustment. It also told you the reports of defensive improvement the previous yrs were accurate, just against Rich's offense since that is what they practiced against.
If you want great spelling, punctuation and sentence structure coupled with great story telling then go to barnes and nobel or the writer's blogs.........
|2 years 47 weeks ago||fyi, these guys do a great job||
They don't blow smoke selling a product or get into the games to keep readers, they just report what they see and know. I have known them for yrs and they do a very good job.
the football breakdown is great for even a novice to read, yeah some may want a much heavier analysis but that would only bore to tears the casual fan as only the most ardent football fans want the total statistical breakdown with player actions responsibilities and everything else.
Grammer, if you want it written by an english major buy a magazine, if you want it free by those who attend and love michigan football enough to share it, go to their website.

Riley, Voskul and pelinka.... should have been a bigger part of the team then they were, and I still think that is the reason the fab5 wasn't more successfull... Those guys were on a national championship team and I think they cost themselves by not making the other guys a big part of the team...particularly after they all became starters......
I bet they all know it now and wish they did it a bit different with those guys but it's past now
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Here is the plan||
They want paid they don't get a scholarship! You pay your way thru school, get student loans like everyone else and then lets pay them according to play.....
Lets see how many athletes vote on that... you can get paid based on your pay but you will not be on scholarship and must take out a student loan if you cannot pay your way.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Osu punishment||
Remember the 1st meeting was on Osu's terms meaning they were self reporting what they just found out, turning it over to the ncaa and recommending punishment...... At that time the ncaa was still trying to preserve the sugarbowl so they gave a harsher 5 game suspension and let the tat5 play in the bcs game.....
Now, after the fact it comes out, we all know Tressel lied, covered it up, signed the documents stating no violations, lied again to osu and then ncaa about time frame and where the tip came from.....
2010 wins imo have to be vacated, and if now proven these players commited these actions at all during the 2009 season even those wins should be vacated.....and bcs bowl money as well......
Tressel.. 2 games...not near enough... remember bruce pearl lost 8 sec bball games almost half the confrence schedule for lying to the ncaa... Bryant lost his season for lying and not even haven broken a rule...... Tressel imo this looks like an antonio bryant suspension is coming.....
Probation.... given, likely 3 to 5yrs for this one...
Scholarships ..... unknown... usc lost 30 over 3yrs ie 10 a yr for 3yrs.... for an assistant coach that covered up reggie bush taking extra benefits.... what happens here?
|2 years 52 weeks ago||I tend to think a few things||
1 Attourney, imo privelege, that's for the bar to decide.., I don't think he lightly divulged the info...I also don't think he for a second believed the emails would ever become public.... as in, once you read this you delete my email and then handle your situation.
2 It was obvious the attourney was affiliated with osu. He had Tressel's direct email, not the athletic departments front email for the avg person to send their hate mail or the psyco osu fan with a review of last weeks game.. This dude had Tressel's account.
3 Motive, I don't think you can call an attourney shady for giving Tressel the heads up here. Did he make a major mistake in doing so, sure but shady.....not at all... Imo this happens all the time, every day where some confidential info is shared looking out for someone else, hey this is a heads up, this is heading your way......ethical...no, loyal, yes, they do not always mix and loyalty can come with a price.....

Dui in any state requires you to go to court regardless and you have to bring representation, ie a lawyer......
2nd Donte Stallworth, yeah what happened was horrible, what happened took a mans life, but don't let facts get in the way of what happened. The person killed was also drunk and walked into the road where stallworth was driving and all accounts stated even if sober stallworth would not have been able to avoid the accident.....
Braylon, his lawyer is doing his job, that is what lawyers do... ie make sure police followed proceedure, make sure equipment is calibrated correctly for an accurate breathalizer...But lets see you write a check to a lawyer for a few hundred beans a hr and you tell them not to do anything cause you are going to man up.......

He is not an interior dlineman at all in his time here. Possibility he could excell as a sde, but as a interior dt, only on pass rush downs.....
|3 years 6 weeks ago||DB also should have reached||
DB also should have reached out to Brock himself and asked what he could do. It would be prudent for Dave Brandon to get in touch with Barwis and Wellman both and see if they could work something out to allow Brock to continue his rehab here....or continue here until Brock is able to continue elsewhere if he chooses.
Above poster nailed it, Brock was asked about things and in the transition Brock is obviously upset. He didn't slam michigan but he feels Rich and company got a raw deal and the fact that this transition has not gone on even a month yet it is way to early to start calling out michigan at all in this
|3 years 6 weeks ago||Get a top notch crew in and everything is good||
Barwis....come on guys he deserves mad props for everything he did here. In particular Brock Mealer and what they did there. For those Anti Barwis, come on the guy followed Rich's instructions.... so when he told him he wanted lineman running ...., lifting .... and weighing about.... that is what barwis did....
Rich adjusted after the 09 season saying we have to get bigger....that is well documented..but they didn't get big enough....the same front guys got ran over...Mike Martin included....they weren't near big enough for a 3 man front....is that Barwis fault or Rich's fault? Imo Rich....he knew the front he was playing Mike Barwis trained them as instructed.
Get a top notch crew and some depth for coaches to work with on the field and everything is good.
BTW, S&C...come on 2006 team was a personal foul from being undefeated under gittleson's ancient method, 2005 team had 5 losses.... same method.. 9, 7 and 5 losses under barwis... off season commitment was 05 team issue, 08, 09 and 10 those teams just didn't have talent period.

He was a longtime dc at kstate then at florida when he was hired by Oklahoma.....yeah that's right they went after a successfull coordinator to run a program that is very prestigious....
Ohhh yeah, before stoops Oklahoma made more then a couple big name hires....uhmm Howard Schnellenberger ring a bell...
Stoops at Oklahoma.....funny how oklahoma gave stoops a shot to be head coach he wins a national title and suddenly every program thinks they can lure him there when they wouldn't even talk to him before.....florida, nd, ohio st, and every other top job that has opened up.....
Harbaugh... funny michigan wouldn't field a call from him 3yrs ago...now he leads stanford to a bcs bowl and blows out vatech and michigan fans are drooling all overthemselves and swearing harbaugh should be running home....when michigan wouldn't call at all 3yrs ago.....
Point is you have to be ahead of the curve....sometimes you have to take a chance and just hire the best coach, not the best name coach......
|3 years 10 weeks ago||pay athletes and don't give them a scholarship....||

Why was smu the only program to get the death penalty? It should have been done long before to other schools, the ncaa knows it, everyone knows it..... btw, I still look at the smu death penalty as a warning to usc and the sec!
Check out Usc's crap...long before reggie bush btw
I had a link that can no longer be found on espn that brought out how he 12 sec schools led the ncaa with 42 major violations and many of the schools multiple over many yrs...and this went back to 10 right before alabama got nailed again! So yea....it's funny how espn signs a major tv deal with the sec and suddenly this disappears......
|3 years 13 weeks ago||1 wr did make that difference vs florida for osu...||
The 1st offensive series florida safeties were 12yds deep at the snap of the ball, just like they were a yr later against manningham and arrington....
The 2nd offensive series florida realized ted ginn wasn't in the game, they were both in the box and the florida defense was blitzing from everywhere.
Rewatch the tape..., a few series later ted ginn re enters the game, florida see's it and they back the safeties up again..., realize he is ineffective and cannot get off the line due to his ankle and they are right back in the box after 2 plays.
2006 season, sure florida got the mnc, but didn't deserve to be in the game...., kudos for them for getting the nod and taking advantage, but michigan was better, and up until mario's injury michigan was the best team in cf that season.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||fyi, a yr older, more depth and more talent||
will get the defense on the right track.....getting something a defensive coordinator can really work with in the defensive backfield besides swiss cheese will work wonders....
getting a couple dlineman big enough to play bigten football will work wonders..., getting those dlineman in front of lbers to allow them to get to plays before they get ran over, might actually help... just a thought....
btw, teams should get up to play Michigan....and that is no excuse for Michigan either...uhmmm well we were their superbowl......guess what, this is michigan and you get to play 11 superbowls before you get to the biggest game of the yr for any program of any sport....
|3 years 14 weeks ago||sec screwed the iron bowl....||
face it this is the first yr in 16 yrs anyone even cared about the iron bowl....
acc screwed the fsu/miami game as well...putting both teams in opposite divisions but having them play early and essentially taking 1 team out of national discussion before the season is even started.....they should have kept the game in mid/late october like it always was....
michigan ohiost, I think the bigten messed up by keeping this game as the last game of the season...imho, it should have stayed as the 3rd saturday of november, thus giving at least a 1 week break and it stays at a traditional time slot everyone is familiar with....and this game would still have the ability to knock the other team out of the bigten title game or decide the bigten....(last game is great except for the fact that it's the last game of the regular season now with a championship game left....thus I would prefer the 3rd sat, not thanksgiving weekend....
|3 years 14 weeks ago||right personel helps to start....||
admit it, vanbergen/roh/banks/patterson are not interior dlineman....
Mike Martin cannot control 2 gaps every single snap, it has been proven this season,
DB's, warren gone, woolfolk injured out for season spelled doom for the corners,
Lbers, Ezeh is afraid of guards coming free hence he retreats from contact.....
Fact of the matter is this defensive personel even next yr is behind to run this defense.
Washington or Ash would have to be monster 330lb nt's and Martin Vanbergen again would have to get bigger to run this defense. Corners would have to grow up and woolfolk come back healthy....then we can talk about a defense getting much better.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||he should be suspended for calling a specific||
play that is illegal!
Nobody here is saying wisconsin didn't kick the crap out of our swiss cheese defense. But to go out and call that play to chop block a dlineman on purpose....ummmm he should flat out be suspended....
Heck the bigten should suspend him for 2 games, the second for being a moron and dumb enough to admit it! But that is why I love stupid people!
|3 years 15 weeks ago||calm down on the chop block....||
Lewan had a nasty chop block last week and had one a couple weeks before that, and both were completely uncalled for.....don't act like Beilema called that specificaly....lineman pull that crap when the guy infront of them got the best of them a few plays....
Beilema, most coaches are complete aholes, what cause ferentz, tressel are good infront of a camera you think they aren't? Rich, you better believe he is....Bo, we call him tough as nails as our coach and you think 9 other schools thought he was a saint...Coaches are aholes to other teams.
So when Dantonio, Hope, Beilema or indiana's coach (yeah nobody knows who he is or will take the time cause he won't be there long enough) act like douche bags, its because they are. They just happen to be the ones that don't know how to act infront of a camera....
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Ummmmmm partly correct.||
The defensive front was way undersized last yr in a 4 man front.....who the heck thought it would be better this yr in a 3 man front minus brandon graham? DUH....
This defense has been flat ran over every single week, can't stop the run can't get to the passer.....both of those is on the defensive front.
Vanbergen, out of position he needs to be in a 4-3 as a sde, not interior dline
Martin, out of position as a 3 front nt, again he needs to be de in 3front or dt in 4front...
Roh, out of position still needs to be 4front rde
Patterson/Banks 4 front sde....
I admire the effort these guys give but the whole defense rests right here with no defensive tackle able to come in and play next to Mike Martin that can take the heat off the dline, ie let martin be a dt and not a nt, vanbergen be a sde, roh/black be rde's....
We witnessed today a dline just get ran over no matter how much they subbed they just got their tails handed to them....and they are bigger this yr then last yr and last yr was a 4man front and did a better job!
|3 years 16 weeks ago||Difference is dline personel to run a 3man front....||
Mike Martin is not big enough to be a nose tackle in a 3 man front in the bigten, big12, sec..... he doesn't control 2 gaps against the run and that must happen.
3-3-5 would need a big space eating nt that controls the 2 inside gaps and demands a double team so the inside lber can flow to the ball without getting a lineman or 2 lineman coming free every single play.
Mike Martin should be playing de in a 3 man front....
Next yr dline should have Qwashington or Richard Ash at the nosetackle position....and could go 4 man front and still have a great rush package....
4-3 front sde vanbergen, dt mikemartin, nt qwash/Ash, rde roh/black
4-2 rush rde Roh, dt mike martin, nt qwash/Ash, Rde Black
You can also slide vanbergen to dt or nt on pass rush packages......

Avery and Talbott have played the best overall, avery looks ready to impact next yr bigtime. Talbott has had some real good plays here and there as well being in good position when he got beat a couple times as well.
Best help to the db's next yr will be a vastly improved dline, namely de's.
|3 years 19 weeks ago||some of it is undisciplined, most was not.||
Lewan the penalty against indiana was very questionable but the one against iowa the whistle blew and he came 4yds and blew up a guy turned away from him....
Molk had the defenseless player call, wich some of this when the play is beyond you, you just need to let it go.
Christian vs nd, was going to be called even if the hit was weak, it was over a yd oob by the time he hit the player. You cannot do that and I don't care if you are a tr fr, you know from little league football oob is oob and you will get a pf for hitting a player oob.
Many others, undisciplined more in play and consistency on defense I would say...
|3 years 19 weeks ago||If osu could win the line of scrimmage in 9 of 10 games||
when they got destroyed in the 1 game they did play, I would love to see it. By the way, this is a repeat of last yrs game with the only difference being Tolzien did not turn the ball over.
Wisconsin whipped osu at the line on both sides of the ball 2 yrs straight now. 9 of 10 games osu loses when you get beat that bad on the line. Last yr was that 1 win when wisconsin inexplicably kept turning the ball over.
|3 years 19 weeks ago||That was a great interception||

|3 years 19 weeks ago||penalties really hurt...||
Denard was not the same throwing the ball after his int again...it seems he got happy feet and real erratic throwing after that. Not nearly as decisive....
Tate, was erratic at times to and don't forget he threw an early pick breaking the pocket. Tate has a real bad habit of breaking the pocket right to the pressure and not sliding away from the pressure.... he is not helping his lineman out at all....
I think I want to see more designed roll out passing for both tate and denard.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||btw, the calls against lewan did not give up 38pts,||

Also several plays again the opposing dlineman were lining up offsides and they never called it. I get tired of this as they have called this a few times against michigan and I am staring at dlineman from umass, bgsu, indiana, msu and iowa clearly with their helmets across the los and they don't throw the flag.......
Holding on sweeps... is it just me or do they call this on michigan and never call it on other teams. Granted our de's aren't good but when olineman have their hands outside the shoulderpads that is holding.....
1 other, Facemask penalties. 4 times I have seen Denard tackled and a defender graze or grab his facemask and it not be called......

You can always tell with May, he is plain as day obvious...he didn't care for Rich, didn't care for Lloyd at all as coaches, but Denard he loves and because of that he never dogs denard or the offense but does call out the defense wich face it, all of us do.
Lou, he is so stuck on notre dame that when michigan wins it somehow was because of notredame doing it...... He hates michigan and you can tell.
But as other posters also stated, yeah Mark May also likes getting under Lou's skin

St Louis Rams at Cincinnati Bengals....2000, I think...maybe 99...... Was supposed to be a bengals win against some terrible team in st louis that had a qb starting cause the starter just got hurt in preseason. Yeah, some qb named Kurt Warner was starting who the yr before was playing for the iowa barnstormers in arena league.......
That to this day is the best offense I have ever seen in the nfl games I have went to. They shredded the bengals defense (hey back then lots of teams did) but they could have scored 70pts with ease if they wanted to.....it was flat out ugly for me as a bengals fan but man stlouis was fun to watch......

With so many programs cutting players and not graduating them the ncaa instituted that apr point thing.
So now the new way of getting around kicking a player off the team without losing apr is putting them on a medical scholarship. But I believe that is a 1yr deal to, if he is healthy the next yr the program either has to release them if they want to transfer or put them back on athletic scholarship....
Sec is again at the top of this list....12 per yr per team on avg.....thing is sec once they do that, they lose that player the entire yr and I don't think they are eligible to practice in spring ball either.....

You have to play games nationally televised when you can. Yes michigan is on the bigten network and nationally anyone with it can see michigan. But you also need more then espn/ as well...
ABC does regional coverage and rarely national unless it is a night game. Nbc for nd is just national...so a game with nd is national.....how many recruits got to see a great game against nd that could flip back and forth and see that game if they weren't seeing something else.....
Plus I still say the vast majority of fans that want to drop nd from the schedule havent' been to the game at the bighouse. These programs bring so much to the table, it is an awesome game!
|3 years 23 weeks ago||how about playing a style of defense recruits WANT to play!||
Recruits watch this defense and do not want any part of it...top recruits that is.
It's passive, non attacking. What dline wants to play a non attacking roll, forget front 3 or 4 man dline....they want to penetrate and make plays.
Lbers, who the heck wants to be a lber in a defense that does not attack at all, lets olneman come free and blast you....
Db's, 12yds off the los is so exciting!
Seriously, Robinson stated this would be an attacking defense and untill they do attack and start making plays they will not land many top rated recruits.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Assessments are ok but honestly||
Umass 7 blockers, michigan 6 man front....in zone reading, not attacking and we need this guy to tell us why the lbers looked like crap! Really....
How about the dline got pushed back most every series due to doubles, then the umass oline wa scraping off to the lbers and getting right to them. Only times this didn't happen was when mike martin made a superman play or Gerg decided to blitz.
Contain, who had contain cause it wasn't anyone on defense I saw..... Lbers, Roh/Mouton....didn't have contain, you guys blasted ezeh, how about he was getting both guard and full back half the time or at least the guard and I saw several plays where he shedded the guard and forced the runner but the other lbers were caught and couldn't close the backside cut either. So rip ezeh while leaving the dline alone or other lbers.
In reality the blame starts with the Staff....sitting back watching them get ran over and not calling run blitz's to stop it, not going to more 4man fronts with actual size....sorry moving vanbergen into the middle isn't a 4man front, it is a repeat of last yr, undersized getting tail handed to him!
|3 years 24 weeks ago||really don't you think every kid runs a 4.3 40 from the south||
that makes his 4.7 40 in the north accurate..... as tomvh states 40 time gets 4fakes out of 5....
Seriously Carlos Brown ran a 4.65 at a camp in georgia his sr yr and was the fastest player there by far according to his hs coach who used to post on scout forum...so the hs recruit 40 times I see being anywhere below 4.5, I never believe, ever.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||the criteria was never stated for the rankings...||
But if accomplishment is the thing woodson did more in changing the view of an entire sport from his position then anyone else left they possibly have.
I know some will be way up there just because of who they are. Owens, Thorpe, magic johnson are almost guarranteed to be top ten/five as would be the president... red grange, archie griffin, dan gable there are some bigtime names and athletes in bigten history.....Lest we forget coaches Bo, Woody, Yost, Stagg, Red Berenson....many, many great coaches in programs in bigten history!
But what woodson accomplished surpasses many of them, and there is no way he and even desmond howard should be remotely as low as they are. I will forever see this list as a farce because of this.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Corners are way to soft, dt next to martin is a must, just not||
Corners are way to soft... they need to be up, esp rogers since he is physical enough...Floyd Idk if he is good enough...or physical enough right now...
DT is needed in a huge way and it cannot be vanbergen, he is not an interior dlineman, he just isn't...Barnum/Washington someone needs to be made a dt from the olineman that has some TAIL END on them......
De VanBergen, NT Martin DT (cambell/barnum/washington, someone) DE Banks/Roh
Banks run downs, Roh pass rush.... But this defense is way, way to soft against the run against power formation today and my guess is they face a similar run game vs bigten teams all season long....
400yds a game or more will not get it done in bigten play, it won't and if not fixed you can count on 6 wins at best!
|3 years 25 weeks ago||dantonio learned that at osu....give up the purdue game...||
or illinois game to beat michigan.... tressel has lost 3 games before the michigan game in his tenure....
|3 years 25 weeks ago||that week sucks period for the schedule....||
top out of conference games that week
Boise vs oregon st, west virginia vs lsu.......those are the only 2 non conf games worth mentioning...all the rest flat suck
sec has conference games started up so they have a couple good matchups.....
|3 years 25 weeks ago||09 start and 10 start are nearly identicle in style....||
big win over western with nfl qb to test the michigan defense and then nd the measuring stick game......
10 big win over uconn expected to win weak big east or challenge for it anyway, and big game against nd, measuring stick against the nfl offensive talent of nd.....
coming out 1st yr starters with heisman hype, newcomer of the yr......michigan is back....
But that is where the comparisons really stop...but also where it is up to this team a yr older to stick to the plan.
09 Forcier was a tr fr, was injured and was clearly not as prepared after the nd game the rest of the season. His sideline antics with coach rod telling him things and him going right back out and doing the opposite, had me thinking denard was going to get his shot to start the next season.
10 Denard beat out that same forcier for reasons stated above, he is coachable, he corrects his mistakes and isn't phased by being corrected, as seen when coming to the sidelines and Rich is telling him he did the wrong thing he shakes his head ok, saw it against uconn a couple times, wasn't there at nd to see but the one time coming to the sidelines on tv...same reaction.... Thus the reason I have more confidence that no matter what teams do to adjust to him, he will continue taking the coaching to beat it.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||don't be suprised ....||
Imo the bigten network tries to get 1 of msu, psu, wisconsin on the bigten network ...to push ratings for the network....
Indiana imo I bet is on espn.....msu is either espn or btn and iowa on abc......
|3 years 27 weeks ago||I believe brandon when he says there isn't 1 thing to this....||
Brandon states overall state of the program, direction, everything.
What I take out of that is Rich has to right the ship this yr with wins/losses and keep all the negative bs out. Ie no more self created negative bs.
Ncaa ruling will also be the other half of this equation imo. Nothing more damaging and everything is good. Anything else and it's over, jmo.
|3 years 27 weeks ago||It is a caomment you take as a pound of wheat or a grain of salt||
Facilities were run down, and still Schembechler Hall needs redone as well as Oosterban field house needs to be brought way up to date....yes, I will say the athletic department in about 5yrs needs to have both of them done....
Winning brings recruits, period. Putting players in the nfl brings recruits period. Miami and Usc are 100% proof of this.
The facilities arms race began in the 90's across college football and most of the sec schools were the 1st to do so. Now the rest of the country is catching up or been catching up the last decade. Michigan's facilities are on par with any top program, though texas has really went over the top with their facilities.
|3 years 27 weeks ago||Last yr was the best for crowd noise and excitement||
Since 2003, by far. 2003 was an exciting team and the fans were bigtime in 03. The quiet crowd crap really amped up big after the 05 season.... but even in 06 the crowd just wasn't as excited and I always got the feeling alot of it had to do with style of play.... even with a far better team Lloyd just was not going to open it up and let the boys play.
2009, was loud, it was fun! One thing I noticed as the band had the stadium pa stop playing music and have the band do it, it just wasn't as intense for environment. The reason, the band just has bad timing for those things, they try to play accurate instead of loud for the whole stadium to hear....
As for Autzen....completely pumped in stadium noise there. I don't care what anyone says....when you are at the top of that stadium and the noise bears down on you from above, and speakers are above....guess what...it is all pumped..... accoustics my arse on that place, it's piped in and a whole lot of coaches have said they piped it in.... Also there was a video of autzen where the crowd was yelling going crazy before the snap sounds normal like any other stadium and without anything happening the noise jumped to beyond deafening and stayed that way, the noise jump was obviously a volume control to the sound system....
|3 years 27 weeks ago||I got 21 of 25....||

|3 years 28 weeks ago||Ironic||
Bowden in an interview when he momentarily had the all time d1 wins record stated with a lot of arrognce.. "I have never been fired" he was bragging about it because most all coaches get fired at some point in their career. But he was saying it taking a shot at certain other coaches and at the time most were expecting Joe Paterno to get fired or removed, forced to step down at pennst so I was also seeing this as a shot at Paterno.
Funny how that works.... But as well it goes to show, no matter who you are or what you have done there are no free rides.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||booboo...||
the way things went down with booboo just made you think he is bipolar or something... I could be wrong.
Glenn Winston, he sought out someone specific, he had a clear definite motive both times at msu. Had a reputation he came from a really rough area and the michigan staff were weary about taking him though they loved his talent.....
Cissoko, nobody had a thing to say about warning signs with cissoko, and with him playing for wilcher if they were there they would have been all over the message boards.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||agree with Eck...||
Schools are cooking the books, taking cash early from athletic departments. No way would college football even be in business if the majority of programs were losing money like they say. A few yrs back when money was flowing like water for everyone they were saying less then 30 programs were profitable.....
One other thing about athletics and colleges. These schools see an increase in applications/enrollment when they go to bowl games, ncaa tournament and it goes up even bigger when they win a champinship, bcs bowl or the ncaa tournament.
It's even bigger for small schools.... Valparaiso had a 40% increase yrs back when they made the tourney and consequently 2nd round... and many other small schools had the same type of increase. Wich more students equals more money for the universities so they want them....
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Elin was in vegas with some dude 6 months ago....||
buddy of mine was out in vegas and was telling me she was in vegas with some dudes, said the people around her made it impossible for anyone to get a clear pic. He is no tiger fan at all, he thought tiger was getting screwed bigtime the way she was acting at the bar. While she was supposedly mourning the whole thing with tiger she was out in vegas....
now I do not know that to be 100% fact, but I grew up with the guy and he isn't one to lie about something just to lie. He was pretty hard on elin from that point forward and had no remorse stating every thing from her was just an act for the cameras....
|3 years 28 weeks ago||wasn't a few starters held out or limited in this scrimmage...||
Martin, Mouton and a couple others... don't know about Roh and some others but I thought a major point was the staff held them out since they knew what they can do but are getting others ready....
1 other thing I have thought for a while.
With Martin they run the 3 man front but if he isn't in the game they have to go to 2 dt's with bigwill and likely sagesse, cause the the other 2 just cannot hold the poa with double teams and sometimes even a chip from the other og or fb as well.... Much harder for big will at his size till he gets his pad level down consistently.
